Observatory/Planetarium - Floor 9

User Image

On the ninth floor, the planetarium is a great place to relax and watch the stars. Part of the the area has a roof, a place to hide if the rain comes. The rest is open to the sky. There is a also big telescope on the deck to watch the stars. An inscription on the telescope says "Take caution when the stars align."

Next to the planetarium is a small walking garden(picture below) with flower landscapes and one statue, a great place for romantic events. Some of the vines from this garden hang over the windows to the floors below. ... If you feel like it, this floor would also be a good place to sun bathe during the day.

The Clock Tower: Floor 9 - 15
User Image

The clock tower goes from Floor 9 to Floor 15. The clock tower holds a clock that keeps track of the time, and also doubles as the bell tower. The bells itself are located above the clock face. However, only the largest bell is visible. The smaller bells are above it, obscured by the steeple. From the top of the clock tower, you can get a grand view of most of the estate… if you can stand the sound of the bell tolling and the winding stairs and platforms that you have to jump or swing to in order to reach the top. The lifts do NOT work here, so the only way to climb up is by stairs and platforms. Be warned, the clocktower seems a lot taller and has a lot more stairs and random platforms than you might think. There is a small chapel on Floor 12.

((Floor 9 - Observatory/Planetarium))

Drip, drip, drip….

Blood dripped at a slow hypnotising pace onto the hard flooring of the Planetarium room. A small trickle of blood led the way to a lifeless body that lay at a peculiar angle on the cold ground, the back of the persons head has been hit with something heavy causing massive injury. The body had been there for around two hours already and there was no sign of anyone else within the room. Nearby one of the statues that usually sat atop a platform lay discarded on the ground. The statue is that of a snake like creature whose body is tightly coiled around a red ruby…but that is not the only thing red on the ornament. Blood marks its base. Perhaps this was the object used on the poor soul who lay abandoned… On closer inspection the person seems to be clutching something in their right hand. A tuft of white hair. The sample is slim and hardly noticeable it could be that of a small animal or short haired person. One thing is for sure, this was no accident. Something had taken place here that saw one person walk away while the other lay unconscious…or worse.

Questions will arise and perhaps answered as this mystery goes on. Who was the culprit and why had they done this? Where are they now? What was their motive? And why had they committed a crime at a school?! What is the deal with the hair?! Things are definitely going to become uneasy within the school. It is time to put on you investigator hat and act like the best Sherlock ever. With the limited amount of evidence available and a school full of possible culprits, can YOU solve the mystery? You better be quick…the one on the run may strike again and time waits for no one.

Artix Valeon

Even though Artix was an early riser, even one o'clock in the morning was early for him. But he needed to practice. What did he need to practice and for what, you ask? For his part in the next play, Artix's character that he was supposed to play was at one point supposed to scream. So he wanted to practice doing so as often as humanly possible to make sure it was perfect when he actually did it on stage. He was smart enough to think that maybe he should pick a classroom that wasn't going to have any people in it. He didn't want to disturb anyone with his screaming. The best and most isolated place he knew of in the school was the observatory, and that was where the young actor was headed.

At one o'clock in the morning.

Artix hummed happily to himself as his mind mulled over his role in the play. He really was very very excited about it. But then again, Artix was excited about any sort of theatrical role. At all times, and sometimes way too much, some other people might say. But theatre was something Artix really and truly enjoyed. A career path was in order as far as he was concerned. Literally skipping up the stairs, Artix was clearly in a ridiculously good mood this morning. It was normal for him, but would definitely seem abnormal to anyone else in the world.

By now, he had reached his destination: the Planetarium. Artix grinned widely, taking in a big breath of the fresh morning air before letting out a contented sigh. Still grinning, he briskly headed towards the center of the area. Being in a happy mood, Artix turned around slowly, taking in the beautiful pre-dawn sights of the planetarium. For a first attempt, Artix took in a big breath of air before letting out a very loud scream. The sound bounced off the stones giving off a nice echo. That was one of the reasons why he'd chosen to come up here. There was good acoustics up here.

To anyone else, they may have been satisfied with that one scream. But Artix... Well, he scowled a little bit shaking his head. "No no no. That's not right! It needs something... more..." he mused aloud to himself as he continued walking backwards towards the center of the garden, near the fountain. He took in another breath and tried again. This time with more of a dramatic flare. But he was still not satisfied with the result. He folded his arms across his chest. "That's not-- Eep!"

A few steps later and that was when he slipped. It was, of course, due to the fact that Artix had not been paying attention to where exactly he was going. He hit the stone walkway on his backside, with his arms going upward in a sort of classic cartoon-y manner. Fortunately, the back of his head didn't hit the ground. But his back... well, it hurt. "Oof! .......... Ow.........." Artix groaned, as he propped himself up with his right hand and rubbing his lower back with the other. When he touched the ground though, he felt something wet. Wincing a bit from his fall, Artix looked over to his hand to see what exactly his hand and been put into, thinking it might be a puddle of water from the fountain or something.

But boy, was he ever wrong. His hand was not in a puddle of water as he had thought. It was blood. His eyes shot open to the point where one could probably see the whites of them. At the same time, Artix scrambled backwards like a crab on sand to get his body away from the blood, now feeling wet stains of possibly even more blood on the back of his shirt. When he turned around, he got the ultimate shock of his life. A dead body!? As soon as he laid eyes on it, Artix let out the most ear-piercing scream of horror ever known to be made by mankind.

Of course, being horrified, Artix would miss seeing some of the other evidence strewn around the dead body of Estas Landry, the Literature teacher: the tuft of white hair in the victim's hand, a notebook which read "Murder Ideas" on the cover, and an empty bottle of wine.

If nothing else, Artix definitely found the flare he had been missing in his other screams now...

The sharp scent of blood assaulted her sensitive nose as the bile rose in her throat. Echoes of screams rang in her ears and she grimaced, preparing herself for the worst. The caress of the cool night air through the open roof of the Observatory did nothing to soothe her; if anything, the slight breeze chilled the Fire Elf, raising the goosebumps along her arms. That never happened. She shivered as she walked briskly forward, rubbing her arms for warmth. Her hands glowed red very faintly, so faintly the light was almost invisible. She warmed considerably. But the chill was not all in the night air; it was in the atmosphere, the heavy, unmistakable weight of dread pressing down on her. Blood and screams, a blinding white light... This couldn't bode well at all. The Elf masquerading as a Human desperately wished to be in the cozy, comfortable lounge she'd been sleeping in. Then perhaps this would all be just a horrible nightmare and she'd have a laugh about it with her idiot boss in the morning.

Alas, that was not to be the case. Not quite, anyway.

Earlier

Faraday's head rested comfortably in the nook of her arm, made drowsy by the stifling heat of the fire in the small room. Most would be appalled that anyone could fall asleep in such temperatures and surely anyone else would have been drenched in sweat. But not Faraday. No, this was perfect sleepy time temperature, a satisfying 115 degrees Fahrenheit.

Her arm rested atop a small stack of papers as another, larger stack towered over her on the other part of the desk she sat at. The papers were important reports and lists and forms and they were all covered in Armand's messy scrawl in places, as well as Faraday's neat, precise script. While the Fire Elf could always just ask some Water-inclined teacher to remove the untidy words written in ink from the paper, she preferred to avoid such displays of Watery power and just deal with the eyesores. Besides, the papers would all go back to Armand eventually so he could screw up his stupid eyes all he wanted when he tried to decipher his own chicken scratch... Feh, more like chicken scribble...

As her breathing evened out and her eyelids no longer fought the impulse to spring wide open, the fickle fiery Faraday drifted off into a blessedly dreamless sleep. It was late, after all, and even the Assistant Headmistress, whose sole duty was to clean up after her boss, needed to sleep sometime. And now was the time, thank the stars...

Not even an hour into her slumber, a bright flash illuminated the room sharply, startling her awake. Faraday jumped up, eyes blinking in sudden alacrity only to take in the shape of impending doom launched towards her as the foolishly foolish fool Mandy made his escape having done his evil deed. As she focused on the missile dropping towards her, Fara's eyes widened even more than before and she let out a piercing scream. She scrambled backward, arms and legs scrabbling and pushing and pushing against the desk as she struggled to move out of the danger zone. But she just wasn't fast enough. The tiny terror landed smack dab in the center of her face and she screamed again, louder this time. She reacted without thinking, blasting the tiny fat cow away from her with a burst of heat. The tiny cow lowed despondently as it was launched across the room, clattering on the floor with a disgruntled, "MRRRR!!!" Not that Fara cared. She was halfway across the dormitory by the time the monstrosity came to a standstill.

As Fara sprinted in fear for her life, she heard screams not her own echoing through the night air, drifting through the open windows. She slowed, her senses finally returning. What had woken her up? A bright flash of light. What happened then? Armand. And now... Screams. From the school. Screams of terror and horror. A sense of dread settled in the pit of her stomach and she discarded all early feelings of indignation and stress and sprinted out of the Living Quarters and toward the school.

Presently

And now Faraday was in the Observatory. Blood and screams, screams and blood, along with the faintest whiff of wine. What...

Steeling herself, Faraday rounded the corner and confronted the scene.

Blood.

Estas.

Bottle.

Statue.

Artix.

Hair.

...Artix?

The student in question was huddling in the shadows, eyes wide, horrified, as he stared at the scene. He was covered in blood. What... Not important.

Fara looked to Estas. He wasn't moving.

Biting her lip, eyes wide with fear, uncertainty, anxiety and worry, Faraday approached her fallen acquaintance. She was careful not to step in the blood (so much blood) and knelt carefully next to Estas, eyes going over the scene swiftly and sharply before she looked down at the pale, pale man. Hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, he may need help... Fara checked the man's pulse, first at the neck, then his wrist. Then she pressed her ear close to him, listening for any breathing. Both reports came back negative.

Slowly straightening, Faraday leveled her gaze at the student cowering in the corner.

"Artix. Get up. Go get help. Find a teacher. Do not-" and here she glared at him fiercely "-tell any students whatsoever what has happened. Do not bring anyone but an adult here. Am I clear? Good. Now go."

It occurred to her that Artix was in a very precarious position right now, but she knew he hadn't done this. Maybe it was the combination of pure horror and fright on the boy's face, or the fact that the assailant wouldn't have stayed at the crime scene, smeared himself with the victim's blood, and brought attention to himself, that persuaded Faraday that Artix was not the murderer (she had seen his work and his personality enough to know he wasn't the dastardly mastermind type). Or maybe she just needed help and she was reaching out to the only available person. Physically available, that is.

Armand. She mentally called to him, trying to locate him within the magical web of energy that was the school. If he wasn't here yet, he would be soon. He would have seen the flash of light and gone to investigate, she was sure. Perhaps... no, she wouldn't think it. But whatever he found, if there was even anything to be found, could wait.

It might be some time before the errant fool showed if he had gone to the Garden Maze. And though she wouldn't like it, there was someone else she had to call.

Isaac. Come to the Planetarium. Hurry.

What's up Doc?

Isaac was stony faced as he paced down the halls. He didn't bother with his usual fake gimp since the students should have been in bed. Of course this also meant that the usual tapping of his cane would not announce his presence. Where he was going, he could already tell where everyone was anyway via his water magic. Concentrated sources tended to be people, and the shapes of course told him a lot.

Why was he pacing down the halls? Because he was on his way to some mystery source of sound that was going to be killed if it wasn't already. There was some sort of temporal distortion before-hand as well that nearly blinded him when he had exited his room. All he wanted to do was finish the chapter he was on before going to bed, though he didn't intend to read eight more after that and make it to the current hour, but the aforementioned things had interrupted his time.

He knew he was about to run into someone in the hall, and thus stopped before rounding the corner. The thing about his particular active magic was that it was undetectable to those that weren't looking for it, so no student would ever notice the affects. But the drawback was, Isaac could rarely tell who each source of water was. Amorphous blobs weren't terribly recognizable.

Waiting, he realized immediately who it was when they came around. "Artix?" Isaac was doing this more to announce himself than gain Artix's attention. Then again, Isaac was in his blue furisode, so he was probably pretty noticeable. Isaac tilted his head ever so slightly as he started to notice not only how frazzled the student was, but just how much blood he was wearing on the outside.

"What happened? You alright?" Artix would never hurt anyone, and even if he was possessed by something he would never be capable of harming Isaac. Isaac's face did show some concern, but little else. No student should have been exposed to something that lead to that much blood. Sure, some injuries here and there were fine, but this was excessive.

(Sweet hell, there are so many flow issues with this post that I don't even know where to begin to apologize.

Also, Isaac should be on the scene next post.)

Artix Valeon

Because he was too busy freaking out and screaming about finding an actual dead body right in front of him, and getting his clothes stained with Estas' blood, Artix didn't hear Faraday run into the room. He was so catatonic that he barely even saw the flicker of movement as the assistant headmistress moved to check the Literature professor's pulse, of which there was none as Estas was most definitely and clearly dead at the moment.

But of course, when Faraday spoke his name, Artix literally would have jumped ten feet in the air out of fright. Her tone and mannerisms at the moment certainly didn't help his ridiculously frazzled nerves either! Couldn't she be any gentler with the catatonic Artix? Apparently not....

Artix's wide-eyed stare of ultimate fear turned to Faraday as he was spoken to. For once in his lifetime, Artix was actually speechless. He couldn't find the words to say he would do as asked right now. The most he could manage was a fervent nod and to try to scramble to his feet. But he slipped in some of Estas's blood and got his hands even more bloody than they had been. Eventually, the horrified student managed to make it to his feet. Once he had, Artix wasted no time and made a sprint for the door to the staircase.

As he made his way down the stairs, Artix nearly tripped once or twice and almost fell as well. All he could do to keep himself from continuing to scream on the way back downstairs was to keep his volume down to a frantic whining and half-choked crying under his breath. Of course, if anyone was in the halls as he rushed around aimlessly, they would surely think he had most definitely lost his mind. That's if they didn't think he already had before entering the Academy.

He didn't stop running until he turned a corner and all but bowled another person over. Artix didn't know who it was until he looked up upon recognizing the voice as that of Isaac Armine. After regaining what little balance her had at the moment, Artix began trying to tell Isaac what was going on, frantically waving his arms around and pointing back the way he had come from. The whole thing would look almost comical to anyone else if Artix wasn't covered in blood. Clearly, Artix's vocal capabilities were limited now due to the severe shock he'd experienced not even five minutes ago because all he could manage to say was something along the lines of: "A---A--a-a-a-a-a-a- bbbbbbbb-----a hub-blah-blah!"

... That looks permanent.

Isaac stared on with the same face for a moment as Artix blathered on without any real words. The visual message was clear though, it was bad. "Shush, go to Ms. Faraday's office and wait inside. The door should be unlocked. Touch nothing, and do not leave until a professor or the Headmaster comes to get you, got it?" Isaac didn't wait for an answer as he started down the hall. He still did not bring his gimp back, even though there was a student present. This was much more important, especially since Faraday used the telepathic link for more than just annoying him this time. "Already there," Isaac replied to the fire elf, of course meaning that he wasn't far away.

As he entered the planetarium, he paused between steps for a moment. Faraday was leaning over a body. Immediately Isaac put a little more haste to his step. Jogging over he leaned down and realized that it was Estas. "Crap," was all he could muster at the moment. Taking a moment, he took control of the situation.

"Nikolai, Daryle. Make sure the students stay in the dorms. No one can leave. Aiden, arm yourself and inspect the halls. Do not exit the school, and keep us updated. Aria, please come to the planetarium with a pen and some paper. Armand, there is a student waiting in Faraday's office. Artix Valeon. Please collect him or something. Everyone, there is a confirmed death."

Isaac had used his control over water to confirm, there was no blood flowing through the iced veins of the angle, and therefore there was no life in his eyes, or anywhere else for that matter. "Faraday, has anything been moved? Before I can really see what happened here, we need accurate pictures of what is here." Isaac never so much as looked at Faraday as he said this.

He was busy inspecting what he could now. In Estas' hand there was what looked like hair, which would be a good bit of evidence. Since it was silver, it was fairly noticeable to Isaac against the red of the blood on the floor. He would have found it eventually anyway. If the hair wasn't present, Isaac would have called this an accident, despite the notebook's presence. It very much could have been an accident if Estas had emptied the bottle of wine on his own and fell into the statue. It was certainly possible, but Isaac couldn't tell just yet. "What a fine mess this is..." Isaac said as he awaited Faraday's answer.

Faraday could tell Artix hadn't taken the orders well. Not that she could blame him--he was much too young to have witnessed such a grisly scene. Still, the assistant headmistress could hardly have students hanging around a dead body. He just needed to get out so Faraday could process this awful situation.

After some hesitation and wide-eyed staring, the boy finally managed to run out, heading for help, hopefully. Sighing, Faraday watched him leave for a moment before turning back to Estas. A remorseful look crossed her face. Oh Estas, what happened to you...? Even though the Literature Teacher had been annoying and silly, she had appreciated his company at times and he was a valuable asset to the school. Estas didn't deserve this. This was... cold-blooded. Who could possibly be so evil to kill a man and leave him dying in a pool of his own blood and not even have the grace to report it? Faraday had to count herself lucky Artix had found the body. If he hadn't, it might have been days before the cadaver was discovered, and by then, Estas would look much worse than this.

She leaned over him, passing her hands over his body. Still warm, but he was getting colder by the minute. She'd seen some items of interest upon entering the Planetarium earlier, and she need to investigate those. But first... If there was anything here on Estas', any sort of clue she'd missed... Her hands paused over his face and she stilled. Oh... Oh no... Sighing more deeply than before, Faraday shook her head. She'd have to notify Armand...

Speak of the devil and he doth appear. Isaac quietly informed her of his arrival and she stood carefully. Her arch-nemesis immediately took control, informing the teachers of the murder and giving orders like an old hand. Mentally Faraday kicked herself; it was her job to do that sort of thing. Was she really so shaken up that she had forgotten all sense of propriety? It didn't matter though. As long as it was done...

"Hm?" she answered faintly, eyes riveted to the sight of Estas lying there, paler than ever, life's blood draining out of him like he'd sprung a leak somehow. Shaking herself, Faraday tried to focus, squeezing her eyes shut and pinching the bridge of her nose. "No, nothing's been moved... at least to my knowledge, anyway. Artix found... him." The only thing she could really tell had been touched was the blood, as Artix had managed to smear a good amount of it around where he'd fallen. "I came in a few minutes later, and he was sitting there--" she pointed "--and I told him to go get help. I didn't touch anything but Estas, but I haven't moved him." She gestured a little helplessly at their surroundings. "Everything is as I found it," she concluded a little dully. Slowly, her eyes met Isaac's. "There's... something I need to tell you." And she did, quietly, telepathically, relating to him what she'd found shortly before he arrived. "I'll... go look around, make sure we haven't missed anything."

Aväris

Heeding only the curious scent of death in the air and not the blood dripping from the jagged cuts on his wings, Aväris quickly winged his way up and away from the magical children and toward a tower of the other building. The scent of blood and death and fear emanated strongly and he had no trouble following it. To think, he had been so close to adding to the aroma just a few moments ago... Shaking his head ruefully, he reprimanded himself. For shame... A group of hatchlings, not even fully realized yet, and you thought to kill them... Well, he could always blame his abrupt and inexplicable arrival here unbalancing him. Yes, that must be it...

His train of thought chug-a-chugged to a halt as the tower and its occupants came into view. There was blood everywhere, a body lying still and quiet on the ground, and an unremarkable man and woman standing there, talking it seemed. Well, they looked unremarkable, but for their auras. The energy around the female blazed like wildfire while the man's seethed and frothed like a vast ocean. Aväris shuddered with expectant ecstasy. Here were some beings that knew who they were and celebrated it, not like those shells he'd almost crushed several minutes ago.

Hopefully they won't be as unwelcoming as the children...

And he wouldn't even have to crash through any more glass to get to them! The roof was open to the night air and midnight intruders, and Aväris was only too happy to oblige.

He winged down into the Planetarium, a sly grin on his face as he alighted gently behind the dead man, across from the woman and man surveying the corpse. He made sure to keep well away from the dead body, for they probably wouldn't appreciate his blood spatters mixing in with the dead man's.

"Hello," he said genially. "Hope I'm not intruding. Does this happen often?" Here Aväris indicated the body, shaking his head regretfully. "What a shame--he's quite the handsome man." He glanced at the female pitiably. "Was he, you know, your lover? I'm terribly sorry for your loss."

Alas to Faraday's and maybe Isaac's dismay and perhaps something that knocked Artix out of his dazed mood...

"BZZZT RINGGGG RINNGGG RINGGG ATTENTION ATTENTION THIS IS A FIRE DRILL... WAIT NO, IT'S NOT... Welcome Derpies and Murder Suspects to SoP's Brochure of Informationism - You may not know this- but a murder has taken place! - BUT ANYWAY YOUR HEADMASTER WOULD LIKE YOU TO KNOW THAT EVERYONE SHOULD BE CAREFUL. SOMEWHERE ON CAMPUS IS A DANGEROUS CRIMINAL! WE HAVE A MUUUUUURRRRDERRRRR IN THE OBSERVATORY! THAT AREA IS NOW CLOSED FOR DISCOVERY OF PROFESSOR ISAAC'S SECRET STASH OF WINE"

As if students and staff cared about being woken up or not by bright flashes, crashing windows, random room switching, random golden eyed visitors who treated everyone as if they were weaklings, and Artix special effect screams, something or, rather, someone blared to life as a voice began speaking very very loudly, so loudly that the voice echoed throughout the whole building. The culprit had to be obvious....in multiple ways. The voice was male, therefore it could not be Faraday...right? The voice didn't have Daryle's dramatic flare; it had a different flare... The voice didn't smell like cotton candy; so it wasn't Aiden. The voice was dancing and jiving to music, so it wasn't Nik. The voice didn't have Isaac's grouchy tone, and it didn't make any romantic references that were characteristic of Estas. It was also too cheerful to be Aria. That presumably left one culprit in the staff...but that suspect was supposed to be unconscious, right? He was most definitely knocked out and lying on the Garden Maze floor being tickled by grass.

((Did you spot the April Fool's portion?

Annnnd TIMESKIP to the next day! Everyone may be tired, sleepy, grouchy, etc...Faraday and Issac at least will be trying to figure Estas's death out. Go wherever you want your character to be, but remember there is still class...))
