Cavalier: Cavalier Jadeite of the South
Name: Theodore Angel Donovan
Nicknames: Theo; goes by this exclusively
Age: 17
Birthday: December 30th
Sign: Capricorn
Blood Type: A
Fav. Food: chai, black, and floral teas, grilled romaine (with caesar dressing and grilled garlic, it's pretty much to die for), black olives, frozen yogurt more than icecream, spearmint gums and mints, breakfast sausages
Hated Food: raisins, those vegan sausages or chicken patties (mom tried to get him into that but it was really a no go), goat cheese and milk, bubble teas, green olives
School: Meadowview High School
Hobbies: Internet Surfing - Not the best of all hobbies (here's looking at you, quest reader!), but he does have a tendency of accessing the internet from his laptop or phone and skimming. For hours. Looking at random sites, sliding his mouse over forums, and generally never interacting so much as observing pictures of cats with misspelled words above their heads or false motivational posters. He's not obsessive about it, but it's something to do on long bus rides or when he doesn't really want to listen to the teacher's fourth lecture on some war or custom. Got to love a kid that takes advantage of technology.
(... Admittedly this hobby doesn't entirely tie back to Jadeite, but it's very much something Theo would take advantage of and-- you know what? Jadeite totally would have, too, if they had Blackberries in the 90s and Beryl was saying for the 99999823483th time how he needed to collect energy for the Negaverse. So there.)
Sparring - Theo has yet to master anything in the way of hand-to-hand combat, but he's always had a tendency to enjoy testing physical and mental strength. Whether it's a battle of wills or classic arm-wrestling, he likes to engage his male friends in that sort of tryst whenever he has a spare moment. His private argument for the discipline is that it teaches him more of his and his peers' weaknesses, but it's much more likely that Theo carries some aggression he needs to get out and he'd like to find healthy alternatives.
(Dude was a soldier. 'Nuff said.)
Acting - Theo doesn't have an enormous interest in drama, but he semi-secretly likes the flair of the theatre. Been a few years since he participated in any real plays, but for a while he was seeing if he could start up a Meadowville improv troupe with varied results. On dates, he does enjoy going out to see plays and he sometimes uses the discipline to control his own feelings-- pretending to be someone else can be useful like that.
(Jadeite dressed up a hell of a lot-- involving himself in his plots. I think a bit of this would travel on, but Theo's sense of dignity (and memory of how well THAT all worked) would probably diminish a full and brutal interest in it. Still, watching some broadway clips on YouTube when he's bored might exorcise the demons.)
Gemstone: Turquoise
Virtues: Very Aware - When it comes to being in tune with one's surroundings, everyone can say that they pay some amount of attention, but Theo is extremely detailed about it. Exits are important and he's continually searching for cracks and flaws-- whether it's in the architecture or the person standing before him. His guard never exactly drops and while that might put a crick in his neck and stiffness in his shoulders, it means he picks up on body language, he remembers the scent of a female peer's perfume long after she's left, and he knows
who keeps writing with a penknife in the desk when they think the teacher isn't looking (and she isn't, but Theo is). When it comes to battle strategy this is an especially good skill and it's very likely other Cavaliers will forgive him some attached paranoia in favor of having a field advantage.
Master Tactician - All right, 'master' might be pushing it (a lot), but Theo is a creature of strategy. He looks at any situation like he would a chess board, examining those on his 'team' as pieces. There's a sense of brutal honesty in the way he'll put people to use or the way he'll commend or ignore those he's meant to battle. Theo puts real effort into utilizing everything available and planning ahead for predetermined fights (his personal specialty).
(The original Jadeite as seen in the Sailor Moon anime was something of a 'failure' to Queen Beryl mostly because he was never aware enough of what he was doing. He would plan out things ahead-- much more dynamically than his fellow lieutenants-- but he didn't hone himself well enough. Theo's tried to overcome that, which is how those two Virtues attach to his prior character)
Confident - Always an attractive trait, Theo is graced with general confidence that can be easily marred or tacked, but never entirely fades. There's a strong belief that he
can overcome obstacles, but it fortunately stays on the safe side of the line between knowing one's own strength and being an egotistical brat. When set in the proper element, Theo is extremely diligent and has a fighting spirit that can lift others up around him. As a young teen, it wasn't like that-- his inferiority complex was strong and he was the sort to fold in on himself when challenged. However, times have changed and as Theo grows into manhood, he's learned that there's more to life than festering on past regrets.
(Jadeite was the lieutenant most
involved in his plots and schemes against Usagi's ragtag trio. As a supposed 'Goodie' this time around, I believe Theo would keep that confidence but not let it drip off him out of every pore. Limits have been found.)
Go-Go Gadget Knowledge! - He's no machinery-inclined genius, but Theo has a habit of figuring out how mechanical items work and remembering. While originally it was more of a hobby than a virtue-- he's taken apart remote controls as a kid and dissected his Furby-- it's become a surprisingly large part of what makes Theo a useful kid-- he's the kind of guy who can rattle off a whole Wikipedia of facts on how a jet engine works if asked. He knows cars and he knows bikes. Practical things like that are of an interest to him and he'd have a swell time chatting with anyone who's found the same inclination. When it comes to how this virtue interacts with his other good traits-- hey, who knows when knowing the exact velocity of some random machine will be of use or not! He's a good tactician-- he'll tell you.
(A looot of Jadeite's fights involved him using outside gadgets like moving jet planes or crafting his own energy sucking psycho pods. There had to be some kind of pervading interest there and while I don't see Theo as a greasemonkey, a lot of guys have the mental database of one if only so they can hear themselves talk, amirite? HAHA-- /ducks flying... things)
Flaws: Definitely a Follower - It's not that Theo can't take initiative, because he can. It isn't that he doesn't have his own plots and thoughts, because he does. But Theo is not meant to be his own master and commander and he falters when it's requested of him. Following the prince or his captain is a
relief because it means he can focus on his own contribution and making the best out of what he's given. When he's told to take the spotlight (speak in front of a crowd for an assembly, be the president of a club, design his family's annual holiday party, etc.), parts of him fracture and he begins to break down. There's a subservient streak in him that doesn't require he crawl around on his knees, but it does request there be
someone higher up.
Anyone higher up!
(Jadeite is clearly the most 'submissive' of all of Queen Beryl's-- uh-- 'employees' and never seemed to do that well when he was on his own trying to kill/capture/do anything against Sailor Moon and the other scouts. His demeanor definitely seems to be the sort attached to a natural-born
follower. Not necessary the biggest flaw a guy can have, but it's something that works easily for Theo's character.)
Bit of an Insomniac - Theo suffers minor somniphobia (an irrational fear of sleeping/going to bed)-- thus the bags under his eyes, thus the way he can slump at times over his desk (trying to use that hyper-awareness just to keep himself from passing into unconsciousness). The issue was explained by doctors when he was very young as advanced Night Terror, but it was never meant to progress past approximately age eight and while the actual screaming and confusion has ebbed, the nightmares and dislike of the very idea of sleep hasn't. This isn't something Theo likes to share and he tends to keep it fully and utterly to himself when and if he can.
(Jadeite was sent into eternal slumber. Yeah, that would make me think sleeping was pretty much the last thing I would want to do, too.)
Misogynist - Yeaaah, not a great thing when you're trying to fight alongside a world of pretty girls in pretty things that have pretty powers that kill you dead if you piss them off. So, he's at least smart enough to keep most of his thoughts in his head and try to play a lot of the 'girls aren't as strong' thing off as chivalry ('I'm getting the door for you because it's the nice thing to do, not because you would take five years opening it comparatively'). He's not entirely sure why or where it began-- he's never exactly been jilted by a lover and it's not like he
hates all women on impact, but there is the steady belief that men could do a better job and he stands behind it. Quietly. Especially when his captain is there.
(In the anime, Jadeite mentions repeatedly that ZOMG GIRLS ARE DUMBZ0RZ I AM LIKE POWERED OVER 9000 IN COMPARIZONS. Old habits die hard.)
Easily Brought Into Rivalry - Rivals are different than enemies. Theo destroys his enemies or at least finds a way to make their lives super hard. Rivals are people he desperately wants to be better than and all it takes is one slipped grade or one comment about his inferiority in any way and Theo wants to beat that exactly person at
anything. Sports, report cards, power, interest in sorting M&Ms by color and shape-- he just wants to best them at it and becomes slightly obsessive about the ordeal.
(Jadeite's relationship with the sailor scouts was always more of a rivalry than a strict up Badguy to Goodguy relationship. And because of the inferiority complex he probably got by being the least powerful of the lieutenants, it's very, very likely that besting other people might become a compulsion for Theo-- and a very good reason to sulk when it doesn't work out.)
Challenge: You're defeated already.PHYSICAL DESCRIPTIONEyes: almond-shaped and china blue. They're often kept half-lidded not out of Jadeite being a seductive soul, but because it suits his purposes for
peering at things and scrutinizing them. Soft bags exist under his eyes from that insomnia thing
Hair: tawny and cut in such a way that it's longer on top then on bottom-- cut short all around with enough body and messiness to it that you couldn't exactly call it a mohawk. (similar to
this-- yeah, yeah, it's on a chick and it looks awful on her, but it works out in my head. Might doodle later.)
Face: Theo's a collection of strong angles and a slightly long nose. His lips are thin and rarely found smiling. His ears are obviously easy to see due to the cut of his hair and they're-- average. Not much to say there, neither being pierced or overly big or overly small.
Body: Theo isn't a tall figure standing at his likely adult height of 5'8"; still, he's lithe in form with slight muscle. He's a very collected individual and he stands as tall as he can in order to appear to have a few more inches on his side. Straight-backed and tense, he tends to hold himself wound up as though he might spring at any second. Or fall into several thousand pieces.
Fashion: Theo's sense of style is muted and usually reserved to long sleeves and slacks. He enjoys wearing outfits that might be costly, but don't
look it-- a vague fan of turtle necks and pants with zippers that end up hidden behind more dark fabric. His color choices tend to be somber greens and other earth tones with hints of red here or there. All of his clothes, despite their desaturated colors, fit him well and crisply-- no hand-me-downs exist in Theo's wardrobe.
Fuku Colour: Red-- scarlet-y.
Weapon: A rapier-- as with all cavaliers-- but the silver handle has two decorative loops-- intwined together by another swirling piece of metal in order to form the guard. (Similar to #4
here.)
