You are never too old for sleepovers.
At least that's what Calla was telling herself as she ducked out of the barracks and headed towards the nearest Privates barracks. It had always seemed intelligent to keep Ana close, as often as she watched the kids and helped Calla and Alister out. It was amazing the levels or boredom and desperation winter could bring on, and Calla still wasn't sure what had possessed her to bring about this unusual idea. None the less she was sure Ana would agree and probably wouldn't turn her down.
It wondered Calla sometimes how Ana and Alister could be related, as opposite as they were. Looking at Lucifer and Dante and how extremely similar they were and then looking to Ana and Alister at how opposite they were. Maybe it was simply something that came with being twins. A burst of icy wind brushed across Calla's face and brought her out of her reverie to realize that she had walked right past Ana's barracks. The sun had set awhile back and the temperature had dropped with it. During the day at least it was mostly bearable but at night it was suicide to spend to long out of doors without a full coat of fur. All right maybe that was a little extreme, but you were sure to lose a few fingers in the process.
Shaking her head and pulling her coat closer around her Calla turned on her heal and head back towards Ana's barracks. Glad to have her back to the wind so she could look up and not just be watching her feet sink into the snow. Calla pulled one gloved hand out of her sleeve to bang on Ana's door. "Good god woman do you know how cold it is out here? Let me in, and that's an order!" She shouted, though whether the woman would hear her words or not was a whole 'nother story, considering the wind had chosen just that moment to pick up again and surely rip her words away from her.

In all fairness Ana was more than content to curl up under the new pile of blankets and furs her mother had sent over earlier this week. True she and the woman rarely if, ever saw eye to eye these days but if there was one thing she was good for, it was sending the best of the furs over for her. Such gifts never stayed in her barracks alone though, oh no. She was more that willing most days to send half the shipment to her cousin, even if she knew he was more than capable of getting his own things but still. A light nudge from her bonded dragged the girl's blue-green gaze away from the crackling fire to the wolf. Shadowsong often opted for hiding out with Ana in the pile of furs and such when the temperature dipped like this. Though she hadn't exactly counted on the wolf still being awake at this hour. Winter tended to lull the she-wolf to sleep, which left Ana to contemplate the events of the day, read a bit and dip into her small store of wines and liquors before sliding off to bed. She hadn't intended on doing much more than that tonight but the banging on her door, stirred her from her nests and nearly made her spill the glass of wine across her lap.

Huffing she rose, setting the glass on the low table and padded to the door frowning. It was too cold out for anyone remotely sane to be outside their barracks and moving about. Of course there were quite a few insane people that she knew as well. Nudging the door open a crack, she took one look at Calla and found herself grinning. "Well its not my fault you decided to come over here after the sun set." Bouncing from foot to foot to keep herself from freezing on the spot, she pushed the door open more and stepped back. "Well don't stay out there and make us both freeze!"

Calla didn't need to be told twice, she hustled into the barracks and in a short amount of time had removed her gloves and held her frozen fingers before the fire. Once she was able to feel the frozen extremities again she went about attempting to remove the scarf and jacket she had wrapped around her. Once she had managed to disentangle herself from the bundle of what was supposed to be warm clothing she turned back to smile at Ana. "Yes well, if I stayed in that office more a second longer I was going to go completely insane." She shrugged, it was a terribly excuse but at least it was a partial truth, she was beginning to go stir crazy from all the paperwork that seemed to pile up in the winter. "And with Alister being Mr. Grumpypants per usual I figured my best escape would be my wonderful, fun-loving sister Anastasia!" It was an obvious attempt to get into the woman's good graces, but she did consider Ana the closest thing she'd ever had to a sister.
She had been working abouts her office and paperwork when it had started to bug her how long it had been since she'd last hung out with Ana, and since it was winter and there was not danger of being caught off guard the idea of a sleepover had wiggled into her mind. She had tried to shove it aside insisting that a lieutenant did not have sleepovers with subordinate officers, or have sleepovers ever for that matter, but the idea had refused to go away. So in the end, sick of working and on the verge of insanity, Calla had given in. Bundling up and heading out to brave the walk between barracks.
Unfortunately it just now occurred to Calla that Ana might have other plans for the evening. Well if that was the case she was sure she could find something else to do, maybe there would be someone over in the Hall for her to hang out with at least for awhile.

Shutting the door and bolting it, she turned, one delicate eyebrow arching as she watching the pile of clothes become gradually deposited in front of her fireplace. A slight snickering escaped her as she listened before reaching for her half empty glass of wine. Taking a sip of the chilled liquid, Ana tipped in it in Calla's direction with a wicked little grin. "When has Ali ever not been grumpy?" Chuckling to herself as she took another sip of the wine, Ana settled on her couch, legs crossed at the knee. "Sometimes I really do have to wonder just how and why you stayed around my darling of a cousin all these years." The glass was empty and now Calla had her full attention. Which wasn't all that good most times. "I mean was the sex that good?" A snort from the nearby wolf and Ana rolled her eyes. She was blunt and to the point really she was. And it wasn't exactly her fault either. She blamed her family in all its entirety for this. Seeing Shadowsong's tail flick in a clear display that the wolf wasn't asleep. Rather the wolf was listening, listening and no doubt amused.

Shrugging lightly as she moved onto another thought the young woman trailed her hands through her golden-brown hair lightly. The woman probably thought she had plans for the night. As if. She hadn't had any plans other than sleeping and reading for the past few months and that hadn't changed. Tapping the rim of the glass she was soon grinning lightly. "In case you're wondering...I've got no plans for the night. Not until I can find someone who isn't afraid of Ali that is." Pouting the glass was set on the end table and she sighed. Her cousin had single-handedly scared off more potential boyfriends than there had been apprentices coming in for the month. It was quite sad to be honest. But nothing could be done for it.

Calla shook her head, "Y'know Ana, I have often wondered that myself." She stared intently at the fire, pondering over the question. Most of it was for the kids, she had never had a family and she intended for them to have on, no matter how loud or dysfunctional it was. It was still more than Calla had ever head, and that's what she wanted for them, that's how she wanted to raise them. That much she knew was important to her, and that was certainly strong enough to keep her with Alister. But beyond that she really had no idea. Part of her would whisper from time to time that she'd still be there even without the kids, but she didn't want to think to deep on that. Alister had been just a toy when they met, the only reason she was still here was here for the kids.
"And yes, yes it was. At least, before I found out I was pregnant, something like that tends to ruin your entire week." Calla laughed, she was sure Ana already knew about her determination to kill Alister when he had first been informed that Calla was pregnant, but Calla herself had made attempts to move past that moment, Alister had thus far proven his loyalty that he would not harm those children, nor Calla herself for that matter, and so she had permitted him to live. She had even lulled into a state of mild comfort ever since they had learned to talk and function without constant supervision. Well, they still needed constant supervision but it was for other reasons now.
The lieutenant visibly relaxed as Anastatsia volunteered that she had no other plans for the night. Well that certainly helped out Calla's plans a lot. "Y'know he's chased off all my prospects as well!" Calla chuckled, "We should start a club. 'Alister's A Mean Mr. Grumpypants Association' I'm sure we could get most of the fort to join." She had no idea how she was going to manipulate this into asking if she could stay with Anastasia for the night, and she was certainly going to avoid using the word Sleepover. She still had a bit of a reputation after all. Just because she was more willing to mingle with the Privates and find out what they wanted and needed for the fort than he was didn't mean she still had a reputation as ranking officer to preserve. It was a delicate balance she had set up.

PostPosted: Sun Jan 03, 2010 11:46 am

Lifting her empty glass to the older woman, a light series of snickers escaped the blonde. "I dare say, its better you than me. Hell I would have probably kicked his sorry hide around the fort a couple times by now." Of course Ana would never add in the after thought that drifted to her soon after. She already did that. Behind closed doors of course. There were appearances to uphold and Ana wasn't about to cause any more damage to her cousin's already tarnished reputation. It was the least she could do after all. The glass was soon returned to the table and not a moment too soon, as the young woman soon found herself howling in laughter at the thought of half the fort joining such a thing. Really if she didn't know better she would have already thought there was one. "Shadowsong says he's being protective...I just think he's being jealous." Regaining some sort of composure Ana rose, glass in hand as she waved to the empty chairs arranged near the fire. It was a clear invitation, almost as clear as if she had spoken. Of course as she rumaged around in her cabinets she had to admit her current store of drinks was looking a bit slim. All thanks to her cousin of course. "Would you care for a drink? I've got almost everything in here...barring what Alister stole from me a couple days ago." Scowling, there was a snort from across the room where the black wolf lay and Ana merely rolled her eyes in response. Shadowsong knew as well as she did that Alister had raided her wine and liquor stores days again under the pretense that he was simply borrowing some and would pay her back. As if that had ever happened.

"I'll take whatever you got to offer, I never claimed to be picky." Calla agreed, happy to settle herself into one of the chairs. With the remnants of cold gone it was so much warmer in here than it had been out there. "Though that does explain a few things. He refused to tell me where he got it, and wouldn't share for that matter." Calla chuckled, pulling her knees up and going about trying to remove her boots. Whoever designed these uniforms deserved to be shot. Not only did the shirts have to be button ups but the bloody boots had to lace up. Did no one understand the concept of the zipper? She couldn't count an all twenty extremities how many times she'd had to sow a button back on for one reason or another. Tossing her boots aside she rested her legs over the arm of the chair and leaned back, comfortable at last.
"Trust me, it's very tempting from time to time. And let me tell you I did frequently before we were promoted. You know I applied for Sergeant just to spite him?" Calla knew she had probably heard the story from Alister, but how much of the true story she had heard was another matter entirely. She could still recall his face when she had walked into the interview; it had been one of the best moments of her life. Well, other than actually getting the position, that had been rather pleasant as well.
"From someone who lives with him, I'd lean more towards the jealous part if I were you." Calla chuckled and sighed, brushing the bangs out of her eyes. They were starting to get long again, she'd have to trim her hair back up again soon. Briefly the thought of growing it out crossed her mind, but she shooed it away quickly. Long hair was too much of a pain to deal with in the summer. She'd trim it up at the first sign of warm weather, if she did it now she'd only have to get it cut again before summer came. "Mr. Grumpypants Anonymous. Y'know I really think we're on to something here. I hope he realizes that the way he's going the Fort's gonna rise up against him eventually. And he and Twilight can't stand up to all of us at once."

PostPosted: Tue Jan 05, 2010 7:29 pm

The wickedly malicious grin was back in place as she started to pour two class of the slightly stronger wine. Oh for a night such as this she was more or less willing to open the stores for this. Head dipping forward as she found herself laughing yet again. Ana shook her head, barely catching herself just as the wine started to spill. Really, just how many times had she heard her cousin whine about that particular time? She couldn't even begin to count the number of times to be honest. Wiping the stray wine from the glasses and table, she was balancing both glasses cautiously as she made her way back to the chairs. "If I had a dime for every time I heard Alister retell that story, I'd be rich. Very very rich." Snorting softly as she handed over one of the glasses and moved to settle back in her former perch, she rolled her eyes. "Oh trust me. When you've known someone like Alister for so long you come to realize that jealousy is part of their make up." Taking a sip from her own glass, she trailed one hand through her mostly unbound hair and nearly started laughing again at the stray thought. "You know, speaking of my oh so loving cousin, I must remind him about a lovely little trip we need to take into the city." Tapping the glass against her lip she nodded to herself. Oh yes, she'd drag him out there even if he was kicking and screaming. After all it had been his idea to let Dante choose a present for herself. Of course Ana was pretty sure he hadn't counted on the fact that the girl would choose an instrument. Not terribly expensive when one could draw on the family reserves of money but still the time spent waiting for the thing to be made was another problem in and of itself. "Dante got it into her head that she wanted an instrument of some sort. A violin and a flute. I swear he's going to spoil her before too long" Oh no not terribly expensive at all. There was perks to having a council member for an aunt. "Ali's not all bad, but alas its sadly true. Twilight might be able to subdue the wolves but Ali's pretty much screwed."

Calla gladly accepted the glass and sipped at it heartily. It had been awhile since she had actually had a chance to relax and drink something. Being a ranking officer had ended up being a whole lot more work than she had expected it to be, not to mention the fact that she also had to raise her children. Relaxation was a dream of the past. But at this moment she had a chance to stop and enjoy it and she was certainly going to. Calla barely had time to rest the cup on the edge of the fireplace before she broke out in laughter, “Why am I not surprised by that in the least?” Once she could breath properly again she picked the glass back up and took another swig, “He never was pleased with that situation, and even less so when I was actually promoted.” Calla settled back, draped over the chair something like a large, human-shaped blanket. Ana was likely the only person she could relax like this in front of without having to worry about being looked down upon for being such a lax lieutenant. Always worrying about her reputation got so tiring sometimes. “Ah yes, I had heard about that. She and Lucifer were discussing that the other day. From what I understand he intended to tag along, maybe find something worth his time.” Calla wasn’t surprised honestly, the two did almost everything together, “Though I think it was something more along the lines that she wasn’t going into the city without him at any point in time ever.” All she could do was shake her head at this, sure they had a habit of spoiling the two at times, but as much as those kids put up with Calla felt they kinda deserved it. Being the only children in the fort probably got to lonely after time and as much as they had to put up with out of their parents Calla somewhat encouraged spoiling them from time to time.
Yes. Ali can be quite tolerable when he wants to be, almost friendly at times. But he’s seemed to have slipped into some sort of fit lately, it’s getting quite old.” Calla just sighed, staring at her wine before throwing back and finishing it off. Sure it wasn’t the most lady-like thing, but taking one look at Calla proved that she was not lady-like in any way. “And on the plus side at least Twilight wouldn’t have to fight them off alone. I’m sure WoodWhisp could sit on a few of them. Or most of them, trying to get him back into shape before summer comes around is going to hell. I don’t know what it is but he’s really let himself go this winter, he’s usually not so bad.

PostPosted: Thu Jan 07, 2010 7:11 pm

The wine glass was fairly whispering as Ana trailed her fingers lightly around the rim of the glass. She really was going to have to sit both her cousin and Calla down and see just why the two of them found the near constant battles seemed so attractive to them. True she understood why it would do them both good to bicker once in a while but to be honest it was getting old, fast. Rolling her eyes, the breath whooshed from her lungs in a sigh. Noting the fact that her glass was almost empty...again, she wasted no time in waving it at the woman lightly. "No offense but the two of you are one of the reasons why this fort needs a councilor. Seriously." Shooting a meaningful look at Calla, she nodded to herself and set the glass back on the low table next to her. Really, it was actually a surprise the forts didn't have a mini army of councilors. Really the forts needed it, desperately. "Lucifer was just tagging along just to make sure Dante didn't get into any trouble without him." That much she understood to be true among those two children. If one was in one place causing chaos it was safe to say they were both there. Sad fact but true. A side effect of being twins no doubt. As for spoiling the children, Ana was snickering. "I'm sure both Ali and our family could bare to lose a bit of coin as far as those adorably innocent children go." There was absolutely nothing in the way of a straight face to be associated with the young woman now. She was all grins and smiles. But who wouldn't be? The mere mention of Dante and Lucifer and 'innocent' in the same sentence should have been a crime. A serious crime.
"Pity he doesn't stay friendly. He's prone to being grumpy and just a downright b*****d at times but its not a permanent thing." Sipping her wine again she shook her head with a slight frown. "Back at my mother's studio he was actually a bit more, ah dare I say, lovable?" Oh she dared to say it. He really was. And he still was, once she got a chance to tackle him indoors. "Granted da-" Ana's lips clamped shut. Her cousin had warned her not to say anything about that particular bit of history between them. Heavens knew Ali would have her head on a silver platter if she was the one to whisper a word about their joint dance lessons. Regaining her composure she gave a wicked smile. "Just set Twilight on him, trust me he'll be back in shape long before summer comes. And toss Shadowsong in there as well. Those two will work him to the bone."

Calla nodded her agreement, most of the reason those two were so inseparable were their constant plans to cause some sort of chaos for the people around them. Calla could understand why they did it though, they were the only children in the fort, they were the other was the only one they had to hang out. "Who wouldn't want to give a little coin to something so angelic?" Calla deadpanned the whole sentence, though it was certainly a struggle to do so. Moments after she chuckled and shook her head, "I don't know how this fort got along without those two actually, it seems like it would be boring if they were gone." And it was true, Calla couldn't seem to conjure up a memory that didn't involve those two. Sure she knew the fort wouldn't mind doing without her and Alister's fights, but how it could bear to lost the bit of innocent excitement her children had brought upon the for was completely beyond her.
"Oh I know Twilight already has her plans for him. She seems greatly displeased that WoodWhisp has left it all up to her this winter." Calla had a devious grin on her face, she knew Twilight wouldn't let him get away with his laziness for long, and she was certainly scarier than Calla ever could be. WoodWhisp could get into her mind, he knew her threats were empty and he could ignore her. Twilight could be so much more convincing than she was.
Calla closed her eyes and laid her head back. Something in Ana's words stung. She knew she fought to much with Alister, and it wasn't even that she enjoyed it. Calla knew she could have a temper at times, but the way she reacted to Alister was strange even to her. She wouldn't mind a councilor actually, somehow her words were constantly eluding her whenever she tried to speak with him, replaced with an illogical anger. Calla sighed, picking up the empty glass again and staring into it dully. "Then why is it that I always get the b*****d?" She whispered, not so much to Ana as to herself, "What is he thinking?"
PostPosted: Sat Jan 09, 2010 10:11 am

Angelic! Now there was a crime if she'd ever heard one. Snickering as she hummed and returned to her soon-to-be empty glass, Ana merely snorted. "It should be a crime to use that word when referring to those two." She was joking of course, knowing all too well that there were times when the twins could be perfect saints. Those times were usually far and few in between, and Ana knew them well enough to know that there was usually something linked to that sudden bout of innocence. "Boring? Ha! Try completely and utterly dead." Giving a sage nod, the glass was settled back on the table finally and she shifted, tucking her legs up under her. True most of the others screamed bloody murder everytime the twins darted pass but that didn't mean they didn't enjoy a change of pace. Heavens knew she did. Snorting in amusement, she could only grin. She was going to have to see just how much hell Twilight put her mate through this winter, it might actually prove to be greatly entertaining. "Ali says she's been all but chewing a hole through the floor because of WoodWhisp, so I don't think we'll have to wait much longer for her to start whipping him into shape." She almost felt sorry for WoodWhisp. Almost.

The long pause that followed her words, made her frown and she tilted her head to study the woman sitting across from her. If her bonded hadn't been sleeping she would have asked for the wolf's advice in this little...matter but as it was, she knew ShadowSong was more or less asleep and she also knew better than to wake a sleeping wolf no matter how calm and collected said wolf was when awake. Her frown only deepened at the next question and she sighed shaking her head. Alister could be an out right b*****d, she knew this first hand but she also knew better than to pay that any mind. If one actually managed to catch him off guard or better yet disarm and cut away that lovely little facade he was actually tolerable, even likable. A fact that wasn't widely known sadly. "To be perfectly honest, Ali isnt a complete and utter b*****d, its just a wonderful little mask to keep people at bay." As if that had even helped as far as she was concerned. "As for what he's thinking...Trust me you don't ever want to know. Ali's brain is a scary, scary place." A light chuckle slipped from her at the slght attempt to lighten the mood. Straightening she leaned back in her seat as a sudden thought hit her. Grinning as she slid off the chair and moved to perch next to Calla, the wicked and decidedly devilish grin was still in place. "You know, I have an idea. Something of a dare actually." She could almost squeal at the thought, if it worked the constant conflict between the two would be resolved. "That is...of course if you're game." Head tilted, the grin has settled into something close to a cheshire cat grin. It was so good when these little idea bugs bit, so so good indeed.

"Why is it that whenever you're grinning I get the feeling that I'm not going to like what you're about to do next?" Calla didn't flinch or even attempt to move as Ana perched on the edge of the chair Calla had draped herself over. She was glad for the change of conversation, thinking to deep about Alister always seemed to make her uncomfortable. If only she knew what little change this new subject was actually going to bring. "All right all right, I'm game." She hated that Ana knew her so well, she knew Calla couldn't back down from a challenge. A lesson Alister had learned when she'd first sought him out, and a lesson Ana had learned in a very short time.
Calla knew the truth about Alister's façade, she had seen him without it after all. Around the children mostly, and around Anastasia. But more importantly she could see it when he played. The violin was the window through which she could see that he was human. But that had never been directed towards her, and that annoyed her greatly at times. You'd think he could be nice to her every now and again, she was the mother of his children after all. But it never seemed that way, all she ever got from his was the b*****d and the occasional glimpse of him when he didn't know she was watching. She would have to live with that, she had lived with that for just over six years now after all. Not that she had any other choices, it's not like she could just go right up to him and ask him politely to stop being a b*****d. Something told her that would not go over so well.
In the back of her mind she could tell WoodWhisp had been listening intently to this conversation ever since his name had come up in conversation. Currently he was eyeing Twilight warily. Calla couldn't help but chuckle at that. If he'd been awake more often he might just realize how frustrated Twilight was getting with him. Almost as frustrated as Calla was with Alister, only in a different fashion.
But why fret over things that will never change, for now she would turn herself over to Ana's evil games. It seemed her friend had agreed to the sleepover idea without Calla ever having to vocalize it.
PostPosted: Sat Jan 09, 2010 11:14 am

A series of little giggles and snickers were starting to escape Ana in random, persistent fits and it almost seemed as though the girl has throughly lost her mind. Oh but she hadn't. Not yet anyway. "Maybe because you won't~?" Another fit of giggles escaped her and she could now see just why Dante and Lucifer enjoyed causing mischief so much. It was fun and a welcome escape from the usual monotony of the fort and its rules and what not. "Good...very very good." She just needed to find a way for Twilight redirect her current rage at WoodWhisp to something a little less...violent for a month as well. Knowing the alpha, she had no doubt in her mind that WoodWhisp's training from hell could be postponed for this delicious little treat. "For exaclty one month, you have to be nice to Alister. No ifs ands or buts." The girl could barely contain herself to be honest. Oh the dare would be more than that, but of course that other bit would fall on Alister. Not that she would tell Calla that. Oh no, it would be so much more fun to dart around the fort playing match maker. Now came the problem of getting the wolves in on the fun. She knew the twins would help, Dante especially and by extention Lucifer but the wolves would be a problem. Hearing the low whining yawn from the den area, she knew all her plotting had woken up Shadowsong and Ana's gaze slid to the female wolf, the grin still there. She wouldn't have to ask her bonded for help since in ventures such as this the she-wolf actually liked to help, willingly even. The more the merrier as far as she was concerned. If all went according to plan the fort would be drama free within the month. If it didn't, she was going to chew both Alister and Calla out. Superior officers or not.

Had Calla had any wine left she was certain she would have spit it out in the woman's face at that moment. Had Ana completely lost her mind? Be nice to Alister for a month? They were talking about the same Alister right? The completely impossible, spiteful, difficult Alister Shields?
"Please tell me you're joking."All she could do was stare at Anastasia dumbfounded. There was no way the woman could be serious. Asking her to be nice to Alister was something akin to asking a stripped wolf to have spots instead. Or asking WoodWhisp not be fat. It was impossible, and most of all it was also inhumane. "You do realize how impossible that is? How extremely difficult he makes that?" Calla shied away from the girl, situating herself on the far side of the chair from where Ana was perched. Something had obviously possessed her friend. She was sure Ana was joking, that was the only conclusion she could come to after all. This was hardly a fair challenge after all, how was she supposed to be nice to Alister if Alister had never once been nice to her. Where was the motivation? What did she even get out of this? She was sure Ana was planning something else, if this was even a real challenge, then she knew the woman had some sort of ulterior motives behind it. Somehow she would have to figure out how she was going to get Anastasia to admit to her plans. Somehow before the night was out she'd have to figure out how she was going to get the woman to admit to her ulterior motives. She would not be manipulated unless she agreed with the final outcome after all. And she knew she was being manipulated, she would let Ana go along with whatever it was she was planning if Calla liked the intended outcome.
