Haath. Was. Angry. Not your normal Angry Haath is Angry kind of angry. More of a 'Look at me wrong and I'm going to put your insides on your outsides' kind of angry. She had woken up in a good mood, spent a good few minutes lounging on her ledge, pondering whether or not to get up and bother her favorite sibling Astarteth when she...when she caught Hers with a boy. They weren't doing anything other than talking; nothing so scandalous as bedding, but even with Haath's limited recognition of human social habits, it was clear he was hitting on her. And this upset Haath very, very much.

T'ka had assured Haath that nothing was going on, that she had no intention of getting romantically involved with the man, but...Haath was not so easily calmed. She needed some time to calm herself, so she decided to do the one thing that always made her happy. Kill stuff. Presently, she circled over a group of wherries, eyes a blazing red of hunger and anger. With a shriek, she dove on one of the beast, landing feet first on it, crushing it beneath her weight. There was something so empowering as it cried out, dying, terrified; and that made Haath feel better. With another feral scream, she proceeded to rip the thing up, forgetting to swallow half of the time. As soon as she finished, she moved onto another leaving a mess of feathers, blood and guts on the ground, and covered in the stuff herself. She was quite the sight, to be sure.

As she tore up her second wherry, she felt herself calming. Hers hadn't been doing anything. And Hers usually liked girls, right? Hers didn't bring men to sleep in their Weyr. And girls wouldn't make Hers have a baby, and even if they did, Haath could always take her between, right? Haath reasoned, eyes slowing their vicious whirling. Besides, Hers was smart, and loved Haath. More than any stupid boy. She finished up her Wherry, leaving quite a bit. She hadn't even been that hungry. But a Wherry was a good outlet, and surely some other lazy dragon would be willing to clean up the rest of her meal. There was a lot of good meat left.

Still upset, but not nearly as much as she was before, she turned around and started a quick walk back in the general direction of her weyr. Darn sun was getting in her eyes, so she bent her head low, and caught up in her thoughts, she wasn't very mindful of where she was going, or whether anyone was in her way.

PostPosted: Sun Jan 17, 2010 6:53 pm

Sharath was hungry but there was a moody green down below, scaring her prey with the vicious strikes and it made her rumble with annoyance. The green ought to let her feed and then return to terrorizing the wherries! Thus, the gold trumpeted a warning before she dipped out of the air and winged out across the herd, driving them before her until she snatched a wherry with her hind claws and flung it aside in a fatal toss. Quick, easy, and efficient, her method of killing made use of her size and it was a bit of an ego boost for the gold - only an adolescent, she already dwarfed the adult greens and blues.

Whuffing with satisfaction as she took up a corner of the feeding area for herself, she set about her meal after she'd dragged it further away from the angry green. This was her kill, thanks, and anyone who thought to interrupt would not be met by a willing lunch partner.

Already feeding on his own off to one side of the pen, Sakneth crunched the bones of his herdbeast. It had been a young one, between childhood and adolescence, but he was still proud of the kill. He'd taken it from the air. Flying was still an exhilarating treat for the senior weyrling, and having caught and killed a herdbeast on the fly, even a young one, was an accomplishment he was proud of. He would tell B'shir of his prowess later. That might even be something the dark young man appreciated.

He had watched with disgust as an overgrown wher of a green mauled some prey without seeming to eat any of it, wasting the meat. With B'shir as his bondmate, Sakneth had learned early on that he wasn't to waste meat because most of it came from tithes that were given by holds. He was, of course, entitled to eat more than lesser colors, but B'shir always insisted that he take no more than he could actually eat. It was one of the few things his rider had told him that made sense to him and stayed with him among all the arguments they had on a daily basis.

The green being wasteful was not, however, his problem. At least, he didn't feel like interrupting his lunch to take her to task for her lack of regard. He was basking in the glow of his own skills as a hunter, and far too well-pleased with himself to spoil the mood with thoughts of a barbaric green. He returned to gnawing on a haunch. The steaming entrails had long since vanished down his gullet. He wondered idly if he might not be hungry enough to also take down a wherry, or if that would be excessive of him. Certainly it would provide him with an opportunity to show the foolish green how things were supposed to be done when hunting.

It was as he was reliving his own spectacular kill that Sakneth chanced to glance upward and see the familiar silhouette of Sharath. Familiar to him because he had lately begun to take a keen interest in her when he thought no one was looking. She and their mother were the only gold dragons in the Weyr, the only females worthy of his attention. It was only natural that he would commit to memory her form and color and the timbre of her voice. Seeing her in flight, however, was a rare treat. It made his mind leap forward to a time when he might fly with her.

It wasn't right, he remembered, for lesser dragons to eat before a queen. He had already been eating, but the green should have noticed Sharath's arrival and given her the first choice of the beasts that remained. His eyes turned briefly red with annoyance at the slight to his golden clutchmate by a wretched green with the grace of a paraplegic. He, too, rumbled irritably, but quickly cut himself off lest Sharath think his ire was directed at her. B'shir told him that in their youth they had occasionally clashed, though Sakneth couldn't remember that far back.

He watched appreciatively as Sharath took down her kill with grace. It was only a wherry, and so not as impressive as his own herdbeast, but it was still done with more flair than that green, who had become downright offensive to him in a matter of moments. Without moving from his prey, Sakneth addressed the spotted green:

The next time a gold approaches, you should show her the respect she's due.
PostPosted: Mon Jan 18, 2010 10:49 am

Haath was pondering taking to the air when Sakneth interupted her thoughts, and this was simply unacceptable. How dare that bronze tell her what to do! He was barely out of the egg himself! She wheeled, head whipping back to glare daggers at Sakneth. Her lip quivered, threatening a snarl, but she decided that she wasn't close enough for it to be truly effective. He was metallic. He was a waste of her time.

But on the other hand, he was a good outlet. She couldn't very well scream and yell at Hers, she would feel guilty, but this bronze whelp would do nicely. Haughty little know-it-all. Probably thought that he was in the right, simply because he was bronze; comfortable up on his little throne. She would take it upon herself to knock him down a few pegs. Haath hadn't much experience with metallics. She could recall a particular bronze down at Ista that she really, really hadn't gotten along with, and that pretty much spoiled the whole image for her. This bronze would do nicely, especially seeing as he was so young.

<DARE presume you can tell me what to do, Weyrling,>> Haath spat, emphasizing the last word. <>

She glanced at the young gold, and quickly turned her gaze away. Still a youngling as well. At least she hadn't been so rude as to interupt, but she was still at fault for being, well, a gold. In Haath's mind anyway, gold's were something of a joke. With the exception of one, she strongly disliked all the golds she'd encountered before, and that only served to strengthen her poor opinion of them. Why should a gold's presence interrupt her meal? It seemed silly and presumptuos to Haath.

Sharath looked up as the two started to roar and snarl, the mental shouts catching her attention but she ignored them, taking her time to eat her meal. If the two wanted to argue, they could - they weren't slandering her or Hers. In fact, she was more curious as to why Sakneth was charging in to defend (?) her, driving her to move towards them, head held high. Sakneth, don't waste your time on that one. I can take care of myself. If you must chastise her... the point to be made is the blatant waste.

She tossed her head in the direction of the carnage that was strewn about one side of the area as she came to stand beside the bronze in a subtle display of support. The power lay with her here, and Sharath knew it... made it plain to both Sakneth and Haath. She rumbled, not angrily, and regarded the green, waiting to see if she would press the issue.

Sakneth's eyes turned an unpleasant shade of bloody red at Haath's response. As far as he was concerned, he had been absolutely correct in taking her to task for her rudeness, and her reaction was only proof of her inferiority. Did she not realize to whom she was speaking? He was a bloody bronze for Faranth's sake, and she was only an infertile, fire-breathing green female. He bared his teeth in a self-satisfied smile that was almost hostile, pleased with the phrase he'd just come up with to describe her and filing it for later use should she push him further.

And she did, which turned his eyes a deeper red but simultaneously spread his toothy grin. He got to his feet slowly, aware that he was only average size for a bronze his age, but still large enough to seem large to a green. He was fairly certain that his expression combined with his size and the blood smeared on his muzzle would give him a menacing appearance. He snarled for good measure before he flexed his wings and addressed himself to Haath once more.

Sakneth didn't get to give voice to his lovely insult, however, because Sharath's voice cut him off. At her request, he stood down and made a minimal effort to calm down as well. He wasn't sure how thin the ice he walked was, but he had learned with Sharath that things went more smoothly if he just did as she wanted. Providing she didn't phrase it as a command. He didn't take commands from anyone, but he would consider requests from Sharath.

I was getting to that, he said. Even his mental tone was raspy with a near-growl. The growl wasn't directed at Sharath, and he was reasonably certain she would understand that the growl was simply his wrath toward Haath. Unless you had something specific you wished to say on the subject?

He was actually a little confused by what he perceived to be passivity on Sharath's part. She was always quick to assert herself and remind others of her bright future, and yet she did not want him to speak out in defense of her authority and position. It was a momentary crisis: was she objecting to the defense, or the fact that he had been the one to make it? He came to the conclusion that she was simply putting on a show of being self-reliant. Everyone knew golds weren't fighters, and needed bronzes to protect and defend them.

Goody goody goldy had to side with the bronze, did she? Typical. Didn't care about the anxiety of a green, no sir. Didn't care to hear about what was bothering old Haath, no maam. Haath wondered if their ignorance was bred in; it certainly seemed that way.

Oh, oh. Did he just get up, did he just threaten her. Size had never been an issue for Haath. She wasn't the largest of greens, but her confidence combined with her strong, wher-like build and the fact that she was much older than this whelp assured her that she was in the right. The fact that he had the gall to take that tone with her, that stance, was infuriating. In a quick movement, she jerked forward, feigning a lunge, and snapped her teeth loudly at him. The loud click of tooth on tooth was quite appealing, if she did say so herself. Then again, she'd had a lot of practice with these sort of things. She puffed up her chest in a natural reaction to make herself seem larger, and flared her wings.

She ignored Sharath's rumble. Why she had come over in the first place, Haath didn't care. If it was to cow her into submission, it wasn't going to work. At least not that easily. Haath had been slighted, and she would not back down until the issue had been righted.

The next comments she was sure to direct only to Sakneth, to the exclusion of Sharath, seeing as she might take...unkindly to it. And Haath didn't fancy being commanded by a queen. She was loathe of the fact tha she had to listen to orders, and would avoid so at nearly all costs. <> she teased, head held high, glaring at Sakneth with a mixture of contempt and disgust. <> she laughed, her tone dripping with sarcasm.

Angry as she was, she found a certain delight that she was behaving this badly, and receiving no reprimand from it. An advantage of the fact that Hers wasn't present. The Weyr was too polished for her tastes. Too refined. It was disgusting.

PostPosted: Mon Jan 18, 2010 8:05 pm

Sharath turned her attention on the bronze once more and rumbled a little louder, displeasure creeping into the tones of her voice as she spoke, You needn't defend me, Sakneth, I am capable of doing so on my own. I do have something to say and that is, mind your own business. Her tone was even but it took on an edge towards the end that turned into a growling, angry hiss as the green snapped at Sakneth.

Shouldering the bronze out of the way, Sharath mantled her wings as she dipped her head, eyes whirling red. Planting herself firmly between Sakneth and the uppity green, she snarled and puffed out her own chest - easily dwarfing the green. She might be a queen but she was certainly not above asserting her authority or meeting challenge with challenge and while she could not hear the jabs the green took at the bronze, the gold did not need to - it was easily seen as some sort of challenge, a snub.

Sakneth, she rumbled, that tone of authority thick in her mental speech, heading off the altercation she could sense was already brewing, you will not fight this one. And you... Her lips curled up in a show of bloody, dagger-length teeth, I took no offense to your feeding, green. I will not tolerate your aggression. Speak your problem or leave.

This. Was not how it was supposed to go. And Sharath clearly wasn't thinking at all. Or she knew nothing about Weyr hierarchy, not having any actual experience of it, being locked away in lessons with their mother all day. For a gold to refuse the protection of a bronze was unnatural, and for her to put him in a position where backing down would weaken him and fighting would defy her orders was just cruel. This was why he hated women. They were stupid! Case in point: the green snapping at him. She was lucky Sharath had told him not to do anything.

On a tightly-controlled mental channel, Sakneth answered Haath, I'm more than a match for any green, particularly one that's half-wher. I didn't know they were so desperate at your old Weyr that they allowed whers to fly queens. What a pathetic mother you must have had.

As he spoke, Sakneth's body was angled toward Sharath, showing her that he was paying attention to her. He wasn't thrilled at her orders, but he was at least listening to her. Obeying her, however, was not high on his list of priorities, and it infuriated him that he had no choice when she took that tone with him. Fortunately, his eyes were already a bloody red, and so it was more likely that she would interpret that as anger at Haath and not herself. The stupid queen probably thought she was being diplomatic in her actions. He was not impressed with her form of diplomacy.

As you said, she's not worth my time, Sakneth said with a disdainful roll of his eyes that was directed at Haath.
PostPosted: Wed Jan 20, 2010 7:38 am

Haath's anger, however much it might have subsided, flared up twofold the minute Sharath used that little bit of gold say-so on her. Oh, how she hated that. She raged internally, struggling against an obstacle she couldn't overcome, trembling slightly at the effort. Why did she have to get involved? Sure, the initial topic had concerned her, but that wasn't Haath's issue. Sakneth's pride and attitude were her issue. As far as Haath was concerned, Sharath had no right to intrude on this conversation.

She shot Sakneth a glance from around Sharath's bulk, wishing that she could throttle him with her eyes. Too bad. <> she retorted, on the same mental channel. Why Sakneth had chosen to bring up her parents and Ista, Haath couldn't fathom. She...couldn't remember who her mother was. Not that that bothered her. Her mother was a gold, and therefore inferior. As for Ista...why should she care about that? She could hardly remember the name most of the time. But perhaps this was something that made more sense to Sakneth than it did to her. Her wher-like build had always been a source of pride for her. If Sakneth saw to it to insult her for it...good for him. At least he was criticizing her for something that was real. But that was all she could get away with, she would have to answer to Sharath now, her body and mind commanded it.

She turned to the much larger queen, but refused to be threatened. So she glared right back, standing on tippy-toe, her eyes never leaving Sharath's. Except for the few times she shot nasty looks at Sakneth's way. Mustn't forget about him. <> Haath began, with a quiet rumble of disapproval. <> she said, accompanying this with a snort.

<> she informed, matter-o-factly. So what if it was a sensitive issue? It was true. This was a ghost-Weyr. Isn't that why they were asking other Weyrs for queens and other dragons and things of the like? No one would miss two wherries, Haath was sure.

<>

<<However>> and at this she turned to pointedly glare at Sakneth. <do take offense when a young dragon thinks he has a right to tell me what to do and say, with no regard for my color or position as a wingrider. This blatant lack of respect is horrifying, really. Your friend there seems under the impression that size and color puts him in the right. I was planning on educating him otherwise,>> Haath stated, turning her gaze back to Sharath.

Nor is it becoming of you, Green. Sharath shot back, shifting her weight from side to side. Her instincts told her that an altercation between any dragon was fundamentally wrong. Should she have allowed the bronze and green to tear at each other? Surprisingly, everything in her screamed that the answer was no. Trade words? Of course. Fight? Not likely.

One brow ridge arched at the remark that she take the time to hear the complaint and she snorted, I am listening, Haath. And I have not sided with Sakneth. She didn't feel the need to justify herself to the green and so left it at that - who was Haath to need a reason as to why she stood by her clutchmate? Hah.

Not a stupid dragon, Sharath could easily take that concept and reach far with it, tilting her head as she lifted it now that she was certain the green would not attack the bronze, So your wastefulness is excused by temper? What, then, are you to do when the Weyr is full, Haath? Will the same reason hold? There was obvious contempt in her mind speech as she rumbled, finding the lack of self restraint and respect for their food source disappointing.

A rumbling laugh escaped the gold then and she stepped to the side, Scattering the herd and strewing the meat - without eating it - across the field is what I take issue with. Moving out of my way is not a difficult thing. Unless you'd rather I landed on your head. She swung her head around to Sakneth and seemed to ponder him for a moment, tail flicking as she settled her wings back against her sides. After a few heartbeats of silence, she lifted her head high and grinned, He is as of yet lower rank and put his snout where it did not belong. Lecture if you want, but know if you fight, you'll not like the consequence.

Sakneth might not like it... but she really, truly, couldn't disagree with the green's intent to lecture the bronze. She would lecture him if he said anything about his having to defend her. Sharath was the gold, here, thanks not Sakneth and Sakneth would never be the gold. He should realize this by now. Snorting, she backed up and took a position to the side and between them.

What would happen now? She was curious, figuring she'd solved the issue well enough.
PostPosted: Thu Jan 21, 2010 7:12 am

Sakneth wasn't even going to dignify Haath's retort with a response. After all, he had only the green's word to go by that she was more intelligent than he, and he'd yet to see any evidence of that. Besides, a green's word was more or less worthless, like the entire color. He had yet to meet a green dragon who met with his standards. The only green thing he knew of that didn't annoy him with her inadequacies was B'shir's green firelizard, Shibra, who barely registered for him most of the time, except that she seemed to understand instinctively that he was so much her superior she should never try to initiate contact.

A large part of him wanted to point out that if this was Sharath taking his side, he would hate to see what it looked like when they were in opposition. The Weyr would probably come crumbling down around them. It would almost certainly be an explosive confrontation. He said nothing, though. It seemed that in this instance he would be better off letting Sharath say her piece. Besides, he was forbidden to fight with Haath - not that he would have. Fighting a green was beneath his dignity. He was a bronze, for Faranth's sake.

At least Sharath had stated bluntly that she was not siding with him. He would have preferred it if she would behave like a proper female and allow him to defend her, but since she wouldn't, at least her declaration of non-alliance meant it wouldn't seem like he needed her to fight his battles for him. He was, after all, the one trying to fight Sharath's battles. That was what a bronze did. A very nasty part of his mind seethed that she would never have taken Roheth to task for doing as Sakneth had done. She probably would have found it noble and charming. Everyone found Roheth noble and charming.

He had to work not to show his amusement when Haath mentioned that he had no regard for her color. He had regard for her color. That was why he'd said anything to begin with. She was a green. A useless, infertile green whose only positive trait was her quickness and maneuverability in the air. In Haath's case, he sincerely doubted she was particularly quick or maneuverable. Not a hulking wherdragon like that. He also failed to see why her being in a bad mood should make the slightest difference to whether he should lecture her or not.

He also saw no reason why he should be subjected to a lecture just because Haath was older than he was. However, he would sit there and hear it. He wouldn't listen, but he would sit there. And then he would thank her sweetly for sharing her expertise with him and go back to his herdbeast.

Urgh, stupid gold. Didn’t she realize she was ruining everything? This was not the victory Haath wanted, this was hardly a victory at all! Both she and Sakneth had lost and this point, and that was a shame. <> Haath replied to Sharath, her contempt far from hidden. Why were her habits being called into question? Haath wasn’t sure, and she didn’t care. Some people talked out their problems, some people drew pictures, some people screamed into pillows; Haath killed wherries. That made perfect sense to her. Wher-brained metallics didn’t seem to understand the logic in that. Haath’s brand of logic, anyway.

She growled loudly when Sharath made the comment about landing on her head. Where was the objective attitude she was supposed to have? Where was the fairness? She wasn’t insulting Sakneth like that! <> Haath hissed, claws digging into the dirt beneath her, as if she could anchor herself there. Who was this baby to think she could threaten Haath? Wingrider and infamous Wher-dragon? Her ignorance was just as painful as Sakneth’s lack of respect! What was Pern coming to, didn’t any of the younglings these days have manners? This was infuriating, truly. She had half a mind to take a lunge at Sharath herself, but that…felt a little too wrong for Haath. Some feeling deep in her gut told her to stand her ground rather than advance, and she listed to this feeling. For now.

She rounded on Sakneth, eyes ablaze, and had difficulty deciding on a course of action, due in no small part to the anger clouding her judgment. This was not victory. This was Sharath intruding and holding him down. She took little pleasure in this, and it was obvious neither did he. <> not that Haath was ever subtle, <enjoy it. Learn your place, Bronze. You may be metallic, but that does not automatically place you in the right.>>

PostPosted: Wed Feb 03, 2010 5:46 pm

What amount of calm Sharath had was instantly and completely evaporated as the green saw fit to call her place into question. With a threatening growl and eyes that whirled the colour of blood, the young queen roared at Haath and flared her wings, looking for all intents and purposes as intimidating as she could. Fool. Without Gold, there is no Green. No Bronze, or Blue or Brown. Without a queen, there are no dragons... no Weyrs. Are you stupid and base as to think you have the right to question my role? You are greedy, wherdragon. Greedy and you disgust me.

She growled, teeth bared as she advanced on the green, temper flaring with each step, I will Rise and do my duty by the Weyr and it will prosper. Can you lay claim to that prestige? No. Ever the ambitious queen, and never shy about making that position known. The gold tossed her head, angry that this green could not see her attempt to side with Haath. How very ignorant!

Raising her head, she snarled once more, I was in support of you, you dullglow. I take no issue with your role in the Weyr and yet you question mine. Take your fight elsewhere. I wish to eat in peace. The gold turned away then, presenting her back to the green in an obvious dismissal.

Without another word she left the small group, her hackled raised and whirling red. When she approached the wherry group, they scattered almost instantly - sensing the queen's ire - and it took a moment before she corned one well enough to tear the poor beast apart in frustration. She made a point to devour the shreds, however, as she tossed her head to look back at the two most annoying creatures in the Weyrbowl at present.

Mine! Where are you?
She called privately, catching Amelia's attention immediately.

A moment later, she took to the air in search of her rider, preferring the goldrider's company to the stupid bronze and green.

Sakneth's eyes gleamed a bloody red once more as Haath took up against Sharath. True, the gold was infuriating and had no concept of social structure, but she was a gold, and no green had the right to address her like that. If he had not already decided that she was unworthy of his attention and if he had not already been ordered not to take any sort of aggressive action against Haath, he might have given serious consideration to putting the bulky green in her place. Physically would be nice, but verbally would do. Instead, he had to sit there and bear a lecture from her because Sharath had no concept of how interaction was supposed to work in a hierarchical society. Sure, she understood that she was at the top of the hierarchy, and clearly she didn't have a thought for anyone beneath her, though she expected them all to keep her central in their thoughts.

He seethed at females in general, his outrage at Haath and his disgust at Sharath keeping his eyes an angry shade of crimson. It spoiled his plan to sit and listen to Haath's lecture without showing any emotion. At this point he would have to content himself with listening to Sharath put the spotted green in her place. Annoying paradox, Sharath was. She wanted everyone to bow and scrape at her feet, but she wanted to be the only one allowed to enforce any authority or exert any control over others.

It was enjoyable to see Haath put in her place, but he would have enjoyed it more if he had been able to participate in the chastisement and hadn't just been forced to listen to a lecture about how she was someday going to best him in the air. Not bloody likely. And as for her pulling her weight, he hadn't noticed her doing much of that. As Sharath had said, she would never lay eggs, and Thread wasn't falling. Under such conditions, no green dragon had anything to brag about. Just the same, he gave her something akin to a smile and thanked her. Sweetly. As he'd planned.

When that was done, he turned away from both females and returned to his kill. He didn't understand why B'shir insisted females were meant to be protected.
