A kitten curled up at Serandite's ankle as she sat on the swings. Serandite kneeled down to pet it behind the ears, the low purring made her giggle. Silly kitty. Rolling over on it's stomach wasn't a smart move. Serandite reflected that she would prefer to own a pet if she was the responsible sort. But she wasn't and would probably deal with a pet horribly. With a few more moments of tummy-rolling and ahh-ing over it's adorable features, the kitten seemed content to play with Serandite's large kimono ribbon.

"Kittens sure aren't the brightest." She said aloud. Look at the situation. Serandite was an evil murdering negaverse soldier. And the kitten didn't even sense a thing. Serandite was still struggling to get past the murderer part really. She really thought about what Rohan had said. But dude, it was hard to think of things when you don't even have anything to start from!

Perhaps it was a useless effort, she thought, leaning back in a swaying motion on the swings. Was she over thinking it? Maybe. Perhaps. Serandite didn't ponder on anything often really, so this was a new subject. Thinking. She didn't think. She always acted. Thinking was quite difficult. At least, philosophical topics were.

Ughh. This is why Serandite didn't usually get into heavy discussions. There were too much trouble and effort. Cearly, she wasn't going anywhere with this on her own.

Virgo would have stayed away. She really wanted to. She would have stayed put on her bench until the scary kimono-wearing negaverse girl went back away, but there was a little kitten playing around her feet. It was for the kitten that the green-skirted senshi was approaching, branches and ice cracking under her heels.

She stopped, hands up over her doublestar brooch in the cliche 'innocent girl' pose. There was no hope for getting the kitten when Serandite was right there. Poor kitty...

"Kitties are really smart, actually," said Virgo, jumping like her own voice surprised her. "That one is just a little kitty." She bent at the waist, holding one arm out to beckon the kitten closer to her, making that silly hissing sound Sue had told her once did nothing to make a kitten like you. But if it kept her knees out of the cold snow, and brought the kitten over to her, that would be okay. "C'mere, kitty," said Virgo.

A new familiar voice came in-- it was that Virgo senshi. Sheesh, senshi DID seem to patrol every night. The other probably expected Serandite to attack upon sight but Serandite seemed content to sit there, while peering at the senshi quite curiously.

"I'm not going to hurt a kitten. Contrary to what you may think, us negaversers definitely don't go around kicking kittens and puppies." A pause sounded hesitantly. Wait, Some of them might have considered it. "Well, some of us do and some of us don't anyways. I don't." Serandite assured the other, her tone exasperated. She attacked senshi, not kittens. Serandite picked up the kitten, scooping the tiny bundle of fur in her hands, holding it to her own chest in a cuddle.

It was definitely off, the way she wasn't attacking Virgo. But the girl only came for the kitten after all. "Are you on patrol little miss innocent or did you come here exclusively to take away my playmate for the night?" She held out the kitten to the senshi pointedly, large suspicious brown eyes staring up at Virgo, expecting the other to snatch the kitten away from her.

"You attacked us when we weren't doing anything to hurt you," Virgo pointed out. It looked a lot like she wanted to snatch away the kitten, but the accusation of coming out to do nothing but hurt Serandite had hit home. She hadn't quite forgotten the words the pink-haired Negaverser had thrown at her, either. Wimpy. Useless. Selfish. None of them described Virgo, but. Someone else had said them, and that gave the words power.

Plus, her hand still hurt from falling on glass. She attributed that to Serandite, too, even though it had nominally been Atlas. "I was on patrol, of course," said Virgo. "I like patrolling, except not when I lose my buddy. I always end up getting hurt when I'm patrolling alone." She was still staring warily at Serandite, green eyes wide. "C-come to think of it, why aren't you attacking me?"

"That's a negaverse agent's job." Serandite pointed out in the same manner. She didn't feel bad about the words she had told Virgo last time because it was true. Serandite disliked weak people like Virgo. Or at least, she had assumed the girl was, from first impressions.

"I'm not attack you because I just don't feel up to it." Serandite said quickly, a bit too quickly. She stared into the kitten's eyes for a few more seconds before approaching Virgo to hand the kitten to her.

"Actually, this would be quite convenient. Miss Virgo, how do you feel about giving me an honest opinion of something?" Serandite clapped her hands together like a bright idea hit her. But a senshi talking to a negaverser on peaceful terms? Not such a bright idea, one could debate. But Serandite was counting on the fact that this senshi seemed entirely too nice and would likely stay behind.

(if she left, Serandite would just force her to stay, reallllly nicely of course.)

Virgo accepted the kitten and fell back a few steps; not close enough that Serandite could just reach out and hit her, but definitely near enough that they could hold a proper conversation. In fact, hearing the question, Virgo settled on the snowy ground after clearing herself a nice circle of dry asphalt. "Okay," said the bluenette; "What do you need to ask me about?"

She was holding the kitten up to her chest, right over her heart. The kitten was licking Virgo's chin and the senshi was giggling, quietly tending to the little cat. Her attention, though, was mostly on Serandite--Serandite and the possessed bunny stuffy.

"You aren't gonna attack me and steal my starseed the second I answer, though, right?"

"I'm not going to attack you." Serandite said disgustedly. She wouldn't attack in such a dishonest manner. It was a low tactic, to trick a senshi like that. "One thing you're gonna learn about me is that I'm honest. I gave you and Atlas warnings before I attacked!" Serandite said huffily, pointing at herself with her thumb in a prideful manner. If Virgo thought back on the experience, Serandite had warned them twice! At least!

To further prove her point, Serandite put her bunny to the side, Loppy sat against the pole in a docile manner. It sat there harmlessly while Serandite settled herself back onto the swing, making sure her large yellow ribbon wasn't mixed with the swing chains.

"First of all, this doesn't go past us. I need a senshi's opinion but I certainly dont need a rumor of a spineless negaverse going out. Can you keep secrets?" Serandite asked, holding up her hand in a pinky-promise with Virgo with a heavy expression. This certainly was a change from the usually cheerful or annoyed lieutenant.

With a nod, Virgo straightened up and cradled the kitten into one hand. The other arm she extended, then she hooked her pinky into Serandite's. At least there was a Negaverse agent who understood the sanctity of the pinky swear. Captain Aries certainly didn't seem to take it very seriously. Neither did Giselle. The Princess did, but Virgo balked at comparing Serandite to her Princess.

"Nobody will ever hear anything from me," she promised, "S'long as you don't steal my starseed. Then I'll tell the Princess you stole my starseed."

Fallacious logic aside, Virgo looked very serious as she settled back into her spot, legs curled under her to preserve her decorum. She shivered; it seemed like the Negaverse had better uniforms, at least.

Just in case she hadn't been clear previously, she clarified, "I won't tell anyone what we talk about. Nobody at all."

Okay. She sounded sincere. And she had pinky-promised. So she was definitely safe. So Serandite deemed. This was a senshi after all. She wouldn't leak this information to the wrong negaverse agent anyways.

"Okay. So onto the topic. You know that when we take starseeds out of people, we .. murder them right?" She said the word hesitantly, swinging slowly and not very far, she didn't wait very long for Virgo to answer. Her expression flinched, brown eyes looked pained.

"Well, big whoop. I didn't know that. It seems like every senshi in the vincinity and every other negaverse knew that. But me." She almost said it bitterly. Whether it was because she was out of the loop or because of the news she learned, it seemed like either meaning could hold true at the moment. She let the words hang in the air for the moment. It seemed to rub in how ignorant Serandite was, like rubbing salt into the wound.

Virgo nodded solemnly. Nealite had tried to trick her, but Captain had straightened her out very quickly. Don't talk to anyone about starseeds, Captain had said. Not people, not dogs, nobody. But she had promised her opinion to Serandite, so she'd give it.

Pinky swears were sacred.

"I only learned it like last week," said Virgo, raising her hand a little. There wasn't any mockery in her voice, just naivete. The kitten was gamboling around the green fabric over her lap (she'd have to take it to the shelter later, like Atlas had done with the others). "I guess you only learned about it like last week, too. Are you okay?"

"Am I okay?" Serandite repeated to herself, blinking. "Heh. I guess I'm not?" She said it questioningly indicating the great mass of uncertainty she held. Outside, she was fine. But inside, she was quite a mess. One big jumbled mess.

"Well, you see. I'm not too happy finding out I'm a murderer. I thought-- I thought all this time, taking your starseed was.. borrowing a bit of your life, you know?" Her hands gestured helpless and frustratedly, her hands soon on the sides of her head, trying to massage away a headache.

"You zodiac.. You're a zodiac, right? Unless I'm mistaken? You senshi fight in disgustingly sappy goodness to bring back your princess. But we fight and murder for evil. You senshi don't get blood on your hands. But we do. And I just -- didn't know how much." She stared at her hands. It was obvious she was torn apart at the fact that she now knew she was a murder.

Ignorance really had been bliss. "How would you feel if you got blood on your hands to bring back your princess?" Serandite turned the question toward Virgo, hands shaking uncertainly in front of her. Part of it was from the cold but what made it shake harder was her own feelings.
PostPosted: Sat Jan 02, 2010 12:31 am

This was understandable, thought Virgo. She would also feel all torn up inside if she had recently learned she was a murderer. Virgo had recently learned she had been dead for a whole year, which had been tearing up enough. And she could understand Serandite not feeling good about learning the whole time she had been killing people, because killing people was bad, and of course it would make you insecure.

"Wanna sit with me," asked Virgo, clearing off a space next to her; if they were having a ceasefire, Virgo could act like she was friends with Serandite. And she would not let a friend sit so far away if she was really feeling bad, would she? No. She would not. That was just not friendly.

She frowned. "But, Serandite, my Princess is already back. She's my roommate, I know she's back--" Pause. "Oh! Oh. You mean the Moon Princess. Uhhh..."

"Well. For my Princess, for Princess Chronos, I would..." Virgo had to think about it, scritching the kitty on the head as she considered. On the one hand, Chronos was everything. Chronos was the Princess, the center of her entire life. Without the Princess, there was no Zodiac. Without the Zodiac, there was no Virgo and thusly no Elke, because Virgo and Elke were one person. But at the same time, Virgo didn't know if she could--

A memory struck her. Cold, empty space; loneliness, endless and pure. And monsters... monsters who would hurt people if they got past her. Always fighting, stopping the... Chaos monsters.

Hold the line.

"I would kill and be killed for my Princess," said Virgo, but there was something weird in her olive-green eyes, like someone older was speaking through her. "I would kill for the Moon Princess, too... I wouldn't die for her, but I would kill for her..."

She tilted her head. "Do you know what I'm saying?"

Serandite took a seat next to Virgo. What a trusting senshi. Which was a good thing in this case because a skeptical senshi would have just pierced her in the heart and stabbed her ten times over with the question, "why should you care?" Of course Serandite cared, she was human! She listened to Virgo with a curious gaze, closing her eyes as she thought over what she had done the past year. She didn't seem to notice the shift within Virgo, not knowing the girl well enough to even recognize that a shift might be happening. Heh. How amusing. Even a senshi had more determination and cause than Serandite did. A goody-goody senshi would kill.

Did you really think you'd sign up for a war and not expect casualties?

The accusing question echoed in her head. She took the kitten without warning, burying her face in it's soft fur.

"Princess Chronos. What a lovely name that is." She commented. For a princess, there must have been someone of great beauty. Unlike their queen. Nealite wasn't a beauty. If anything, she was a b***h.

"I understand. Your Princess must mean a lot to you. Unfortunately, I have no such cause to fight for, although I wish I did. I hate to say it but our Queen isn't exactly the person you want to risk your life for. In fact, you'd do everything you can to save it. " She admitted, hell, Serandite barely knew Queen Beryl enough to like her much less worship her! But having Beryl was a good thing. One more advantage over the senshi. But the senshi had their princess. So it was a fair advantage.

"I guess I'm getting to the point where.. I have no real reason to fight, you know? It sorta makes all this blood worthless. Like a wasted tissue in a trash can."

Virgo let the kitten go. Serandite wouldn't hurt it; at least, she didn't think so, and at any rate holding on to the kitten would probably have hurt it more than just letting the pink-haired Negaverse agent take the fluffy creature. She set her gloved hands in the snow, tipped her head back to look up at the stars. Once upon a time, she had fought there. For the Princess...

"Don't be sad," said Virgo, still contemplating the sky. She couldn't find the constellation for which she was named, but there was Orion. "Look," she continued, pointing it out; "Those three are his belt, and there's his bow..."

Then she pulled her head back to earth. "Princess Chronos is beautiful," the bluenette breathed, "The most beautiful Princess ever. Even prettier than the Moon princess, I bet. Except I've never seen the Moon princess, just my princess."

She patted Serandite cautiously on the shoulder. "Don't worry, you'll find something. Why'd you join the Negaverse in the first place?"

She looked up at Virgo pointed out the constellation, taking a soft sigh. You know, Serandite never took the time to actually enjoy the night. Sure, the night was a good cover. It was good for stealing starseeds. It was good at letting her sink back into the shadows. But the stars was really a nice sight.

Pretty princess that could obviously hold the belief of the entire zodiac guard. That was some special princess.

She leaned against Virgo, shoulder to shoulder, probably surprising the other with taking such liberties. "Uh. Let's see. I joined it for fun?" She grinned and said sheepishly, letting the kiten crawl up to her shoulder, settling by her ear.

Yep. It was a stupid reason. The reason she was knee-deep in this crap.
