Usiku padded her was through the grasses in the heat of the day as she made her way to the nearest watering hole. She had recently caught a small antelope and after getting her fill had taken a moment to hide the body before going off to quench her thirst. As she reached the edge of the pond she glanced around the horizon before lowering her head. First she washed the blood off her face and paws, those flies could be quite bothersome when one was trying to relax. Once satisfied that all the blood was cleaned off she began to lap up the water, though her eyes were attentive to the area around her. Ears swiveling about listening for the sound of any who could be approaching.

Subu had not intended to hunt on this afternoon stroll - it was too hot for that much activity and the silver and purple male wasn't hungry enough to make the effort. Of course being hungry enough didn't equate to not being hungry at all and so when his meandering path lead him across the scent of a fresh kill he took a little side trip to investigate. Imagine his surprise when he found an unattended antelope and a quick look see in the general area revealed no one around to clam it.
Well...when life decided to hand you a beak like this you certainly didn't turn your nose up at it and Sabu didn't intend to. A bright smile on his face as he pondered this great turn of fortune. Now he wouldn't have to hunt later on - Sabu proceeded to dig in with relish.

Having gotten her fill of water Usiku rose up and glanced around once more. The watering hole was quiet for this time of the day, but surely the other animals would come eventually with this heat. With a shrug she turned away from the pond and slowly made her way back to her kill. It didn't take her long to realize that someone had happened upon the antelope while she was gone. She sniffed the air as she approached, it was another wild dog.
A growl escaped her maw she she finally reached where he had hid the carcass. "What are you doing with my kill?" She snarled at him. How dare he just start eating the antelope after she did all the hard work. Scavengers always annoyed her. They were too lazy to get their own food but expected you to give up yours once you had it. That wouldn't happen today, she told herself.

Sabu jerked his head up from the kill as he heard the growl, his ears swiveling and face turning towards the animal the growl had escaped from. Ah...another wild dog, a female, And she was alone. Not a member of a pack then? Sabu didn't smell anything that resembled a pack scent on the female, well that wasn't to worrisome then, Sabu could deal with one single lone female.
"Your kill?" He asked the female lazily as he glanced about "I'm afraid I didn't see any signs of ownership when I arrived" He continued "You should have hidden it better"

"Of course it is my kill." She snapped at him as she moved closer. If he wanted it he would have to work for it. No lazy scavenger would walk away with her meal while she stood here. And whats worse the cocky b*****d had the guts to tell her she should hide it better.
"I would not need to hide things better if you lazy scavengers would learn to hunt for yourselves." She took another step forward. Now standing almost on top of the antelope staring the male down. "Now leave!" She yelled snowing her teeth at him. If he knew what was best for him then he would be smart and just leave. Usiku was not a Wild Dog that any wanted to cross. She had the attitude of an enraged bull elephant and she would not back down. Ever.

Subu arched a brow slightly as he licked his lips and considered his options. The female seemed a tad irate - and really he couldn't blame her. He knew the kill was hers he could smell her scent all over it, but life was rough when you didn't have a pack and meals sometimes hard to come by, so he wouldn't apologize for being a so called 'scavenger' either. Standing up and stretching to show the female she didn't scare him Subu eyed her for a few moments. "It does smell like you" he finally admitted, but we're all scavengers love when it comes right down to it, you going to tell me you wouldn't take advantage of an easy meal should you run across one?" He questioned her.
Of course she wouldn't, no one would and anyone who said they would was lying. That was just the way of life. Lion's stole, Hyena's stole, Leopards stole..heck even the jackels stole so why would they be any different?

Her lips curled back more as the male straightened up to his full height. "Of course it smells like me. I killed it." She continued to stare the male down. She had to curse internally when he pointed out that deep down they were all scavengers. She knew that point to be true, for there were a few times in her life when the hunting just didn't go that well and she had been forced to scavenge for her meal. Usiku hated scavenging. It always felt like she had failed when she did so. She hated failing.
"You're right, I have scavenged from time to time." She told the male, not moving from her position over the antelope. "But only when times get desperate. I prefer to work for my food, as you should." The fire was still in her eye, the anger was still there, but she knew she couldn't deny this crucial point. She was after all a scavenger too.

Sabu gave the female a toothy grin as she agreed with him. He'd known she would - he hadn't pegged her for the lying type, a bit self righteous perhaps but definitely not a liar. "There you see, we're not so very different after all now are we?" he said and though he phrased it like a question his tone made it pretty clear it was more of a statement. "Perhaps your would find life a bit easier if you learned to take advantage of the things you find once in a while instead of 'working' for everything" He continued, while giving her slight shrug.
"Life need not always be so tiresome" He concluded after a few moments - this female seemed the type to make everything more serious then it needed to be. "you need to learn to relax"

Usiku snorted slightly. Of course life would be easier if she took more advantage of others kills, but then she would become what she hated more of all, a lazy scavenger. Things were hard yes, being alone meant that if she was hungry she had to go hunting, there were no pack members to rely on. And yet she liked the freedom that rogue life gave her. It also meant she didn't have to be tied down to one place and she certainly didn't have listen to someone telling her what to do all the time.
"I prefer the work." She semi snapped at him. "If I don't work for my living then I have nothing to live for." She had come to that way of thinking early in her life, after she took to roaming the lands never sticking to a place for more than a few days. "Besides," she began again after a few moments pause. "I can relax when I'm dead." That may have seemed a bit of a harsh statement but Usiku really didn't care. She was never one to play nice, so why change now. "So who are you?" She asked, not like she planned to remember his name or run into him again.

Well that was sort of sad sounding, not having anything to live for except the work of hunting. Sabu enjoyed hunting, who didn't? But he certainly didn't think it was the only thing worth living for. The females words did answer a few questions however - she obviously didn't have a family, or if she had it was one she'd left behind. Sabu wondered briefly if something in the past had happened to make this female so jaded on life. It wouldn't surprise him - he'd met lots of sob stories in his journeys. That might explain her foul temper too.
"That dosen't sound like a very fulfilling life" He finally remarked, tipping his head a bit as he regarded her. "My name is Asubuhi Mwanga, but most people just call me Sabu" He introduced himself with a brief incline of his head "And ho might you be?"

She gave the male a critical eye when he told her his name. She had not heard his name before, not even from the others she had previously run into, so he must be new to this spot. Not so much different than she was, having only gotten here a few days ago. "It may not be fulfilling to you, but to me it is." She told him finally.
"Well Subu, my name is Usiku Dhoruba. Usiku for short." She replied with a bit of hesitation. She really didn't see why he needed to know her name, but perhaps if she told him he would move off and she could finish her meal in peace. Though deep down she had a feeling he would stick around, perhaps being the type that once they ran into a new face they wanted to talk, or maybe just the type that didn't get the hint.

If Subu seemed bothered by the females critical and assessing looks he didn't let on to it. In fact the male didn't seem bothered by the females foul temper at all...but then Subu had always been one to like the spirited types. Who wanted to spend their time the always cheerful and pleasant? Sure it meant you never had anything to worry about but it also got boring after a while too. Not that Subu was looking to pal around or anything.
"Well yes I imagine it is - if you've never had anything else to compare it too" He remarked, it was a bit of fishing really - perhaps he would tell him something of her past. Perhaps she would say she had once lead a happy life..or a terrible life and no found this one far more fulfilling. Maybe she would tell him nothing at all - either way he'd asked and nodded when she introduced herself. Usiki...what an interesting name.

Definitely the chatty type she thought to herself as he continued their conversation. Well on the plus side she had distracted him from taking her meal, and that was her main focus. Although she would take one thing away from their encounter, and that was to always put extra effort into hiding ones kill, even when there are no others around. Never know when those sneaky scavengers will show up. She also counted herself lucky as well. This was a one on one run in, had it been a group of dog or lions or hyenas for that matter she would not have been able to stand her ground and live. Not that she feared death, but to die over something as small as who gets a kill was not quite the way to go.
"I have seen the other ways to live Subu. I know full well what I am missing and what I have gained with this type of life." She wasn't about to tell this male why she lived alone and not in a pack. It wasn't something that she spoke of often. They were bad memories that she liked to avoid at all times.

"I see" Subu responded after Usika had finished talking, by the sounds of it the female had a few bad memories haunting her. Mayhap she had a good reason for being as ill tempered and aloof as she was. Subu however, doubted that he would ever hear the real story, it didn't seem like this female was too keen to have him stick around. Ah well, Subu - though interested - didn't find this enough of a problem to bother him, he was a pretty laid back fellow.
"In any case - it seems bout time for me to be moving on" He told the female dipping his head slightly before pausing and adding "Thanks for the free meal" with a wink before starting to walk off.

To Usiku's relief the male didn't ask any more about why she was alone. Had he asked she certainly wouldn't have told him, after all why should she spill her guts to someone she had just met. And on top of that he had tried to steal her meal. Males, she thought, can't trust them no matter what. When he spoke again she was somewhat worried that he would begin talking about something else, maybe make a comment about how hot is was or something. But then he said he was going to move on. Good, she thought.
"Yes I suppose you should be moving on." She said as he turned to walk away. Watching him closely as he left she called out to him once he was a fair ways away. "And don't think of coming back here looking for another free meal!" Not that she was going to leave the carcass here now. No it was time to move it someplace that could hide it better. Taking one last look at the retreating form of the male Usiku bent down, sinking her teeth into the antelopes flesh and began the arduous task of moving it someplace safer.
