The stallion circled the skies, an imposing figure high in the sky. His shadow drifted over the rolling snow covered plains and he noticed, with mild irritation, as various soquili dove for cover. He was from such a high angle a bit of a monster, and Nocturne could only assume that they were shrieking and going on about some kalona in the vicinity.

Really. . . He looked nothing like a kalona. . . but so high within the sky he doubted anyone could tell the difference. All they saw were leather wings and a threatening figure but it seemed to be enough. Circling once over a small herd he watched as the young ones hid behind protective mares and stallions. . . No, he as not welcome here, why he'd even bothered to come he didn't know.

It wasn't as if plain dwelling soquili were often open minded. . . nor did they stick around long enough for him to converse with them and reassure them of his good intentions. Still, stretching his wings away from the slopes would be good for him according to his grandmother, and with his mother's excitable encouragement, he left. If Ncoturne didn't know any better he might have thought his family trying to be rid of him.

For his own benefit or something along those lines.

To be social. . . meh. Still, he had taken his grandmother's advise and had flown despite his better judgment. He was turning in to a hermit according to his Uncle Azuell, though such words were said in jest, there was a spark of truth. . . Since Kaliska had left and Nita too, there wasn't much reason or excuse to keep him distracted from his duties. At least, he noticed, that the weather as substantially warmer this far south; the snow wasn't nearly as thick and looked to be melting in most places.

A pleasant change to say the least.

The ebony stallion heaved a heavy sigh as he pumped his wings one more time. He really had no direction in mind, no place to head and no desire to explore. A small partially frozen pond did draw his attention, and though it was on the open plains, he was pleased to see there were few othesr in the area.

Circling over the pond a few times the stallion hoped his presence might keep others away. Though he hated to be looked upon as dangerous, he also decided that his appearance might keep others away. Which was fine enough for him, at any rate. . . . At least for now. Landing near the ponds edge, the stallion gave his mane a shake before bowing his head to drink.

The young angeni mare stood before the partially frozen pond with her wings folded to her sides. Her gray eyes peered into the depths of the small pond, trying to find any life in the pond. There should be fish in the pond, or maybe tiny tadpoles, right? She bowed her head down, putting her nose to the pond water and shivered. It was cold... could the fishes survive in this temperature? Her ears flicked back, and her face contorting into her obvious distress. To walk into the pond could easily wreak havoc on the ecosystem. She could only look into the shallow depths in hopes that there is life in the cold ecosystem.

Hearing the flapping of wings, the sound drew her attention away from the pond and toward the figure. The sight of someone new drew a smile on her face. A fleeting thought wished the ecosystem luck in its recovery from the winter's cold as she made her way to the stallion in mere curiosity. She felt no fear for him, nor did she feel endangered. It might be her innocence and naivety that blocked her notions of danger, but she felt that she had no reason to fear.

He must not have been paying much attention for had he noticed the winged mare on the opposite side of the pond, he might have opted to land elsewhere. As it was, by the time movement caught his eye it was too late to escape.

The hermit wasn't just going to run away or bark at the poor mare for her approach. Though his shoulders tensed ever so slightly, waiting to be told off or run out for being some sort of 'kalona-spawn', Nocturne wasn't going to do a damn thing until such a moment came. Besides, he had every right to get a drink! Just because he looked like a predator didn't mean he was one.

His spiked tail swished uneasily behind him though his leather wings remained still. Lifting his head he let his crimson gaze study the approaching soquili; it as a mare, but whether this be a refreshing change from others, he knew not yet. She was bold enough to approach, but she also had two sets of wings. In fact, she was of angeni descent, which might work out in his favor if he were perfectly honest. . . . While some might oooh and ahhhh over the rare creatures, such a fascination was lost upon the stallion. His brother possessed every angeni feature in the book and his mother as very close to looking like a pure breed, outside of her lack of head-wings and donning a spiked tail. Close enough that many assumed and could see she had much angeni-blood within her. . . .

Still, Nocturne could only hope she was a peaceful creature and wasn't about to start a fight. She didn't look hostile but that meant very little in the grand scheme of things. Dipping his head upon her approach, Nocturne gave her a polite little bow in greeting. Unfortunately, he found the silence beginning to turn awkward and instantly felt a desire to remedy this. She hadn't yet spoken so she must have been waiting for him. . . or something. Unless she was just going to gawk.

"Good afternoon, Miss. . ." He finally greeted, voice quiet and words short but not unkind.

Aleshanee continue to smile at the other stallion. A quick once-over of the stallion had her curiosity piqued. He had interesting features that he had never seen on another, granted, she had not seen many soquili, he was still quite interesting in her mind. The one horn protruding from his forehead, to the lion tail, to the spikes running down his tail and then his leathery wings. Her mind tried to wrap around the breeds of soquili her elders had told her about, but nothing came to mind with any of their descriptions. Now that she thought about it more, he was bits and pieces of the other breeds of soquili her elders told her about. Regardless, she didn't care much for race.

Mimicking the stallions' action, she gave him a little bow in greeting. Her movements were fluid and graceful, never was there a fault in her movement. Her innocent gray eyes continued to gaze at the stallion, wondering why she felt that the stallion felt... tense about her presence. Maybe it was from her choice to not speak? She supposed it wouldn't matter since she felt no awkwardness at all.

Her ears strained to hear his words a bit. As soon as she heard them, she simply smiled to the stallion and nodded her head, acknowledging his greeting. Still, the mare stood quiet.

Nocturne didn't mind the fact that Aleshanee was so quiet. Though it surprised him that he didn't get a reply, he could only assume she was either very secretive or just plain mute. He'd never come across a mute before but he wasn't going to write it out of the picture. There was a first time for everything, after all. Kaliska was often very quiet and it was something Nocturne was accustomed to dealing with. . .

Not every soquili liked to banter and for that the winged male was incredibly grateful. He himself often fell on the quiet side of things. It wasn't that he didn't enjoy conversation, he just often kept to himself and much preferred to listen. He wasn't a very open stallion, he'd always been a bit reclusive and distant, it just took a persistent (or patient) someone to get him to relax.

As it was, the mare's initial quiet was perhaps a good thing. To notice that she wasn't damning him and his 'wretched' kind, or screaming in terror and bolting the other direction was rather refreshing. The fact she'd bothered to approach at all was even more impressive. Not many gave him the time of day. . . .

The tension in his shoulders began to ebb away as the silence stretched on. He took a moment to get a good look at the mare in question - an angeni, though she looked nothing at all like his mother or brother. She looked pure with the foot-wings and head-wings, and seemed to harbor a quiet personality. "I do hope I'm not intruding," he finally added quietly, glancing away to look over at the lake. It wasn't exactly accurate as he'd landed far enough away not to notice her presence and it had been she who had approached. . . .

But he was a gentleman past all the spikes and serious nature. If the lady wished him to be gone he'd hold no ill will nor make her wait.

Aleshanee felt even more happier when she saw the visible tension dissipate from the stallion's body. At least from what she could tell, the stallion was comfortable with her presence. The mare observed the stallion, blinking once in a while as her head wings twitched. Her ears perked up at his soft remark and smiled to him, shaking her head. She had not been doing anything of relative interest, nor anything that could be intruded on. The mare had simply been curious with the state of the slightly frozen pond.

Her gaze strayed away from the stallion to gaze at the slightly frozen pond. Never had she encountered another quiet soquili. She was happy to meet another one. The mare did not know whether he did it by choice, or if he was just naturally a quiet stallion. It still made her curious as to whether he appreciated more because of it.

The stallion wasn't always quiet, though it was his natural choice of things. There were many in his family that were naturally reserved - his grandfather, Azumoth, his great-grandfather Cyn, and of course his brother Esper and uncle Azuell. None of them were particularly loud soquili, and as such, there were many days of peace and quiet within the heart of the Grove.

Today was no exception.

Nocturne didn't feel awkward as the silence dragged on. He'd never met a mute before, or at least one that chose to aknowledge another in mere smiles, but to each their own. He wasn't about to judge and was rather relieved that he wasn't cornered by a million questions. "What are you?" "What are your wings like?" "Have you killed anyone?" "Do you eat meat?" "Are your parents freaks?" He'd heard it all so Aleshanee's quiet was a rather refreshing change.

Tail swishing lightly behind him, he tore his gaze off the mare before lowering his head to continue his drink. He really wasn't about to pursue conversation if she chose not to respond. Or, if she were mute, he wasn't about to make things awkward by chattering to her. He just didn't work like that. . . No, instead he'd appreciate her company for as long as she chose to stay.

It was nice to meet another that wasn't quick to judge or run in fear. And while he had nothing really to say, he was content. Of course, manners caused him to break the silence once more, if only out of courtesy. the fact she spoke not didn't concern him - she could most definitely hear as proof by her smiles and nods. "I'm Nocturne. Tis a pleasure," he added with a small shrug.

There really was nothing more to say after that. . . . but he didn't mind. Why couldn't two strangers commune in quiet? A novel idea to most of the Kawani but something the ebony stallion could certainly appreciate.

Aleshaneee watched the pond in front of her, her eyes still searching for life. Her ears pivoted towards Nocturne whom was speaking again. She turned her head to look at him, and nodded her head. The mare committed his name to memory, at least. She would never speak it, but.. maybe.. if she ever broke her oath... She shook her head, trying not to think about it. She at least felt like it was needed to remember his name.

Her eyes wandered away from the pond, looking over in mischief to the stallion. Was it bad that she had a budding urge to play? Her wings on her back folded neatly against her sides, and her wings on her head flitted playfully. To play.. or not to play.

She was an awfully quiet mare, but then again, Nocturne could be an awfully quiet stallion. He regarded the mare for a just a moment longer, finding her head wings movement a curious thing. His mother lacked the excess feathers, but his brother did not - unfortunately, he hadn't grown up with his brother around so he found the little winglets entertaining. . . or at least an interesting sort of thing.

The practical side of him also wondered what sort of purpose they achieved. . . . Outside of looking cute and making little movements, the design was something peculiar.

Oh well. The most peculiar thing on him was the natural transparency of his wings. He'd inherited them from his great-grandfather, but they allowed him flight and were solid enough. One could merely see through them which was a feat Nocturne hardly paid little attention to. They were wings, just a little clearer than everyone else. . . .

Turning back to the small pond, Nocturne had little more to say. He had introduced himself, he had proven that his intentions were neutral and he'd properly greeted the lady. If she chose not to speak or couldn't, well, Nocturne wasn't going to make things awkward by holding a one-sided conversation. He was content to enjoy the quiet, he found no strangeness in it, and didn't want to harass the pale mare either.

Just as she was leaving him to his own devices, he'd respect her space and do the same.

((Sorry he's kind of boring Lee. >: He's not my most outgoing sort. . . Mr. Reserved meets Miss Quiet. . .

Aleshanee enjoyed the fact that the other stallion was quite quiet as well, but wondered if he held a playful nature as well. Her tail wagged behind her as she neared the stallion a bit, her eyes trained on his white locks. The mare tried to divert her attention for when his attention on her. She didn't want him to see behind her plot! Then, it wouldn't be fun at all.

Seeing his attention move towards her own body to the pond before him, she took it as an opportunity to see if he was playful. Her ears perked forward, her face cracking from her forced seriousness to a withheld laughter and joy.

With another step, she leaned over and gently tugged on a random lock of the stallion's hair, before fleeing back away from the stallion. She crouched down, looking up to him in pure joy, wagging her tail. She waited out for his reaction to tugging on his hair, before she decided on what to do next.

Nocturne held a playful side, most certainly. There was a great part of him that wanted to cast aside his barriers and defenses, to wipe away the seriousness that often consumed him. His family was rather serious, some of them at any rate, and it was only natural that Nocturne mimic such quiet and composed behavior.

But one could not forget who his mother was. . . Numielle loved games and truly was a filly at heart. Though he seemed to follow more like his grandfather Azumoth, there was definitely a spot of Numielle in him. He harbored a great potential to love and to forgive as well as play! He'd grown up far too fast and unfortunately hadn't many friends as a foal. Training replaced games and soon became work. . . . So to find his mane tugged upon by the silent stranger confused him.

But only for a second.

He hadn't expected her to draw so near, but by the time he realized what she'd done she had already jerked away. His eyes went wide with surprise, confusion crossing his features for a moment while he tried hard to come to some sort of understanding. That had been . . . a gesture not committed out of maliciousness or ill intent. The mare looked so . . . . so innocent that he couldn't help but ease in to a grin.

His own spiked tail wagged in response. Had he been. . . .had he been tagged? It certainly seemed like it. . . . Memories of foalhood games similar in nature came back to the ebony male. Wings flaring lightly, though his expression was oddly content, he made sure she had ample warning of his intentions. "Either you've started a game of tag or are merely a habitual hair-puller. Regardless, you'd best watch out lest I give chase."

It wasn't typical for Nocturne to fall in to a game. . . Games were a bit of a rarity and something he often had no excuse to do. But her breeze (albeit quiet) nature reminded him strangely enough of Numielle. . . . There was something very innocent about the mare before him, so he couldn't help but appease her.

Aleshanee could only watch Nocturne's reaction. She wouldn't be too upset if he rejected her invitation to play, or if he simply did not understand her. She understood that not everyone could understand her intentions. Her tail wagged behind her, still hopeful that he would accept her invitation. The mare could only wait patiently, watching his expressions slightly change that would clue her in to what the stallion was feeling. After seeing one expression last more then the other, she merely tilted her head to one side as to bait for the answer for her unanswered invitation. She smiled to him brightly.

After waiting long enough, she saw it! His grin was enough. He was willing to play! Her tail wagged some more. Her heart felt so much lighter after the threat of being rejected dissipated before her. The mare pranced between the stallion and the forest behind him, excitedly nodded her head at the warning. Her face contorted in laughter again, looking determined for a quick moment. She drew closer to him, and closer, before getting so close she nudge her nose against his side before prancing away again.

Her eyes turned to look at Nocturne, daring him to give chase. Her tail continued to wag as her head wings and ankle wings gave energetic flutters every few moments, waiting for the moment Nocturne would give chase.

So he was going to play chase. . . tag. Or . . .or something of those sorts. Somewhere inside him, a little colt fought to rear his head and fight his way to the surface, but it wasn't very easy. Oh no. The defenses of adolescence and the maturity of age had created many barriers that made simple acts difficult - he needed to be alert and protective of those around him, from stranger to loved one. If he allowed himself to relax too much he might overlook some hidden danger. . .

But Aleshanee's innocence reminded him so much of his mother. He couldn't help but be drawn to that sweetness and he wasn't going to allow himself to disappoint the mare, stranger as she might be. Funny, he didn't even know her name! Well, clearing his throat lightly and giving his wings a little flap he heaved a breath.

Ok. . . games. Chase.

Fun.

He could do this. . . he id it as a foal before he became so serious.

. . . . right?

As she reached up and poked him Nocturne decided that a little game wouldn't hurt. He tried to relax and gave his tail a little wag. . . Gods, how long since he'd acted like a fool? Well, no need to keep the mare waiting. Snorting softly, he suddenly bolted forward, not fast enough to tackle her or overwhelm her. Red eyes bright, he was alert on what her next action might be, but also remembered to keep alert of their surroundings. . . .

One could never be too careful, after all, especially if he chased her deeper in to the woods.
PostPosted: Mon Mar 01, 2010 10:39 pm

Watching carefully, the mare stared at Nocturne with hopeful eyes. She had no clue what was going through his mind, and definitely was curious about his thoughts. Maybe she read him wrong? Maybe he didn't want to actually play. The mare tried to make the feeling of deflation go away, and maintain a cheerful demeanor as she waited for the stallion to make a movement, or say something. Her attention was set fully on him.

It was then, after she had moved to poke him, he made a move towards her! Her eyes widened in complete surprise! The mare felt a bubbling sensation of happiness from within her that the stallion was going to play.

Out of reflex to being bolted at, she jumped back a bit with absolute grace. Her gray eyes shone with sincere happiness and mirth, as she bowed her back and lowered her front half in a playful manner before galloping a bit further away from Nocturne.

Where Aleshanee held grace and poise, Nocturne felt a bit awkward and bumbling. Part of him realized he'd never live this scene down if his brother stumbled across him, but then another small part of him just plum didn't care. There was no shame in games, and while he hadn't participated in one in ages it . . . . it didn't mean he couldn't at least try to entertain and humor the mare.

She didn't speak, a mute perhaps, but she had told him clearly of her intentions. Far be it for him to judge her. Besides, it was good to break down and relax now and then. . . right? And if it was a game the lady wished than so be it; he'd be a gentleman enough to actually try to amuse her.

Pausing for a moment as she ducked down in a play-bow, the stallion's own tail couldn't resist the wagging movement behind him. Pawing at the ground with first one hoof and than te other, he gave a small snort (though the small smile was clear on his features) and lunged again.

"If you're not careful I'm liable to tag you," he 'threatened', leaping after her with wings half-flared. His intentions weren't malicious, though ironically enough one might get the wrong reason seeing as he looked so fierce, but hopefully nobody was around to witness their displays.
