The chill air blew gently through the towers, keeping the watchman nice and cold and not even a chance to warm themselves up. Not even the cloaks given to them helped one bit. "Agh..I want a cup of coffee right about now.." one of the watchman muttered, breathing hot air into his chilled hands. He looked around, bored as always, knowing nothing of what was going on. A sudden shriek was heard and the guard looked up, locating where the source was coming from. The guard screamed, ducking down on the ground as some sort of bird suddenly dived toward him. He looked over, shaken a little then realized that it was bird. He stood up, immediately taking the note from the leg. The guard was in no position to read it, therefore, he simply took it and ran down the spiral stairs.

The silver knight has been quietly reading in his room as he had nothing else to do besides patrol the town. His duty this time was simply keep a watch around the castle. The cold winter breeze felt like needles against his skin, he kinda liked it because he was warm and the wind did not bother him where he sat. The book laid opened, cup of tea on the table next to him and a book in his hand. It was peaceful...so tranquil...so-

"C-Cyric! Captain Cyric!!" he screamed, fumbling against the carpet toward the captain's chambers. The door burst open and the soldier stood against the frame of the doorway, hands shaking and holding the note.

...So that...Cyric sighed, closing the book shut with a soft 'thump' and stood up. "Calm yourself, what is this all about..?" The guard didn't say anything, he simply handed the captain the note. Cyric sighed once more, unraveling the piece of paper and skimmed it.

Fort Vajeh is under attack. I've sent my squad back to the capital, and I will return as soon as I am sure the fort has fallen. I will give a detailed report at that time.

~ Felicia <3

Fort Vajeh is under attack? But how? Ezekiel's men should have stopped the enemy from advancing further in..had he fallen? No..that would be the worse case scenario..Cyric didn't want to think about it. He crumpled the paper in his hands, patting the guard on his shoulder and ordered him to return to his watch post.

The guard stared, then gazed at the steaming hot tea that on the counter. He was tempted....oh too tempted....he was cold...it was warm...He stepped forward, nearly reaching the cup until

"Leave it!" The captain shouted from down the hallway. The guard jumped and dashed out of Cyric's chambers and back to his post.

The flight of stairs did not help the captain's anxiety at the moment, course more of the privates had to get in his way as he made his way to the throne. "Move" Cyric commanded, shoving them out of the way as he entered the throne room unannounced.

"My liege" Cyric addressed, kneeling on one knee before his Majesty, head hanging down a bit. "I am afraid I bring troubling news.. Fort Vajeh has been invaded...the threat unknown.." He lifted his head, finding any sort of reaction from his king. "If..I may...allow me to deploy my troops, If the enemy are able to get by Ezekiel's men..then they are not to be trifled with"

My throne ends were a little chilly, being made of metal, it was always so. Although the room was heated, metal bears no special thought to heat unless exposed too much to warmth. I was thinking about the cool metal when Cyric entered the room, kneeling soon, and then mouthing news.

At this, the news, I found myself a bit troubled because it always serves more problems. Who was stationed at the fort... must have been some... lowly captain I didn't care about... I took a bit, thought on it, and had an eyebrow raised when Cyric's head rose. Lowering it, I took a grip on the throne.

Ezekiel.... I only heard at first. I tried to recall who he was, but nothing came to mind. My thoughts on Fort Vejah remained the same. That's when his request hit me. I could tell he wanted to, but it really wasn't a good idea.

"I will not allow you to; Ezekiel might have fallen for a trick. We don't know the details, so it's best not to waste unneeded effort." I said.

Not allowed..? Surely he jest. If this...unknown enemy somehow made it to the castle, then it would be over. If anybody was to find out who these people are it was going to have to be himself. "Please, my liege..reconsider. Allow me to go, I will not fall for such a petty trap. Should the enemy advance further toward the castle, it can bring us down" if someone else was to go, they would never make it out alive, and then they wouldn't get the news about who these invaders were and what their purpose was.

"Are you afraid, my lord...? Of course you are...you always had been" pondering in the back of his mind. Cyric's gaze did not leave the King's. This request was going to be granted and the paladin would prefer not to do it by force. "Consider your men...your army..They are your people who are sacrificing their lives to protect their own country and their King..Please, allow me to deploy my troops" Cyric asked once more, hoping he made much sense. If he didn't, continueing would be the only option.

Cyric couldn't let this be ignored, invaders as well as their friends and quite possibly family. The survivors, if there were any, had to be brought back. Situation was still unknown to the silver knight but all the better to find out for himself what they were up against.

"You are indeed one of my better men, Cyric," I began, "But do not believe such a force can bring down a castle. It was merely a fort." I knew he wanted to go, but I'm not going to let him. He's a good man, and I'd rather keep him alive and out of conflict. If the force is coming here, we can deal with it then.

"One fort can't amount to the kingdom's might, Cyric. You should know this and realize that you can take them on and make your king proud if and when they arrive. How do you know they're coming here? We can't wager time and possibly troops of something that might not be there. It's blistering cold out, and some men might not make the journey." Blizzards might strike. I'd rather not have any more men out necessary.

Anything that happened should be under control, and I won't have any part in it. If there was an attack, no one would be left alive, and it's pointless to think so. Cyric will not be departing under my command.

User ImageCornelius groaned to himself, pressing the heel of hand against his forehead. He was just heading back to the throne room to discuss something with his Majesty, when he noticed Cyric rush in unannounced. It wasn't something common for anyone to do, really; he decided to get closer to the door, to get a better idea of why what happened just happened.

Something about... Ezekiel? And Fort Vejah? He pressed his ear against the door's surface, holding his breath. ... A trap? Sending troops? What in the blazes happened there...? Cornelius exhaled quietly, pushing open the doors to the throne room. Cyric was fighting a losing battle with the king; Cornelius himself was at wit's end with the ruler's cowardly behavior, to put it bluntly.

"I am sorry to interrupt, but I could not help but overhear the conversation... Would you allow me to make a comment, my king?" The general asked clearly, giving a slight bow and apologetic nod to the king before continuing to speak, regardless of the answer. He agreed with what Cyric was saying, and he wanted the ruler to see the reasoning, too. "If news of Fort Vejah's condition leaks to the people and you do not send out assistance, what would they think of you? They would lose faith in their ruler, and then we would have a much larger problem on our hands than just the petty and debatable worries about whether Ezekiel fell into some kind of trap or not." He stated bluntly yet respectfully, masking his irritation. Cornelius had sinking suspicions that the people of Estarcia were already a bit shaky about their king. However, they were only suspicions; he never bothered to validate them. It would have been too much trouble on his part to try. "It is true we do not know nor understand the full situation at Fort Vejah. At the same time, my king, that is why someone should be sent out to investigate. We know nothing about what has happened."

He paused, taking a moment to exhale heavily. The general did not want to consider the possibilities that filled his mind, but he could not cast them aside, either. "For all we know, it could have been a full-scale army that attacked, one that is capable of taking this castle down. Or, it could have been something petty. With our current information, it's impossible as well as illogical to assume anything. But..." A slight, polite smile grew on his face. "Isn't it better to be safe rather than sorry, my king?"

(( I did not design Cornelius; I just got the permission to play as him. :3
And due to stress and school and other things that I'm not going to go into in an OOC part of a post, my posts are going to suck for a while, so bear with me? ))

I had to think this over; Cornelius was speaking a bit of truth and it was almost convincing. On this hand, he may be right... I may be in trouble if it leaks, but it wouldn't leak unless there was... hm...

"Cornelius, your siding with Cyrus is almost... Enough, say." I looked over to Cyrus, then to Cornelius again. After he spoke more, it began apparent he wasn't just hounding me, he was speaking sense.

"Will you be fully prepared for this journey,? I have changed my decision. It is indeed better than to be safe than sorry, Cornelius. Cyric, you must thank him." I better not regret this. This country doesn't need anything more.

My hand strained a white knuckle fist, and then skin crinkled back. My expression was unchanged, it was my mind that was doing the thinking, not the many grooves of my visage. "If you find that Ezekiel breathes, be sure to bring him back, as well as any survivors." I said.

This wasn't good, the King was more worried about keeping everyone here safe and sound rather then send help...Cyric knew his men..he knew many of them had a family and surely the ones at Fort Vajeh had families or someone waiting for their safe return.

He clenched his hand, frustrated that his Majesty would not grant him this request on going.

"I am sorry to interrupt, but I could not help but overhear the conversation... Would you allow me to make a comment, my king?"

Cyric turned his head to the doorway, recognizing that voice when spoken. "Cornelius.." the King's right hand man and possibly the only person in this forsaken castle that would even back him up on something suggested to the King. Every word Cornelius spoke was taken into consideration by the king. The paladin sighed, a little relieved..least he wouldn't be the only one arguing against the King.

"Will you be fully prepared for this journey?"

Cyric raised his head, a little surprised that this time it took no effort to convince the King. Never the less he was happy. He would be sure to thank Cornelius once this conversation was over. He nodded "Of course..I need only take 3 squadrons with me..no more" Three was more then enough to go and come back. He didn't need anymore casualties assuming Fort Vajeh had plenty of that.

The paladin nodded once more at his order about Ezekiel. It would be a miracle should he be alive actually...never the less, an order was an order.

Cyric got up on his feet and bowed. Once he and Cornelius was outside and the door shut, Cyric let out a fairly heavy sigh and turned to the fellow General. "I thank you again, Cornelius. Had you not been here I would not have convinced the King of such a request". Truthfully he wouldn't. That was never the Captain's specialty and it never will be. Try as he might but it was still something he couldn't do.

But what was he going to tell Caterina...? She of all people would not be happy once she learned that Estarcian's Captain was taking leave on such short notice.

No

She would be one who would not be informed. The paladin shook the thought and turned back to Cornelius. "I shall prepare leave at once...Excuse me" stepping aside, Cyric moved down the hallway, then stopped "Oh..if you can..make sure the watch guards don't slack until their shift is over" knowing his men they were and he was not going to be happy if he came back just to find them sleeping in the tower. With that said, he continued down the hallway toward the Armory.

~Caterina~

------

Caterina sighed to herself as she strolled down the halls of the Estarcian Palace, her boots clicking on the stone floor. In one hand she held a lance roughly six feet in height, taller than she. The other held the hilt of what had been a sword until she had broken it in training just now. Slightly frustrated, she tossed the hilt end over end, catching it in a practiced move, always catching the hilt and not what was left of the blade.

If she had not been sweating, she would have been freezing. As a Falcon Knight, Caterina was attired in the short sleeved, short skirted attire that most Pegasus and Falcon Knights wore, though her boots did reach her thighs and her gloves came to midway between her shoulders and her elbows. Her cape did little to block out the cold, as a part of it was missing, though it was more for decoration than warmth. Her teal eyes flashed as she passed guards who hastily straightened up as the woman who clearly outranked them approached and passed.

They should be grateful it's only me and not Cyric who caught them slacking, she thought. Lazy bums. My knights would not dare to be so lax even in my absence. Hmph.

Entering the armory, she quickly fetched a sword similar to the one she had just broken. If Cyric's not too busy, I wonder if he'd train with me? she mused, testing the sword's weight in her hand.

After tying the new sword to her belt and handing the broken sword to the armorer, Caterina turned to head back out to the practice fields. After all, she wanted to make good use of the palace's training grounds before the priestess she was assigned to guard decided to leave the palace again. Preoccupied with thoughts of swordplay, Caterina paid little attention to where she was going. Wandering into the front courtyard that led to the Castle Gate, she realized she'd gone the wrong way. About to turn and head back inside, the flash of sunlight against armor caught her eye. Standing by the gate was none other than Cyric himself.

"C-Cyric!" she stammered, surprised to see him here of all places. Curious, she approached him. "Sir Cyric, what brings you here?" Glancing around, it struck her that the silver knight was preparing to leave. "Are you going somewhere? Has something happened?" Unless the king had ordered him to, Cyric would never leave the castle.

I've been lost in loneliness,of these nights deeper than darkness

I want someone to notice now...
Because I want to get out of here

-Cyric-

Everything was prepared and set for. The three squads Cyric requested were present and accounted for as well. Each squad had at least one healer, making a total of three present. Mages, Snipers and Paladins were mixed in each and various number of them were here. This was more than enough, the Captain thought, strapping the last piece of leather in place on his trusty steed, Ronan.

It shook his head against the cold breeze, even after Cyric had put a blanket over him. He patted his neck, brushing the mane aside. "Bear with me, Ronan" he murmured. "Are we all set?" Seemed like everyone was here anyhow. After glancing over at each and every one of his men, Cyric took hold of the saddle and-

"C-Cyric!"

He knew that voice anywhere..curse the goddess above! Cyric was hoping he wouldn't have to explain things..not to Caterina..her of all people. Never the less he acknowledged her presence and put his foot down, turning to face the Priestess's guardian. "Rina.." he murmured.

Honestly, Cyric didn't know where to start. Sure it was King's orders..but it was mainly the Paladin himself who insisted on going. His right hand came to the back of his head, rubbing it as a gesture of how he was going to explain it anyhow. "Fort Vajeh..was under attack...its quite possible that it was taken by now.." Cyric HOPED that wasn't the case..but he was prepared for the worse. "Truthfully...this was..my request..." muttering as quiet as he could but loud enough for the Falcon Knight's ears.

He stuttered, shaking his head and turned so he was fully facing Caterina. "Please understand, I simply cannot sit idle and allow my men who have families to return to die out there" The short notice was inexcusable, but Caterina of all people was the only one who understood the Captain better then the others, even his so-called family.

His eyes glanced over at the girl and he turned to his horse, pulling out a small extra cloak as he realized Rina was shivering. "here.." he pulled the cloak over her and around her shoulders, bundling her up just a bit. "You'll catch a cold if you stay out here too long.." He on the other hand was alright..there was an extra cloak in his bag should he need it but that wouldn't be for a while.

~Caterina~

Caterina stood silent as Cyric explained, her mind racing. Fort Vajeh, under attack? But who would dare attack us? And for it to be taken . . . who were those people? And Cyric--his going was his idea?!

"Cyric . . . of course I understand," she said softly, mostly so that the others assembled could not hear her. She hated that he had to leave on such short notice, but there wasn't much she could do about it. And she couldn't exactly leave with him either, however much she wanted to stay close to him. She had her own duties to complete.

Until he placed his cloak around her shoulders, she did not realize how cold she was, now that she wasn't sweating from the exertion of training. She shivered now, pulling the cloak tightly around her small frame. It smells like him. . . .

"Th-thank you," she murmured, trying not to let the silver knight see her blush. "I know I can't stop you, so . . ." She paused, taking a deep breath. "I wish you well. And Cyric--come back safely, alright?" She wouldn't forgive him if he got himself hurt--or worse--because he wanted to help his men and keep them alive. It was crazy and probably stupid, but . . . his care for his men was one of the things she loved about him. "I shall await your return. . . ."

-Cyric-

He didn't like to leave this short but he had no choice. This was his request and he was going to follow through it. "I will return safely..I promise you" Assuring the girl that he was going to make it out and return alive. Cyric was not one to be brought down so easily. He was happy to know someone would be waiting for him besides the King.

The silver knight approached Caterina and wrapped his arms around her, embracing her before he departed. "Then..I guess I'll be going. I will return soon." He kissed her the forehead and a couple of the girls in the squad started giggling. Cyric shot them a glare then turned back to Caterina, giving her a smile and released her.

"We ride North!" Cyric announced, climbing on his saddle and took hold of his reign. He looked over to his men, letting out a soft 'ha' when his hand flicked the reigns.

In a few minutes of passing, Cyric was out of sight. Toward his destination, Fort Vajeh where an unknown threat lies.

She knew he would be safe, but she would still worry. He'd never broken a promise to her, and she knew he didn't intend to start now. And so she would wait for him, her promise to him.

She wasn't expecting him to hug her. Caterina stood in shock for a few seconds before hugging him back, blushing fiercely, even more so when he kissed her forehead. Some of the girls assembled started giggling, and both Cyric and Caterina glared at them, not amused. Cyric turned to smile at her before releasing her. She smiled softly back, whispering, "I'll be waiting." Even if only to hear him call her Rina; he was the only one allowed to call her that.

Leaning against the gate, Caterina watched the squad depart, riding off into the distance until she could not even see the dust the horses kicked up. Slowly, she raised a hand to her forehead.

He kissed me! Cyric kissed me! He's certainly never done that before. He kissed me. . . .

A few moments passed before she noticed the guards smirking at her. "What are you looking at? Get back to your duties!" she snapped. They jumped, returning to attention. Fuming, the Falcon Knight returned inside. A part of her--how much, even she was not quite certain--was riding north to face an unknown threat.

Good luck, Cyric. I'll be waiting. . . .
