Sholazar was seriously going to bust a gut watching Jade Dream 1. He loved it, it was great, but he needed something more serious to keep him from loosing it completely. But what... what....? He thought. He sifted through the dreams of those asleep and lit on three specific minds, linked. Well... perhaps a game could be fun with them. But what game... what game...? That's the question. A grin formed over his features as an idea bloomed. Well why ever not?
The stage materialized first, even before he brought in the dreamers. A huge coliseum with a nice roof. The stands were packed with spectators waving the flags of their favorites, or... well...their favorites of who was left. The announcer came into being as a pair of disembodied voices. Then the three dreamers were brought in.
In the blue corner was Hayate, in his knight clothes, who would have felt as though he had been pushing himself hard for days and had, maybe a half hour rest since most.
In the white corner was Himeno, in her school clothes. She would feel amped. A little sore...but when has that ever stopped her?
In the purple corner was fenril in all her butterfly summoning glory.
For anyone who noticed that three corners were more rightly called angles, and made a triangle, not a Square (or a ring like for boxing) Congratulations, you might have passed fifth grade math. Maybe. As it was, Fenril was at a point from them that made a very long triangle. She was ahead of both, and between then, her glowing eyes narrowed, long sleeves trailing the ground. Behind her, a LONG way behind her, was a door.
"While we wait for the final round to begin, let's look at some footage from earlier this competition," An announcer said, conveniently filling the dreamers in to what they had supposedly just experienced. "On the first day of the challenge we bid an early good bye to Tanaka in the forty yard relay when he forgot what team he was on. Lets see that footage!"
A clip filled screens that all could see. He and the other racers in the second leg waiting for the baton. Hajime who was running his had fallen behind. Natsume in the next lane raced forward, some ho able to MOVE in that dress. She held out the baton to Kaoru. Tanaka dashed forward to reach for it. Natsume, oblivious, ran to Kaoru. Tanaka sank to the ground and lost four more hairs, as well as the race. He was eliminated, as was his teammates, Hajime and Tiipii. The clip faded away.
"While it was a shame, some one does have to go first. On our next day the competition went on swimmingly. Well, except for Go, who was the next to be eliminated. I guess swimming pools and Fire Knights don't mix. Where as Mannen put in a command performance, let's see the footage!"
The clip showed Go eying the pool as most of the others dived in. He made a fireball, clearly thinking to evaporate it all when Fenril turned around and splashed him. Laughing, Mannen made and Ice bridge and started crossing it. Go made to follow, but made the mistake of calling Mannen a kid. Mannen let go of the ice under Go and left him for stage hands to fish out of the pool as he strode across the water, taking an easy lead. The clip faded.
"Next up was temptation island."
"That's right," the other commentator put in, sounding oddly like Sholazar himself. "The betting was strong on Himeno to be eliminated here, with the temptation of a table full of food before her."
"Well everyone knows that is the single weakness common to all Shojo heroines," the first commentator quipped.
"However, as she approached the table," the second one continued, "Mayune failed her test, as was evidanced by, well, let's show the clip!"
The clip came up, Himeno heading for a table heavily laden with sweets. She sat in the chair, only to fall through the seat. Mayune laughed as she was disqualified. The clip faded.
"The challenge of temper was lost by Mannen. For this challenge those who lost previous competitions were allowed to come back to taunt the ones still in the game. The same word that spelled doom for Go sealed the fate of Mannen. Then came the Trial by fire, or more specifically, fire walking. Shin was drawn first, and brought the game to an early close by resigning. The next game was a race through a house of mirrors. While some reported seeing images from a different series entirely, most of the competitors made it through in good time. Fenril was the clear winner, however, as she destroyed all the mirrors that showed what she didn't want to see, then simply followed her butterflies through the maze. Sasame was a close second when he remembered he could teleport. Kei was our looser in that compilation, and as near as we can tell, he is still in the first room."
Laughter filled the stands.
"Sasame lost the challenge of honesty, however," the commentator drawled. "There is still some controversy over if he actually lost, or cheater to loose, however. Each contestant was asked to state honestly their dearest wish. Himeno and Hayate passed with flying colors, as did Natsume and Karou, though their answers were somewhat nauseating. The remaining line up was Sasame, then Fenril, then Mawata. A replay shows that Sasame, looked at Fenril before answering. Had she bribed him, threatened him, what was going through his head, when he said his dearest wish was to seal her up again?"
"He must have known she would want revenge for that" the second commentator put in.
"Except that the lie detector went off, proving his words false. Something to think about kiddos. With a clear looser in hand, the contest drew to a close. Next was the trial of cruelty. Without touching each other, each contestant was to make the one they were randomly paired with cry. This was a double elimination round, and the first two to cry would be disqualified."
"The teams were Fenril/Mawata, Himeno/Hayate, and Karou/Natsume," the Sholazar commentator put in.
A clip came up on the screen of the face off. Hayate and Himeno were both stubborn, too stubborn to let the other's words do anything but tick them off. Fenril was speaking softly to Mawata, whose eyes were widening and going oh so hollow. But then Karou sank to the ground, claiming he couldn't do it, he couldn't say anything to knowingly hurt Natsume. She sank beside him and they held each other, agreeing and crying as they were both eliminated. The clip faded. "Soon after, Mawata resigned for the competition. She gave no explanation and has been in her room ever since, refusing all interviews."
"Which leaves us with just three competitors in the final round folks," the commentator announced. Himeno, representing the Pretears will be squaring off against Hayate of the Leafe Knights, and Saihi of the Fenrils."
"FENRIL" she snarled. "I am the only one!"
"Don't tell Dee that," the commentator muttered something under his breath before continuing. "So now we are here for our final round. The rules are simple. The arena has been developed by wiggly wiggly Icchan, and as such, the area can change at random, and change it will. Saihi Fenril stands between the door, and the other two competitors. If she can stop them from going through before the hour is up, she wins. Whoever gets to that door first, before the hour is up, is the winner."
Dream logic would fill the three with the need to win. They might not remember why it was so urgent, but it was. They had to win. That simple.
"Teleporting is against the rules in the competition," the announcer continued, "As is killing. Any one who commits a death blow will automatically loose. Of course,t hat gives us a clear winner, and good ratings, so you've been warned, but not discouraged!"
the audience cheered.
"The rest of the rules are in this book." A rule book appeared on the screens, a hand flipping the pages, showing it to be blank and empty. "At the Whistle...."
The ground sprang up into a huge dark forest, the same setting he had used for Jade Dream 1.
"ALLEZ CUIS.....er... CONTESTANTS READY! FENRIL READY! GO!"
Sholazar leaned back. "Game on," he said t himself, watching.

Himeno dashes forward, all energy and enthusiasm. She WAS going to win this! And more than that, she was gonna beat that arrogant Hayate and prove to him once and for all that she was a GOOD Pretear!

Wind whipped around Hayate as he used his powers to lift himself up above the trees. Teleporting might have been against the rules, but no one had said anything about flying.

Fenril grinned. For the moment, Himeno would hold. She wasn't the true advisory anyway. With a wicked grin she lifted a hand, sending a swarm of vicious violent butterflies at Hayate, with specific instructions to aim for his face. Lets see how well he can fly, blink and distracted.

Hayate yelped, raising his hands to shield his face. He quickly used his wind to slice through the butterflies.

Himeno stumbled and hesitated when she heard the yelp. What should she do? She could keep going but... he needed help... aw heck. She started toward the sounds of battle.

Fenril had no clue Himeno was coming. She had floated up as she added more butterflies. She had to gloat. Ah what a beautiful sight.

Himeno finally stumbled across the fighting Hayate. It took her a moment to realize the haze of purple was a swarm of butterflies. She gasped and rocked back a step in shock, then noticed that Hayate was smack in the middle of it. Bracing herself, she plunged in, reaching out her hand to him. "Hayate!"

He heard Himeno's voice and winced. Dang it, why did she have to show up now, of all times? "Go away!" he snapped. "I don't need you! You'll only get in my way!"

Fenril laughed and lifted a hand, sending a bolt of dark energy at Himeno, intending to knock her well back and away from Hayate.

"Watch out!" Hayate shouted, diving for her. He slammed into her just as the bolt was about to hit, taking the brunt of the attack.

"Hayate!" Himeno cried, shocked and horrified. She wrapped her arms around his waist and tried to pull him into the trees and away from Fenril.

Fenril laughed and followed them down, keeping out of reach. "Aw isn't that sweet, but really, Himeno, don't you know you're wasting your efforts?"

Himeno released Hayate and quickly moved to stand in front of him protectively. "I won't let you hurt him!"
