Despite the frequent winds passing by her, Bryna left her eyes fully open, blinking only occasionally when moisture refused to return to her eyes without the help. She had left Triton in their guest den and gone to find a place that she could call her own personal space for a time. That was something they had rarely had from each other: space. It wasn't a bad thing, but Bryna worked through her deep thoughts best when it was silent, and after only a few days her mind was already clogged with questions and plans that she wanted to work through. Alone. Before she talked to Triton about them, she wanted to be sure she knew how she felt as well.
Triton seemed to be settling in well with their gracious hosts. It was one of the reasons Bryna had felt safe leaving his side for a time. She knew she got protective of him sometimes, even when she knew he could take care of himself. He was her friend, her one solid ally. That made him something as close as family, as close as pack.
She didn't want to concern him unnecessarily if he thought she meant they should leave. That wasn't the conclusion she was working herself up to. She had obligations, but... even without being the best hunter Bryna understood that trails only lasted so long. And it had been several seasons-- more than-- since Bryna had been searching any discernible path her lost packmates may have taken. There was no reason to continue actively looking, and, if she were honest with herself-- which she always was-- Bryna knew she hadn't been looking for them in her heart for a long time now. It had become a routine to ask, a casual necessity, but she never really expected an affirmative from the pack members she asked.
It bothered her, knowing she didn't care as she once had. Somewhere she had accepted her new semi-pack status with Triton, the two of them a small wandering pack of their own, and subconsciously acknowledged that with her pack long since dead or adding their strength to other packs, the point in locating them would be... nothing. The point was lost too. She was no longer tied to the duty of being their Beta. Not that she wasn't a Beta, that was never in question, would never be in question so long as she had a tongue in her head and her right mind about her.
Duty should be permanent. It should be. Bryna's eyes, for the first time since she had settled herself on this small hill, closed for a reason other than saving her vision. She'd been cut loose. The only one she would be working for by continuing to wander would be herself. And she couldn't be sure she'd be working in her best interest.
Her pack was her best interest. Triton was her best interest. What would Triton want from this? He was objecting to their stay in Draug Faroth as little as Bryna herself. If she posed the question to him, assuming Haku agreed, would Triton agree to-- want to-- stay here?
A heavy sigh heaved Bryna's chest and shoulders as another wind carried the warmth of the sun past her muzzle. It was odd, this almost-melancholy. Bryna wasn't sure she liked it. She always knew decisively what she wanted, what needed to be done. This was helping her work through the mess her mind was in, but it certainly wasn't as efficient as it could be. Draug Faroth was still a mystery, although Haku hadn't lied when he said his pack would be welcoming.

HanGeng was very pleased with the way things were going. Haku filled him in on Triton's reply on becoming a high member of the pack. He hoped that meant both were dedicated to staying, because it was really important to have those they could trust. It was rough having wolves earlier that slacked or did not seem interested in keeping up with their duties. Haku wanted to find wolves they could really count on.
His silver paws moved down the pathway from the dens, leading towards the river. He rather enjoyed breaking through the ice and getting a fresh, cold drink. It made him quite content.. He was a little simple, but it all worked out.
When he saw the female that had a similar colouration to him, he paused and smiled softly to her. She was pretty, though he was relativly sure she was mated already. Either way, he was a gentlemen. That didn't mean he couldn't appreciate beauty. He bowed his head a little in a greeting, his maw curling into more of a smile.
"You are Bryna, yes?" He asked after a moment. These were the wolves that Haku said were staying for a while. They seemed nice, he had no problem with having new people to speak to. "It is very nice to meet you. I am the Beta Male here, HanGeng."

A wolf ghosted up to the riverside and Bryna turned her head to watch, at least briefly distracted. His pelt was silver like hers, though dark silver to her bright, and considering where her thoughts had been her chest constricted with longing for her family again. All had been mostly silvers or grays in her immediate family, and if she believed in such things Bryna might have thought it an omen that this wolf appeared now. What it would be an omen towards, she wasn't sure.
She nodded when he asked her name, and smiled slightly in reply at his introduction. "A pleasure, HanGeng," Bryna agreed. "You have lovely packlands, you must be proud of your home." She fell silent, staring at him blankly when she had nothing left to say to him. When she realized her foolishness, she shook her head. "I apologize, I'm not myself at the moment. Finally sitting around for longer than a night is making me question myself." She wagged her tail slightly and stirred the frosty leaves beneath her, noting that a show of good humor might ease whatever tension her reserved greeting may have caused.

HanGeng had to smile a little when he heard the words from the female. "I do love these lands, very much.. Almost as much as our Alpha, Haku. They're quite beautiful. Plenty of hunting and warm places to sleep." He nodded his head a few times, his gaze moving to the wilderness around them.
"You have not settled recently?" His words were also light, his own silver tail wagging a bit. It was nice to have a simple converstation with someone, a bit of time off from his usual duties. "I use to wonder a lot myself, but I decided that a pack was the best place for me.. I came accross this territory and decided never to leave."
There was a grin on his maw, then, looking proud. It had been a hard choice, but he felt like it was the right one. After meeting River and spending his time around her child and grandchild, doing his duties as a Beta male.. He realized that this place was his love.

"Triton and I travel. Him to explore the world, and I to find my lost pack members. That doesn't seem to be a concern so long after I've started, though. It's become more staying with Triton and less searching for my scattered pack. They've doubtlessly found lives of their own to be happy in."
She looked back at the river and let her eyes cover the woods. And now... "Now it makes less sense for me to continue wandering."
Silence descended again as Bryna turned it over in her mind. She had simply spoken the culmination of her thoughts aloud, but it seemed more poignant that way, especially with HanGeng pointing out he had been in a similar circumstance before he found Draug Faroth. Maybe this was a pack of new beginnings for wolves like her and him.
She turned her eyes back to his, studying the odd solid black of them but not finding them cold as she had expected. That was likely because of the personality behind them. They weren't detached stones, after all. "What would Haku do if we asked to stay? Permanently, I mean, not just as long-term guests. I would have to speak to Triton, but I believe it's long past time for us to expand our pack outside just ourselves."

Ah, so she would looking for a lost pack. There were rumors that Haku spent some time doing that, before giving up. It was difficult, with how large the world seemed to be, to find others that the heart wanted to search for. He listened to her words quietly, but his ears perked up a little when he heard her last statements.
"Haku would be very pleased by your joining the pack, I can assure you." He nodded his head a few times, then, to show he was speaking the truth and really believed it. "He is very accepting of wolves of all type, but.. it is rather obvious that you and Trinton are very dedicated to your personal convictions. It would be a great pleasure as opposed to a small one of seeing a new face. Do I make sense?" He asked that of himself more than her, finding his words a bit odd.
"I have no doubt that if you wished to remain, your skills would be need to be put to use. We would ask of you to take care of certian tasks, but you especially, Bryna. It is not a secret that we are in need of a Beta female to help us through the pack and.. with my reccomendation, Haku would want that position.. to belong to you, if you were to stay."

Her ears perked up in clear surprise as she processed his offer. She had known they were a Beta short; that, unlike some packs, Haku wanted his family to have a Beta of each gender. If she had stayed, of course she would have contributed to her fullest, regardless of position, but Beta...
Her chest rattled with the increased pounding of her heart and she let her eyes stray to the black markings on HanGeng's pelt. "I understand what you mean. Those with strong talents of one kind or another are valued in packs, and I have prior experience with being a Beta. You would not need to train me for it the way you would a younger wolf."
She fell silent again, turning her options over in her mind. The longing to be a real Beta again pushed at her, but she pushed back. "I... would like that. Very much. However, I should check with Triton before I accept anything. If he wants to stay, I will gladly and immediately accept." She sat a bit straighter-- which seemed odd, since she always sat fairly straight-backed-- and smiled. "Thank you, HanGeng. You have given me... purpose, I guess is the right word."

HanGeng had to smile even more to the female, her heart shining throug her eyes at that moment. She would be a good Beta as long as she was dedicated to the lands as much as he and Haku were. Someday they would find an Alpha female and things would be complete.
Maybe it could even be Macha..
He shook those thoughts from his chest and bowed in a respectful way to the female. "I hope that you will find your purpose is fufulling. This pack is growing and there will be many things that will need to be done. I believe I can trust you with all things."
His head tilted slightly then, smile still shing as bright as it had from their first greeting. "Haku will be proud."

Bryna bowed slightly back, the rare smile still on her face. "I'm sure your trust won't be misplaced. The pack is still growing, but I'm up for any challenges we face."
The faint sound of a squirrel moving through the brush went in one ear and out the other. Bryna glanced towards it, but left it alone. Most days that would have been a good snack while she was traveling, but her stomach was full from Haku's generosity, and after resting at Draug Faroth for several days instead of tirelessly traveling all night had certainly rejuvenated her.
"I should find Triton, ask him what he thinks of staying." She stood and stretched out her front legs. "If we do, there will be many things I'll need to ask you and a lot of work to be done."

HanGeng was pleased by her reactions. His faith in her would not falter at all. He nodded his head a few times. "Please feel free to speak to Trinton, then. Let me know what the two of you come up with. My den is always open and I am happy to answer any and all questions that you may have about your new position."
With that, he bowed his head slightly and made his way towards his own den, hoping with a light heart that the blue and silver wolves would end up staying and helping out their pack.
He would really enjoy such a thing, after all.
