Why Samantha had insisted on shooting fireworks from their backyard wasn't hard for her parents to figure out; but as for the reason she had invited everyone--and literally, everyone, to their house past most children's bedtime? That was anyone's guess. It would be a nice party for the children, Thali supposed. Watching fireworks, playing with sparklers, eating roasted marshemellows. Ben had brought out a portable firepit they could use. Of course, they were under the strictest of supervision--which meant they weren't being watched at all.
Sammi was setting up fireworks. Fireworks would make every day a holiday, if she had been allowed to set them off every day. She had spinners, sparklers--enough for everyone. She had fountains and starballs, parachutes, comets, backflashes, diamonds, crackles, nightwaves, everything a pyromaniac could wish for. Unfortunately, that was just what Samantha was.
Calcifer was following the fire starter with interest; his wizardly charge wasn't far behind him. "Nice choice in fireworks," the fire demon complimented her, having known quite a bit about them from Ingary. "Howl used to like setting them off for birthdays, before we came here."
"I know Cal. I read the book."
Calcifer's reply was, as always; "What book?"
Howl finally reached them. "Hey Sammi? Do you think Jaella'll be coming?"
Sammi ignored him, and continued setting up the rockets. She wouldn't set them off until midnight. She had never stayed up for New Years before; she wondered what magical thing would happen once it hit.
Reiya was watching her father roast hotdogs on the fire. "Nice night," she would comment. Of course it was nice and clear. She had made it that way. The clouds seemed to part over their house; just their house. Reiya wasn't so strong as to be able to control weather completely. But she could keep a storm at bay.

Ivy sang softly out loud as she pushed the stroller with Eve. The little girl was fussy at the moment, tucking at the dark blue jumper that she had fought her
nanny so much that her mother had come in from her training session to get the little girl to wear the jumper.
The song lulled Eve, making it hard for her to be annoyed at her mother. It was a pretty color, but Eve hated how hard it was to walk sometimes. She held the invitation for the party that her mother was taking her to. Supposedly children of her age would be there and her mother wanted her to have fun.
