This topic is bound to come up a lot, so why not get it out of the way first?

What section do you sing in? Do you like the section that you're in? Do you wish you were (or, in some cases, were able to be) in another section?

I myself am an alto (yay altos), but I sometimes have serious cases of soprano envy (as my friends call it)... or even tenor envy. eek

A Capella isn't a voice part.

I was in my school's A Capella choir last year, though. We were supposedly one of the best highschool choirs in the state. ._.

Yeah, they're special and good until you actually get INTO the choir. THEN you sing with 'em and start picking apart what you do, and even though it sounds perfect to the audience, it's never good enough for ya.

I loved that.

People also talk all the effin' time, especially if you're in a larger choir.

I loved that.... not so much. ._.

Aww.. we have a lot of mediocrre sopranos who are afraid to sing Alto. Apparantly they can't deal with not singing the melody.

A lot of sopranos can't deal with that, because they're pretty much trained to read the melody and only the melody. ._.

At least, that's why they struggled last year....

Suck sopranos are typically singers that can't read music, and are often bad at ear tuning.

Ha, yeah. I used to sing Soprano 1 and I thought that the Altos were slow because it always took them longer to learn the music and we had to go back and fix thier lines more often, then I sang Alto and was like OMG! This is freakin hard. Yeah I suck at sightreading so singing Alto for the past year has REALLY helped, now we get music and Im like IM DOING IT!!! IM DOING IT!!! and its exciting!

I sing Alto 1. I sang Soprano 1 until Sophmore year of high school, when I switched to Alto because when I got into Chamber Singers, we started singing things with real soprano lines and I realized that I really don't have much of a range. We have a pretty good Alto section, though I'm currently annoyed with them because, although when I joined there were only four of us singing alto 1, and two of those people have graduated, this year, everyone has decided that they can't sing Alto 2 anymore, so we're losing our balance. grr, stupid people.

Our Altos are usually a lot better at staying in key and on pitch than our sopranos, actually. But we have a few MAJOR Diva sopranos in our choir that can't admit that they were wrong (or that they're not singing a solo and need to blend. stressed ), so that creates some problems. We're improving though! And I'm trying my best to learn to actually read music this year... never played an instrument, so I never really learned it, but I'm really trying to this year.
