For the moment, Hawk was leaving Athan alone. At least, for the time being. He knew, without a shadow of a doubt, that the further into the day it got the worse his attitude became.

Eventually when he thought that it was the time as he Saw it, he would return home to him.

However, considering what part of the holiday it was, Hawk thought it would be in his best interest to visit his old home. Though it had been years since he had been to the Concord residence, he thought that it would be a small honoring to Wren if he went.

Never mind something told him that all was not well with Bloodstone. Halo was gone, he knew, and the younger shadow had reverted. There was a brief ache in his chest. After all, if he had not had his connection with Athan ad had been able to get back to him, he would not have survived. Fading back into his stone would have been the least of his worries.

Tail swishing back and forth slowly behind him in thought, Hawk pulled his cloak tightly around him and kept to the shadows as he made the way to the front door. A time ago, he would have just entered.

This, however, was no longer his home.

Instead he found himself raising a hand and knocking. People were home. He knew it.

It was just another day to the Concord home, though no one other than the boys bore that last name in the household itself. Algie wasn't much of a dominator and this house would remain the home of his daughter and her husband, despite his caretaking. He would keep it safe until their return, whenever that was. As a normal day, most of the inhabitants were busy. Hela was shopping and Otium was keeping to himself. Alex was... off doing whatever he did. Algie liked the quiet though and he was quite content just doing his various researches in the study.

It wasn't unheard of to have callers at the door, especially when a teenage social butterfly shared your home with you. Despite Hela's odd appearance she seemed to be quite popular. Algie headed for the front door with Fizzy on his shoulder, perfectly balanced and bright eyed to whoever this visitor was. Algie had managed to do a little work with Bloodstone, securing him magically into a ring that he wore on his index finger. It ensured that the stone was always close to him and that if anything were wrong, he would feel it.

Fizzgig mewed loudly as he opened the door to this visitor. He was prepared for some wide eyed, well dressed teenaged boy. Hawk was certainly not what he was expecting.

"Ah.. Why hello." He gave the fiend a gentle smile, recognizing him but not very familiar. Fizzy, on the other hand, seemed adorably suspicious.

Wide-eyed teenage boy, Hawk's Eye most certainly was not. He was an odd mixture of delicate framework and muscle - it made for an interesting package when put together with the allure he inherited from Wren.

'Good afternoon,' he murmured, fingers coming up to adjust the hawk mask on his face so that his face was more visible. Sometimes he wondered if there was some bit of Wren in his features, but he mostly doubted it. The only thing they really shared was their eye color and the same luminescent quality.

His gaze flicked down briefly towards the cat just as his tail swished lazily from side to side behind him. For a moment he wondered where Lafe was off at. Had the pooka still taken to traveling or had he returned to Alex? Shaking his head, he turned his blind eyes to Bloodstone and let out a small sigh.

So his vision was correct.

'I doubt you know of me, but I did call this place home at one point. Before, much like your daughter, I went looking for the missing demon.'

"Ahh.." Realization dawned on him for a moment and he reached up to calm his tiny guard upon his shoulder. "Come in.. come in.." Algie adjusted his glasses and gave Hawk a quick once over. His sharp mind had put things together from this new visitor's comments.

"I'm sorry that I seem rather clueless." He closed the door behind Hawk as he entered. "I assume you would be Wren's shadow fiend then? What do you like to be called?" He rubbed his hand across the gently pulsing stone on his finger. It seemed to react positively against his skin upon Hawk's arrival. Algie was glad to discover that the stone had become more active as of late.

"Halo and Wren both left us all rather high and dry." He nodded back into the house. "We are dealing alright. The family is slowly piecing itself together." Slowly but surely.

"Is this about.. Wren? Or perhaps this little guy?" He pulled the ring from his finger and what had appeared like solid metal melted like mercury and then disappeared into nothing, leaving only Bloodstone on his palm.

'You would be correct,' he murmured, 'and it is Hawk's Eye or Hawk; though Wren did call me Pierce once upon a time.' The fiend arched an eyebrow at the wary kitten. Really? As much as Athan called him feline, Hawk would have figured that cats would like him - he was darkness and shadow in the daylight.

The moment, however, he was inside the shadows faded from him and he pushed the cloak back and looked considerably less sinister. ( Though it went without saying that his control of darkness was, by far, probably more hectic than that of his brethren. )

'It is not much of a family without those two to hold it together,'
he sighed. With Wren gone it had been bad enough, but with both? It was worse. Not that either one of them really had a say in what had happened.

There was a flicker of the transformation from ring to stone in his sight and Hawk turned his head back towards Algie. 'To be honest? Both.'

He held his hand out over the older man's, his fingers resting just lightly on the stone.

"Sorry, she's not open to new things." Algie noticed his kitten's behavior and patted her on the head. "Nothing personal."

He observed the fiend's change in appearance upon entering the house and also seemed to catch on to a few of the more 'wren-like' details. The wizard was being careful to absorb any information he could. He was preparing himself for the reality of a living thing being reliant on his own soul.

"We are waiting, patiently. She calls every now and again but never gives any details." It was nice to know she was alive, but she did seem more brief and vague with every call.

His head dropped to the stone when Hawk reached out for it. He felt it flutter again. The last time it felt that way was when they'd first been bonded. This fluttering was different though, more positive. He'd been spending the hour before bed every night just in meditation, something he had done since his late twenties. He hoped this stone was benefited with such a simple act of his every day life. "It's been more active recently. I'm told that it may emerge completely changed from it's last physical state. Will it remember all hat's happened?"

'I'm not either, but we all get use to things.' Or, rather, Hawk's Eye preferred things his way or otherwise there would be problems. After all, when things did not go according to plan, he was highly annoyed.

As much as his bond with Athan was now stronger than what he shared with Wren, it was rare to see a reflection of the magic-user in him. He was, in the end, Wren's soul-bonded.

'Had she seen me, I do not think I could give her answers. I could not find him myself. His presence flickers and flares and then disappears again. But I imagine she cannot offer insight or information where she doesn't have any.' Shaking his head, he kept his hand over the stone. For a moment, his finger brushed against it.

There, for a single moment, was a flicker of the sorrow and pain. The past laid behind him. His eyes lid shut as he watched flashes of Halo moving through the house, her eyes empty and everything Bloodstone was trying to do to calm her for naught.

'Maybe, but most do not remember much. He may be a little different, but I do not expect him to recall anything beyond feelings and impressions he cannot explain.'

"I fear that Halo's connection to Wren," that forged years ago, the initial meeting and summoning of the demon,"is harming her more than she lets on. I do know that part of her journey is figuring out how to deal, or what to do." Algie shook his head. Upon coming to Port Gino he'd learned just how little he knew about magic in the grander scheme of things.

He observed the fiend touch Bloodstone and could not help but question him on it. "Are the fiends connected?" He knew that they were all, on some level tied to Athan. He once again reminded himself that he wanted to attempt to pick Athan's brain if the other would allow it.

"On one hand, I'd like him to forget the harm that came to him in his time with my daughter, but on the other I think he could learn from it and perhaps it would make him stronger." Algie didn't even entertain the notion that perhaps his daughter's time with the fiend would influence the being in a negative way and that was a definite possibility.

"Is there any advice or help you can give me? Can you tell me what Bloo was like?" He'd been given mostly generalizations and Otium, who had been extensively tutored by the young fiend, always made everything seem so depressing.

'She's not like me. My soul-bond with Wren still exists, but because I share a connection with Athan I am able to survive.' Though it was still meant as a temporary thing. Hawk sighed, fingers briefly twitching towards the quartz around his wrist. 'Wherever he is, it's severed his ties to the bare minimum.'

For a moment, Hawk raised his head and stared straight at Algie. It was the blank soul-searching stare that only someone who had no sight could do. 'Through Athan, yes. If something happens to him, we would likely all know it.' But Hawk had made it his personal goal in life to look after the magic-user and keep him safe.

Even from himself if necessary.

'Then teach him when he awakens. Let him pick your brain instead of your desire to pick others.' There was humor in those blind eyes. There was more than one path he saw with his Sight that lead to Algie questioning Athan. 'But what would you like to know exactly? Bloo was very calm, certain in his serenity.'

Algie chuckled and even looked slightly sheepish as he was reminded just how transparent he could be sometimes. "I am a bit of a researcher. I am trying, my best really, to be more of a nurturer. It's difficult as a scholar to take a step back and relax. Old habits die hard."

"Calm is good. I am rather calm myself. I think that calm attitude may have harmed him when it came to my daughter." Algie's brows knitted as he thought. He wouldn't want to encourage any sort of agressive attitude, but a little more assertiveness would be good.

"I suppose it's not my decision to make. I know of the healing properties of bloodstone, which is why I suppose he was so peaceful. He may have, may still yet, develop some great healing abilities.." Algie was sort of stating facts aloud now, more than he was having a conversation. "Also the Christian church believes that Bloodstone is literally touched by the blood of Christ. Of course I have no idea if that would mean anything at all, but it certainly would explain his spirituality. As a wizard I am not so much into religion...."

Algie sort of snapped out of it for a moment, his brilliant emerald eyes blinking into Hawk's blank ones.

"I'm doing it again... aren't I?" He probably seemed like a flake, or someone completely inequipped to deal with the responsibility. It was difficult when the subject in question was, as they spoke, no more than a stone!

'Much like Athan, I suppose.' Hawk held out his hand to Algie, wanting to hold Bloodstone for a moment. When it came to Athan, Hawk usually had to distract him so he would either sleep or eat. Usually both.

'Halo was chaos, so was Wren. It's why they were drawn together.' His expression turned distant for a moment. 'I know, when I was a child, even I did not prefer Bloo's peaceful demeanor at times. Now I would appreciate that sort of serenity, but then? I abhorred it.

'There's nothing wrong with knowing, but those don't all ways tell you what will happen. Hawk's Eye is known for being something of an anxiety reliever and I know I just caused more for Wren.'
There might have been an impish swish to his tail for a moment. 'Still, Bloodstone was also use by midwives to help with birth. Placing it on the thigh allowed for women to give birth easier.'

If, for a moment, Hawk thought that Algie was someone who was a flake - he likely would have said as much.

Algie placed the stone in Hawk's outstretched palm.

"Well most children, whether human or otherwise, dislike peace!" Algie laughed. It was a genuine laugh of understanding from someone who knew all about raising children. Everywhere he turned there were more young ones who needed his assistance. It was funny to him, considering how he spent his younger years.

The elder wizard did nod his head in appreciation of what Hawk said. "I must admit to just being nervous." Nervous because of the state of the stone in his charge and nervous because when it came to life, if magic couldn't fix it.... well then sometimes he was just at a loss.

'Especially fiends.' Chaos was what most children shadows wanted - though there were a rare few that wanted either more than that or peace and quiet. One never could tell.

'He'll ease that nervousness, you know.' Fingers lightly closing around Bloodstone, he started trailing along the paths he saw with his True Sight. Mostly he picked through the day-to-day activities, looking for anything out of the ordinary.

Algie would nurture Bloodstone well.

'He is, was, will be ... far more quiet than most of his brethren.'
PostPosted: Wed Jan 13, 2010 4:48 pm

"Well that'll be a change around here. The boys have all grown and while some of them may keep to themselves, boys will be boys." He'd caught Otium and Alex wrestling the other day. It wasn't clear if it was malicious or for fun (you couldn't often tell with boys) but they'd almost cracked open a vase that shouldn't be broken.

Amongst those day to day memories Hawk would see all the attention that Bloo had put into the children. He'd spent large amounts of time trying to tutor them and most of that time was with Otium. It was clear how withdrawn Otium had gotten, but he had grown tall and had learned the fighting skills amazingly well.

Also among the memories was the nightmare creature that Bloodstone had battled, wrapped up in visions and memories, and finally trapped within the jade lion statue that still sat in the study of the house.

Algie was comfortable with the brief silence that Hawk's examination gave them. In fact, he was rather curious. "Do you... see anything?"

'Lafe is here now, yes?' he asked absently, his fox-tail swishing in thought. For all that his visions showed him, he knew that Lafe was all ways close behind Alejandro. Watching his interactions with Otium and, on occasion, having the other teach him a few things about combat. His fingers lightly rubbed against Bloodstone and he let a tendril of his own energy seep into the stone.

The nightmare creature caught Hawk's interest, some part of him wondering if that had anything to do with what was going on now. For a moment there was a flicker of something at the edge of his senses, but just as quickly as he thought he had a glimpse of something, it escaped.

'He will be ... different,' he murmured, his eyes open but staring off in the distance, 'still calm, but a different path. A warrior, but unlike what he could have been under your daughter's care.'
