No matter how cute the Meadowview uniform looked, it was certainly not designed with bad weather in mind. Actually, Alessa’s coat wasn’t designed for hail, either.
No hood, no umbrella, short skirt, no boots. The brunette ran through the gate inside the school building as fast as she went out, a few seconds ago. Now drenched and her mass of hair already starting to curl, she decided to wait a bit longer inside, until the horrid weather got less crappy. Winter wasn’t all rainbow and sunshine, no matter how you looked at it. The usual snowfall was less difficult to endure, and much more poetic. Plus, that hail hurt like hell.
Glancing from time to time through the windows, Alessa put her glasses on (she had enough common sense to remove them during bad weather) and wandered aimlessly around the hall. All her friends seemed to be gone already. Serves her well for leaving her umbrella home.

The weather had been horrible today, but at least Yvette had been able to secure some sort of hooded jacket to keep her head warm and a bit drier when she was outside. She had no umbrella though. Her jacket had managed to pad her somewhat against the hail, but it still stung slightly when a small chunk beat down upon her. So rather than wait at the bus stop while the chunks of ice beat her senseless, she waited inside the school, waiting til it was closer to the time that she needed to get to the bus.

The dark-haired girl stood there, right in front of one of the many exits to the school, her deep purple eyes looking at the hail as it fell to the earth, with a hint of fear to her gaze. She had 15 minutes to get to her bus stop. She'd probably leave in about ten minutes. The weather was so loud outside, that the new girl could hardly hear as someone began to walk in her direction.

Well, at least, there was someone to do small talk with for the time being. She looked silly, with her drenched hair turning into even more of a poofy, curly mass, dripping on her shoulders. “The weather forecast didn’t say anything about hail this morning, I wish they did!”
Starting the obvious about the weather was a pretty good and universal conversation starter, after all.
“It better not last too long... I have to walk a good quarter to get home” she said with a hopeful smile.

Yvette easily spooked. Especially when surprised. Fortunately, she was such a quiet girl, that when she spooked, she didn't freak out in an obnoxiously loud fashion. Instead, she literally squeaked with a slight jump.

Quickly, she spun herself around to face the one who approached, and found a relatively soaked girl. "Uh, um... y-y-yeah! I-it would have been good to know!" She spoke relatively fast, and it was strictly due to being flustered. The girl paused and took a few deep breaths, trying to calm her nerves before offering a sincere "I-i'm sorry, but, you kinda surprised me!"

She continued with another few deep breaths, listening to this girl's dilemma carefully, despite the pounding sensation in her head. The new girl's mouth frowned sympathetically. "I hope so! You could get sick, or seriously injured in weather like this!" Seeming quite concerned, she pointed towards the bus stop and mentioned "I'm waiting for the city bus. I'm sure you could take it and at least cut down part of your walk!"

The other student didn’t expect to surprise – no, scare – the girl like this. For an instant, both had the very same horrified expression. “Eeeeeep! I’m sorry, I thought you’d heard me!” whimpered Alessa before calming down too. Man, that scared girl really scared her. If that makes any sense.
“Huh… yeah. I’ve seen hailstones the size of a ping-pong ball, these can break windows easily if they’re at the right angle.” Fortunately, this particular case was nowhere as serious, but it still fell hard and loudly. So loud she thought it was the entire reason why she didn’t hear the student’s voice all that well. Yvette’s advice didn’t really help her, as she explained dully: “It would be nice, but that won’t do. I’ve checked twice since I moved here, and the bus goes right in the opposite direction. I’ve tried, and it takes me twice as long because there’s no bus stop close to home.” It was still a nice suggestion, and she smiled again. “But thanks for the advice! I’m Alessa. What’s your name?”

The girl's tiny lips frowned again as her advice turned out unhelpful. If there was one thing that the dark-haired girl liked to be, it was helpful.

"S-sorry," she offered as a result. "Oh, and I'm Yvette. I'm kinda new to the school..." Shyly, her eyes fell from the girl's face to the floor. Her eyes always seemed to feel so heavy when her cheeks began to feel like they were burning. She shuffled her feet slightly before once again attempting to look outside. The girl was not looking forward to running to the bus stop.

Alessa turned out to be pretty much the same way. “You’re new? Then I can show you around! It’s a bit scary being alone in a new school like that, I know what it’s like.” Enthusiastically, she was already walking away from the exit to get deeper inside the building. “You already know where’s the exit, that’s a good start!” Poor Yvette looked so shy… it must be hard for her to have to adjust right in the middle of the schoolyear. The brunette was luckier in that regard, as she'd only lost a few days during the first month. Actually, she hadn't even memorized the whole map yet.

"Oh, um... thanks... b-but..." the girl started. "I just need to make certain I'm at my bus stop in about..." she paused and looked over her watch upon her slim wrist. "7 minutes!"

It wasn't much time to get a tour, but any sort of company for those seven minutes was better than nothing. In an effort to catch up to Alessa, she jogged up to her side. Only once she was at the soggy girl did she slow her pace back to normal walking. Her deep purple eyes seemed to be content with gazing at the floor in front of her feet, but her voice eventually ventured into asking "So, um... Alessa, what sorts of things do you like to do at school?" It was a polite and simple conversation starter, but as always, Yvette's voice had managed to make it seem shy due to how quiet it was asked.

Alessa looked down to take a look at her watch, which was quite useless and redundant. “Oh, okay. That won’t do today, but maybe another time, if you still feel like it.”
She attributed Yvette’s behaviour to shyness, and that amused her as she never quite considered herself as scary or impressive. She couldn’t help but giggle softly, hiding her mouth behind a hand. “Hah, well, PE is alright, it involves lots of running most of the time. I jog a lot, you know!” Childishly, she made small jumps, alternating the right feet with the left. “And errr I don’t do anything special at school. Whenever I can, I go watch movies and stuff. And I play with kids sometimes. I love them!” She stopped jumping in place, she’d better keep her energy for when she will have to go home. “Enough of me! How about you?”

Yvette was a very honest girl, so when she said in her tiny voice "I would like that!" it was obvious she really meant it. Despite how shy the dark haired girl was, she also was quite polite, her eyes looking into Alessa's dark ones attentively while she spoke. Every so often, her head nodded, to signal that she had caught what the other student had said. For a moment, she couldn't help but wonder if the curly haired girl was part of the track team or something of the like. Though, she quickly booted the idea from her mind, since if Alessa was on the track team, she probably would have mentioned that instead of P.E.

"Kids? Do you babysit a lot, or work at a daycare?" Movies were a pretty common hobby amongst teenagers, but playing with kids was a bit unusual.

At the prompting, she blushed slightly, but nodded her head before beginning to talk about herself. "Oh... well, I um... I draw... b-but I'm not really all that good... and I like t-to sew as well..." Her voice dwindled, since that was pretty much all she liked to do, whether in school or outside of school.

Shyly, she added "I'm not all that exciting..."

“I’m a part time babysitter, but I’m not getting a lot of work lately”, confessed Alessa. That also meant her pocket money was scarcer, incidentally, and she had to keep an eye on her expenses.
The brunette was clearly more excited about Yvette’s hobbies than she was? “You can sew? Lucky you! I can fix small holes roughly or sew buttons, but that’s it.” There were many other typically feminine things the girl still wanted to learn, but she was only learning slowly due to the absence of her mother and her general lack of skills.
Nobody yet in this school had broken Alessa’s heart like Yvette did. So shy, so little confidence. And it just was so bizarre to deal with someone who claimed to be more boring than she was. She could make stuff! All that the young Miss David could do was cooking a typical lunch. She couldn’t help but react and encourage her. “Aww, come on, you’re not boring! You can’t just claim you’re not exciting, and not tell me what you can do…”
She almost wanted to hug the girl at this point, but it was uncalled for. Besides, now taking a good look at her, she wondered how old she was. It could get awkward if she weren’t as young as she had first assumed. “Do you make, like, plushies, or something?”
PostPosted: Wed Feb 03, 2010 1:12 pm

Alessa knew what buttons to hit on Yvette. The moment she started to gush over the fact that Yvette could sew, that slight blush grew brighter. In fact, the dark-haired girl's face was practically glowing with all the blushing she was doing. The color of her cheeks also seemed to have an affect upon the shy girl's speech.

"I... I um... uh... I uhhhh..."

Her eyes shot down to the ground, simply out of shy habit, and her fingers clenched slightly against the edges of her skirt. She closed her eyes and took a couple of deep breaths to calm herself, and for a moment, she remained absolutely silent. Compliments, no matter how small, seemed to cause the new student to go into a minor panic attack.

When she attempted to find her voice again, she started off with a simple "No." This answered the question of the plushies. "I s-sew clothing..." Mostly out of necessity, since it was cheaper to buy the materials to make an outfit than to buy the outfit in a shop. Certainly, she did get creative with what she wore, but it was still a fact the whole reason she started was from the need to make expenses smaller in her household.

After her tiny explanation, her eyes wandered up again to meet with Alessa's glasses.

Being stared at prompted Alessa to blush and readjust her glasses again without even thinking about it. She wasn’t certain how to deal with that level of shyness. Well, there was one way. “I-I don’t bite, you know, I’m pretty harmless…”
Her very brief stuttering betrayed her own uneasiness. It was funny how stress could be contagious. “Clothings? Whoa, do you sew outfits for your own use?” she asked, genuinely interested but hesitant.

She put her hands behind her back apologetically. Yvette’s voice was so faint it was hard to hear it over the hail. Perhaps she was being too pushy. “Y’know, if you don’t want to talk, that’s fine with me. Don’t feel obligated to answer.”
The sound of the hail knocking on the windows and walls diminished suddenly.
PostPosted: Wed Feb 03, 2010 5:33 pm

In a flustered moment, the girl let out her tiny version of an outburst, crying out (in a tiny voice) "No, no, no! I like talking!" She waved her hands out in front of her, almost in an apologetic and frantic fashion. "I, I'm just... I'm n-not very good at talking about myself."

The momentary burst of energy passed, which left the dark-haired girl looking slightly wilted. "And I kinda have to sew my own outfits..."

For another moment, the only sound that could be heard was that of the hail pounding against the building and the ground outside. Yvette normally didn't tell people about that last bit. Trying to put on a strong face (though it seemed a bit out of place on her gentle features), the girl looked back to the curly haired student. "I g-guess I should head out t-to my bus." Her determination only lasted for about a few seconds as she approached the exit, standing in front of the door and looking out.

Oh how Yvette did not want to go out there. She was going to die by being pelted to death by ice.

"I guess I'll see you later, Alessa?" she sighed out, not seeming very confident about living past this experience with the hail.

“It’s okay” replied Alessa, waving her hands in return. More often than not, it was funny to note how the schoolgirl, in her extreme desire not to contradict anyone, could mimic their gestures. The copying seldom took place on a conscious level, and today, it still wasn’t the case. Even when she replied this to Yvette: “You’re going now? Let’s do it together then. Doesn’t sound like it’s hailing so hard now.”

The brunette put her glasses back in their case, shoved into her coat’s pocket. Without them, she was pretty much blind beyond a few meters. She approached the door as well, ready to hold it for her purple-haired new friend, and run.
