Chausiku got up as silently as she could, extracting herself from the puddle of sleeping puppies. She glanced back over her shoulder, paused with an expression half way between annoyance and serenity. They were her pups. Her children. She had cursed that Ifu'hamiji at first... only to gradually, and grudgingly, not feel so much animosity towards him.
She trotted out a little distance away from the little yappers, relieved to have a few moments of peace at least before they all woke up. Once one woke... the rest would as well. They were young still... had it been a week? Ifu had wandered somewhere, not that it mattered too much to her. Who cares if he saw the pups he fathered... who cared if they were all wonderful, that just meant they were all her's.
Chau sat with her back to her children, enjoying the sunset and waiting for the night to fall. Today they were old enough to start learning things. Things like hunting, like how to attack and bite and claw and fight to defend themselves and their kill.

Njeve-Umhlabathi was the first to awake, it seemed. She was a rather light sleeper, but it didn't plague her energy level any. Ears perking up, Njeve's body eventually followed, she was not yet as quiet in her stepping as her mother was, but would eventually learn quickly enough.
She approached her mother and nudged her head into her leg to let her know she was present and took a seat beside her with a yawn. She wasn't overbearingly close to Chausiku, but close enough, maybe a pup sized buttocks distance between the two of them.
"I'm hungry." She said, her stomach making the obvious hunger noises. She hoped her siblings awoken quickly. She did not want to wait long for food.

In the corner, Ekene was sleeping peacefully. He paws twitched as she dozed before suddenly her ears perked. Food? The young hyena pup was on her feet in seconds, eyes opening. Asleep or not, there were few things that could keep her away if there was food involved. She glanced around the cave before smirking mischiveously and running toward her sister, Njeve. With a few mostly quiet steps, she pouced the other hyena, giggling madly. "Hi Nee-Nee!" The pup greeted, not even glancing toward their mother. "Are we gonna eat soon?"

-It was a new day. A new day full of exciting new things to see and do. But then, weren't most new days that way? As long as you tried hard enough to look?
Ifu had departed earlier that morning, settled himself at a watering hole that was slowly becoming familar, drinking and thinking. How often had he fled anytime it seemed that a place was becoming as familar as this? This was different however, though the landscape was familar.. there was something else totally alien keeping him stayed put. A certain something that tugged his eyes and mind to watch, and inspect, and think about.
Pups, his own pups. Why he'd never had any before he wasn't certain.. he was certainly old enough years ago. Tiny wriggling little bodies.. each with personalities and lives that appeared out of completely nothing. What exactly made it so that made one pup developed such a sweet and quiet temperament whereas another was rambunctious and rowdy.. right out of the womb. It was a mystery. Hell.. GIRLS were a mystery. That thought had dragged a long smirk to his maw as he made his way back towards the familar scent of his new hoard of mysterious females.
When he came into sight, a small black hare dangled from his mouth, certainly not enough for everyone to be full, but enough to fight the pangs of hunger. His pace quickened when he noticed a few figures already stirring in the distance.-

She could feel the room get colder as her sisters left her side, but she didn’t quite care as much. It was nice to be able to breathe and sprawl out upon the floors. Her ears twitching from side to side listening in on the families conversation. Yeah, food would be nice, but there ain’t any there right now. Grinding her molars together she opened her eyes to stare at her mother and sisters.
Per usual Ekene was being a bloody moron, pouncing on Njeve and asking her if food would be coming soon. As if she bloody knew! Mum would know that more than Njeve would, Modu grinded her molars again in agitation before scanning the room some more. No sign of dad again.
A line formed over her mouth, he always seemed to disappear on them, sometimes to get things other times to just disappear. It made her feel rejected in a way; then again he did tell stories of always roaming the lands. Maybe he wanted to do that again? Again she grinded her molars together before finally sitting up suddenly, grabbing her nearest stick and grinding her teeth into before finally, hearing a good healthy SNAP.
Satisfied with the broken stick, Modu turned her attention to her siblings. “Ekene you idiot, Njeve ain’t gonna know about that!” A high pitched voice hissed as a little white body rushed towards the rest of the group, closest to their mother. “Why don’tCHA ask mum. HUUUUH?” She made a little snap at Ekene before grinning.

Ears laid back a little in annoyance as one by one the little gnawers woke up. So much for a quiet moment... she turned to look down at her tiny offspring. A strange warmth washed over her heart and she grit her teeth to prevent the smile from coming to her face.
"Rrr... quiet!" She half contradicted herself as she shouted the word. "Learn to be more quiet. It's only on stealthy paws and shut mouths do you get full bellies. Making too much noise means your prey hears you."
And then of course Modu came out snapping and spitting, ready for a brawl. Chau gave a faint chuckle before leaning down to give her daughters each a little nudge of her nose and a sloppy lick. Straightening again she caught wiff of a familiar scent, finding herself relaxing a little bit as she turned to see the familiar pale form of Ifu trotting towards them with a hare in his mouth.
As he drew closer she let out a sigh, her voice a low grumble "They need to learn to hunt sometime..." Never mind the fact that they were only really a few weeks new to the world. ...Maybe she could put off teaching them to hunt for a little longer.

((Figured it'd be okay to jump post order since noone has noticed him since mom yet, and to help keep this on the front page :3))
-He continued to trot forward, grinning minutely as the fiesty female found a way to turn his gift of food into some greatly displeasing thing. He didn't mind really, perhaps eventually it might grate on him, but now..
He settled the meat to the ground a few steps ahead of the whole group, tail flicking back and forth mildly as his smile finally turned into soft nonchalant words.- "We should teach them then. But it'll do us no good to try when they're hungry. They'll tire far too quickly"
-His eyes left Chau, dipping down to the young ones, with a look that was.. almost playful, at the very least lacking in seriousness.- "Can't have you little bits chasing away all our prey with loud grumbly stomachs now can we?"

Njeve fell forward from Ekene's antics, her dark coat gathering a nice coat of dusty earth as the outcome. Njeve was not phased much by Ekene's antics, and sometimes enjoyed them since she still was a pup and like all pups, liked the idea of play every once and awhile.
Njeve turned her head back to Modu as their mother finished chided them and whispered, "Dad went for food." Which Njeve was right about, for when she turned back she could see him approaching and commenting on their mother's earlier comment about them needing to learn to hunt.
Njeve felt a tad happier to have both parents around than just one. It felt right to her, but than again apparently the things that felt right were not the way things worked out, so she cherished any family moments there were. She wiggled out from beneath Ekene and took a few steps towards their father, planting her but on the ground once more and patiently waited for her meal.
"What is it?" She asked, regarding the hare in his mouth as he got closer.

"Shut it, Modu! No body asked you." Ekene hissed, her ears flattening backwards. The pup glared moodily at her sister before she was suddenly distracted by another wild dog's entrance. Her scowl was replaced by a wide grin and her eyes lit up with joy. "Daddy!" She didn't care what he'd brought back to eat, she was just glad to see him. The young hyena rushed past Njeve, likely knocking her over again, and plowed into her father's foreleg. She nuzzled at the larger canine, grinning up at them. "Hi Daddy!" Ekene exclaimed before snickering at his words. "No! Can't have that! We'd never catch anything!" The pup loved when her father was around.
