Peca had left the pack lands she lived on wanting to get a taste of the world outside again. She loved her pride a great deal but she needed to get out and taste the world, needed to clear her head some. She was in love and she knew it now, she was so overwhelmed by this new feeling that she felt a need to get away for just a little while.
She came over the tip of a hill and watched all those around her, creatures from the other side. She felt a little uneasy having been living in her wonderfully sheltered pride but none the less she stuck it out. As the freckled cheetah walked around she spotted a lone little pup. She moved towards it, her face filled with worry but at the same time a welcoming smile on it.

Kallista had awoken that morning with a loud, jaw snapping yawn. She blinked her baby eyes for a minute to clear away the sleep and blurry vision. 'Uh-oh,' She thought to herself recalling how she got here in the first place.
(Flashback and zoom in on Kallista) There Kallista sat looking and trying to listen to what her parents were saying. 'I should listen to mama, she's staying something about staying with the herd-OH! A butterfly!' Her thoughts interrupted by the pretty shiny butterfly's wings. At the time her parents had been so distracted by their other children they did not notice Kallista wander off, snapping her jaws at the flying insect. After awhile it got boring and feeling tired from chasing the butterfly she decided to rest her eyes for a minute. (End Flashback)
Giving herself a full body shake she tried to wake herself up, she didn't notice who watched her from above. She shook so hard she also fell over her own feet but a sneeze somewhat balanced her. Looking around she noticed she was all alone. The situation finally hit her, "Mama? Papa?" Her eyes began to water as she looked around in confused fear.

Peca made it to teh side of the small hyena pup in time to see the poor things eyes well up with tears, it made her heart ache. "Shhhh little dear." the older hyena soothed the little one, she nuzzled brown main of the little one with her nose.
She sat down close to the little pup, "My name is Peca." she began hoping that an introduction would sooth the little pup somewhat. She wanted to make sure that she was ok, perhaps she could help her with what ever she need. She looked down at the small one, her heart aching.

Kallista jumped startled at the appearance of the adult female infront of her, tail hanging down in a little bit of fear but calmed down at the gentle words and physical comfort. "Hello Pe-she-a," she said softly and slowly with somewhat watery eyes. "My name Kallista, I lost. No mama or papa here, I follow butterfly and then they gone."

Peca frowned unhappy that the little one was away from her family. Family was an important aspect to Peca, she loved family, in fact she had joined her pack because it had such a feeling of family to it.
"My little, that is so sad. Would you like for me to help you find your home dear Kallista?" she asked in a gentle voice, she wasn't entirely sure how to go about finding the little ones home, but she would do her best to help look.

Kallista looked at Peca with teary eyes, " Yes please. I want to find my moma and home. " She stumbled up to Peca and looked up at her. " I remember a big ol' rock shaped like a bone near home. " Kallista looked hopefully at Peca to see if the older one knew what she was talking about. It really was a stroke of luck to run into someone to help her out. It was awfully scary to be on ones own especially when you were young.

Diefenbaker yawned lazily, it was rare that he let himself go and relaxed. But seeing as he wasn't on duty he found nothing wrong with it at all. He was still walking in that same steady pace as he roamed the rogue lands, it really was a quite boring day so far not much excitement. A stray breeze blew his fur and caused his nose to twitch from a smell it carried. Two scents. One was hyena and the other... he wasn't too sure. Possibly a lioness? It made him weary, generally both together was not a good combination.
To check it out or not? That was the question. A whimper in their direction caused him to pause and he bit his lip with a sigh. He was not one to ignore a possible victim. "Alright. Alright." Decision made, he stalked towards the possible threat and unknown dangerous scene.

Kallista was interrupted by a smell of canine, no it wasn't hyena, but something else. "Sumfin's here," She looked imploringly at Peca but blinked to find her gone. "Ohno, no Imma 'lone." She whimpered in despair at the abandonment. "I just haveta be quiet." She montra'd to herself in a whisper as she looked for some place to hide. "-haveta be-oof." She looked up and up and up to find a male looking down at her. Her eyes widened and she let out a startled yell. "You found me!" She gasped in horror and backpeddled.

Dief could understand the little ones fright. He, afterall, was huge in her little mind and that of another species. "It's alright little one, I just here to check out the situation. What appears to be the problem?" He eyed the surrounding area cautiously incase this was a set up. Proper preparation and all that. "I will do my best to help if I am able and if I can't then I will try to find someone else that can."
Brown eyes stared into the pretty blue ones with curiousity. He assumed she was a hyena and his first one to be seen. He tried to come off as calm not wanting to make the situation worse.
Off in the distance he took in a dark forboding place. It smelled of death and seemed to project sadness.

Kallista felt her nerves begin to relax somewhat and her scared panting begin to cease. He was a stranger after all, but his mannerisms were... nice. "I lost." Her lip wibbled at not only the situation but from being abandoned by the previous stranger. Not going closer to the unknown male but not backing up. Kalli was getting antsy from being away from her family for so long. "I wanna go home now. I miss mama and papa and my fambily."

Oh dear. "Lost you say?" Dief paused to take in the distraught behaviour before mentally sigh. He always was a sucker for females and helplessness. "Can you tell me what you home looks like? It is possible I can help you in your time of need. A basic description is more than sufficient." He smiled down at those brown eyes. "How rude of me, I have been remiss to not tell you my name. It is Diefenbaker, but many like to use the nickname Dief which I find is usable."

Kallista looked at the wild dog half in confusion and half in hope. Some of the words he used she understood while others she did not but she did understand the tone. He wanted to help and she found herself becoming happier. Kalli wanted to believe he would get her home and so she did. "I'm Kalli'sta Mister Dief and um my home-" She paused to think about what her home looked like. "Its mostly dark and um bones. Lotsa bones 'round my home. My home has lotsa hyeeners like me!" She pointed to herself using her paw. "And, um, yeah that's all I got. Thanks fer helpin' me! "

"I see Miss Kallista," His smile crinkled his eyes. She really was a cute thing. "Well your are in luck as I see in the distance something to your description. If you would follow me? I would make sure all is well if we follow the course." He gestured for her to go first before quickly coming next to her keeping pace. He only hoped he would make it out safely without being attacked by not only her family but her pack members. " It is just up ahead."

Kallista's tail was wiggling so hard that she nearly fell on her bum. Finally! Finally she would be going home and mister Dief would be the one to do it! "Omgosh yay! Dis is wunderful mister Dief!" Kalli moved forward a little bit before really moving as Diefenbaker knew which way to go after all. They had been walking for sometime when a particular scent waffated through the air; a familiar air. "Home! I smell home!" She yipped out while bouncing and picking up speed.

Inwardly he sighed with relief. He had made the right decision and soon the little one would be home with her family. "There we are miss Kallista. Home at last and I hope you are more careful when you wander off. You were very lucky this time." He watched as she paused in her haste to get home to turn and look at him with soulful eyes. Her words of spoke true as she promised to be more careful next time. "I hope there isn't a next time-" He frowned to show the seriousness of what could happen but winked to show a little compassion. "Well go on then I will wait here and watch you go. I have a feeling I wouldn't be welcomed that much."
Dief watched as she made her way over the ridge and near the huge animal bone. She gave one last cheerful wave goodbye before disappearing onto her lands. A job well done, a job well done indeed. He smiled happily and turned around to wander home.
END.
