It wasn't often that Maua found herself outside the pride lands - in fact she generally avoided doing such a thing the way one avoided the plague. But sometimes you just had to do what you had to do - and today she'd found herself in just such a circumstance, scouting for new talent they'd called it. Maua thought 'stupid waste of time' was a more suiting title. But who was she to question royalty?
Letting out a long suffering sigh the lioness - clearly in a foul temper padded through the grass, rotting corpse! wasn't there any damn water around here? it was bloody damn hot and Maua twitched her tail in irritation. A trip to the nearby spring might be in order. Without any further thought on the matter Maua altered her path so that it would lead her in that direction. No one would blame her for getting a drink, and in any case - she might find some talent lingering about the water on such a hot day. Nodding her head as she justified her selfish decision Maua picked up the pace just a tad.

Usiku was lazying by the spring in the heat of the day. Her mind was still reeling over the encounter she had only days prior with that blasted male who tried to steal her kill. He was one that Usiku hoped she would never run into again. So arrogant and cocky and not respectful of ones things. Curse him! Now he was on her thoughts again. She needed something to distract her from this.
Rolling onto her belly she looked out at the spring. With no other animals around now would be the time to take a little dip to cool off. She slowly crawled into the water, stopping when it was up to her stomach. While the water was warm it was still refreshing compared to the heat of the day. Dipping her muzzle down she began to lap up some water.

Maua picked her way silently down the game trail until her steps led her to the water, which came into sight like a refreshing dream. If she had her way she'd be back home lazing about in the shade right no - letting the commoners do the work. But every once in a while even the nobles were called upon to take care of something and she could do nothing but obey such an order - as long a she wanted to stay in the kings good graces that was. The sight of the water picked up her spirits somewhat.
At least until she caught site of her companion at the waterside - some damn dirty dog was standing there fouling up the pristine water with it's mucky hide. The creatures only saving grace was the color of its hide - had she been a Lion Maua would have been bound to treat her with respect, but since she wasn't she might as well be mud as far as Maua was concerned and she furrowed her brow. What a way to ruin a good drink.
"Hey mongrel!" she called out to the dog "Get your filthy paws out of the water!" Damn didn't the beasts have any self respect, gamboling about in the drinking water - of all the uncouth things to do.

Usiku's head snapped at as she heard a voice yelling. Mongrel? What an interesting way of putting it, she thought. Her eyes fell upon the lioness who was the owner of the voice. Her white hide was untouched by dirt or dust. The way she carried herself told Usiku that she was a high ranking lion of some pack, although why would a lion like that be out here in the rogue lands?
"I am no mongrel." Usiku snapped at the lioness. "And this watering hole is open to anyone. How dare you tell me to get out of it!" This lioness most certainly didn't belong out here and telling others what to do was a big no no out here. In fact it was a good way to get yourself killed if you said it to the wrong animal. Usiku stood her ground, remaining in the water where she was. It would take a lot more than a few nasty words to force her out.

Maua's eyes narrowed as the dog not only ignored her words but dared speak back. Did she have any idea who she was talking to?!? Maua was well aware she may very well not know...but ignorance was no excuse, and not dirtying up the water supply should just be common sense to her way of thinking. She gave the dog a haughty look over "You ARE a mongrel" She drawled with a look of distaste on her face "And a I dare because I am lion and you are but a lowly beast, a walking talking waste of space in the scheme of things" she sniffed "Even your own kind seem to agree...I don't smell any Pack scents on your hide" She continued in a smug voice.
"Now...move.out.of.the.water." She said the sentence slowly, as though she was talking to someone extremely stupid and punctuated the end with a large yawn that showed off her gleaming white fangs in an obvious threat.

Usiku's maw opened up showing her fangs as the lioness continued on about her being worthless in her eyes. Usiku was far from a lowly creature, she knew of many others who deserved being called such a name but she was not one of them. "Packs are nothing more than a pain, allowing those who think too highly of themselves to boss others around." She pawed at the water, churning mud the mud that lay beneath her paws. "Oh no," She began sarcastically. "It appears that this water has been contaminated, looks like you have to go somewhere else princess."
The lionesses display of her fangs didn't impress Usiku much. "Wow, I bet you do a lot of hunting with those perfect teeth of yours." Typical pride lion she thought, clearly the high rank that does nothing for herself.

Well..wasn't this beast a haughty creature Maua thought to herself as the Dog continued to try her patience. Wretched beast needed to be taught her place in society, taught a little respect. Maua knew of only one way to teach this respect properly, a good thrashing might do the trick...obviously words hadn't had any sort of impact on the stubborn beast - so perhaps violence would. The Lioness tail twitched back in a forth in annoyance as she regarded the Dog - not only was she dirtying up the water - but she was going to make Maua exert herself on a day far to hot for such things.
Grumbling under her breath about the bother of this situation, but quite positive she couldn't just walk off from it either Maua stalked forward, lips drawn back in a hiss and tail lashing as she glared at the dog. "Last chance you big eared freak"

Usiku's left ear twitched ever so slighted as the lioness called her a freak. If the lioness expected some show of respect due to her obvious high rank then she was looking for it from the wrong beast. She was too far out of her own territory and as such her rank could hold no sway out here. There may be the odd lion that would show her respect but they would be stupid to do so.
"I'm not moving princess." She said with a snarl. "So unless you want to get you fur dirty I suggest you move on." That Usiku highly doubted would happen. Even with the water being as dirty as it was now she doubted the lioness would back out now. No, they were both in this and neither one would back down. So be it.

Well so be it then Maua thought silently as the mongrel refused to do the smart thing and run away. Stubborn beast. Stupid, stubborn beast she amended her first thought as she trekked towards the water's edge - blast it all but she was going to get wet and dirty, and all because some stupid lesser creature wouldn't show the proper respect to her better.
With one last snarl Maua launched herself off the bank and into the water towards the dog, wicked claws unsheathed and lashing out at the other in a furious strike towards the dog's chest. Maua might be a noble - but any Lioness worth her salt can fight when needed and she was no exception. And she would teach this dog a lesson today if it was the only thing she managed to get done today. Maua was so intent on the dog that she barely noticed the muddy water that splashed up to stain her previously pristine coat. She hated getting dirty but she could deal with it when it was necessary.

Usiku watched the lioness moved towards the edge of the water. One thing she thought she had over the lioness was the ability to read others movements. It was what had allowed her to survive for so long on her own out here. So when the lioness jumped toward her with the claws moving at her chest, Usiku leaned back on her haunches allowing the lioness to miss, but barely. The water slowed her down a bit so she wasn't as agile as she was on land.
Not wanting to allow the lioness any time to recover from the miss she lashed out with both front paws. Her sharp claws aiming for the top of the lioness head. Her fangs were bared are she let out an angry growl. She did have a slight disadvantage size wise but she wouldn't let that thought interrupt her.

Maua snarled as he first trike missed, though it hadn't been by much. She had thought perhaps that making the first strike some sense would enter into the brain of the Wild Dog and she'd run off. But alas..it wasn't to be so. That's alright - Maua was just fine with the chance to teach the common beast a bit of a lesson, maybe next time she wouldn't be so quick to talk back to a lion.
As the Wild dog lashed out for the top of her head Maua flattened her ears and hunkered down slightly, she let them rake through her fur leaving a few shallow furrows behind, the dogs claws weren't nice but they had nothing on her own razor sharp edges thankfully - or her injuries would be far more severe. She could have dodged the attack of course but that wouldn't have given her the opportunity she had now, as the dogs claws scored the top of her head Maua suddenly leapt up and towards the dog, her goal was to send the mongral over backwards into the water. Then she would pounce and really do some damage. It was a good plan Maua thought - as the dog was sure to be off balence from her own strike.

As her claws met with their target Usiku let out a long growl that she often used when a hunt was going successful. Stupid lioness had left herself open to attack by being so brash and....That thought was interrupted when the lioness did a sudden leap towards Usiku. The momentum knocked her onto her back. Dirty water sprayed up into her face, blinding her for a few seconds and leaving her coughing from the sudden impact.
"You fight like a kitten." Usiku sputtered out as she tried to regain her feet, still half blind from the water in her eyes. Her head turned as she stood looking at the direction of the lioness. Well this may not go quite as well as she thought it would but Usiku at least managed to get the perfect lioness nice and dirty for her trip home.

"If I fight like a kitten, then you are being beaten by one and I think I might keep that fact to myself if I were you" Maua told the Dog as she rose sputtering[/color from the water. Her attack had gone perfectly and Maua wasn't going to let the other female get too much of a chance to recover. Tail lashing to and fro Maua jumped towards the wet dog - which smelled rather horrible now. Once more she lashed out at the creature with her claws, aiming to dig deep furrows into her shoulder and chest. The lioness' eyes gleamed as she fought - she wasn't typically a cruel lion ,but she, like all her kind enjoyed a good fight no and again. They were predators after all, it was in their nature.
"Perhaps this will teach you to respect those about you" She hissed at the dog, ear's flattened to her skull in her fury.

Well thanks for pointing out the obvious, Usiku thought at the lionesses comment. Yes this fight wasn't exactly panning out the way she had thought it was, but she would not back down now. With the water still in her eyes Usiku couldn't judge the lionesses moves as well as she had hoped for. She tried to get out of the way of those sharp claws but only partially succeeded. Twisting her body Usuki felt the claws dig deep into her chest. The ones aims for her shoulder also hit their mark but didn't dig nearly as deep. Usuki let out a yelp as the flesh was ripped on her body. Well this certainly was putting a damper in her day.
"I will never show you respect." She snarled, lashing out with her claws at the lioness again, splashing up water at her as she did so. The movement made her chest scream in pain as the dirty water hit her fresh wounds. Her eyes were determined to not back down but this was a fight she would not win and she knew it.

Maua let out a rumble of victory as her claws hit their marks, and the tang of blood filled the air, sure she'd been injured as well early in the fight - but not nearly as badly as the dog was being wounded. all in all Maua thought it was all going rather well. Except for the part where she was wet and dirty that was, but such things couldn't be helped sometimes, and this Maua thought to herself was worth getting a bit dirty over.
"Well that is a mistake I'm sure you will regret" She told the insolent dog trying to skitter backwards as the dog scratched at her, splashing water. Unfortunately fighting in the water wasn't Maua's strong suit , she wasn't used it and it slowed her down a little bit. The result was the dogs claws scoring her forelimbs and Maua snapped at the dogs paws, flashing large white fangs.
