Cali walked towards the main area of dens, searching for her Alpha. Phib had been gone a long time, but the Outriders was a fairly quiet pack, and she'd had little reason to come to Rage for most things. The only serious reason she had seen Rage for was to ask for permission for her pups to stay, really, and that had been months ago. The birth of Rage's pups had been another reason to see the Alpha, when she had come by to congratulate her and see what the Alpha's brood looked like. That, too, had been months ago.
She paused when the Alpha's den came into sight, watching the entrance in silence for a moment.
"Rage, are you home?"

Rage looked over the territory, it was bright and quiet, her children were all grown now, she was older, but her heart and spirit was still young. She was still waiting, for Phib and Amelie to return, it was quieter without them, without Phib's booming voice. A smile crossed her maw thinking of them, they were her parents, she knew, though not by blood but by choice, emotion, love.
Her ears flicked as she heard a vice, and she peered down from her perch. Cali was a lovely wolfess, proud and strong, Rage hopped from her place and walked behind her, half laughing, "Yes, but not in there," she spoke, the air carried a scent of a new time approaching.
Perhaps, soon, if Phib did not return, it might be time to pass the torch once again.
"It is wonderful to see you Cail, how have you and the children been hm?"

A smile crossed her face as Rage leapt down to meet her, and Cali wagged her tail briefly. "I'm well, and it's good to see you as well. My pups are fine young adults now. Strong and still growing." Her face fell and she carefully sat back. "And they're part of why I'm visiting, actually."
She hesitated and let out a breath that sounded more like a sigh. "You understand why they're in my care, the fire and their lost family. I made them a promise when they're were still small that they could return to find out what happened to their siblings and pack when they were old enough. I was hoping to put this off for a little bit longer, but... Eva's headstrong, and for their part they're right. The longer they wait, the colder the trail will get."
Cali shook her head. "I have to go with them. They're old enough to go, yes, but I worry that they won't be able to distinguish between cunning lies and honest goodwill. Not everything is as comfortable, safe, and trustworthy as our packlands. It's best for me to be there when it gets rough, at least at first. And I'm long overdue on doing some visiting of my own."
She met Rage's eyes steadily, sadness in them although her actions were born mostly of necessity. Cali had spoken a lot in just a few minutes, much more than she usually did, and it felt draining, as if the beaver dam had broken and let the river rush by unhindered. "Do you understand, Alpha?"

Rage listened to her words, and they were soft and kind as the waves, but Rage knew that Cali had a reason, to be protective, just as the waves are of rocky shores during a midnight storm. She swayed her tail, Rage's eyes were gentler now, amber fading into a slight silver, as Philokiss prophesied would happen.
"Of course I understand Cali, and you need not call me that, a true title, yes, but this pack is not based on formalities, they exist, but this is one of family and friends, not labels," she smiled and wondered if she should send a guard to go partway.
But no, that would be intruding upon what Cali wished to guide.
"You know, for afterward, there is always a home here, for you and the children as well. Our shores and woods will always be waiting for you to return," and who knew, Rage thought, perhaps Phib would be back by then.
"If you are searching for my blessing to go, please don't You are well worthy of choosing your path as they are, but I am glad I've gotten to see you before you part, is there anything you need before you go? A fresh meal perhaps? A scout to send words to a friend to make sure the way is clear?"

Calandra shook her head. "Nothing I need. It just seemed rude to vanish from the pack without visiting you first. Things here are quiet and safe for now, so Eva, Indie and I can hunt for a small meal on the way out. They'll need the practice for later."
A smile spread on her face as she thought about meeting Phib the first time. She'd been a very different wolf, and although she didn't feel as if she had changed very much, she knew that she had. Too much had happened, and she had been a mother. That made her feel older, more mature, and she'd been less skittishly shy since before Evadne and Indeygo's arrival into her life.
"I'll remember this always as home, always a place to return to. I'm sure I'll stop back to visit every now and again as well. We can't look forever; there's a point where acceptance steps in to take the burden of a lost family."
She wagged her tail again. "I hope things here stay quiet. And if we settle down elsewhere you're always welcome to visit us."

Yes, here things had been so quiet. Rage wondered if perhaps it was a message in silence, but no matter the prophecies the sun shaman spoke to her, she felt like she could never withdraw from here. No, she would never want to move on without Phib and Amelie beside her, they were the only ones Rage had close to family, parents, she could not leave without them.
She could not let Phib's legacy be cast the the sea winds on the shore.
"I am glad you will forever be fond of this place," she offered a smile, swayed her tail and lifted her nose to the wind, inhaled and her eyes opened to another time that would begin again.
So much had happened in secret, perhaps things would not be so quiet in the future, depending on others' actions.
"I wish you all well on your journey, and do not hesitate to send word if you need anything, or send word of your arrival to another home," Rage was fond of Calandra, everyone here, she did not wish to see any part from these lands.
But times did change as time wore on with the moon.
"I'd like that, though I wonder how Daemon would like a trip," she laughed, Daemon never seemed to want to venture far beyond the borders, even with patrolling with Logan, Wrigley and the others.
"I wish you well," she spoke again, ears listening, but slightly fallen, new times were coming, for everyone.

"Thank you," Calandra replied as she stood and shook her tail to rid it of a clinging leaf. "I'll send word if I don't return myself, though who with I don't know. There are planty of strange wolves travelling Telk. Always have been. I'm sure someone will be able to carry a message this far."
Calandra glanced out as if she could see Daemon coming in now. "Your mate might enjoy some time away. If nothing else he can use it to reaffirm how much better Outriders is for him than out there." A smile crossed her face to take any perceived ill-will from the comment. The Outriders were far from most packs-- aside from Glen Abhainn of course-- and likely anywhere Cali would settle would be close to Akiiki Chibale's lands. Assuming she settled anywhere. If her pups found their way to a new home, she might very well return to Outriders. Somehow, though, she felt like the next wind that carried her way-- the way the native two-leggers had put it-- wouldn't lead her back here. Not right away, at least.

"Yes, perhaps, though I fear he wouldn't want to venture far from his children, and the old elder hear. Daemon loves hearing stories from that sun pelted wolf, I think it calms him, remembering his old home," Rage swayed her tail and breathed deeply, smelled the rest of those around that were close, the salt air. She remembered when she despised it, and tasted it on her tongue with every breath once she was brought here, saved.
Her heart longed for the return of her extended family, and wondered when , if when, they would return, she felt guilty thinking of moving on, letting their memories rest hear alone, peaceful for when they did return.
"Send word as soon as you can, and may the winds carry you on your journey with ease," she smiled and wondered, what was the word really like beyond these borders. Did anything else exist, besides the old home of memory, the running path drawn here, and this land.
She knew she might never draw herself away to find out.

Calandra lifted her head as in the distance a wolf cried out, a howl that sounded more like a question than anything else. "I fear my children think I've lost my way. I'm getting old you know." She smiled wryly at Rage. "Senile. I certainly can't find my way back to my den when I need to." The impatience of youth. That wasn't a usual thing for Cali to think, but for some reason she was feeling her age this morning. Perhaps it was the change that was at hand. Although she couldn't remember feeling quite this way the last time she'd had a large change in her life. Maybe something about maturing past a yearling's age had done this.
"Thank you." Some odd look in the female's eyes told Cali that a visit from Rage, or a return trip of her own, might be a long... long time in coming, but she smiled regardless.
She turned back to the woods. Her children needed her, even if that meant leaving the pack she considered home. Homes changed. It seemed now was the time for Cali to change hers again.
