Liella walked along gracefully, nodding her head when the tree branches became too low to fit under. The day was bright, or as bright as it could seem in the midst of the thick forest canopy. However, rick beams of golden and honey-colored sunlight filtered their way through the thick blanket of leaves, pooling into luminescent puddles that lit the grassy floor like a trail of forgotten footprints. Liella found herself aimlessly following those footprints, content in simply trusting them to where they might lead. Who knew--perhaps they would reveal something magical to her that she had never seen before.

As she flit along, she hummed a light tune to herself, one that she remembered her mother singing, a tune about the sun and the moon. Oh, how she loved this wonderful day!

Ahote stirred leisurely, a gentle sigh accompanying his languid movements. He stood bathed in golden light, the suns' warmth radiating bliss as it penetrated his weary muscles. Magnificent wings tucked neatly at his side, he let time wane... despite his itinerant nature, it was at times gratifying to enjoy life's simple pleasures. Relaxation after a life spent in motion can be an exquisite indulgence.

Exploration, excursion, wandering voyage, fearless flight... these things could wait. For now, he was content.

A slight smile graced the stallion's noble features... Perfection.

A slight noise, perhaps the faint crunch of leaves, or the soft whisper of pine branches, sounded off to the right of the light blue mare. Her fair voice halted its melody, and her legs paused as she squinted into the trees. However, her mood was not dis-lightened, and she smiled as she turned towards a new direction, going towards the noise, and perhaps a new magical thing to discover.

It wasn't long before her eyes fell upon one of the most beautiful creatures she had ever seen. Was it a bird, or a horse? She couldn't tell, for the complexity of the creature's coat was so amazing that her eyes were simply glued to it, and she found herself ambling ever closer without even realizing her movements.

Of course, when she was little more than a sapling's length away, she broke out of the strange trance, and her ears perked up as her face warmed in embarrassment. Not even knowing if the creature noticed her presence yet, she spoke up in her light voice, murmuring, "Oh, excuse me, sir! I did not mean to... barge in upon your solitariness!"

Hmm?

His ears flickered as he noticed the approaching mare. His smile turned wry as her curious behavior held his attention for but a moment- then he truly saw her exquisite form.

"Your presence is no hindrance to me; you are most welcome to linger as long as you wish." His deep baritone was tempered by the warmth in his eyes. He nodded gently to put her at ease, the movement accompanied by a slight stirring of his magnificent wings.

She stood as though bathed in moonlight in the full light of day, her coat resplendent for all its simplicity. A rare beauty.

Was it innocence that lent charm to her voice? Was it naivety that made her blush at a chance encounter?

There was no lust in his gaze. Here was a stallion capable of admiring beauty without seeking to posses it.

"I am called Ahote."

Whereas Liella may have been uncomfortable in a meeting with another Soquili, this one seemed to be different, for some reason. His deep voice, instead of being filled with lust and desire, or possessiveness, was calming and soothing in a way that reminded her of distant thunder--a sound that had been a lullaby to her when she was young. His eyes were calm and understanding, wisdom and respect, all concealed within the depths of a yellow that Liella had never seen in a horse. He seemed to be just as interested in her as she was in him, yet not in a way that suggested corruption of the senses and respective genders; no, it was simply curiosity, wonder, at the new thing which seemed to block out all other things in that simple moment of discovery. He was like her, perhaps, if only in that way. And it made her feel comfortable--a feat not easily achieved by a lone encounter with a stallion.

"I thank you, sir. You are most kind and thoughtful." Her eyes drifted back to the strong wings, similar, if not identical, to those of the birds that she chanced upon when they were foraging on the ground. But they were larger, much more complex, and simply magnificent in structure and pattern. Many would have said that they were only wings, but to Liella, they were a simple magic that seemed to be overlooked much too often.

She shook her head slightly, trying to clear it before she seemed any ruder in front of this kind individual. "Forgive me! My name is Liella. I come from the forest beyond this place... as for anything else, there's not much to know about me." She smiled softly, a bit of recognition on her face. Perhaps if one could understand, then there would be much to her. But not all that could be learned could also be re-told.

Not one to hold in her curiosity, she instantly relayed her amazement. "Your wings, sir--can you actually fly on them? Like a bird?"
