"Cordelia, would you please stop clinging to me?" Ebony huffed slightly as she gently pried the dark Frei holding her right arm hostage in a vice grip like hold. At first it was thought of as endearing, but now the Brit was beginning to get annoyed with her ward's utter addiction to warmth. She was all bundled up for goodness sake! Didn't that account for anything?
Cordelia huffed in return and switched sides instead, showing just how stubborn she could be too. Did Ebby not realize how cold it was outside? As pretty as it was, the snow was a clear indication that the weather was now well below zero degrees. ZERO DEGREES! Cordelia would be lucky not to freeze to death out here. Her guardian tended to forget that unlike her, the Basilisk was cold-blooded and thus was not producing any heat under those thick layers of hers, merely retaining what little was there from when they left the car.
The violet haired femme sighed and just gave in. There was no use fighting since the girl wouldn't be kept from her precious heat no matter the source. Which when they went out, rare these days, was unfortunately Ebony. Luckily the site from which they'd park wasn't far from the store she'd needed to visit today. There were rumors about a valuable cursed mask being sold here. And of course the thief just had to check it out, curse or not.

Although it was already midday, the chill that the wind brought with it made Hazeline wrap the scarf about her neck a little closer. Placing her hands deep within her pants pocket, the guardian gave her white frei a glance. Xiu seemed unaffected by the cold weather much; opting to equip himself with only a pair of gloves to ward off the nipping of the cold wind. Perhaps it was because he had been lucky enough to be born with a set of warm looking clothes. Either way, Xiu seemed contented to float beside his guardian as she walked past the row of shops aligning the streets. Stopping in front of an antique store, Hazeline peered in through the dusty windows.
“Want to take the look, Xiu?” asked Hazeline turning to her raevan. “There seems to be lots of interesting old things in there,”
“I’d rather not, thank you,” replied Xiu politely but with a firm shake of his head.
“Why? Is there something you dislike about antiques?”
“They are old,” the white raevan replied with a shrug. “Some of them have seen death,”
Hazeline blinked. Xiu’s explanation was queer at best and it left the young woman baffled. “Well….they are antiques, they are supposed to be old. The older they are, the higher the price, Xiu. Obviously the older ones would have changed hands some, if they are truly antiques,”
Xiu nodded. “I know that Hazeline but…why would anyone want to possess such old things? The newer ones are cheaper and…new.” The white frei shifted his wings uneasily. Was it alright to tell Hazeline that it made him feel uneasy as well? Seeing so many mementos from the past congregated in one place gave the white frei a stifling feeling. It made him edgy. Rather like being close to a graveyard thought Xiu to himself before taking Hazeline’s hand and tugging it gently. “Let’s go Hazeline,”

Had the dark Frei still been clinging to her right side instead of the left now, Ebony might have noticed Xiu and Hazeline only a few feet away quietly debating going into the store as well. Yet she hadn't unfortunately due to the Raevan wall between them and her peripheral vision. And the only reason Cordelia hadn't notice was because she was too busy hugging her guardian's arm for dear life and nuzzling her face deeper into the collar of her coat. Thus the duo walked into the store quickly to escape the cold without saying a word to them.
The little bell on the door jingled happily as they entered, echoing off into the distance to alert any workers of customers. Stamping her feet to rid her black boots of the white accumulation, Ebony slowly wormed her arm out of her ward's, but soon was placing the gloved fingers on the girl's shoulder to garner her attention. Delia blinked and looked into her woman's matching grey eyes. What was that so very serious look on her face all of a sudden? The answer quickly came.
"Now Cordelia I want you to listen very carefully." she said with more annunciation to her words than usual. "Like always you mustn't touch anything in here unless you ask first. The things in here are very special and very fragile. So please be very careful. Do you understand?"
A pout developed, but mostly because she didn't like the way her woman spoke now. Her voice was so...sterile sounding, lecturing. Delia sighed but nodded her understanding of the terms. She already knew this from their other outings to previous stores. Her woman should give her more credit when it came to remembering. Just because she didn't speak didn't mean she didn't hear. Carefully, sharp wings tucked close to her back so not to accidentally knock something over, she ventured further into the store and view it's many wares. Ebony followed behind slow, eyes merely glossing over things as she waited for an employee to appear so she could ask about the mask.

Both Xiu and Hazeline stared as two familiar figures walked past them and into the antique shop; both seeming unaware of their presence. “Well…I like that,” said Xiu looking indignant. “We were right next to them,”
“Well, Xiu, you can hardly expect them to notice us with the way the both of them are occupied with each other,” said Hazeline with a shrug. “And anyway, it’s done. The next thing to do would be to either…walk away or…meet them,”
Xiu gave Hazeline a peculiar look. “We are meeting them of course! What kind of people would we be otherwise?”
Hazeline laughed. Xiu’s reply was expected and the guardian was already pushing the door to the antique shop open. Stepping in, the guardian called out to the other. “Ebony? Cordelia? We saw you out back and thought we’d say hi,”
Xiu nodded. “It’s been a while. How have you been?”
Although the white frei was smiling, Xiu was feeling tensed. The closed space, old artifacts and chilly atmosphere did nothing to ease the white raevan’s dislike of the place and Xiu couldn’t help casting a longing look to the streets outside. Out there, the sun seemed bright and with all the living people enjoying their day out…

Both females turned in unison at the call of their names, mirrors of one another minus the hair. Yet whereas Cordelia burst into a broad grin at recognizing the other Raevan and his guardian, Ebony was more subdued with a fair smile. With a nod of her purple haired head, "Well ello Hazeline, Xiu. Yes it has been a while. We've been doing well considering the past couple of months..." The Brit allowed her words to drift a bit as her thoughts went back to the time of the virus briefly before coming back to the present. "How about yourselves? Were your holidays well?"
Meanwhile, bright smile still in place, Cordelia floated over to the white Frei. Such a contrast the two of them were when standing next to one another. A dark female and a light male, opposites in the extreme, but they were both Raevans and as such had some similarities if only minor. Gently, like she had when she'd meet them the first time, Delia gave her customary greeting by placing a chilled hand on his cheek. Yet unlike that time, the smokey femme actually spoke. "Xiu."

“We are fine. Had a rather quiet holiday this year but with all that’s been going on, I guess no one’s complaining,” said Hazeline with a chuckle before glancing at the purple haired woman. Ebony looked as fit as the day Hazeline had first seen her. Hazeline wondered what sort of job Ebony did to enable her to achieve such a figure. Their previous encounter, although certainly not brief, was chaotic enough to not warrant the guardians enough time to get to know each other better.
“So umm…you seem to have an interest in antiques?” said Hazeline wondering if perhaps Ebony was an antiques dealer of some sort. It must be interesting, searching for rare antiques that occasionally appear in small stores and selling them to a willing buyer.
While the two guardians were conversing, Xiu was content to give his attention to the dark frei before him. As stunning as ever, Xiu watched with some amusement as Delia greeted him in a manner that was similar to their first meeting. Gently taking hold of Delia’s hand, Xiu marveled at how smooth its texture was. “Haha, it’s great to see you again, Cordelia and...you are talking now aren’t you? Congratulations,”

"I'm glad to hear that." she said with a smile that was nothing more than content at the news she'd just received from the other woman. Idly looking over a middle eastern vase, Hazeline's observation wasn't lost on her. There was a moment before she answered, careful with her words. "Yes, you could say that I suppose. I'm actually here to inquire about a mask. Rumor is that it's cursed, not that I really buy that. More often than not, things supposedly cursed aren't. What about you? Are you interested in antiques as well?"
Cordelia just kept smiling at the white Raevan. Just like the others, he'd seemed pretty pleased of her speech, yet once that was done the girl wasn't sure what else to do exactly. She didn't know more words. Well she knew them, but wasn't sure how to pronounce them or string them together properly so that Xiu understood what she wanted to say to him. This thought only served to make her a bit frustrated as noted by the slight flicking of her wings.
The Basilisk sighed and shook her head, a clear indication that she was not able to say anymore just yet. She hoped Xiu wouldn't hold that against her. Delia would try to communicate as effectively as possible though should he want to continue speaking with her now.

“My interests in them are sadly limited to just admiring them from afar,” said Hazeline with a small shake of her head as she followed Ebony’s gaze to an intricate looking vase. Hazeline wondered if it was expensive and if so, just how old was it?
At the mention of a curse however, Hazeline looked up interested. “I do not know, Ebony…I mean…well…I wouldn’t try risking myself with a jinxed object,” ventured Hazeline slowly, not wanting to offend the other. “Some people are just superstitious like that,”
Xiu smiled softly as the other sighed and shook her head; nodding slightly in understanding. He too had trouble grasping the human language when he was just born and guessed that it took longer for some than others. Flicking his wings to mimic the other, the white frei made a small wave with his hand before looking questioningly at Delia as though asking her the purpose of her visit to the antique shop.

Ebony carefully placed the vase back on the shelf before them. "Hmm...you bring up a good point Hazeline. Perhaps I ought to be a bit more superstitious given the almost supernatural qualities of our charges. Though I've always been of the mind to not believe without seeing, you know?" She sighed as if it were a shame, yet it couldn't be completely trusted since her lips held a certain smug twitch to them, as if it weren't a shame at all. Greed had a way of making people see only their goals and nothing else while pride made those same people feel unstoppable and indestructible. The Brit at her best and worst was guilty of both.
Before she could drum up more conversation between the other woman, an older looking gentleman with pepper and salt hair showed up from the back of the store. "I'm sorry for the wait. May I help you ladies with anything today?" He seemed totally unaware of the two floating half people also there in the room with them, but perhaps nothing surprised him these days.
She smiled, eager to ask the man about the mask, but felt it would be rude not to allow her companion of the moment a chance to look at something. Looking to the other now, "Hazeline, was there anything you were curious about?"
Cordelia wasn't sure what Xiu was doing. He could speak so why didn't he if he had a question? Did everyone think she couldn't hear as well? Did they think her slow or stupid? The notion that perhaps the male was mocking her crossed the snake's mind and it made her mad, dangerous wings flicking quickly behind her dark form. If she wasn't careful she'd end up knocking something over in her frustration.
The Basilisk tried to calm down, deep breathes being taken in and out through clenched teeth, her nose flaring notably. She had to think things logically. Xiu most likely was not trying to upset her, at least not on purpose. Though she wasn't positive exactly on what he was asking, Cordelia just shrugged and pointed to her purple haired guardian. After all, Ebony was the one who'd dragged her here against her will. She'd rather be at home in front of the fire like she usually was.

“N-No, not really,” said Hazeline with a shake of her head. “I guess my family, well, mom’s side at any rate, are a little more superstitious than most. Many I know wouldn’t care all that much. Although, yeah, the raevans, they are amazing, aren’t they?” said Hazeline as she gave both Delia and Xiu a glance. They seemed to be getting along alright. Xiu seemed to be gesturing at something and Cordelia was replying with a gesture of her own as well. Were they playing a sort of game then?
It was then that an elderly gentleman stepped in and enquired if they needed help. Hazeline shook her head and took a step back indicating that Ebony was the interested party not her. “No, nothing Ebony. I was just…ah, dropping in I guess,” said Hazeline sheepishly as the elderly gentleman turned his gaze in her direction. “I’ll just…browse or something,”
Xiu’s face fell when he saw that his gesture was causing some misunderstanding with the female Basilisk. Already the other’s wings were flicking themselves in an agitated manner and the femme’s facial features were contorted into that of anger. Backing away a little from Cordelia with his hands upraised in a yielding gesture, Xiu was glad that the Basilisk seemed to have calmed herself down a little.
“Sorry, Cordelia,” said Xiu softly with genuine concern. “I did not mean to offend you and I am truly sorry that I did,” said Xiu offering his hand to the frei. “Perhaps…if we could start again; on the right foot this time?”
Cordelia had then pointed to her guardian and Xiu momentarily shifted his gaze to eye the Brit. He and Hazeline appeared to be talking to an old man. Did Ebony bring Cordelia out with her on this antique hunting trip then? Cordelia did not look particularly pleased being out here and…judging by the amount of clothes she wore, Xiu guessed that the frei preferred the warmth of home rather than the chilly bite of the outside. But…this shop was only moderately warmer than the streets and once again the white frei found himself looking longingly at the bright world outside.
An idea suddenly popped into the white frei’s head as he eyed Cordelia. “Hey, Cordelia, would you…like to step out of this shop for a moment? It’s simply stifling here,” said Xiu pointing to the shop’s exit. “We won’t go far. I just…need some fresh air,”

"Nonsense Hazeline. You must be just as curious as I am about this mask I'm looking for. Please, feel free to stay if you want." Honestly she didn't want the woman to feel like she needed to go away or something. Although she couldn't divulge exactly why she wanted the mask or what she'd eventually intended to do with it once acquired, Ebony had nothing to hide while she haggled with the man. And she was enjoying the others company. At the word mask, the elderly gent's brow rose slight in question. Which mask exactly were they talking about? And as lovely as she could make it, the purple haired female turned back to him and smiled. "Well as you heard, I'm looking for a mask. I'm not privy to the exact details of its actual features, yet I am told it's Venetian." Hopefully that would be enough. How many of those types of masks could he possibly have on hand at the same time? It was an antique store after all, not a mask store. With a knowing nod, the man quickly beckoned them to follow him as he lead them further into the back. Soon they came to a back counter and the clerk bent behind it and pulled out a black box case. In one fatal swoop, he clicked opened the metal locks and revealed to the women the mask. The brunette made a perplexed frown at Xiu's awkward statement. She looked between the both of them, noting that they indeed did not possess anything that could be remotely referred to as a bottom half except for their complimenting ribbons. Whose foot was he referring to then? Then the white male pointed outside and was requesting her to go with him. Her grey eyes peered out the windows, seeing how the snow blanketed the land while the wind whirled some debris around. She could just imagine the cold bite of that wind then and it made her shiver. Delia sighed though because if she didn't go with him then she'd be stuck in here with nothing to do but float around and keep from breaking something while her woman took forever. She seemed to ponder for a few moments, swaying slightly as she did before finally making up her mind. Cordelia snaked her arms tight around one of Xiu's as if bracing for some great impact. Hopefully he'd provide enough warmth for her or at the very least block most of the chill while they ventured outside.

At Ebony’s invitation and Hazeline’s own curiosity about the supposedly cursed mask, the guardian chose to stay by the purple haired woman’s side. It was not everyday that you were shown an antique with nasty story to it. Well, at least not in Hazeline’s line of work.
Tilting her head curiously, Hazeline watched as the elderly gentleman led them into the back of the shop where a back counter stood. The man had then bent over and picked up a rather mysterious looking box with metal locks attached to it. Deftly, the man had opened the locks and in it, was a mask.
Hazeline blinked. There was nothing particularly astounding about the mask. True, it was a detailed piece of art but…Hazeline had seen similar designs from cheap souvenir stalls. Perhaps it was her lack of knowledge in this field but…the mask did not exactly…take her breath away. What is did though, was give Hazeline a slight chill. Somehow, the guardian found herself thinking that the mask was creepy. Wanting to know of Ebony’s feeling, Hazeline gave the Brit a glance.
Xiu watched as Delia gave him a perplexed look before glancing down at their ribbons before realizing that the other had taken the meaning of ‘foot’ quite literally. Shaking his head a little, Xiu smiled. He remembered a time when words such as these stumped him as well. Has it been more than a year already?
The wrapping of Delia’s arms around his own brought Xiu out his musings and the frei was surprised to see the Basilisk clinging onto him as though the very thought of going out into the open was a terrible thing to endure.
“Umm…well, if you’d really rather not go out,” said Xiu softly as he took hold of Delia’s shoulders and giving the Basilisk a gentle smile as he did so. “I won’t force you, alright Cordelia? We can stay in here if you want,”
It was then that the white raevan began feeling really uneasy. If his uneasiness was anything to complain about before, the disappearance of his guardian and Cordelia’s into the back of the shop was enough to warrant some internal alarm system within the white raevan. “Hey Cordelia, I guess…we won’t be going out after all,” said Xiu with a slightly worried tone of voice. “Let’s go see…where our guardians are, alright?”
Thus saying so, the white frei gently took hold of the Basilisk’s hand and together, the two of them made their way to the shop’s back.

Her eyes glittered with the light of a child in the presence of candy or the perfect toy. True, the mask wasn't as elaborately decorated as she'd initially thought it would, but the aura of mystery and eeriness it invoked was second to none. This had to be the correct mask! Much too eager to have it in her hands, Ebony reached out to examine it first hand. All too quick the case was shut, nearly catching the Brit's well manicured fingers in the process.
"I'm sorry miss, but you mustn't touch the merchandise. After all they say it's cursed." He smiled in a similar manner as Ebony had earlier. Apparently he didn't put much stock into myths and rumors either. "Besides, I can't have browsers muddling it up. That is...unless you intend to buy?" There was a note of hopefulness in that question.
Ebony's nose flared and twitched in irritation at this man's sales technique. Obviously he was trying to bait her by dangling the prize in her face and then cruelly snatching it away. Not that he needed it since she'd come seeking possession already. She took a moment to calm down before looking to the other female once more. "Hmm...I don't know...what do you think Hazeline? Should I buy?"
Delia sighed again, not understanding Xiu's actions. One moment he wanted to go outside and now he wanted to stay? Honestly, he should really make up his mind already. Yet, the white Raevan seemed honestly worried about something. His guardian perhaps? Did she not know how to take care of herself? And if not, then why was she Xiu's caregiver? Ah, so many questions and yet no way to ask them now. So she simply allowed the other to lead her to where their women had gotten to.

Ebony’s reaction towards the ‘cursed’ mask was about as easy to read as an open book. The Brit was totally infatuated with the ancient thing and Hazeline found herself giving the mask a second glance as if to confirm if the mask that they were looking at had some hidden design she had missed on her first glance. It was also around this time that Ebony had reached out to examine the mask when the case was rudely snapped shut in the Brit’s face. The manner in which the old man had behaved clearly irked the purple haired woman, if her flaring and twitching nostrils were any indication.
Feeling an instant sense of camaraderie for Ebony when faced with such a crafty seller, Hazeline found herself playing along with the purple haired Brit. If the seller wanted to play it hard, they, as the customers could play it harder. Having grown up with a grandmother noted for her haggling capabilities, Hazeline guessed it wouldn’t hurt to put some of her techniques to use. Tapping her finger against her chin lightly, Hazeline pretended to consider the other’s question. It was best that did not show too much interest in it for the time being.
“It depends,” answered Hazeline vaguely. “After all…we have only discussed the possibility of acquiring it, we have yet to make a decision,” said Hazeline hoping her lackadaisical attitude would instill some seller’s urgency to not lose a prospective customer. After all, antiques were merely old items given value and never a necessity.
Xiu gave Delia an apologetic smile as he led the Basilisk deeper into the shop towards Ebony and his guardian. The white raevan’s apprehension as they neared the back counter grew with every step they took. The claustrophobic feeling only amplified as they made their way past rows of ancient antiques, their ‘energy’ stale from bygone years. The feeling of earlier dread however had decreased and Xiu wondered at this. Floating up to his guardian, Xiu watched the match between buyer and seller with some interest.
