It was a typical gorgeous day in the edges of the swamp, bugs circled in the air, their lazy buzzing like a drunken song. Birds added to the melody, sweeter notes floating over a gravelly base.
Golden sunlight slipped between the leaves, piercing his eyes every few seconds and leaving behind a streak of mesmerizing sparkles across his vision.
Just like her.. He thought,
She passed through, making everything dazzle, and now that she is gone all I can see is a weak reflection, a pathetic echo of what could be. That will all change soon, she will be mine.
Dune kept stalking his prey, slowly and seductively. He could tell she had passed through here recently, the twigs bent by careful hooves. Not to mention he could hear more footsteps not too far ahead of him. The faint scent of her still clung stubbornly to the air, exactly the same as that fateful day...

User Image Just a nice little walk, that was all that she had desired. Perhaps a quick dip in a pond? Yes! That sounded even better! Webweave was weaving in and out of trees on her way towards her favorite pond. That pond was always full of birds and frogs and other little critters to watch. Today was a very warm day, and at first she had just wanted to stretch her legs, but now that she thought about it, a swim would be much more relaxing!

Her footsteps fell quietly and her tail flicked back and forth calmly, her ears were trained forwards, the way she was going, to keep herself informed of what she was walking into. As far as she knew, she was alone apart from the little things that like to scurry and climb and glide, and in this mind-frame of heat-induced laziness, the doe strode upto the edge of the water and slowly walked out into the liquid to cool off. Stopping with the water at chest-level, she swished her tail back and forth, splashing water up over her back. "Ahhhhh...."

Dune's light steps drew him effortlessly to the small clearing where the pond was located. A small smile graced him as he spotted the doe again. He was struck anew by the way she looked, her colorings were so rare, and so beautiful. The swirls drew his eyes in, and held them there.
He managed to tear his mind off of the sordid thoughts that it was captivated by, and instead turned his attention to what the doe was actually doing. The subject shift did little to clear his mind of... untasteful... thoughts. She appeared to be bathing in the cool waters of the pond. The sun shone off the little ripples like gems. The almost subliminal sounds of woodland creatures created a nice backdrop.

He took a few scant steps and his front hooves entered the shallows, small splashes fled his movements.
You look most ravishing surrounded by still waters and kissed by the sun.

The doe had been happily splashing water all over herself, eyes closed and head tilted towards the sky, bathing in the sun as much as the rest of her was bathing in the cooling waters of the pond. But it all ended much too suddenly. She was interrupted first by two soft splashes off to one side, and then by a voice from the same direction. A very soft voice... one that seemed vaguely familiar... Her head turned towards it and she slowly pried her eyes open to find herself looking at the sandy buck that had so rudely rolled into her not too long ago. Instead of replying to his obvious compliment, she scanned around for signs of anyone else...

User Image Oh, what a pretty doe she was! Such a beautiful golden coat swimming with strands of black and blue as bright as the sky! Soon.... yes soon.... I will have her, soon... These were the thoughts that crowded his mind, and have been doing so for several days now, ever since that fateful meeting. Sure, it had not been an ideal way to meet a gorgeous doe, but he was sure this time it would be better, he was sure that this time he would impress her. After all, since the last time she'd seen him, he had grown tall and even more handsome as his dark markings brought out his golden eyes. He was no longer the colt she had seen before, he was a striking young buck, ready for the world and ready to present himself to the female he had been following for the last few days.

What he wasn't ready for was the scene that unfolded before him. Just as he was about to step out of the tall grasses and fell the doe with his attractiveness, out steps the stupid sand-buck that had been his competition last time! He groaned quietly, but decided that this would not ruin his chances. Straightening up, head held high, the dashing young buck stepped forwards, as silent as ever and took a step into the shallows on the doe's opposite side and offered his own opening line. "A finer beauty has never graced Mother Swamp, dearest of does. Your presence is a gift from above, and I am glad to be here in it. My name is None-Left." He bent a leg and bowed his head in a noble gesture of greeting, trying his hardest to ignore the sand-buck across the pond.

Ah! Her head turned to look at the second speaker, and she was not disappointed. As she had suspected, this other was not far from the tan buck. She had met them before, well, in truth, they tumbled into her once before, several days ago. She politely nodded at None-Left and took a moment to look him over, trying to figure out what was so different about him.

YOU!
Dune blurted without thinking. Of course! Perfect! That stupid gangly-legged, colt-brained moron had followed him. Probably in hopes of stealing his woman.
A flash of rage was quickly followed by a bone-deep weariness. When would this buck leave him alone?
Wait.. buck? Yes, upon further inspection Dune noticed that the other male had indeed grew. Not that it entirely mattered, he was still obviously the more attractive and superior male here. With that thought his confidence returned full-force.
Pay no attention to 'No-Brain-Left' Dune said, intentionally mutilating the other buck's name. My name is Dune. We should leave this confused youth to his own thought of catching fish and splashing like an infant. Have you ever seen the sun set in the desert? It is almost as striking as you are. I could show you, I know the perfect place.
He propositioned the doe, hoping only to leave his nemesis behind and get her to a more secluded location where they could speak in private.

The doe went from looking at the handsome green and black buck, who's name was apparently None-Left, and looked over the other way at the equally handsome tan buck, apparently named Dune. Here we go again... Her gaze wandered back over to the water in front of her and she rolled her eyes at the bickering males. But a cruel thought came over her and she simply continued to swish her tail back and forth, closing her eyes once more to indulge in the cooling water, with a grin on her face.

None-Left simply growled lightly and glared at the sand-buck from across the water. How dared he? The impotent sandhill stood there all full of himself and proposed such unthinkable acts! This doe was not for the taking by anyone other than himself, so why did this dolt demand to impose himself on None-Left's territory?

Raving mad, None-Left was trying very hard not to let it show, apart from the adamant glares and growls, of course, those were inevitable in such a case.

The doe was enjoying the attention, and instead of resolving the issue, she figured that she would encourage this behaviour instead, and see just how far these bucks were willing to go do gain her attention.

"For now... I have not finished cooling off. Though I suppose that if I could be convinced.... I just might leave this quenching pool to do something else."

Dune's eye twitched slightly as he eyed the other male. His mind whirled, searching desperately for a plan that could vanquish his foe. Everything that came to mind involved violence, and sadly, Dune did not think that violence was going to save him this time... This doe had already witnessed him in action, and she had not seemed impressed. Actually, when he thought about it, she had simply left! He was deep in thoughts, a scowl marring his features, when he heard the crackle of branches and some erratic chirping.

Mimic had been following the Goddess for many moons now. She was hoping that she would catch the celestial being returning to her home in the sky. Mimic was to be sorely disappointed over the next few days. This Goddess acted frustratingly like any other mortal, eating, sleeping, bathing and doing other mundane things. However, the more Mimic followed, the more she began to believe that she was a Goddess as well.
For she is the sun, her brilliance lighting the swamp. While I am obviously the night sky incarnate, doomed to follow in my sister's footsteps, slinking in the shadows.
As time went by Mimic continued to stalk, completely believing that she was a Goddess following her sister.
Spasm however, did not remember this doe in such a positive light. In fact it had been down-right annoying trying to get him to behave these past few days. There were multiple times where he had almost succumbed to his half-remembered rage and attacked. Today however, at the pond, is where he finally snapped.
Mimic had stepped lightly into the pond, directly opposite of the doe, and had promptly began bathing. At the same time Spasm released a battle-shriek and launched himself once more at the doe.

The bunny-kimeti's mind was whirring just as hard as it looked like the sand-buck's, who's name was apparently Dune. Glaring at the other, nothing came across his mind except the fight that had ensued last time when the doe had simply walked away from them. What am I going to do to impress this doe? She's seen us before and had walked away, so thus I need to be even more impressive than usual! She took a half-step towards the golden doe and was about to speak when he was cut off by commotion from his right. When he looked over, his eyes landed on the coat of a doe that was pitch black broken by a bright shining blue, almost as bright as her glowing eyes. He was caught staring at her, that is until there was movement to his left again. The golden doe was flailing about in the water. Now why....?

As she gave the boys a moment to mull over their thoughts and come up with a ploy to gain her attention, Webweave could hear distant commotion coming from across the pond. When she opened her eyes to see what it was her ears were bombarded by shrill shrieking and once again a feathery projectile made straight for her face. She had time to think Not again! before the stupid thing made contact.
This time she kept her eyes open, allowed it to peck and scratch at the rest of her face until she could make her move. Standing still, boiling with rage, the golden doe deftly made a snatch for the bird, catching it, dunking it under the water for a moment before she turned around and paced back to drier ground. She placed the bird down and growled at it, "I have taken your flight for your undeniable stupidity. Perhaps you will learn from your actions this time, avian." And with that, she waded back into the water, this time to wash off the trickles of blood and clean the small scratches.

Dune saw his lady being attacked by a small emerald bird and confusion clouded him. He was vaguely aware of another doe, as dark as his beloved was light. His mind skipped over her presence, diverting his attention to his lady in distress. He galloped forwards at full speed, completely ready to save her from this insane songbird. Apparently his lady needed no saving, for she deftly plucked the bird from the air and dispatched it just as easily. Shock slid through him, followed by a warm and pleased feeling. He liked a woman who could take care of herself. He took the last few steps over to the golden doe, just to make sure she was truly alright, when the other doe began to speak.

Sister! Spasm is right to punish you. You are a treasonous harpy, your words nothing more then poisonous lies. You led me to believe I was a mere mortal, made me to cower in fear while you held the truth from me. Yes, you may be the Goddess of Day, but I am obviously the Night and your sister. I am your equal in every way, and yet we are opposites. I am Midnight's Moon, and you, are a traitor!
Mimic yelled this from the opposite shore, wading lightly into the water. Her ire was splashed plainly across her face. Her anger terrible and beautiful. Her body disturbed the water and caused small waves to radiate from her. She waded until she was almost halfway to the middle, she stopped only when the water threatened to run across her back.

Spasm was shaking the water from his feathers slowly. He was water-logged and not pleased about it. Not to mention blood was leaking from the talon that she had gripped. He stared down at his tiny body, noting any other damages as he continued to shake the water from his feathers. When he was light enough he flew a clumsy path to his master and landed lightly on her shoulder in a show of support.

None-Left managed to look left just as the golden doe snatched up a bird mid-air and dunked it under water in one fluid movement! His first thought was that she was so graceful, but the next one was much less flattering. How could such a beautiful thing take the chance of harming, if not killing something as graceful as a songbird? Just as he was about to valiantly leap to the yellow doe's rescue, too. No, something didn't sit right. None-Left was having doubts about the yellow doe, which was weird to say the least. Of course, he wouldn't reject her company, but he didn't think he wanted to pursue her any more... At least, not to the point of having to vie with the sand-bag to get to her...

The dark doe interrupted, and after her spiel, or more correctly, her rant, None-Left found himself captivated anew. He took a few paces towards the dark doe, self-proclaimed Midnight Moon, but he dared not speak, unsure of what was about to unfold.

By the time she finished washing her face, the dark doe had begun to speak, and that doe was all that she could see and hear. Truthfully, she could see the bucks out of the corners of her eyes, but she paid them no heed. Dune was now closer to her, but she currently had no interest in the role he was playing, the doe had taken first place in her mind.

As she listened, she grew more and more enraged. She had called her a harpy! And accused her of treason! How dare she! Out loud, she proclaimed across the pond, beginning with a step forward, "How dare you accuse me of such things! I spoke nothing but the truth when we met last. It is no one's fault but your very own that you did not realize whom you really are! Just your own, you dark old hag. And your little bird should be grateful that I did not harm him any further, merely douse him in a shower of my mercy, in the form of a bath." Her breathing had gotten harder as she ranted and raved at the lunatic across from her.

Dune stared between the two females, confusion and rage settling over him. This new doe was foolishly proclaiming herself a Goddess! And worse still, she had sent her mental minion to attack! This doe was obviously insane! He slide closer to the golden radience beside him, a sneer enrobing his face. He wished to show a united front. If this came to violence there was no way he was going to let this doe come to harm. And as for the claims of Goddesshood? Dune had no idea, but who ever, or whatever this doe was, all he knew was that he wanted to be with her.

A defiant laugh escaped Mimic's lips as anger still clouded her features.
You call that mercy sister? Taking a creature of your domain and momentarily stealing his ability to touch the sky? How far from grace you have truly fallen! Now that I am aware of my powers, there is no way you can even pretend to show me mercy, for as I said before we are equals. If you are to tormet me, then I shall tormet you. Turn about if fair play is it not?
A haughty laugh accompanied her words. The vengeful Doe's pride was her own, every tick mirrored by the true mimic. Mimic noticed the digust that flit across None-Left's face and saw him as an ally. Perhaps this showdown would be a fair one regardless?
You there, brother of the creatures of ground, will you stand by your crazed sun Goddess, or side with the righteous?
Her glowing eye's locked on None-Left's own, her head tilted in question. She however, stayed where she was, for wading in deeper would subject Spasm to the horrible water again.
The wind, almost sensing the tension in the clearing, began to twirl throughout. Harmless ghost fingers tugging at everyones fur.

None-Left had no idea what was going on at this point. He knew that these two does were arguing over.... something... He heard something about Goddess of Day and Goddess of Night... but he wasn't really following the conversation. All he could focus on was that the golden doe had somehow managed to make herself less attractive to his eyes. His tumultuous thoughts were interrupted by a call to him from the midnight doe.

His ears jerked in her direction, and he turned to look at her. A nod, and a few more paces to bring himself to her side, he says to her, "I will stand by you, Midnight Doe, but I urge us to leave before this situation gets any more out of control. I fear there is insanity in the air tonight, and it is making me jittery." He stopped there, his nose was quivering and all of his senses were on high alert. The wind had picked up and all of this ire was setting him on edge. He'd much rather leave this place with the beautiful dark doe and never catch sight of the sand buck again. He had had enough of him, and enough of fighting with him. It was all nonsense anyway, he knew that one on one with the golden doe, she would have been his, but he had a bad feeling creeping up, and was intending on leaving this scene behind.

Webweave noticed that the sandy buck, Dune was it? Yes, yes that sounded right. Dune had come closer, presumably to save her from the little devil-bird. But as the argument escalated, he stayed by her side, with a look on his face that she could only assume was disgust at the other doe and her rash actions. She took a half-pace closer to the buck, seeing as the other one obviously favored the crazy half-wit across from her. She had chosen, and that was that. If there were to be sides, she was glad they were now illuminated simply.

She felt like raging insults across the water, leaping in to attack the opposite doe, tearing her limb from limb for all the trouble that she had caused. Were it not for her, she would have had two bucks to herself! To toy with and tease, but now it was decided. Instead, she yelled across the waters angrily, "You are no better, Dark Soul, sending your minion across to will your anger upon my body. Had you not sent him forwards in the first place, he would not have been momentarily relinquished of his flight. He got what he deserved, and I should show you what you deserve, but the Green One is right. Something is amiss, and I will merely take my leave instead of indulging your crazed bloodlust. This can be settled another day, or night if you wish to have your own way."

With that, she began turning away, wishing to get away from this madness, wanting to leave before she could not restrain herself from hurling her body at the neck of the other doe.

A snarl leaked from Dune's maw, low and grating. He saw None-Left siding with the crazy-a** doe, and he mentally rolled his eyes.
Of course that spazz would side with the most mentally unstable doe in the swamp. It made perfect sense, crazy attracted desperate. Well if he leaves with her, I might never see him again, maybe she'll eat him.
That thought pleased Dune to no end. He noticed the doe to his side beginning to walk away and he gladly turned to match her. He would follow this ones to the ends of the Earth, that much was guaranteed.
So, my love, one day you must explain to me this whole Goddess thing.
As he looked her over a smile slid across his face, he could definitely see someone mistaking her for a Goddess.

None-Left's visible display of loyalty was as comforting as his words. While Mimic would like nothing more then to summon her divine wrath to destroy her sister. She wanted to beat her until she was nothing but a speck on the ground of mother swamp, doomed to never return to the sky. However, her consort was making sense. She turned and headed for the shore, but could not resist one more parting shot.
Spasm attacked of his own free will, I held no compulsion over him. If he attacked his own Goddess, then it was because he could sense the despicable creature you had become.
She turned and kept walking, her shoulder lightly brushing None-Left's as she murmured to him.
Lead on my noble consort, take us where the wind blows.
