Hear, hear! For a Silent Hill movie is being made!
As I am sure most of you already know, there's a Silent Hill movie in the works. Set for a 4/21/2006 release, it's technically a remake of the plot from the first SH game.

Usually, videogame movies range from the ridiculously laughable (Super Mario Bros.: Still a joke) to the alarming (Wait... So... Resident Evil's Nemesis becomes good in the end? WTF?! gonk ).

So far, from the look of the film, the ambience, and most importantly, the story seems strangely and mostly faithful to the first game's premise (Child gets lost, parent goes seeking child, OOPS, Silent Hill is a Freakin' Nightmare!), but I'm going to let you guys decide that.

Here's the website of the movie.

It actually looks like it has potential. Like you said, it looks like they got the ambience down pat.

I'm seeing this. I so am.

Silent Hill always struck me as being a pretty "movie friendly" videogame, since the series is very story focused, unlike, say, most other videogames that get movies made of them. Though I suppose, you could have said the same thing about Resident Evil (though I think the second one is fun to watch in a "laugh your a** off at how awesomely stupid it is" sort of way).

It's an action flick... And there's some sort of unwritten Hollywood rule that states that every Action-Focused Movie must, at least, include a dramatic entrace of a main character, a bad guy who is not that bad and everything always ends up working out in the end somehow.

Lucky for us, Silent Hill has never been much of an action franchise.

So, it seems that the SH Theatrical Trailer is being shown along with Underworld Evolution.
It's also available through the official site.

It looks better than any Uwe Boll movie.
It also looks quite similar to the game... In a good way. It's hard to compress a long 8+ hours game into a feature film, less than / approximately 2 hours long. Considering those limitations, I think the movie is going to be good. Considerably more enjoyable than, say, Bloodrayne, or Resident Evil: Apocalypse.

And it seems that there's a guy with a Pyramid on its head. Pure fanservice, I tell ya.

HELLOOOOOOO NURSE.

I don't know, I think it's gonna pass the grade. It's not going to be this huge thing that everyone talks about... In fact, I think it's going to be mildly successful, and people will talk about it just enough, and with fondness ... "Hey, remember the Silent Hill movie?" "Yeah. It's cool." "Yeah... Unlike that Aeon Flux one." "Tell me about it"

When it comes to horror movies my heart is pretty weak, but with this movie I swear to GOD I'll go see it.

I don't think the game was that long. If I remember correclty on subsiquent play throughs I finished it in a few hours, and that's with the "must have complete map..must check every door and room even if I know they aren't important" mentallity that I have. I think they're gonna have to beef up the story for the movie, since as good as the game story is the running around, killing monsters, and solving puzzles isn't exciting if you're watching it and not doing it yourself.

Sure he's fanservie...but....it's Pyramid Head! Guy with metalic pyramid for a head that wears a butcher's apron, carries a huge knife, and wanders around killing and raping monsters. Does an evil subconsious manifestation get better than that?

Ah! Yes! Hence why I think the inclusion of the woman's husband, to provide an alternate "view" of the events of the film. I believe that we'll see a bit of a mix of SH1 and SH2: SH1's story with elements of SH2's in it.

From the trailer... it's a videogame movie that doesn't look absolute s**t!

Fair enough, that's not saying much and it's only a trailer anyway. Still, I can't wait for the bit where our hero can't climb over 3 feet of fence.

Or the awesome SH1 lines... "What's wrong with that radio?"

By the way, check the official site. It's awesome... Mainly because at any moment it goes from Foggy Silent Hill to Nightmare Silent Hill. Seriously. Its interface changes COMPLETELY. It's quite moody, and reminds me of the game.

Meanwhile, people like me that don't even know what a Silent Hill is have nothing to look forward to with this movie.

Do you like mysterious scary movies with bizarre, surreal landscapes, and a great background story?

You want to know why I think this is going to be the most faithful videogame to movie film?

a) It's not directed by Uwe Boll
b) The producers had to beg (BEG!) Konami to let them. For years. THEY BEGGED FOR YEARS. Passion!
c) Christopher Gans knows the sources of inspiration for Silent Hill... And knows them well. Which means he also undesrtand the psychology behind the games, and may apply it to the movie itself. Evidence supports this, so far. (Interview with Gans here: http://silenthillforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=111 )
d) Akira Yamaoka is making the score. This should be enough to buy the soundtrack. WHICH I WILL. Expect lots of grinding, industrial sounds, almost-silences, and that Silent Hill atmosphere we've grown to love and... love to be scared of.
