Crisp morning air. A slightly warmer then normal temperature. And above all, delicious food! The mare let out many happy, and occasionally, to her embarrassment, loud, whinnies and more. She had found a nice jackpot of tender grass that had been sheltered from the snow thanks to a clump of trees. It was surprising that it had lasted this long! She smiled and began to pack it into her little food pouch. It would dry, and be just the best for when she, or a foal, needed it! What luck!

Her body shivered a bit at a breeze and she paused, looking around, before happily going back to her work. It was a nice day, for winter, and she was curious if she would run into anyone today. It would be foolish, she thought, to miss out on all this nice weather, but of course, not everyone thought along her lines, she reminded herself. She turned her head upward to look at the barren trees. Sadly, no leaves or...oh! She spotted one of the ever green trees and hurried over, leaving the pouch by the grass spot, since she'd return to it shortly. Poking her nose in it, she tried to see if it held anything useful, such as loose branches she could bring with her. She flicked her tail as her head disappeared, re-appeared, and disappeared once more into the tree's mass of poky branches.

Having gone for a walk Rowan found himself a good distance away from the herd. How far he had walked that day so he wasn't sure but he likely wouldn't return to the herd until that night or perhaps the next day. He walked through the snow, his memories drifting to when he was younger and had enjoying frolicking in the snow and ice. Those times were past him now, he was older and had changed dramatically. He had died once, and came back after spending some time in Hell. The ropes on him served as a reminder of what he had endured at the hands of two leggers. He would avoid them at all costs.

Some movement caught his eye and he moved a but closer to the trees. He watched as a small mare stuck her head into an evergreen tree. Now what was she doing? This wasn't normal behavior at all, not like he did normal things anymore, but still. "That's a good way to poke your eye out." He said in his gruff voice. His voice had been different before, not as scratchy or gruff, but now with the ropes always choking him it affected his talking and made him sound much different.

Ashia jumped at the voice, knocking her head on a branch. Backing out she looked around her before she spotted him. "Oh! Hello the-..." She drifted off, seeing his appearance. Her mind went into overdrive, just as it had done when she had met Thanos. However, she kicked herself, mentally of course, before she freaked out over this one. "Sir..." She started, uncertain. He might be one like that Thanos stallion. "Are you ok?" She asked, her voice steady, calm, and careful. "You... Do you need help?" Ashia added another question for clarification.

She was proud of herself for not flying off the handle. She noted, subconsciously, that this one had weird eyes to. His voice was slightly chilling, but the ropes looked to be a factor in that. Way to tight, she noticed. Who would do such a thing? She knew no horse could tie a knot like that. Had those who walked on two legs hurt this stallion? And he was such a pretty color to...

He almost. chuckled as the mare jumped at his voice. Almost. But he held it in somehow and quickly pushed the thought away. For a quick moment he wondered why she would ask if he were okay, but it passed quickly. The constant pressure on his throat and back leg told him why she had asked such a question. "Yes I am okay." He told her in that scratchy voice. He didn't look it but he was okay, for the most part at least.

He shook his head a bit. "No, I don't believe I need help." His eyes moved to the tree and then back to the small mare. "What were you doing with your head in that tree?"

Ashia relaxed a little bit. He must be with Thanos. However his question distracted her from her own. "Ah... well see I was looking for loose branches. I'm gathering things. The coldest part of winter is yet to be upon us and I'd like to be prepared. Always need to be prepared in my work. I search and rescue lost, hurt, and abandoned foals. I try to help adults to, if I come across them." She smiled softly. "Now... I am sorry if this is rude but... ah... You wouldn't happen to be part of a herd of horses that came from Hell, would you? Run by a black, half decayed looking stallion by the name of Thanos?" She asked. It was rather rude to ask, making a judgment based on his looks, but still.

Her mind was slightly kicking her and the little mare tried to think of some way to try and get those ropes off. She doubted she'd be able to convince him to do it but still... It seemed it would be easier to help him then help Thanos... She shuttered a bit at the thought of his big wounds.

"Rescue foals huh?" He said, that was odd and yet a bit interesting at the same time. Had he not gone through what he had he might have been more interested in it, after all he wasn't always the horse he is now. True back before he died he was the ladies man and would have flirted with this mare back then, but not now, he just didn't think his charm and 'good' looks would work anymore. He shrugged it off, it was in the past, not too much of a concern to him anymore.

His head bobbed in a nod at the mares question. "Yes I am from that herd. Thanos is my leader." Although at the rate the others in the herd did nothing Thanos really did have much to do as a leader. It was no wonder the stallion wandered away so often. He stretched his neck a bit, out of habit from trying to loosen the rope, though he knew full well no matter how hard he tried it wouldn't do so. "I am Rowan. And you are?"

"You poor thing... And such a beautiful coat to..." She shook her head sadly. "I wish I could help some how..." She looked him over. She couldn't imagine the pain, the suffering, the torment, he must suffer. And yet, the diffrence between him and Thanos was staggering. It seemed not all of these Hell horses were alike in their... attitude. "Ah, and My name is Ashia, and yes, I rescue foals. Trying to prolong their life here and hopefully teach them better so they might not end up in a bad place." Ashia sighed softly.

"Is there any way I could help you, Rowan?" She asked, looking up at him kindly. "You seem to be such a nice stallion..." She was half speaking to herself at this point. "What did you ever do to deserve such a punishment..."

"You know some of those foals will end up in Hell right?" It was a harsh statement but a true one. Just because a foal was rescued from death didn't mean that it would grow up to be a good horse. Likely many turned to anger for one reason or another and that led to bad choices and ultimately a trip to Hell. Her comment about his pretty coat relaxed him a bit. Yes it was a beautiful coat, though it had certainly seen better days. Now it was scarred from his encounter with humans.

"Help me?" He said with a huff. "Had I ran into you in Hell I would have taken you up on that offer of help, if nothing more than to free me from these ropes. Back then I didn't know why I had then. But now..." He trailed off for a moment lost in thought. "I know why they are there. They serve me as a reminder to never let it happen again."

He shifted his weight around so that the leg with the rope could get a bit of rest. "As for why I deserve this punishment. Well I have done some things in the past. And this..." He glanced at his back leg with the ropes and then stretched his neck out a bit. "is most certainly my punishment for it."

"Yes... yes I know..." She said a bit sadly. "I know they won't all grow up to be good stallions and mares. But if I left them to die just because they might one day be bad...well then I would be guilty of far worse then they could ever do." Ashia said softly. For all she knew on of the members of Thanos' herd was a foal she, or her mentor, had saved. The thought brought her mind into sharp, painful focus. "Oh wow..." She whispered at her little realization. But no matter! She shook her head lightly. If she met a once foal whom had gone to Hell and came back...well... she'd take that chance in stride and be happy to see them again. And she'd hope they were as nice as this stallion seemed to be. After all, you didn't have to be pure evil to have gone to hell, obviously.

"I don't think you deserve this." She said. "Rowan, you've been punished enough. Hell is not a nice place, I am certain, but no one should carry the burden of their bad deeds forever... Its just not fair." The little mare sighed softly. She hated to see someone hurt, stuck, and not be able to help them. "There is nothing I can do for you?"

His ear twitched a bit as she spoke. It seemed to him that he had said something to get her thinking. Oh well, can't go back on his words now. "I deserve it, though you may not understand why, I believe that I do. I made some bad choices in life, which ultimately lead to my death." He told her after a few moments pause. "You're right Hell is not a nice place. That is why so many do things to avoid going there. Perhaps if I hadn't have done what I did I would have not ended up in there."

He shook his mane in a moment of thought. "Fair. I'll tell you whats not fair. You ever run into a human before? Their actions are even worse that my own. They hunt us down, catch us and break our will and rob us of our freedom....and sometimes our lives. That's not fair." His mind drifted for a moment back to that fateful day when he was caught by the humans and died. "As for what you can do for me? There really nothing you can do." His hoof stamped to make his point clear. "What you can do it be smart and avoid the humans." He thought she would know this already, but if she didn't well then he just did a good deed for the day. A good deed, he almost laughed, wouldn't Thanos have a fit if he found out.

So he was going to argue that point to. She sighed lightly. "I see... Well... it is good that you've accepted what happened to you. And that you seem... well you don't seem so horrible to me. In fact, you seem so kind. Its just hard for me to picture such a nice stallion in such a horrible placed." The little mare shook her head sadly.

Ashia was taken aback at his apparent hate of the two legged humans. While she never had met them personally, her attire was given to the little safe haven by humans. And she knew sometimes food from them would appear in baskets by the edge of the forest. "No, I've never met a human. But Rowan, they aren't all bad. Just like, there arn't all bad horses. There are many kinds. There are ones who bring food for the mares who protect and teach the foals I rescue. They also gave this blanket to them." She motioned to the blanket on her back. "Without it, many foals would have frozen to death in the winter nights." How sad that he had had such a bad run in. The ropes... they must had had something to do with it. "I'm sorry, Rowan, that you met with such horrible humans... I will be careful around them." She promised.

Rowan shook his head. "You assume too much after only knowing for a short time. I may seem nice, but I'm not. I have murdered in cold blood and for no other reason than jealousy. I have vowed my revenge on every human that walks this land." He paused for a moment so that she could let all that sink in before he continued. "And if Thanos commanded me to, I would kill you without questioning his orders."

This mare was so foolish to think that a few nice acts from the humans would make it all better. Big deal so they fed a few foals and gave her a blanket. But what about what the did to him? Or to the other horses they captured. "And what happens when those foals they help to feed are captured by other humans? They will be beaten and broken. Their only hope for freedom is a death like the one I granted myself." He head shook back and forth making the ropes shake a bit to accentuate his point.

Ashia shook her head. "Of course you are. I am still alive here, Am I not? You have no attacked me for no reason. If Thanos told you to, I would expect you to do so because he is your leader. But your not a mindless evil being, Rowan. You have good inside of you. Perhaps you don't want to but you do." She smiled softly. "And just because you hate doesn't mean your bad. You've been...horribly mistreated by humans, its obvious. No one can blame you for feeling less then kind towards them." She sighed.

"And I am not saying those humans had any excuse for hurting you like they did. I was only saying that there are humans out there who won't break and hurt the horses they meet. Not all humans are bad. Just like not all of you Hell horses are bad. Not all of us normal horses are good. Everything has its balance, its place, and that's how things are." She nodded. It was sad, but true. She looked over this stallion with his painful ropes. Her ears flatted in a sad manner and she shook her head lightly. It was a harsh reality. Life was not as beautiful and perfect as it appeared on the surface. She blinked as that thought tugged something in her mind but before she could grasp it, it was gone.

Letting a snort out Rowan studied the small mare. For being a horse who tried to do so much good in this world she certainly liked to argue points with him. Perhaps she wasn't arguing but was merely overly passionate about things, either way it didn't matter, she clearly would not see things the way he did. He decided to amuse her a bit with the idea that he may have good in him.

"Perhaps I do have good in me. I have let you live so far, which I suppose can be looked at as a good thing." He stretched his neck out again, blasted ropes were beginning to dig into him once again. "And perhaps I will die once more and end up in a place better than Hell, even though I don't think I deserve it." He glanced off into the distance as he thought more on this. He did have some compassion left in him, after all he could have stomped this little mare into the ground the moment he saw her, but instead he had decided to be nice and talk, and that sickened him. He was supposed to be a bringer of death, a true member of the Hell Herd who allowed nothing to survive. And here he was chatting it up with this mare.

Finally his eyes returned to her. "Tell me this Ashia, have you ever done anything in your life that you regret? No matter how insignificant it may seem." He doubted she could say that she regretted nothing. At one time in every horses life they did something that they would later regret. Though the list of regrets that Rowan had was quite long.

She smiled a bit. "Even Thanos let me live, and he is the leader of this Hell herd, isn't he?" She giggled lightly. "If you die once more I hope you have peace. No matter if you deserve it." Ashia said lightly. His question startled her though, and she took a moment to think. Something she regretted? Her mind traveled through countless memories and days. She sighed softly, shuttering a moment. "Yes..." She said finally, looking at him. "Yes, there are things that I have done, or rather, failed to do, that I regret. I am not perfect. They may seem silly to once such as yourself. But I have my regrets. The day I let my mentor leave for water without me. I will always regret that. When I find a small corpse of a foal I regret not waking up a little earlier. I regret taking a little to long to get a drink, eat, deciding where to head. every day that passes that I find no foal, when I know there are many out there, I regret." She sighed softly. So much sadness. She didn't like being sad. It made her job so much harder. She tried to always think happy. But this stallion wasn't wanting to let her do that, it seemed.
