Far from home, Matone had no idea where he was heading or even exactly where he was. He was relying entirely on the idea that if he turned around, he would be able to navigate his way back to the swamps. But that wasn't possible until he had himself a new name and so far he had no clue where to start or how wandering around was supposed to be helping him figure it out. At first, he was going to just walk through the rain but when it became evident it wasn't going to stop (and how much heavier rain made his head now that he had a full mane) he changed directions and headed somewhere that had more hopeful signs of shelter. This wouldn't be a bad time to stop, he reasoned. He could keep going when the rain stopped.

The rain was not a bother to the god, who had found that it suited him plenty to sit out in the weather, his wings spread out to allow the droplets to stream across them, cleaning what seemed to be a great deal of mud he had traversed through to get to the rocky point he had taken up now, the outstretched appendages from his back serving as a shelter to some unfortunate little animals who had been evacuated from their flooding burrows.

Fortunately, his wings, which matched his massive frame, were large enough to shelter them from the rain, and possibly some larger creature if they had felt compelled to take it up. Or if they had been brave enough, given how imposing he looked from a distance.

However, Dormin would not have considered himself a threat to anybody who would have been out in the rain that day. Or perhaps it was some sort of internal attraction to one who perhaps would not have mind his guidance towards some ultimate goal that had made him so open to the possibility of company.

It even seemed for a moment that even his eyes, which almost seemed to burn with some sort of a hidden passion, stared off at some unseen destination.... or perhaps it was just a trick of the light... what little light there actually was at that time.

Matone paused when he hit a particularly muddy patch in his path, squishing his feet on the mud and thinking of home for a moment before looking back up and around. The only obvious spot that might offer some shelter were some rocks visible in the distance, and from so far he didn't realize just how strange one of the shapes near the top was. He sighed, glancing down thoughtfully once more before heading towards the rocks. He didn't get a chance to miss the mud for soon he was walking through more. It wasn't so comforting when you had to work much harder to get through it. Grumbling and looking downward most of his walk towards the rocks, he didn't see the god until he was much closer.

He came to a very sudden stop when he looked up, squinting at first but then looking.. confused. What was- was it-- ?

While he wasn't completely foreboding, or trying to shove away the possibility of company in it's entirety, it was almost surprising to the god to find he'd actually received some sort of 'company' to his name. Or just his being. His name had nothing to do with his 'possessions'. If one could truly say they 'owned' company.

For some reason, it seemed like an unreasonable thought, now that he actually thought it through.

But now the blue-and-muddy lion had those burning eyes turned to look upon him, the god saying nothing, but looking on with a sort of half-fascinated curiosity at whom it was who had joined him in the pouring weather. Yes, it was an unusual scenario to meet OUTSIDE of a shelter from the rain.

However, he only looked at the blue lion for a flickering moment, before he looked away, taking special care to straighten out his wings out (quite the muscle power he had in them to keep them outstretched like that!), not even budging his body before he again looked to the stranger.

"We wouldst imagine thou willst not findst much whilst standing in the rain." he spoke, his voice, somehow, quiet yet it rumbled through everything that was near him, causing it to radiate oddly. Audible, yet strange.

"Thou wouldst do well to find dryer land. If thoust were inclined towards it, thou may standst up here where we hast made it dry."

He stared, only stared. For a good minute, at least. It was awkward but it was certainly something to see. And it wasn't anything he had expected to see. He knew about the swamp goddess, he wasn't ignorant to the existence of gods. He supposed there might be others but he hadn't give it much thought. This one was just so big and looming and had incredibly .. odd eyes.

"Uh," he started, but didn't get anything out. He looked around quickly, wondering if there was anywhere a little more obviously-safe to go and hang out through the rain but there really wasn't anything he could see in this rain. He looked back to the god, considering his options. He could be a wimp and go away-- or he could say he was being brave and go back out through the rain, but there wasn't much to face in the rain. It would be stupid to think he was a match for a giant like this if it wanted trouble but.. it would make a good story. A better one than "I saw it and then walked away."

"OK," he said finally, climbing up to join the god.

And Dormin stared back with those intense eyes (no really, a cub would probably have nightmares about them) until the male had made his decision to climb up to join the god, looking away now to again stare into the distance... as though waiting for something to appear; which, in a sense, he was. Perhaps there was something in that direction that he had an internal compass pointing towards.

Maybe he just wanted someone else to think just that.

"We are still deciding if this rain bringst direction or poses itself as an obstacle." he said quietly, water dripping from his mane and running down his stone gauntlets. If he'd been so inclined, he may have started to groom the grime out of his fur that had accumulated since the last time he'd cleaned himself up.

It was quite possible it was simply that he had moss growing on him, though.

In fact, it was only when the young lion had climbed to join him that Dormin shifted to accomodate the company (it was surprising one didn't hear him 'creaking' as he moved though), careful not to disturb any of the other creatures who were using him as an umbrella.

"Thou doest good to wait it out until then."

Matone didn't say anything until he had positioned himself out of the rain- almost uncomfortably close to the god, a potentially dangerous stranger, but it was certainly better than the rain already. The rain that only seemed to stop long enough to taunt him at this point. He sighed, and shook himself out a bit to get rid of excess water-- only too late realizing that this was putting more water on the god. But he noticed he didn't seem too worried about it.

"Thank you," he muttered finally when he was feeling more sheltered, "And I'm going to go with obstacle." He offered his opinion grouchily, glaring out at all the rain. He had reason to suspect he had gone in a circle now and since it was harder to see in the lower light and constant rain.. he wasn't positive yet. It was impeding his quest, though he had still kept on the move a bit.

"Uh- I'm Matone," he offered an introduction, glancing up at the god again. This was really weird.

Indeed, being 'wet' was not really a bad thing when one had a full coat of fur to warm themselves with (to some extent), just holding one of his wings up higher to account for the new presence taking shelter underneath it (amazing how that worked out).

"It could be. However, it could also be that it is making those it needst to stop to reflect on their destination or prevent them from harmful timing." the god said, continuing his thought, taking a deep breath before looking from the weather to check on the other small ones that were there with him.

Well, they seemed to be RELATIVELY dry in comparison.

Hard to be completely such when the rain was acting like a torrent of rage falling from the sky to destroy (or whatever it was aiming for) everything in it's path. However, it was when the lion awkwardly introduced himself that the god looked up towards him instead.

Just a long half-intense stare.

"Is that who thou is, or what thou hath been called?" the god asked, not as though to redirect the idea that he too would eventually need to introduce himself as well, but to get clarification on what sort of introduction was actually happening.

The young lion made a face at what the god he now was sitting beside said. He didn't know how to interpret it, it was like a suggestion but.. it also seemed like he was trying too hard. Maybe the rain had just made Matone grumpy. It was only because he didn't want to chance making the god angry that he didn't respond. Looking ignorant was better than looking outright moronic. He eyed the other creatures huddled with the god for a minute but looked back when he got an answer. He hesitated at the question but not because he was confused. If he hadn't been on a naming quest, he might have wondered if there was a difference.

"Just what I've been called," he said with a grouchy sigh, looking off in the distance. Then he realized he hadn't gotten an introduction back and glanced curiously over, wondering if he ought to ask or just accept whatever introduction came, even if there wasn't one.

It was simply one way for him to view things; being prevented from going somewhere where one may have been inclined to harm you (or you may have had ill timing and gotten hurt) was a sort of guidance, afterall. Or at least that was how Dormin saw it.

Then again, he was the one who was more inclined to possibly send a young cub out to it's death on a journey of some sort rather than let the poor thing actually be without direction. Hey, if they met him, that was probably meant to be... not that everything in life should have been left entirely to fate.

"Then thou should not introduce thyself as being it." Dormin answered, though not sounding as though it was 'srs bzness', but as though it was just..general knowledge. "We are called Dormin." he finally answered after that thought, however... though by 'whom' he was called this, he actually didn't go into detail about.

He looked at the blue lion for a moment, seeming pensive. "We cannot say that we have what thou are looking for in the rain, however."

"I don't know the proper name to introduce myself by yet, though," Matone argued defensively despite the calm tone it was said it, it was an annoyance of his. This was what the rain was an obstacle to. In his mind anyway, he wanted to blame the rain for preventing the completion of his quest but in reality he didn't feel any closer to figuring it out anyway. So, it was really just making him grumpy.

"Dormin," he repeated, glancing over again-- seeing that now he was being looked at, too. Torn between staring back and looking away, he couldn't help but stare back with a slight frown.

"No, because that would be too easy, wouldn't it?" he grumbled, glancing around and realizing that Dormin was being a little more conversational now and trying not to be completely rude, "So, you're a god, right? What are you doing out here?" He glanced to Dormin's wings when asking about him being a god and looked back.

Well, if it hadn't been painfully obvious he was a god, but Dormin could see how he, who could have just moved himself somewhere that was more convenient than where he was currently. Instead, he'd chosen to sit there where there was no real congregation nearby to sit in the rain.

It was a reasonable curiosity.

"We are waiting." he answered, almost seeming to wonder if he would just leave the answer at that, before taking a deep breath and continuing to answer the question in better detail; "We are waiting for one who will find his way to his place, seeking direction. They do not know they will be coming to this place yet, however. So for now, we watch over our other quest-driven youth..."

'Youth' was a sort of relative term there, as it seemed that Dormin could have been ageless. When was the last time he'd possibly been reborn? Probably far too long ago, but his body will held strong for him (and his joints didn't ache, that was a bonus).

"We are the one who guides quests."

Very suddenly, Dormin had Matone's fully attention. He was running low on motivation for his name quest because of the rain and the possibility that he had gone in an accidental loop (which had only been helped along by the rain).. and guidance wasn't really something anybody got when they were sent on a name quest. They were just expected to find something that would somehow have a name for them.

"Could you help me?" he asked, maybe a little too loudly but- you had to speak loud enough to be heard over the rain and now he had been excited by the idea of someone who specifically guides quests, "Er- I'm from the swamps, I'm on my name quest. We leave when we're adolescent and can't come back until you find your real name and so far.. I've been lost."

Matone did not like making it sound like he couldn't handle it but he felt almost like he needed to sound just pathetic enough to get help, even if it was just pity. It wasn't cheating, nobody said how you had to- or had to not- get your name.

(FYI, I don't know what matters but.. Matone is almost done his quest, he just doesn't know it xD And it's all about the rain, however annoyed he is with it.)

Dormin didn't seem surprised when the boy opened his mouth and suddenly spilled out an array of information which... Dormin both found useful in finding in the young male, but also, to an extent, had already been able to tell; rather, just the fact that Matone had been on a quest to find 'his' name (not a name that was labelled for him) was enough to have told him to stay where he was when the rain had come.

Though it had probably been partially an extent of laziness that had planted that coincidence right there as well.

"We hath seen many on their name-quests. We have helped them, as we shalt help thou." Dormin answered, not exactly seeming sure as to what exactly it was he was going to do in giving the youth guidance. It was only then that the god again looked from Matone to peer back out into the rain.

Drip, Drop, Drip, Drop...

It was almost strange how the rain washed into his thoughts now that he had been given request to help in directing a search.

"Perhaps this rain doest indeed bringst direction. It hast left us here for thou to find. It may prove further to givest thou some patience and clarity to thinkst on what thou may already know at this time. Thy ritual is almost over."

....
.....
Yeah, thanks for that, Nostradamus.

Matone looked hopefully at the god, wanting an easy answer, something that would make his trip simpler, quicker. He nodded along as Dormin explained he had seen many on name quests and helped them. He was smiling as Dormin considered the advice he was going to give.. but frown when it turned out to be very ambiguous, vague.

"That's it?" he asked, not sounding very pleased. Whatever patience and clarity might come to him because of the rain, it wasn't happening yet.
