Anjafey was draped across the branch of a tree on the outskirts of Lunarie...sulking. Maybe she didn't want to admit it, but that was true. She no longer belonged on the tribe, but oculdn't bring herself to ask to be allwoed to leave. Anj didn't want to leave, but she had lost her only ally with Kazuki. Ari would never trust her again, not after her countless mess ups.

So maybe she was meant to be alone, but that would be less than pleasant. The vixen was miserable out here by herself, surely this wasn't what she was meant to have. And yet she also screwed up in a tribe, so she apparently wasn't meant to be social either.

Anj was giving herself a headache. Things would one day make sense again, she hoped.

Bored after however many days on her own, Anj looked around, trying to spot a familiar , friendly face.

It was all just too much for him. Nato just couldn't stay in the caves any longer, he needed fresh air. Part of his family leaves him, then part of his family starts a new family? The dark male wasn't sure if he should be happy, hurt, angry, or nuetral. It seemed like Mitora had moved on so quickly, that she had just forgotten about the rest of her family. Nato blamed himself for not paying more attention to her. This was not how life was supposed to be turning out for him, for his family. He had not planned on this in the slightest.

Feeling as if his family had forgotten him, Nato wandered to the edge of the tribe lands. He felt so childish for sulking because his family had moved on, that no one seemed to notice him. It shouldn't be bothering him like he was allowing it to.

Nato was too lost in thought to notice that he had reached the edge of the tribe lands and that he was subconsciously following the familiar scent of his childhood friend until he happened to look up and spot her in a nearby tree.

So, he wasn't the only one being haunted by loneliness.

"Anja, what are you doing way out here?" He asked, trying to make it sound like he was just taking a stroll around the land and not trying to get away.

Anja looked down when she hesrd Nato's familiar voice, smiling faintly at the forced tone in his voice. Even though they hadn't spent much time together as adults, Anja could remember the serious black kit and his way of hiding things. "I have nowhere else to be," she replied simply. "I'm afraid my name isn't quite so popular in the tribe these days." Even foxes who were new to the tribe knew her reputtion as 'unstable' and 'violent' and whatever else Ari liked to call her.

"What's got you out in my neck of the woods?" she chuckled, trying not to bring his mood down anymore than it was. "I haven't seen anyone else out here for awhile, it's hard to find if you're looking." She herself had only found it after catching dinner; it'd felt better to stay out here than go back.

Of course, Anjafey did know what was bothering Nato, and she felt for him. He'd lost even more than she had, because at least she'd never had children. The vixen jumped nimbly off the tree branch and landed next to him, shaking stray leaves out of her fur.

Who's name was popular in the tribes these days? With almost half their tribe missing, Kazuki and Ari's kids gone, Ari himself wasn't to popular a guy. It seemed like almost everyone in the tribe had suffered a loss or had done something wrong recently.

Nato let out a sigh as the blue and purple vixen landed next to him. "It's just not the same." He told his childhood friend as he sat down. He knew she would know he was talking about the tribe and the loneliness that lingered there now that his mate was gone. He wasn't sure, however, if the vixen knew his daughter was having kits. He had only found out a little while ago and he wasn't sure if he was the first to know, or the last. Mitora had a way of hiding things from him.

"Maybe you could do something to clean up your reputation?" Nato said, switching the subject back to Anjafey. The black male never knew exactly what it was Anja had done but he knew that Ari had deemed her unstable. Yet, she was still part of their tribe and that meant that she should be given another chance to prove herself worthy. The fact that she was still here when so many others weren't gave Nato a reason to trust her. Even if she had some something terribly wrong, she was still here.

"No, it's not," Anjafey agreed, laying down at her friend's side. "But I suppose nothing stays the same forever, does it? Not even a tribe can withstand everything unchanged." She knew that many had left, including Kazuki.

"I would if I could, Nato," she said with a shrug. "But it's not that simple. Ari...well, you know how he is sometimes. He does not trust me, and so long a she doesn't, I can't re-earn my place. The situation with Ollure didn't help matters." Anja wrinkled her nose at the thought. It had been foolish to leave Rendo for another vixen. Impulsive, even.

Anyways. "Maybe I can some day," she added eventually. "But not until the tribe has had time to recollect. I doubt Ari feels liek delaing with me right now." Anja looked sideways at him, concerned. "What has you troubled, Nato? You look...lost. "

Nato rolled his eyes. He knew all to well how their elder got. Ari often had a one track mind and once it was set on something, it was hard to change it. Nato briefly wondered what Anja could have done to betray Ari's trust so badly. Oh well, it didn't matter. He looked at his childhood friend as she spoke. She seemed so lonely and hurt.

He was trying to think up something supporting to say to her to rekindle some hope within her when she asked what was troubling him.

"Mitora is pregnant." He said bluntly with a heavy sigh. "Amira and Anaru aren't coming back and Mitora has picked a mate and is going to have kits." Nato looked down at the snow. He knew he should be happy for his daughter, and he was in a way, but it was just too soon for him. "I'm just not prepared to lose her to her new family." He looked up at Anjafey looking hopeless and more lost than ever. "She's all of the family I have left and its almost like we're not family anymore. I just don't know what to do Anj."

"She'll always be your family, Nato," Anja reminded him gently. "It says something that Amira took the rest of your family away, but Mitora's stayed with us. That wasn't for nothing." She smiled reassuringly and padded to his side, laying down by his feet after a moment's thought.

After a moment's consideration she rolled onto her back to look at him, her blue underbelly showing. "You just can't push her away. I'm not saying you need to like her mate, but being upset with her we'll push her away. And besides, she's giving birth to your grandchildren. They'll be your family too, hm?" She nodded at the last bit; they would be his blood family, and so Nato would really be alone.

"I am sorry about Amira, you know that of course, but dwelling won't make her come back. Neither of us knows why she left, I suppose. But you need to move on like Mitora has. You deserve to be happy, Nato. You're too good of a fox not to be."

But what was she doing offering this kind of advice? Her own life was in shambles, and it was her fault. She needed to find some way to move past it....

Not focusing on the past would be helpful. After all, she had her childhood and best friend with her still, right? Nato had always been there when she needed him, and she was still a part of Lunarie. Things would be better if she stuck by the Moon Fox and the ones that hadn't left her. They'd see her through.

She smiled to herself, and her old vivacious side showed through again, lighting up her features. She would be okay, whether it gave Ari ulcers or not.

Nato smiled in spite of himself. Too good of a fox not to be? He had never thought of himself that way. Was there such a thing as a fox who wasn't good enough to be happy?

"All of the foxes in our tribe deserve to be happy." Nato said with a gentle but serious look to Anjafey. "Finding that happiness is just harder for some than others, I guess. It was easier for Mitora to find hers because she is still young." He shifted and raised his gaze to the moon. "Hopefully, with a little more time, I can move on as well and find my happiness." But Anja did have some good points on him finding himself again. Mitora had stayed when the rest of his family left. And her children would be his part of his family. As long has he had Mitora and his tribe, he would always have family.

"You know," He said, turning his gaze back to the blue and purple vixen and offering her a smiling. "I had forgotten how good you were at making others feel better." And he nearly had. It had been a long time since he had spoken to her and seen just a hint of the young, spirited vixen she once was. Maybe he too could capture some of his youthfulness and bring some life back into his relationships.

"Hopefully you won't lose that talent by the time my grandkits arrive. If they're anything like their father, from what I've seen, you're going to have your paws full." Of course, she could handle them though. Even if they did turn out like Vitali... Or like his own daughter sneaking around before dark. Hopefully she could handle them, he knew he certainly couldn't. Of course, Nato had nothing against Thea being their career, he just didn't know her as well, and she seemed... overly quite? Well, he just trusted Anja more, whether Ari did or not.

Young. What was that like? Anja chuckled to herself and rolled back up, sitting next to her friend and looking at the moon as well. "Neither of us is ever really alone, Nato. We will always have the moon. So long as we remember that, we'll be just fine." She would need to remember that herself. Too much lately she'd focuse don herself and her loneliness. She needed to see more of the broad picture, which included the fox who was...well, he was probably her best friend now.

She looked back at her friend as he spoke to her again, then smiled faintly at the compliment. "I haven't been as good at it lately, but thank you. Hopefully I'll regain my talent from here. You're good at it to, you know. This is the happiest I've been since we were young like Mitora."

Grandkits. What a strange concept. "Oh, I'm sure they'll be well-behaved. They'll be part of Lunarie, the night will keep them soothed."

It was good to hear that he could cheer someone up, even though his own life seemed rather dim recently. Nato knew he didn't really have the soft skills needed to make foxes feel better, which is why he cared for his tribe with herbs rather than words. After Amira left, he felt as if his words only caused pain and frustration for his family. But here he was, apparently cheering Anja.

Nato looked at the vixen next to him and tried to remember the last time he had actually seen her smile. His mind wandered its way back to when the tribe was young and just getting on its feet. Anja smiled all the time back then. And laughed. It seemed so long ago. Surely there had to be a way to push through these hard times and find a way to smile and laugh again. There had to be something he could do to bring life back into himself, Anja, and the rest of his tribe.

With a sigh, the dark male shook himself from the daze he had fallen into.
"Let us hope so. For some, the night is not always soothing." He glanced at her with a worried look. No matter how much he fought it, the thought of becoming a grandfather unsettled him.

Anja shrugged easily. "Even if they are wild, rambunctious little things, I have faith Mitora can keep them in line. She might be giving you grandkits young, but she has a good head on her shoulders." The purple and blue vixen was sidestepping the notion that she would be the carer for the kits; although she could do the job, it was always stressful trying to do it with Ari around.

After a quiet moment, she added: "She must have gotten that quality from you." She smiled and nosed him gently. "I always thought you were the smartest in the tribe, you know."

Nato pondered Ajna's words. Mitora did have a good head on her shoulders. She may have been young, but thinking about it now, Amira hadn't been too much older than Mitora when she had her and Anaru. Having Mitora was one of the best things that had ever happened in his life. The longer he thought about it, the more he came to realize that maybe having grand kits wouldn't be so bad.

Anja's gentle nosing pulled Nato from his thoughts. A smile spread across his maw at the vixens compliment. "Oh come now Anja. You've known me long enough to know better than that. Don't tell me that my serious persona had you fooled into thinking I was someone else." Nato had never been one for taking complements and he was even worse at giving them. He tried to think of a compliment to give to Anja but couldn't think of a way to say any without being socially awkward.

Anja laughed and shook her head. "Now Nato, you're doing yourself a disservice. You were always the most level-headed one around, and a good shaman to boot. Tell me how that's anything but smart." She offered him a winning smile, not minding that he hadn't repaid her with a compliment.

More comfortable with Nato than she'd been with...well, anyone, if she really thought about it, Anj flopped over across his back. "However, I did always know there was something fun hiding behind that oh-so-serious persona you mentioned," she teased.
PostPosted: Mon Aug 23, 2010 12:05 pm

It was good to hear someone else thought of him as a good shaman. But Nato still felt awkward at the compliment and felt like he had to dismiss it somehow.

"Keeping a level-head comes with my trade. And being good at one's trade is very different from being smart. Put me in a position where I would need to capture pray, care for new born kits, or deal with a family crisis and you will see that my smarts only apply to my trade." It was true Nato thought of himself only useful and wise as a Shaman and nothing more. After losing his mate and son and watching his tribe slowly fall into a depressive slump, Nato felt like his abilities as a shaman were the only thing he could offer.

Although he normally would have objected to another fox laying across his back, Nato actually enjoyed the feeling of his childhood friend there. Being so close to Anja made him relax and somewhat forget the troubles he was facing with his daughter. At Anja's teasing, Nato cocked his brow in mock confusion and looked back at her. "Fun? I am unfamiliar with this word. Perhaps you should enlighten me."

Anja eyerolled goodnaturedly at her friend's attempts to put himself down. She'd learned a long time ago not to argue about compliments though and just let it go. "You're silly," she chuckled, patting his head with her paw.

He was talking again, and Anja actually laughed. "Hmm. I've heard lots about this fabled fun word, but then I'm allllsoo not sure I remember how it works. Perhaps we can learn together what it means."

She stretched languidly and then got off Nato. "I don't think we'll find the meaning just sitting around here, though." She paused, and then grinned at Nato. "I think it must be this way." The vixen tore off in another direction, knowing Nato would have to chase her down.
