236. There were 236 wall tiles on the ceiling. Just to make sure, Remi counted them individually instead of just multiplying, and once done, rubbed his neck and looked back on the TV. A camera went up close as the Ala-Chop 200zx Limited diced up peppers, onions, and cheese to make the perfect salsa mix for any gathering. His friends, who were stationed in the kitchen to give ‘oohs’, ‘aws’, and also give testimonies on their kitchen woes, asked how to make an omelet. Remi wanted to kill himself.
There was nothing going on! There was NO reason he should be here. Amnesia for a year or not, it wasn’t like he forgot how to have fun. This place was going to make him go into a coma just out of the necessity to spice up his day! It was still too close since he last made an attempt to escape. He wanted to talk to some of the other kids who were found and maybe some patients. Who knew if there was someone with a really gory and amazing story to tell? Unfortunately, the nurses were the type to keep a iron grip over the students, not wanting them to stress themselves, and he was left confined in his room. It wasn’t locked, but it might as well have been.
Sighing, he closed his eyes, and slipped into imagination. Four years in the service and he was now in a hospital in the tropics. All he knew was the jungle, and he lost his friends and one leg to the enemy. “Yeah, that’s a good start.” Remi decided to have some fun with this.

`Tis the season to give. Ji-Yeon might not have been able to offer money to the homeless, but time, she could spare even to strangers. Unlike her classmates, during Winter Break, she did not travel to Hawaii to tan, nor did she study with furor, as if there would be no tomorrow. Instead, she visited the hospital. Normally, she wouldn't, but it was a particular case. Dozens of girls and boys, all around her age had been missing for around an year, and came back with cases of amnesia. All the nurses claimed it had been an organ ring, but from her previous visits, the truth had been revealed to Ji-Yeon first-hand. Apparently, the diabolical ploy was to fool these teenage girls and boys that it was a college for the gifted. It had been flawless; whoever had planned it, they knew they were getting the cream of the crop. It pained Ji-Yeon to see the effects on these teenagers, and though she couldn't do much, she could at least do her best to cheer them up. Even this morning, she had risen early, brushing teeth, grabbing breakfast, and deciding on her outfit. Ji-Yeon had gotten comfortable to this routine, creating gift-baskets, then skipping off to the hospital. Once she reached it, her favorite nurse Trinity, greeted her as usual. "Morning, Ji-Yeon. Here to bring the gift of joy?" she winked playfully. "Alright, your patient today is...Remington Montgomery. Do your best!" Trinity chimed, and was off to her nursing duties. Remington, interesting. She hoped he wasn't as moody as her previous encounters. Right across the room from Ignacio Araya, was where his room was located. Cautiously, Ji-Yeon knocked on the door once, cuddling her gift-basket, and with that, she turned the door-knob, entering the room. In the bed, was a male with wild blue hair, orange eyes, and a cross-shaped earring. Smiling, she introduced herself. "Hey there, Remi. I'm Ji-Yeon, and I'm here to cheer you up!"

He imagined nightmares would plague his new persona, and that he constantly heard helicopter, yelling for people to duck cover. Smiling with closed eyes, he thought how fun it would be if he had a cast or one of those slings that could hold his leg up. Without it, he set the covers over himself and pretended he lost a leg, torn off through machine gun fire and where he had to drag his body through the swamp and the battleground before resting against a rock for cover.
Snickering, he tore off a piece of paper from his notebook, rolling it into a cigar and holding it as he squinted one eye. Jack McCullen, war veteran hardened through years of service. They would try and send him home, but he’d carve out a new leg from a piece of wood with one of the hospital sporks and head right back on the next chopper. To hell with regulations!
Right now he was in a hospital wing, the windows open to let in the tropical breeze, and there was the hacking and coughing from the other injured.
A girl walked in by the name of Ji-Yeon. The name sounded foreign. A basket was clutched to her chest as she came in, looking cheerful and slender. She was too innocent a doll to be involved in the war. Remi wanted to laugh at his own narration, but instead eyed Ji-Yeon with one eye.
“Cheer me up?” He gave a fake laugh, something he suspected someone who smoke a lot would give, and puffed on his fake cigar. “Cheer took the last train outta here ages ago. There’s only death and destruction now, but that’s the war for ya.” He watched her, wondering if she would catch on. It wasn’t like he was delusional, but sometimes people got really sour when we messed with them.
“Ji-Yeon. You from around here?” A native nurse helping a injured officer. He wondered how the story would play out.

Ji-Yeon tilted her head towards the right, slightly pursing her lips. His actions were weird; as if he was performing a play. A puff of his cigar, which was just some rolled paper, combined with decade-old slang, and a mentioning of war. Remington was most likely the strangest one she had yet to meet; the others were still some-what sane, though they had amnesia. She had come to cheer him up, and if role-playing was what would do it, she'd certainly try her best. Action!
Ji-Yeon let out a small peal of laughter. "And why didn't I buy a ticket for that dream ride?" Acting as if she understood the concept of war, she nodded in a most stoic manner, continuing, "Too many people have died. You were in the war too, weren't you?" Clicking her tongue worriedly as she imagined an experienced nurse would do, she inspected him thoroughly, "Some battle scars you got there. What's it like? War, I mean. Here at the home front, the news barely gets to us nurses." "From here? No, not at all." She paused for a moment, feigning nostalgia. "Korea, that is, though I've got to say, my accent isn't that bad compared to my mother." Ji-Yeon giggled. "And you? Do tell. The tales of our soldiers are most fascinating."

Hallelujiah! He got a volunteer that had a sense of human and knew how to play along! It was the worst to just be having some fun and then have a person who didn’t know how to just roll with the jokes. Why just have a normal visit when you could play around a bit? Personally, he could do with some escaping, not having the option to walk out of the hospital right now. Not that he couldn’t walk. He was perfectly fit in his opinion, but precautions were keeping him in the room for a bit just to make sure.
“You speak the language well.” He commented, leaning over to snuff out his paper cigar on his nightstand and set it down. It was impolite to blow smoke at a lady, and he felt like he wanted to be a courteous old vet.
“From Tennessee, though that was years ago. Haven’t been back in ages. I reckon the place is different now.” He leaned back into his pillow, looking at her gift basket. These volunteers were something. Going out of there way to visit a bunch of kids, and he wondered if there were flyers out advertising the need to visit them to cheer them up. It reminded him of when he had to send cards to soldiers when he was a child. Luckily no cards had come from various school districts. Then again, it wasn’t like any of them lost a leg …though he wasn’t sure if there were any students who were missing a kidney or not.
“The wars a beast. We get no supplies, and when we do, they aren’t enough. Once your out there, you had no idea were you’re going. They give you orders, but that doesn’t mean anything once your really out there. Survive. That’s the only thing you can do. It’s get them before they get you. Most of the time your fighting blind out there, not knowing where anyone else is or when you’ll ever get out. We’re not better informed than you are. I haven’t heard from my men. Who knows how many survived.”
He grinned at her as he broke character. “You’re really fun.”

"Do I? I suppose it comes naturally when I meet soldiers such as you." Ji-Yeon grinned, as Remington continued his acting with a brilliant display of blowing out his 'cigar'. "Tennessee? Must be one heck of a town; from what I hear, that state brings out the best men in the whole country." Ji-Yeon playfully complimented. It was funny actually; Ji-Yeon was immersing herself in the world that Remington had built from only a handful of actions and sentences. "And they tell us to buy bonds! Where's that money going to if they're not even properly supplying you!" Ji-Yeon frowned, shaking one finger. "This war's a terrible one...I just hope it ends. I'm glad you lived, though." she offered a sincere smile.
"D'aww, Remi, I was just getting into it!" Ji-Yeon responded with a small giggle. "Say, it takes some imagination to do that. Are you an author by any chance? From what I hear, the school you went to...before, everything, you had to be talented. Maybe an actor?" she inquired. After playing with a certain thought within her mind, she followed up with another question, "I know this room can be pretty confining. Would you like me to get you a wheel-chair, so you can actually get some fresh air?"

“Thanks, and right back at you. I didn’t know how long to play around. If you show up again, then we’ll dance a while.” It was a real treat to get someone who had the humor to play along and the imagination to play along well. Usually when he messed around with any of the nurses, they thought he was suffering from some sort of mental illness, and he had to stop them from writing a new symptom on his chart. Then they got angry at him for pretending when he was suppose to be serious about his recovery and for wasting their time. It seemed that upon being hired to the hospital, they were required to wear scrubs AND a stick up their asses at all times.
“I’m not an actor. I just mess around. I can’t remember lines to save my life.” Reading was one thing. If he had to read a book, he could remember the details and the messages in-between, but saying a script word for word was beyond him. “I write. Nothing actually really published unless you consider Lulu Press anything.” Which really wasn’t. Anyone wanting to publish could get in. Actually getting yourself published required money and a really great story.
“Didn’t expect to have an acting nurse with me. So are you doing this while you harbor dreams of Hollywood?”

Ji-Yeon giggled, "Alright. I'll be looking forward to it then." Remington had to be her favorite patient as of yet. Ignacio had been nice, and Esen had been a completely psychotic, dare she say, female dog. However, he was both nice, and humorous. Aha, so he was an author! That explained everything. "Hey! At least it's a start, at least you know what you want to do." Ji-Yeon grinned. "It's something one can really be jealous of, particularly people like me. I'm so indecisive." she let out a small sigh, leaving traces of disappointment in the air.
Suddenly, the atmosphere changed as she broke into a complete fit of sincere laughter. "Acting! Hollywood! Please, Remington, you're too funny." Ji-Yeon beamed. "In all seriousness though, the slightest thought of fame or acting, hasn't even crossed my mind. I'm not the type that enjoys the spotlight you see," she explained, combined with some hand movements. Goodness, that could be so distracting to people sometimes, and she knew it, but it was a habit she could never kill. "I don't know what I want to be, but, certainly not anything like that. Maybe, a nun, or a nurse. I like to be backstage, helping." Continuing, back to her previous topic, she inquired once more, "So are you up for some fresh air? I'll bring the wheel-chair!" Ji-Yeon grinned, slightly winking.

“A nun! Well, I guess if you must, but you should be a nurse. At least someone can see you. Hiding you up in some convent would be a shame.” More a shame that she wouldn’t be available, but he wasn’t one to go against someone’s religious beliefs. Still, it felt like a loss to the race when such a fun girl was thrown into a convent where she would be hushed up and possibly turn old and bitter. It was like throwing a perfectly good apple into the trash.
“Oh no! I don’t need a wheelchair. They didn’t take off my legs. I’m only in this bed for a few days until they give the go ahead that I’m fine. Really, I could run around this place if the nurses didn’t keep me here. They have too many kids to look after, so letting me run off to get captured again is something they don’t want. I’m sure if they see me with you, then they’ll be fine.” He hoped.
Setting his notebook aside, he went to get up, but stopped. His parents left him clothes for when he was released, sitting on a table near the window, but trotting with a gown that was open in the back was not something he was comfortable with. “Actually, maybe getting a wheelchair will make it more convincing that I won’t run away. How about you get that while I change. Once we get outside, I’ll walk with you.” He could do with some fresh air, and it would give him time to walk over, grab his clothes, and jump into the bathroom to change.

The implied compliment made Ji-Yeon slightly blush, but the boy definitely deserved a golden sticker. Attempting to cover her previously meek response, she giggled, "If you feel that way, then I certainly won't. Besides, nuns don't get to see much boys." Ji-Yeon joked, feeling a bit foolish with herself. Ji-Yeon was grinning from ear to ear, to hear that he was okay, she practically did a leap of joy. "Sounds good!"
A blush spread like wildfire over her pale face as realization swept ove her! How stupid she had been; hadn't she remembered the designs of the gowns of patients? Stammering like a mad-man, she replied, "O-o-o-kay, umm." looking down at her red sneakers, she continued, "I'll g-go get it, um, quickly!" Not even a second later, she was out the room dashing down the hallway to where the nurses kept the wheel-chairs. Scolding herself for acting like such a baby, she winced when she lightly tapped herself on her head twice.
Grabbing the nearest wheel-chair, Ji-Yeon slowly walked back to Remington's room. Timidly knocking, with an almost inaudible voice, she asked, "Umm...Can I come in?" Perhaps she could remove her previous errors by speedily wheeling him down the hallway. It would be a nice change from being confined to four walls, and the stupid bed.

Once she dashed out, he waited just a second to make sure her head wouldn’t pop back in before leaping out of his bed, which turned out to be a bad idea after staying in bed for days. He tripped over himself and landed on the floor. Groaning, he reached back to close his gown and crawled back up, limping over to his clothes and moving into the bathroom. Shutting the door, he tore off the gown, making sure to throw it on the grown and give it a stomp before pulling on his clothes. There was nothing like the fabric of a nice shirt to make you feel human again, and he was glad that in a year, he didn’t grow that much. Then again, it wasn’t like he was going for skin-tight clothes.
The knock on the door was returned with a “Come in. I’ll be right out.” As he leaned on the sink to put on his socks. His shoes were left outside and he stepped out. “ Now I feel normal.” Passing by her, he took his shoes and shoved them on without undoing the laces, stomping them against the wall to get them on before reaching back to pop the shoe in place.
“Nice choice. I see we’re going with the Mercedes today.” He turned about and grabbing the bars, sat in the wheelchair. It was a bit ridiculous since his feet work and they both knew it, but he leaned back and gestured for her to lead the way. She was driving after all. Once out, he could walk with her. Hmm. That sounded nice. Too bad he had no friends he could remember to brag this to later.
"I hope you have your license. I left mine at home."

Ji-Yeon smiled, he looked nice in normal attire. Going along with his usual play of words, she laughed, "Sir, you really have been staying in the hospital too long. This convertible is the Jaguar XKR." A passer-by looked at the two of them like they were only crazy, Ji-Yeon simply giggled. As she continued to push him slowly down the hallway, a couple of nurses stared, others laughed. As they were nearing the exit of the hospital, she replied, "It seems that I also have left mine. Sincerest apologies sir, but we are nearing our destination." Her voice was in mock seriousness.
Pulling over to a large, shady tree, she reached out a hand to help Remi. "Let's go! Time for you to excercise them legs." Ji-Yeon slightly winked. "Where to, then?"

Remi tugged on his nonexistent cuffs and dusted off his shoulders as if he could care less about the people around him. Smug, he barely opened his eyes to look at the nurses and tried to view them as servants, the lower class, the workers that built up his empire. “Ah, it seems my ill health has affected my sight. I should have known the model. The black leather made me think of the Mercedes.” He patted the side of the wheelchair in an affectionate manner, leaning back as Ji-Yeon lead him outside. He wished he had a blanket to put over his legs to pull off the effect.
“Let’s hope, Ji-Yeon, that we are not pulled over. I would hope that my impeccable reputation wasn’t ruined with a mark on my record. I have a image to upkeep, what with planning to run for mayor next year.”
Much like their first little dabble in acting, this one ended too quickly, and he was helped out of his chair and onto his feet. “Any destination is fine by me. I actually got some cash from a get well card, so how about he linger away from here just far enough to get some ice cream? My treat.” Sure, it was near winter and there was a n** in the air, but the cold always made him want ice cream. “I think I heard the nurses say there was one a block from here. That's a short walk there and back to not cause us any problems with the nurses.”

"Ah, my favorite part in being sick!" Ji-Yeon softly giggled. "I would love that. I've been having some serious cravings for some Mint Chocolate Chip." she enthusiastically commented. The walk would provide a momentary break from their role-playing, and get the chance to learn some more about her new blue-haired acquaintance.
"C'mon!" Ji-Yeon chimed, eager for the refreshing taste of frozen dairy products, and began to walk towards the direction of the store. She'd start off with a basic inquiry, and branch off from there. Feigning a reporter-like pose, Ji-Yeon held an invisible microphone towards Remi's face, and asked, "So, Mr.Montgomery, which school in Destiny City do you attend?" Though she was attempting to be stoic, the smile on her mouth wasn't well hidden.

He was glad she wasn’t a stickler for rules and followed behind, not clear as to where the store was and glad she knew where it was. Even with all the gifts he was given, he still had a major craving with enjoying some ice cream outside which always tasted better after a brisk walk. It had been days since he really had the chance to stretch his legs and the sunlight was hard to adjust to before finally being a welcomed sight. “I really hope they have orange sherbet, but I could live with Napoleon if it came down to it. I’d kill if someone had shortcake ice cream. That stuff is amazing.” It was always great to find places that had illusive flavors that he could try out and fall in love with. If he could find a great ice cream shop, it would make being in the hospital worth it. Much like spending days in a wet cave in order to see a glistening, glowing cavern filled with neon plant life.
“I decided that after traveling the world and curing world hunger, I’d try my hand as a student at Meadowview. I should be starting in a week or so.” He made sure to speak into the mike. Smiling, he took his own notebook, licking the end of a fake pencil and tapping his notebook. “Which school do you go, Miss Ji-Yeon?” Please don’t let it be a private school. He heard there was one around that accepted pretty girls.
