Onalim sat beside the waters edge, staring into it. Since their father had left, Onalim had noticed her mothers sadness growing. It was a terrible thing, to see her Mommy sad over something like that. Onalim didn't understand really, she didn't know the bond a couple had. She was to young and she knew this. She was well aware of it even at her young age. She could hear someone approaching and didn't care to look up to see who it was. She was busy, thinking. She dipped her yellow paws into the water and swished them around in silence.

She was a calm creature by nature. She just wished that everyone else could feel the serenity around them like she could

Mawu knew her cubs suffered because of her own sadness. She hated herself for that. She hated every waking breath she took that made her children upset. She tried to forget him. Tried to forget. But it was hard. He was her first love. She hadn't felt affection like that before. He had said he loved her. He had-sired her cubs. She couldn't deal with the fact that it was lies. All a mistake. She was off walking for a bit, trying to clear her head. She had spotted her pale daughter Onalim beside the water. She smiled, happy to see her cub so beautiful along the waters edge.

"Onalim." She called softly. Her voice was not happy but not sad. She padded over to her bright daughter. Complete opposites they were in color. At least he gave her some sort of honor, being if they were her cubs colors.

---

Onalim perked up upon hearing her mothers voice. She smiled, looking over her shoulder with such a soft motion it was like she was dancing. She had that way of moving that seemed so graceful and lovely. "Mother!" She said sweetly, smiling. It was nice to see her Mommy smiling every once and a while. "Out for a walk Mom?" She asked, standing up and rubbing against her black family member. She was proud of her mother and thought her coat was lovely and beautiful Even if it was black.

"It is good to see you smiling Mommy!" She added, looking up at her with green eyes like diamonds.

---

Mawu smiled down at Onalim. She was such a sweet child, Mawu knew why her Mother adored having cubs so much. She reached over and brought Ona close to her, nuzzling against her pearl colored fur. "Yes. Just off for a stroll. But now I can take a walk with my daughter, if she will grace me with her presence!" She said with a twinkle in her eye. She stood up, ready to take a stroll whether or not her daugther would join along, though she knew she could.

If only Mawu had been born so bright and beautiful and desirable. She sighed, a smile still on her face.

Onalim didn't even have to awnser. She stood up and began to follow behind her moms banded legs. She giggled at the bright yellow and was pleased she at least got some of her Mothers colorings. She looked the least like her mom unlike some of her siblings. She sort of resented them for that. She didn't really remember her father-vestip. She hated calling him her father... she prefered to call him by name-because that was all he was to her. A name.

She sighed and opened her mouth to say something but closed it again. She didn't really know what she was going to ask. Perhaps something about her father or perhaps.. that inkling question she had... something she sort of knew the answer too. "Mom.. when you leave, I want to go too!" She blurted out.

Mawu walked, ever so observant of the presence behind her. She looked over her shoulder and smiled. Seeing little Onalim behind her, walking so lovely and sweet realyl made her happy. All her cubs made her happy in reality. It was a bit of happiness in a s**t load of sadness. She saw Onalim make the motion of speaking and noticed her pause. "Hm?" She questioned, slowing so they were side by side.

The question sort of caught her by surprise but she was half expecting it. She sighed, looking down at her paws. "I don't know if I can leave Onalim. This is my home but.. I feel there is nothing here for me." She said, looking dazed. "If I do leave.. I can't make you stay. That would be hypocritical!" She added.

---

Onalim waited the answer anxiously. She wanted to go with her mom. She loved her family here but had a special connection with the only parent she really knew. "I want to go Mother! You can't stop me... thats right! I am going whether you like it or not. When you are ready. I will follow. You are my only mother.. grandma and grandpa would like it that way! They will understand Mother! They know!" She said hurridly.

She gave a few bounding steps in happiness. "And Father left you... so I never plan on leaving you ever!" She said, smiling. "You and I... together forever!"

Mawu didn't know how she felt of her child wanting to leave with her. She wanted her family to stay together. It was all they had, each other. But her mother already had so many cubs leave the pride and it was shameful and who knew what the outside world was like. Sure she had wandered onto the borders and taken a few daring steps off lands, but that was it.

She was a bit nervous about the thougtht. "Yes well... I haven't decided. And you shouldn't act so happy about it! This is serious Onalim... this is something we may regret if we go... " She said sternly. She wasn't really fond of her cub being so happy about such a terrible and shameful thing. They would certainly lose all honor in it. This was serious.

Onalim made a face. "I know mom! I am not going to worry about it until it happens. Don't worry about that. I ain't. we will worry about it when the time comes.. thats all. I am really good and not worrying about stuff.. so no problem!" She said with a smile. Then a frown came. "And I am being serious! I know the rules of the pride. I wouldn't be able to come home. I know that already." She said with a frowny face.

"But if it means you will be happy. I will do it happily. I may have status here in one way or another but... without your happiness I am nothing mother. You are my sun and my star!" She said sweetly.

---

Mawu appreciated the gesture. She was silent for a moment. She wasn't sure what to say really. But the connection and the feelings between them were close and it made her happy. "If it happens. We will see."

Onalim nodded. "We will see. Until then. I want to know some things... I know it's not something you like to talk about but... I want to know. I have to know... cause I don't want to go about my life not knowing what-really happened between you and Vestip." She wouldn't call him father. " I know some stuff from what Grandma and Grandpa told me... and rumors I have heard but... I want to know the truth Mommah." She said, putting on her most sweetest face ever.

"Why did Vestip leave? Is it true he had a mate back in another place? Did he really leave because of us? Do you think-he regrets leaving? Do you think he cares about us at all?" She asked, starting to get upset. "He left us.. he left us all after joining our pride?!"

--

Ah, questions. Mawu bit her lip. She hated talking about him. She sighed, knowing she couldn't very well not answer. "He left because he had a mate back someplace else. I suppose our relationship happened because of his lack of a relationship with her. He thought they couldn't be together because he thought he couldn't bear cubs but he was wrong... obviously." She chuckled. "But as soon as he realized."

She slowed her pace. "He didn't leave because of you kids. He truly does care and wanted to be apart of your lives but... she haunted him and he couldn't bear my affections. I did love him but I was a fool. I suppose."

Onalim made a face. "What a jerk. He shouldn't have left her if that his how he felt. What a fool. Males are so dumb sometimes. Except Grandpa! He's great! He said he tried to help Vestip get used to life here, so he could be a family but he didn't want it... Vestip never wanted to be apart of our family and good riddance. I don't mind at all!" She said, sticking her nose in the air. "Didn't want a family where he could have been 'daddy' huh! What a jerk! OOOh, he's luck he isn't around I'd throttle him!" She mumbled.

"And he hurt you a lot mom. That wasn't fair to you. He didn't care about how you felt! He was a selfish jerk. What a-grrrr-JERK!" Onalim flailed her arms. "I hope I get to meet him someday and remind him how us Kunandakun take being betrayed! I'll rip off his ears!"

---

Mawu chuckled. "Yes well... Perhaps someday the time will come where you can confront him but it is not now.

Mawu looked over her shoulder. "And if they day comes, I will personally take you to see him. I know where he went and I am sure i can get directions from someone. Then you can see what he left us for. I hope that perhaps that will lul some of the anger you have for him. Perhaps then your heart will settle and be happy with its results." She said simply. She lifted her head and gazed about for a moment before lowering it again.

"It is time to head back. I would like to go share some time with Grandmother... and perhaps Your Great Aunt can play with your hair like you like! Lets go back home sweety. We can talk more later... in seclusion!" She said, winking. She then took a few bounding steps and began to run.

---

Onalim's head perked up at her mothers playfulness. She chuckled, tossing her head with a giggle before bounding after her mother. It was like they had a secret with one another now. She bounded after her mother. Intent on keeping it a secret for as long as she had too.
