User ImageMajesty was gliding through the swamp, passing through glades and glens, always moving. She hadn't slept in the same spot twice for many moons, and and had gone without speaking even longer.

She was tired of this life, though. Maybe today was the day to settle down in a glen, look for a strong buck to mate with, and produce more like her. Majesty snorted. It would be a strange buck to be enamored with her!

That was it, then. The next glade she passed through, she would stop and try to settle down.

Webweave's tail was swishing back and forth as she stood there with her head down low, staring at the little bug on the ground. Well... it wasn't really on the ground anymore. It was a second ago though.... She stood there and watched as this foolish jumping bug leapt up.... straight into a spider's web. She giggled softly. It was so doomed! She watched it struggle and begin to flail, but all to no avail. As if on cue, the spider who's web it was, crept out from under a leaf and stalked towards her soon-to-be-food. The doe continued to watch the dance of the spider as it caught the stupid bug and then spun it round and round in her sticky silk. Once done, it bit into the bundle and then crept back into hiding.

Webweave shook her head and made off with a grin on her face. Foolish thing!, she thought to herself, but when her eyes focused back on her surroundings, she realized that she had just enetered into a glade. The same glade, in fact, that she had stumbled upon the other day, but this time... it was not empty. Across the clearing, she could see a figure... She stopped and calmly assessed the situation, trying to sort out her words and figure out how she would go about investigating this other.

Majesty surveyed the glade. There seemed to be running water nearby, and the ground was soft enough, and cover could be made if she needed it.

While surveying the site, Majesty didn't notice the other kimeti watching the bug. She also didn't notice the doe notice her, until she glanced over to see the brilliantly colored kimeti watching her from across the glade.

Majesty froze. She had intended to try and communicate with the others in this area, but this suddenness bordered on ridiculousness. What was the Motherfather thinking?

The other had seen her, so it was decided for her. Webweave took one step, two, and then brought her pace up to a leisurely trot as she made her way over to the stranger. As she got closer, she saw that she was not imagining things, and that it was indeed another doe she was looking at. Her coat looked like it was moving, but there was no breeze in the air, and it looked almost like the fur was dancing to a beat of it's own. Now within earshot, she offered up a greeting.

"May the Swamp smile upon you, stranger." A small nod, "My name is Webweave." She stood up a little straighter as she drew to a stop and waited patiently for a response. She wondered what this doe was like, as she seemed very different than any of the kimeti she had come across so far in her life, but she supposed that she would find out soon enough.

As the other doe (Webweave, she corrected to herself) introduced herself, Majesty's mind was reeling. She finally managed to hoarsely reply, "And upon you, Webweave."

After a few moments, she remembered to introduce herself. I am called Majesty."

Majesty was quite embarrassed for that slip up in etiquette. Hopefully it would look like dramatic pause or something equally acceptable, rather than her forgetfulness.

Trying to repair the situation, she continued, "You have very beautiful markings, Webweave."

Another nod to accept the returned greeting, and perhaps another flick of the tail. Webweave watched the other doe, very interested in her coat, and caught herself staring. She shook her head slightly and brought herself out of the trance she had been in. When her eyes darted back up to the other doe's, she received a compliment.

She tilted her head, brow a little furrowed, and said, "Thank you, Majesty." She glanced down at her own coat and mentally shrugged. She had thought her coat was interesting, but beautiful? Well, beauty was in the eye of the beholder, was it not? "I would say the same, but I don't think your coat as markings... as much as it has a living rainbow, pulsing through it." A small smile, to ensure Majesty that she was offering a compliment of her own, as she allowed herself to look at the coat once more.

Majesty looked at her own coat, unsure about the compliment.

"It is not a very useful coat, as it glows at night and gets caught in things," she responded.

"Your coat has very intricate markings, and they compliment each other, but may I ask if you know what part of the swamp we are in, and if I'm in anyone's specific territory?"

Majesty had been wandering, in circles she was sure, so there was no telling where she was, or in who's glade.

"Well, thank you," she replied politely. But as to her question... Webweave took a moment to look around the glade they stood in, to try to identify any territory markings, or anything of the sort.

Webweave had an almost perfect memory, and an eye for details, so it only took her a glance to identify this glade. She had been here before, but there were no territory distinctions, and there were no regular kimeti inhabitants. Turning back to the rainbow doe, she said, "No, this glade is in the clear. No one has claimed it yet, though I haven't been the only one to pass through here before. There's a stream that way," she pointed with her hoof, "so there are some regular visitors in that manner.... but apart from that...," a shrug and a soft smile. She assumed that this doe wanted to stake a claim, and she could see why. It was a nice clearing, not claimed... why not?

Majesty took a quick glance at the stream, and surveyed her new glade. It was nice, and the thoroughfare would give her the opportunity to meet other kimeti, and try to assimilate once again.

Majesty nodded. "Thank you, Webweave," she replied with a smile. Majesty was quite unsure of how to continue the conversation. This was the first real conversation she had had in many, many moons, and she wasn't very good at it.

"So, how is the weather in this part of the swamp?," she asked, and then kicked herself. The weather is all she could think to ask about?

"You're very welcome, Majesty," When she took a moment to think about it, Webweave realized that the other's name suited her very well. She would definitely describe this doe as majestic. Was it her poise? The way she carried herself? Her beautiful dancing coat of many colors? Perhaps even the long flowing mane and tail? It was probably at least a little bit of all of those, she decided.

The weather? A silent giggle was betrayed by a little grin, but she spoke aloud, "It's rainy, obviously, as all of the swamp is, but there are many trees along the outer ring to keep the worst of it away when one wishes to stay dry. But as far as I have seen, it stays quite steady here, not too cold, maybe a little warm some days." She knew this was rather generic for all of the swamp, but that was all that there was to say. "It's agreeable, as the sun likes to shine and the leaves keep the shade plentiful."

At the sight of Webweave's slight grin, Majesty's ears wilted. How embarrassing! At least the other doe seemed to be doing her the kindness of actually answering the stupid question.

Taking time to actually look at Webweave, she noticed her name didn't exactly match her markings. Certainly they wove, but it was hardly a web. Must be a character trait then.

"That is very nice, isn't it?" she replied, still kicking herself. Time to change the subject then, unless the other doe was a weather freak. Majesty didn't think she was that lucky.

Glancing at Webweave's coat, she said, "Your coat doesn't match your name very well. Do you mind me asking why?"

Another nod accompanied by a wide grin this time. "Certainly! Questions deserve an answer always. I suppose that Mother Swamp knew from my very beginning that I would weave facts and stories altogether, creating glorious webs in the process. It is second nature for me to embellish my words, I'm told. I just tell it how it is, or... at least how it looks through my eyes.... which... truthfully may not always be completely in accordance to everyone else's take on the matter..."

She knew that she told lies, but she saw no reason to lie to this doe, at least not when it came to explaining herself. Why should she make herself out to be something other than she was? She had so many other things, other interesting things that she could play-up and describe instead!

Majesty tried to pick her way through the diatribe the other doe was giving. She obviously had a gift with words; they flowed out of her mouth in the same way colors flowed through her body.

"A weaver of tales then, Webweave?" she asked in response. Majesty remembered something an old doe had told her once...about lying and tangled webs. The way Webweave described herself ... it seemed as though Webweave could keep each individual strand untangled even in the most complicated of webs.

"That is a blessing and a curse to carry, I would think. If you 'embellish the truth' but once, won't others think you embellish always?"
PostPosted: Thu Jan 07, 2010 7:31 pm

Webweave nodded mentally. She thought that she had explained herself well. She told lies, but she told truths woven into those lies, and this was just the way that she was.

"Yes, I suppose a weaver of tales would once, and then always be seen as an embellisher of words. Though, I don't think of it as a curse, myself. I understand that many others will not choose to keep my company or take what I say seriously for all of these reasons, but that is their own choice, and not mine to make. Everyone has their own will, and taking that away is not in my path to choose, I just tell of what I see and hear and feel and smell to anyone who is willing to take part in my part of this Story. So yes, it could be considered a curse as well as a gift, but it is only the latter from my point of view."

The answer stunned Majesty. Here she had been running from her family because she was ashamed of herself, and this kimeti was proud to be known as a liar? Words never came easily to Majesty, but she managed to reply.

"It is...amazing, your self-assurance. It is a wonderful thing to be so...you."

Could it work? Could Majesty accept the stares, the whispers? This doe certainly did, but she could lie much easier than Majesty could.
