It was a sign of the changing times that Elke Arma's first piece of mail upon her return to Crystal Academy was not her new schedule, or even the schedule of equivalency testing. Once upon a time, she might have had three letters from her various Midwestern relatives, like Gramma Arma, or something from Grandpapa Sahin. In fact, they had called and promised her that her Christmas presents were coming, and also belated birthday presents, because apparently fifteen was an important birthday. No, she did not hear from any of her blood relatives. The first mail Elke got was an invitation from Andeon Boskovic. She had brought it back to her room, reviewed it with Serenade (what was crunk, anyway) and then...

Well, she was at the right Chuck E Cheese, anyway. Despite notes on the invitation indicating otherwise, she'd decided clothing was definitely required; she had dressed like she would going out with Grayson, which was to say a dress reaching her mid-thigh and black leggings. Good clothes, well-matched clothes-- and there was Andeon, 'chilling' (was that the right word) in the ball pit. Elke threaded her fingers into the netting around the ball pit, her expression indubitably one of confusion. "Hello, Andeon," she said, and then she smiled, brightly. "You look good!"

She slid back a step to look around the room. France didn't exactly have many places like this; not that she'd actually been to, anyway. "What exactly are you supposed to do," she wondered, pressing her hands to her white dress, smoothing it out.

Andeon was trying to do the backstroke. On its own, the backstroke was not a particularly complicated technique. In water, Andeon had mastered the skill. He could float. He could stroke. He could do these things backwards. However, he seemed to be having a great deal of difficulty doing the same amongst a small sea of bright, multi-colored plastic balls. Perhaps it was an issue of buoyancy, but it was more likely complicated by the presence of half a dozen sugar-hyped five year olds bouncing balls off oh his head.

Or maybe it was that everything was so sticky.

Whatever it was, Andeon was half buried in the ball pit by the time Elke arrived, only his grinning face visible. He squirmed as though trying (and failing) to stand, his efforts thwarted by a young girl who seemed intent on keeping him prisoner by beaning him with a ball whenever he tried to get up.

“You're supposed to get your cute a** in here and help me out of this sa- hey! Hey! Keep your sticky little fingers out of my hair.” He glanced up at Elke, green eyes pleading, “She's angry because I ate her pizza. In my defense, once it hits the ground, it's free game.” He narrowed his gaze at the angry toddler, muttering as she bounced another ball off of his forehead, “Hey, hey! Those are the rules of The Ball Pit, piggles. Don't blame the messenger.”

Hmm. Sometimes, she wondered if Andeon was a little crazy. Usually she dismissed it as just... Andeon, but right now she was definitely considering insanity as a defense. Why in the world would he want to go in there? It didn't look like he was having fun...

But then, she was a guest, and if this was the activity the planner of... whatever they were doing... wanted to do, she would do it. Politely.

First she was going to take off her shoes, though; she put them in a cubby, and hoped they wouldn't get stolen. She liked those shoes. Well... not like anyone here could wear them, they were all too small. With that cheerful thought, she clambered into the ball pit, squeaking when she guessed incorrectly about how deep it was and fell in, face first.

The children giggled, and Elke, once she'd stopped hiccuping, was laughing too.

"What am I helping you with," asked Elke, wading her way over to Andeon and brushing the balls away from his head. "And, um, I don't think you should've eaten her pizza... even if it did hit the ground."

A ball pinged off her head. She turned to look at the offending child, expression perfectly disbelieving.
