If you ever looks at the earlier final fantasies like, before 10 then there is A LOT of references to Airships, and plenty of steam punk style clothing like take the main character of FF9 he combines classic looks and the newer age Furry look.

I won't argue with you there. I wouldn't have said it was steampunk exactly, it being more... Fantasy with airships. But the only reason I say that is because the settings tend to be more classical than Victorian. Apart from that, yes, most final fantasies do have a considerable steamy feel about them in some form or another.
As an example, number 6 sticks out in my mind as a good example. Damn that clown! Dx

Yes I'd definitely call FF6 the steamiest of the series (that I've played so far). I still have to play the earlier ones that have been sitting in my collection.

Yeah, I havta agree 6 is the closest to steampunk. However if they do end up doing a sequel to 9, I think that it will be very steampunk because towards the end of the game they create steam engines for their airships.

Alas, I don't recall ever getting to play six, but 9 definitely was steampunkish with their ships. Alas, the newer ones seem more futuristic and fantastic than steampunk, though I still find the ship design incredible.

Ahem... FF5 is the steamiest in my opinion.
There is a steamship dungeon, clockwork flying city...
not to mention your airship is clockwork.
The fire crystal city is amazingly steamy.

I'd say 5 and 6 were heading that direction... 7 had a very mixed theme going on.

Six the most steampunk? Are you all daft?! Twas Nine by far! The game repeatedly references how Steam is the technology that shall usher in the New Age of Prosperity. Wherever you go in Nine, someone there is recounting the glories of Steam.

Electric Raygun I'd say 5 and 6 were heading that direction... 7 had a very mixed theme going on. 7 was definitely a bit of a hodgepodge.

I'd say final fantasy is a mix of Fantasy/Sci-fi/steampumk/. The new one seems to lean towars sci-fi.

Depends which game
12 has some steampunkishness to it, some of the earlier games have it too.

imho, there has only ever been 3 good FF's... 10, 10-2, and 12. that said, only 5 ever came close to being Steampunk, the rest just had steamy references... and dont get me started on 9... that game was just aweful...

Suppose like all things, it depends on how the individual perceives it.
