When his masters came back with tales of a "New world", he had thought that maybe it was God's sign for him to finally do something for Him. He had enjoyed his ordinary life back home, but he had always prayed for a new purpose... And it came! One night, he stowed away on a ship bound for this "New world" and although there were times where the going was tough and he suffered greatly, he held out and survived to reach the wonderful new land.
Of course, he knew that this land is foreign to him - they don't share the same beliefs as his homeland back in Europe and from his most recent observation, they certainly don't speak the same language. Since his arrival a week ago, he had yet to make contact with another mare or stallion despite having seen several humans at the edge of the forest near the coast... Why, even the humans here looks different from his masters back in Europe! Once, he found several houses within a fence - probably a village - but there were no signs of his own kind.
He had been traveling between the coast and the nearby forest; he didn't feel like it was time to travel further inland yet... A voice in his heart kept whispering 'Not yet, wait.' All he could do was obey and pray for the right time to arrive soon; he was just a little anxious to start his journey, but he knew that he had to be patient. However, it was cold, especially at night, but the snow had only just begun to show signs of melting. It wasn't winter anymore, but it wasn't spring just yet.
Looking up at the moon, he shivered as the cold wind blew past. Sitting down, he closed his eyes and begun to mutter a soft prayer; let his waiting end soon. He had been patient enough.

Grace sighed to herself as she trotted through the forest to the beach; she had an urge to visit the place since earlier, but had only given in to her urge now. Her usual cheerful disposition was absent; although her friend Rotom had promised to meet up in Autumn to visit the mountains with her, he didn't show up... She had waited and waited, but she finally stopped waiting after some of the trees became bald. Had he forgotten? Despite her disappointment and sadness, she hoped that nothing bad had happened to her dear friend; it would be terrible if he couldn't meet her because of some trouble!
Another sigh escaped her lips as she tried to shake the unhappy thoughts from her mind by thinking of reasons why she had the urge to visit the beach... After all, she didn't have any pleasant memories at that place. Her first visit left her terrified; someone had lied to her, and said that the ocean would swallow her homeland whole soon when in case, something like that would take millions of years to happen.
Although she would love to continue to be optimistic after Rotom's 'disappearing act', she found herself feeling more sad than happy most of the time... Maybe this trip and change of surroundings would help her clear her mind and smile naturally again! Forcing a smile for her own sake, Grace ducked under a low branch and continued on her way; she could already hear the distant sound of the waves crashing on the shore...

Deusdedit's prayer came to an end, and as he was about to walk away, he could hear hoofsteps in the distance, coming closer and closer and closer... There! His eyes widened as he saw a brightly colored mare trotting in his direction. She seemed distracted, and from her expression, upset; could this be the thing - or in this case, person - that he had been waiting for? Perhaps she was to be his guide?
"Good evening, madam," He gave a small smile as he approached the stranger, bowing his head in a form of greeting. Now that he was nearer to the female, he realized that they were in fact, the same species! It must be God's doing, for his first encounter in this 'New world' to be with one that is of the same kind! How wonderful! His smile widened just a little as he became even more excited, "May I be talking to a native of this land? I am Deusdedit, but for your own convenience, you may call me Deus."

She jumped as a sound rang out in the tranquil forest, but quickly relaxed when she realized that it was only another usdia, one with a pelt that looked like the sky on a clear night. In an attempt to be polite despite her own negative emotions, she returned his smile and nodded her head as a sign of acknowledgment. However, she soon realized that she could not understand a word that he was saying; it sounded so much like... A foreign language?
"Um... I... I don't understand you," She finally replied with a slight frown; why was this happening right now, just as her spirits were down? Looking rather flustered and confused, she finally forced another smile, hoping he would understand that she was not being rude... She simply didn't understand him.

He blinked as the mare said something... Well, something because he had no idea what she was trying to say. Frowning, he realized that the language barrier was not only between the humans of this land and his own - the local horses probably didn't know how to speak his language! How was he supposed to spread the greatness of his God if nobody could understand him? Wait... Maybe...
Was that why he needed to wait? God had planned for him to meet a guide... Perhaps this usdia could teach him her language slowly? He nodded at the female to show that he understood her difficulty, that she didn't understand him. It was also a sign to tell her that he didn't understand her either.
"Deus," He said, gesturing to himself by using a nod, "Deus."

"Deus?" She echoed, tilting her head to a side with a puzzled expression; what was he trying to say? When she saw him gesturing to himself, however, she immediately understood him. Giving a nod, she relaxed a little and smiled before gesturing to herself the same way the foreign usdia had done, "Grace." She felt a sense of achievement; who could have thought that a trip to the beach would end up being so eventful?
Pausing, she wondered if the male had a place to stay for the night. In fact, how long had he been here? All alone in a foreign land... He must be so confused and lonely!
"Shelter?" She questioned, trotting over to a nearby tree before sitting down, pretending to sleep. Opening her eyes a second later, she looked up at Deus and stood up, walking over to him before repeating herself, "Shelter?"
She could only hope that he understands...

A small smile made its way to his lips when he realized that she understood what he was trying to convey to her; the night was going as well as he had hoped! This must be God's great work! The celestial pelted stallion couldn't see another reason why everything was going swimmingly; his patience had paid off after all! Giving a nod as an acknowledgment of her name, he repeated after her, "Grace."
However, when she continued talking and uttered another word, his smile changed to yet another frown. He could only put on a confused expression as he followed her movement, looking lost when she appeared to rest under the same tree he had been praying under a little earlier. What was she up to?
When she looked at him and said the same word again, he could only shake his head to show that he did not understand; did she meant sleep? Maybe rest? Maybe sit? He quietly prayed for some insight, hoping to understand his new acquaintance.

Grace looked a little horrified at his answer; he didn't have a shelter to sleep in? That's terrible, especially in low temperatures such as this! After all, it is still technically winter, despite it being a littler warmer in the day. Giving him a gentle nudge, she trotted a few steps towards the direction that she had came from. Stopping, she looked back at him and nodded, before trotting a few steps again.
"Follow," She tried to explain as she repeated her actions with a concerned look on her features. Giving an encouraging nod, she repeated, "Follow."

Was that... Sympathy that flashed in her eyes just a moment ago? Deus paused, wondering what she was thinking of and how he should react. At the nudge, however, he jumped backwards out of both surprise and instinct; he wasn't used to the feeling of being touched by someone else. He had always felt awkward; while other of his kind back home allowed the human children to ride on their backs and pat him, he was always by himself in a corner away from the crowd.
Then again, maybe that's why he could hear the world of God and they couldn't.
However, it seems that things weren't going as smoothly as he had hoped; she was trying to tell him something... But what? As she trotted and kept looking back, it suddenly struck him - she wanted him to follow him, probably to somewhere safe where he would be able to spend the night without worries! Maybe that was why she had pretended to sleep just now! She was asking if he had a shelter!
"Deus follow," He replied, rather glad that he had solved the 'mystery'. At least he had learned one word so far! Maybe God was there after all!

"Follow!" Grace exclaimed excitedly as she nodded at Deus, relieved that she finally got through him. She was starting to think that she would have to spend the night out in the cold just to look after the usdia stallion and show him around when day breaks. She smiled to herself as she trotted deeper into the forest, back to where home was while turning her head around to make sure that he was following every now and then.
As she neared her home, questions regarding Deusdedit began to flood her mind. Where was he from? How long had he been here? Why did he choose to come to a foreign land, so far from wherever his home might be? Was he forced to come here? If so, for what reason? It was tough having a language barrier between them... She wondered if he was curious about her too. After all, coming to a place with a different culture... There must be so much to learn!
Soon, a familiar looking and smelling tree came into view. It was a huge, magnificent tree with thick roots and a thick trunk. At its foot, there was an entrance marked by intertwining roots - upon entering, one could find a space huge enough to accommodate a full grown stallion. As for housing two usdias... Well, there was plenty of space left over.
"Home!" Grace giggled; being in a place where she is most familiar with relaxed her. Turning to Deus, she trotted one round around her home before stopping at a spot furthest away from the entrance. She then patted the space beside her with a hoof, gesturing for the stallion to join her.

He followed the mare through the forest, intrigued by the sight of the massive trees and the smell of various plants, even if most of them were covered with snow. This was something absent from his home in the town - he had never seen trees this tall, much less a forest filled with such trees! This was something new to him; when he stayed close to the beach, the smells and sights of the forest was different. Now that he was actually deeper in the forest, it was really like... Being in a 'New world'.
When Grace stopped and entered something that resembled a cave under the biggest tree he had ever seen, the male said a silent prayer and promptly followed. To his surprise, it was a shelter! Back home, he lived in a stable with several others, and it was warm and dry regardless of the season. It wasn't always comfortable, but it was home.
Now, here is a home of a different kind.
He could smell Grace's scent in this cave, and it soon became clear that this was her home. Looking around, he found himself relaxing; there was a sort of homely, welcoming aura that was absent in his stable - no puns intended - home back in Europe. His eyes then landed on Grace, and noticing her gesture, nodded before trotting to stand beside her. Immediately, he noticed that her scent was even stronger... Was it her favorite resting spot?
He turned, opening his mouth to ask. He closed it almost immediately after - there was still the language barrier.

"Sleep?" She smiled warmly at him before letting out a surprisingly well-timed yawn. Looking rather surprised at herself, Grace giggled before closing her eyes; it had been quite a tiring day - a simple trip to the beach to help clam her nerves turned out to be so much more! Perhaps this was what they called fate? After all, the arrival of Deus did help her to forget the disappointment and sadness; she was so busy trying to communicate that she didn't have time to feel unhappy!
Chuckling softly to herself at this fact, she opened her eyes before yawning again. Looking at Deus with half-opened eyes, she repeated herself, "Sleep?"

When the mare said another word, the male watched as she closed her eyes, yawned, opened her eyes and yawned again. He nodded slowly; was she telling him to sleep? But he really wasn't feeling that tired right now- Letting out a yawn, he allowed a soft chuckle to escape his lips; maybe he was more tired than he had allowed himself to believe. Grace's warm, dry home invited him to sleep as well and the male didn't see a reason to struggle... The constantly rocking ship and the cold, windy land after had caused him several hours of sleep.
This would be the first time in many weeks, since leading his homeland, that he could have a good night's sleep.
"Sleep." He replied in his foreign accept, returning her smile with a small smile of his own. He was glad that she was hospitable toward a stranger like himself, glad that his first encounter would be with someone kind. He yawned again and closed his eyes... He could feel himself drifting off to dream land already. Thank God, seriously, thank God for such a good encounter.

"Sleep!" Grace nodded, beaming at the male; he got it! She allowed her eyelids to drop and made herself comfortable. Maybe starting tomorrow, she could teach him her language and he could teach her his. She had so many questions to ask! Maybe one day, she could visit his home as well; it would be like an adventure! Like when she made that promise with Rotom- When she thought of her friend, her heart quickly sunk; Deus might let her down too. She'd better not keep her hopes up.
Trying not to let him sense her change in mood, she remained in her standing position, both eyes closed and head bowed. Taking in a sharp breath and then forcing a small smile, she whispered so softly that she could be talking to the air.
"Good night, Deus."

Suddenly, he felt that there was something wrong with Grace. Opening an eye sleepily, he saw that her expression had changed, but only for a split second; did she recall something bad, maybe? Maybe there was another reason for them to meet... Deus paused, closing his one opened eye; there will be a time for everything. He trusts God to show him the way.
It was so soft that he'd almost missed it while being engrossed in his own thoughts, but he didn't; he might be tired but he was still rather alert. This time, he didn't need to spend time decoding what she was trying to convey to him. Instead, the meaning of those words were conveyed using her tone and of course, the situation they were in. Almost immediately, he smiled and replied her in his own language, "Good night, Grace."
