Rae stared up at the sky, trying to judge where she was. With one eye shut and the other wide open, she knew she looked ridiculous, but didn't really care. "The North Star..." she pondered quietly. "Just where might you have gotten off to tonight?"
Finally, the clouds moved aside and revealed her twinkling guide, allowing the scout to move in the right direction. Normally, Rae knew the way by heart to the place where she first met Kyou and often took her children as kits to play, but the snow had done a number on the landscape recently.
"There you are!" she finally exclaimed, spotting the old bent tree that marked the closeness of the clearing. Happy, the strange-coated vixen went right to the middle of the family clearning, and sat patiently on a long-fallen tree.
Kyou would find her here.

Kyou found the familiar, worn path easily enough. From here he could find his way to the clearing with his eyes closed. They might as well have been, since Kyou made no attempt to focus on his surroundings. The black and blue fox often found himself reminiscing on his mate and children. This trail in particular brought happy memories of when his children were sitll kits and the family was always together.
The children were no longer kits, now. They didn't need their father protecting them. Tonight only Rae would be meeting him in the clearing the family had claimed as their own. It wasn't that he was disappointed; it was the exact opposite. Kyou couldn't remember the last time he had spent any alone time with his lovely mate.
Kyou's attention blinked into focus just before the clearing. He stopped walking momentarily. He could tell Rae was already waiting for him, and she could probably smell his presence by now. Rather than entering the clearing, Kyou began circling it silently, a playful grin on his face. He moved behind her, crouched, and pounced.

Rae was aware of her mate before he was within fifty feet of the clearing. But she knew how Kyou liked to pretend to sneak up on her, and she willingly sat on the trunk as she waited for him.
Eventually Kyou pounced, and Rae toppled to the ground with a laugh. "Got me again," she chuckled, rolling onto her back to look at him. "I was wondering if you were ever gonna show." She batted at his face playfully, glad to see him again. "I missed you."
Rae squirmed out from under him and shook the dirt off herself, tail swishing happily.

"I have nowhere better to go," Kyou replied cheekily, moving back to perch himself on the tree Rae had been sitting on. He then gave her a wide smile. "But there's nowhere else I'd rather be, and no one else I'd rather be with," he added. "I missed you, too."
Kyou glanced around the clearing for the first time since entering it. "How long has it been since we've been here?" He asked rhetorically, the good memories pouring in more vividly than before. A small smile crossed his face as he glanced back at his mate. "Honestly, it seems a little empty without six kits running around."

((They should have more kids at the next breeding. XD -kidding-))
"Well don't I feel special," Rae drawled, knowing her mate was kidding. She followed him back to the tree, laying down with her head agains his side. "You better want to be here, I'd hate ot know my mate didn't like me." Rae looekd up at him and gave Kyou the adorable eyes, then went to playing with his tail like she used to when she was in a good mood.
"It's been too long, however logn that is," Rae chuckled. "The kids have been grown up for years, which is just...mind-blowing." How could it have been so long isnce Impa was a tiny kit bossing around everything and everyone? She could remember all of them young, and now she barely saw all of them at once. "It is empty. Maybe we should fill it with more osme day, if you aren't feeling too old." She nudged him playfully, then looked around the family clearing. "Since it doesn't look like we'll be getting grandkits anytime soon..."

"Like you?" Kyou repeated. "Of course not! You're a mother; that would be indecent!" Kyou stared down at her, an appalled expression on his face. "I love you."
Kyou smiled at the thought of having more kits. "Though I don't mind the thought of having more kits, raising more of them sounds doesn't sound too appealing," he informed his mate, as he watched her idly play with his tail. "I think I can wait for the grandkits."

"Oh? And why doesn't it sound appealing?" Rae chuckled, looking back up at her mate. "We might have been much younger when we had them, but I don't thin kwe're so old yet." She nipped at him and smiled mischievously, showing off a still very young and energetic personality.
About the grandkits, she nodded her head in agreement. "I'm not sure any of them are quite ready to be parents, no matter how old they are." And seeing as most of them were mateless, either from losing a previous mate or never finding one, it was a good thing--she'd much rather know the other parent of her grandkits than have it be an accident.

Kyou considered it as he watched Rae with an amused smile. "I suppose you're right," he said slowly, the amused smile turning into a mischevious one. "We aren't at all old." And with that he playfully pounced on her, sending them both tumbling to the floor.
Once he had finished rolling about, he stood again and turned back to Rae with an innocent look in his eyes. "I'm just preparing you for when we have kits again," he informed her with a smile. "Since they won't be as heavy as me, you won't have to worry about falling down again."

Rae yelped loudly in surprise as Kyou sent them tumbling into the snow, but it only took her a second to regain her sense and tousle with him. "Just because we're not old doesn't mean we can't be mature," she laughed, standing up to shake the snow out of her fur.
"Ah, but what about you?" she smirked. "I remember them as kits swarming Daddy and planting his butt in the snow." She snickered and draped herself across his back, using her weight to make them both fall back onto the ground. "Imagine another six squirming little kits doing that," she said, nipping his ear affectionately.

"I am being mature," Kyou responded, "I"m thinking of the future; that's a very mature thing to do." He smiled widely at her, idly cleaning snow off himself as he did so. Finally, he shook the snow off his head, and once satisfied looked back to Rae to see her smirk.
"Well of course I fell when they all decided to gang up on me," he jokingly cried in his defense. "They wouldn't have stopped otherwise, or else would have thrown a fit if I hadn't pretended to lose."
