I speak some French. When I went to France, I was good enough speaking it to get across what I needed to say. I would really like to learn Japanese and Chinese... both Mandarin and Cantonese. I also want to learn Spanish, cause with the Hispanic population being 13 percent in US... and me hating cold weather.... I might need it. So!

Hmm. maybe I should start a few chatterbox threads outside of this guild to so that people can practice chatting. I'll link them here as I go along, because I really want you guys to participate.

i mostly learned Spanish, but not as well as i would have liked. 5 years, and i don't think i speak very well. most Spanish speaking people i know say i have a good accent, but i could stand to work on my vocab a bit more. they're right.
i would have loved to learn French, and i know a couple phrases (the standard ones) in Japanese, French, and Chinese (Cantonese).
it would be so incredible to be able to just go off on a tangent in a completely different language! my friend at work speaks Chinese, and sometimes when she's talking, she'll just say something in Chinese, and we're all confused, and she doesn't even know she's doing it. she's not even of Chinese descent! she learned on a trip to Tibet, she says. it's so awesome... eek

[I'm so happy to see there are so many people with an interest in learning another language besides English~!
Once, while at work, a woman complained to me because she had to hear an option in Spanish on our automated voice-response system...
"...The option is there in case you speak Spanish and would like to continue in that language," I said.
"Yes, but people speak Dutch and Polish and French too; they don't need those options up there *bitchbitch whinemoan*."
"But...Spanish is the second most spoken language here in the US--"
"*Bitchbitch crap moan whine!!*"
So I dropped it after that. Stupid stuck up egocentric... stressed ...*sigh*... Anyway, I'm glad that a lot of people aren't like her.
I myself speak a little Spanish, but not fluently, and I know very little French maybe a smidge of Italian, just because Mom had an Italian friend growing up. 3nodding I also know some ASL, or American Sign Language. I'd love to be able to communicate with everyone I meet, no matter where in the world I am. whee ]

Mesatsu_Gouki I mainly speak english, but I also speak German....very very poorly. [My aunt speaks some German! surprised
I never really learned it, but from what I've seen/heard by watching the news in German: they seem to have a lot of cognates, which would make it seemingly easier to learn German than, say...Hindi.]
