The ground, warmed by the sun and softened with the grasses, was pleasant under her cream-toed paws as she wandered, in spite of the mild dampness. She’d traveled over many many kinds of terrain, cold and stony, soft and shifting with sand, grass so tall she could lose even herself in it! So many wonderful places and things and people could be found in this great wide world she lived in. Even had the skies broken and cast a deluge to soak her light fur until she was chilled to the bone, it wasn't likely to be enough to dampen her spirits.

Weather did not make the world, though it might help to shape it. No, what made the world what it was…were all the very many different sorts that lived in it. And so, what harm then could a few small sprinklings of water cause? Flowers seemed to enjoy the drizzle that was starting up, and her fur was thick enough to keep it from bothering her too much. Should it start storming in earnest, Keena might have looked for somewhere to lay low for a while.

But for now, the lioness merely gave her pale coat a little shake to scatter some of the lingering droplets, her nose crinkling as a cold drip landed squarely on it. It had been sunny for so very long, surely they were due for a drop of rain.

It wasn't pouring though, just a little drizzle. Enough to make the flowers sparkle as though crusted with diamonds in the glancing little sunbeams that picked their way through the clouds.

He really didn't care about the weather, he didn't care about much really. Too much had gone on in his life to really care about much anymore. He was so young when his father tired, when he was left on his own so young to take care of himself. nothing much seemed to matter anymore. He wasn't really that sure how he was still here, he didn't eat all the time. Occasionally he would catch something but that was when he felt like he but that was only then. He was pretty skinny, but he didn't care.

His fur was damp from the rain, his hair fell over his eyes, his mane was a mess, he was sprawled out on top of a rock. He was waiting for a kick of energy so he could go figure out something o do. But to tell the truth he just felt like sleeping. Thats all he ever felt like doing. He sighed a little bit before shifting slightly to pull his paws a little closer to him and to stretch out his back legs. He lifted his head for a moment. He could smell some one coming.

He squinted his eyes as he looked up, his mane was hiding the light from his eyes for a while, so when he lifted his head it was a little hard to see at first. He blinked his eyes a few times before he looked at the lioness coming his way. He looked pretty but he knew he wouldn't end up getting along with her. He didn't get along with much of anyone. They called him boring a lot of the time. But it was just the way he was. He lowered his head once more and sighed hoping that the lioness wouldn't see him.

It wasn't so bad being a bit wet. Actually, since it had been so warm where she'd been traveling lately, a bit of cool rain was quite nice really. And the flowers would love it, she was sure.

Not bothering to shake herself off again, though there really would be little point soon, Keena simply continued on her way to nowhere in particular. If the rain really started coming down, she might look for somewhere to find some shelter to rest under, but so far so good. A bit of rain wasn't going to hurt her, more likely she would just keep up her comfortable pace unless the sky started to rumble and flash. She wasn't fond of thunder and lightning, it made her fur stand all on end. It had never actually hurt her, though she remembered a lioness, her mother maybe, telling her that it wasn't safe to play in.

If it started to thunder she was going to look for a place to lie down. If it came to that. But until then...

...oh hey, was someone over there?

Keena blinked, tipping her head slightly to peer at a rock, then flicking her ear as water started to drip into it. That tickled! But there was someone there. Was he enjoying the rain then? It looked sort of like a rock to sunbathe on, but the sun was steadily going away now. So what might he be doing? He wouldn't mind if she tried keeping him company, would he?

A friendly smile curving across her features, Keena padded happily towards him, quite oblivious to her pale coat being soaked through.

"Hello there," she called, pausing a few lengths away. Just in case he was one of those people who were really protective of personal space. She would hate to upset him when they'd only just met!

His tail twitched as he heard the other start to get closer to him, he wasn't sure why others had to come his way, it really never made sense to him. He lifted a paw and ran a clawed paw in his mane as she approached, realizing how knotted it was. He looked up at the lioness she was also wet, but one thing was for sure that she didn't look anything like him. He knew he looked horrible, there was no denying that. He looked up at the lioness with a blank stare before resting his head on his paws.

"Hello..." His voice was monotonous yet deep, a grumble of a voice yet it was understandable. He tired his best to sit up as much as he felt like it. "May I help you?" His voice was a little annoyed but he couldn't help. Hw didn't understand why everyone wanted to talk to him when he wanted to be left alone. He always wanted to be left alone. He didn't know why he just couldn't leave this world yet. He looked at the lioness again before letting out a small sigh. "Who are you?" He asked simply before sitting up.

He was still a rather large lion, but his bones were showing almost every where you could look. His face was tired looking and blank. His teal eyes once bright but now were dull and uncaring. He hadn't looked well in a long, Long time.

As she drew closer it became more apparent that the other lion didn’t look so good. Sure he was mostly soaked, she was rather bedraggled from being rained on herself. But there was more than that. He just… he didn’t look like he was doing well. It wasn’t that his looks were horrible, his fur must be a rich dark color under all that water, and she rather thought there was a pretty pale pattern along his back. But there was something a little bit off about him it seemed…

Her ears pricked forwards as his deep voice grumbled out a monotonous greeting. It gave her pause for a moment, uncertain if she was wanted here. But if he didn’t want her, why would he ask if she needed help? Though…to be honest, it seemed to her like he was the one who needed help. Was he sick? Hurt? Surely he couldn’t have been hunting well, not if his bones showed like that beneath the rain-plastered fur. He was larger than she was, certainly an adult, so he must be capable of looking after himself. So then…why did he look so unwell?

“My name is Keena,” she said, choosing to respond to his question about who she was, closing the distance between herself and the rock he was occupying. Now that she’d gotten a good look at him, she was pretty sure he wasn’t going to suddenly try to drive her away. More likely he’d ask her to leave. “Are…are you alright?” the lioness asked after a moment, feeling guilty about being even just that blunt, but she could always pass it off as wondering why he was out in the rain or something. She was just concerned was all…

Yiska lifted his head just a little more, trying to get a better look at the female. He was still a pretty curious lion, he wanted to know what she looked like. Her coat was pretty pale, she looked pretty nice but she had to say that. But it didn't matter she was going to be some one else who just so happen to pass through his life. He grunted at the idea, there wasn't anyone who stuck around for long. Even his father didn't stay around for long, sure it wasn't his father's fault but the point is that he wasn't around.

He nodded toward her remembering her name, he wasn't going to say anything else to her name. He felt there really wasn't anything else to say to it. He snorted at her question. He hated that question he got it so often, it was something that he easily got tired of hearing it. He looked at the lioness before letting out a laugh. "Are you okay?" He let out a small but dark chuckle before nodding his head. 'I'm as fine as I want to be." He shook his head a few times then sat back on his haunches some. He glanced at her before flicking her hair out of her eyes. He really looked like hell and he had to admit it. He really had to admit it. But he didn't do anything to fix the way he looked. He didn't care he looked like hell.

She had to admit, she was just a little disappointed when he didn’t offer his name in return for hers. But she hadn’t asked. It might have been nice to know, but if he didn’t feel like sharing it, then that was fine. She could still talk to him, if he didn’t mind that is.

When he chuckled darkly and shook his head, Keena’s ears lowered ever so slightly with uncertainty. It felt almost like she’d upset him, though he wasn’t acting upset. And his answer…it was like there was something wrong. Something was there, even she could sense it. But she didn’t know what it might be. Maybe he was hurt and didn’t want to show it to a stranger. But that didn’t fit with his turn of phrase. Not ‘As fine as I canbe.’ He’d said ‘As fine as I want to be.

Why ever would someone not care to feel better than they did? Surely having a little fun, doing something they enjoyed, surely it wouldn’t hurt anything? Oh… perhaps…perhaps he was grieving. He certainly seemed like he was sad. But she was sure whoever it was wouldn’t have wanted him to be miserable once they were gone…

The lioness shook her head slightly, flicking a few of the wet tufts of hair that had gotten in her face out of her eyes. The rain was still pleasant, but standing in it was somehow different from walking in it. It couldn’t be helping whatever was bothering him, lying all by himself in the drizzle that grew slowly stronger…

“…I was thinking of finding someplace out of the rain,” Keena said after a few moments, “Would you…help me look?” Somehow, she didn’t think he would ‘care to come with me?’. He didn’t seem much like he cared to do anything…

Yiska flicked his tail around as he stared at the lioness. His dull teal eyes staring at her yellow ones. He was curious on why she was still around, he wasn't being the most friendly and on top of that he wasn't making much attempt to talk to the other creature. He wasn't that sure why she was sticking around he just didn't understand it. Most of the time by now any other creature that he had met would have wandered away awkwardly by now. He tried his hardest to keep a scowl off of his face.

He flicked his hair out of his eyes once more then shrugged at the lioness. "I'll help you look. The closest place I know is a little far off..." He looked in the direction of it with a small laugh before lifting himself off of the ground and shaking out his coat a bit. It didn't do much, sand stuck to his belly, it would most likely become matted in there later like some sand in his mane. He could use a serious grooming. As he stood his bones noticeably shifted under his skin. He let out a sigh before nodding toward her. "Follow me." He said simply as he started to walk in a direction that he wandered in before.

He hated moving some times. He was hating this lioness for asking him to get out of his comfortable spot and he was hating himself for going along with it too! Now that he was moving he didn't want to turn around and be all 'oh I don't want to go now,' not because it would be mean but because it would be waste of his energy.

Keena smiled when he agreed to help her look. She’d thought that might work, though she’d not really tried it before. Making someone admit that they needed help often proved impossible, asking someone to do something for their own sake sometimes worked. But it hadn’t quite felt right with what he’d said about being as well as he cared to be. And while she did feel slightly guilty for sort-of tricking him as she was, she hoped it would really work out well for him.

It was hard to keep the worry from showing on her features at the way his bones stuck out through his soaked and matted fur. The poor guy. She had to help him, she had to. Even if he didn’t want to admit it, something was clearly very wrong. Maybe she could convince him to share a few meals with her, get a little more built up around those bones. That he was larger than she was even without all the usual layers beneath his skin should have been impressive, but really, she was just worried. Maybe he’d even let her help groom out some of the tangles in his fur, it couldn’t be comfortable the way it was. Sand matted in, snarls and tangles everywhere. Poor thing.

“Thank you,” the lioness said, her voice warm as she followed him through the increasing downpour. Getting out of the rain would probably be good for the both of them really. She had, of course, no idea that he hated her right now, otherwise he would probably have had her in tears begging for forgiveness. As it was, she was just happy her idea had worked to help him look after himself some. Inadvertently of course.

She’d never thought of herself as sneaky before now.

Yiska looked up at the sky for a moment, taking in the fact that it was pouring. He shrugged it off as he walked, he didn't care if the rain was pouring down on his coat matting it more. He yawned slightly before glancing back at her. "Keep up." He said simply looking around, he was trying to figure out which way it was. He lifted his head and started to walk in that direction. He was hoping the quicker he showed this lioness the way the good the sooner he could leave and go some where else. Hopefully that time some where else where no one would bother him. he didn't understand why others would wander up to him when he didn't look that friendly, or for that matter was in horrible shape.

He let out a sigh, rolling his eyes as he did. He twitched his tail getting some flies off of him before trotting a little faster he had to admit he didn't want to make the lioness soaked just because he didn't care about himself. He grunted in response to her thank you, lifting his head once more to see if he was getting closer.

He slowed down at he reached the entrance of the den. "Here you are." He said as he looked back at her, standing on the outside of the den, using his paw to motion her in. "This place is safe." He nodded at the idea before looking in it. "I saw a mother and some cubs move in here not that long ago, they're gone now but its safe." He nodded before peaking in for a moment then looking back at her. "Well hurry up."

She blinked, shaking water from her head as he told her to keep up, trotting forward to walk nearer to his side. But she didn’t know where they were going, so she fell into step to keep pace by his shoulder. Where his shoulderblades jutted out every time he took a step. When was the last time he’d had any manner of food at all, much less a good meal? Well, she was a decent huntress. She could change that, if she could find a way to make him let her. There was something about him that made her wonder if he wanted her to go away. But… but if he did want her gone, surely he would have said so, right?

As he began to move faster Keena picked up her pace, somewhat surprised somehow that he still moved as he did when he looked only a day or so away from becoming vulture food. Not that he, big as he was, would make much of a meal for anything… Keena shook her head violently, suddenly guilty for such a horrible thought. She could help him, catch him something to eat. Help to groom some of the tangles out of his fur so that it felt nice against his skin again… but as much as she was wavering about whether or not he wanted her to stay, she just… she couldn’t leave him alone. Not when he seemed to need someone like this…

“It looks wonderful,” she purred, giving herself a good shake to help shed some of the downpour that had soaked against her skin. But that he would motion her to go in… he wasn’t going to leave was he? He was supposed to get warm and dry too, he might get sick out here in the cold and wet looking like a starving creature… “Lots of room for both of us,” the lioness added, taking a few steps inside as he seemed to expect her to before turning and looking over her shoulder at him. He was going to come too, right? He wasn’t going to go back to lay down out there all alone in the pouring rain… "Don't you think?" she added, a hopeful note in her voice. It had been pretty lonely, she wouldn't be lying if she said she'd like his company. If he tried to leave, then she would ask him to stay. She felt bad asking anything of anyone, but... but this was a special case... kind of. She was asking for his sake more than her own... it wouldn't upset him, would it?

PostPosted: Fri Feb 26, 2010 9:10 pm

Yiska wasn't even sure when was the last time that he ate himself. At all. He has a feeling that not too long ago he had a meal, but he knew that it wasn't yesterday he had a meal or... for that matter he knew in the last week he hadn't had anything to eat. But then again he had no no clue when he wanted to eat. He knew that he was going to have to eat some time soon to stay alive, but then again he wasn't that sure if he wanted to live to the next day or not. He really wasn't that sure.

He looked at her as she walked in, be wanted to make sure that she was comfortable with where she was. He really was curious into what she thought because if she was happy then he could leave and go on with what ever he was doing before the female ran into him. He still really didn't understand wht others had to talk to him and bother him and he could lay back down by himself and be happy well contempt anyway.

"I'm glad you like it." He said simply with a nod before the lioness spoke again. Arrrggg! No! He was oing to have to spend time with her. He let out a sight and looked at the lioness and gave her a small smile, she moved a little closer to the lioness and grunted as he laid across to her and nodded. "Well I guess it is." He let out a small chuckle trying not to make him see to sarcastic however not too happy to be there, to tell the truth he didn't have the heart to make her feel bad.

His smile was sweet.

Keena nodded brightly, her own smile fixed warmly across her features as he apparently consented to stay in the den with her. Out of the cold and the wet, someplace dry. So maybe he wouldn’t get sick. Hopefully. Poor guy must really feel it, with his fur all matted and mussed like that, couldn’t be doing too much to keep him warm. Couldn’t be comfortable either. She had to do something to help, she had to! Otherwise…otherwise she just wouldn’t feel right about moving on like she usually did.

Besides, it wasn’t as though she were in a rush to get anywhere. Spending time with someone who wanted the company was well worth her time, no matter how much of it she might spend. Helping people…that was all that mattered really. Making new friends, seeing new places…and helping people who needed it or wanted it. What more could she ask for? Sure it sometimes felt a tinesy bit lonely, but she was alright after all. It was worth it, to be able to meet the people she got to meet.

“I might go for a bit of hunting once the rain stops,” she said after a few moments, wondering if she would be pushing it if she tried to make sure he had a meal too. And she did so want to help do something about the tangles in his fur…it looked like it would be so lovely all neat and groomed out. She began cleaning the mud off of one of her paws, keeping an ear on him as she did so. When both paws sported pale creamy toes again, she looked up at him with that smile still on her features. “I could get some of the mud off for you,” the lioness offered brightly, shifting as though she intended to rise to her feet and come over to him right then. She didn’t want to be pushy though, what if she made him leave?

Yiska looked at the female and smiled slightly it was a false smile but he wasn't going to scare her away or make her feel bad for what she was doing, He didn't stand for making someone feel bad for helping him even if he really didn't want help he wasn't going to scare it away, that wasn't right. He flicked his hair out of his eyes before nodding at the female. "If you really want to" He shrugged at the idea, he wasn't really in the mood to have the other touching him but if he really wanted to he wasn't going to refuse it.

"You don't have to hunt for me I can hunt myself." She chuckled simply before shaking his head toward her and then sighing slightly.

Hmm. He would be much more comfortable clean, but...well. He didn't seem that enthusiastic about it. Maybe she shouldn't? Only...only he hadn't said no...how should she back off? Maybe change the subject? But...to what? Oh, this was... hm. She had to think of something, she wanted to help a little, not annoy him to death.

"Oh, I'm sure you can hunt for yourself," Keena chuckled, "But it's easier with two, and besides, there's no way I could eat a whole gazelle or zebra by myself. It's more fun to share, don't you think?" There, subject changed. That wasn't so hard after all.
