I love the clarinet.

really now...? do you know the entire range that it's capable of, and can you play that entire range? can you accurately play all 12 major scales fluently and without looking at a sheet of paper? can you play all of those scales in every octave available, and does it sound good in every octave? can you accurately play any dynamic in any given octave?

Just a question, but it is it really necessary to be good at something to love it?

my questions had nothing to do with how "good" he is. but rather, they were meant to discern how well he KNOWS his instrument. he could have said "i love learning how to play the clarinet." and none of my questions would be relevant. but, he said that he loves the clarinet.

is it not logical to assume that if you love something, you know it very, very, very well? you can't love a person without knowing them, so it should be the same with an instrument, right?

"last three high notes" being....? i hope you don't mean anything like C, D, E...or even E, F, G.

I haven't played the thing in like 2yrs but I have trouble with the high G in once in a while it always squeaks, but all the low notes like A,G,E,D,C, etc. I can play all those, It is such a beautiful instrument.

Well to contradict and play goodie two shoes, I must say I enjoy Learning and preforming on the clarinet. One is NEVER done learning an instrument, theres always advances being made as well as new methods.
Well, First off, love for something has nothing to do with proficiency. Thats just absurd. ...and thats it... D:

like i said, i don't want to know that you're "proficient" at the clarinet. but if you say "i love the clarinet", you better know the clarinet very very well.

OP...if you haven't played it in 2 years...how can you say "i love the clarinet"?

Poor choice of words, boo-hoo. Are you really trying to argue over his "love" for an instrument?

I'm not saying that I can play the highest notes, or even name them right off the bat, but I too love the clarinet. You don't have to know everything about something to love it, you can just love playing it, and love learning about it.

there is a difference between loving something and "loving to learn about it". like i've said, i'd be perfectly fine if the OP said "i love learning about the clarinet", but he didn't. his statement implies that he knows a great deal about the instrument. his later statements suggest that he knows very little about it.(and judging from the fact that he hasn't played for 2 years, that he doesn't care much about learning the instrument)
