Stupid nurses.

Stupid nurses finally let him out of bed. Said that he was no longer dehydrated. Said he seemed to be walking without dizziness. Good. Still, they refused to let him out for another day, and Ignacio was getting a little agitated with the whole ordeal.

Okay, so he had been agitated. This was just adding to the agitation.

So Ignacio was wheeling himself up and down the hallway in a wheelchair. If he had to be stuck there, at least he could take advantage of everything that had been offered, and he always wanted to wheel himself up and down the hallway of a hospital in a wheelchair. He saw that in movies, and it was always hilarious. And Ignacio liked hilarity.

On the other hand, this also helped him play up the pitiful aspect when he went up to one of his nurses with a pout on his face. Particularly, his own mother. "Mommy?" sadly asked Ignacio, looking up to Ms. McLaughlin-Araya with almost comically watering eyes. "I want to know who made it out with me in the organ ring. I don't know who made it out. I remember so little of it all."

Honestly, he was just playing around. He remembered too much, and he needed to know who had made it out to join him. And his mother's heartstrings were tugged. She produced a list of all of the people that had been submitted to his ward on the twenty-sixth, and his arms snapped to it, almost ruining his 'hurt child' image.

Almost. He coughed afterwards and brought the list close to his face.

Grayson. Grayson and Ignacio had grown close quickly.
Pierrette. He had meet Pierrette during the worst of it.
Fallon. She had been the one who always cooked for the second floor. He had attended at times because he wasn't as terrifying as Lucas.
Yvette. He knew her from somewhere. He couldn't remember why.

Where was Lucas? Lucas was missing. Lucas didn't survive. Real tears almost made it to Ignacio's eyes until he saw another name, and then the smile on his face became bittersweet. "Mama?" asked he, handing the list back to her. "Where's Mellie?"

"Over there, darling." Ms. Laughlin-Araya patted her son on the shoulder before he wheeled on his way, heading towards the designated room.

Melody was moving about her room, trying to get used to walking again because she had nearly screamed in terror when she awoke and could not for the life of her get her legs to work. She looked agitated, bothered and completely annoyed to be confined to her room, which was unlike her to begin with. And she had no idea that a visitor was coming her way.

Forcing herself to sit in a chair by the window, lest Araya-momma come and corral her back into bed, she let out a sigh and stared out the window. When she had woken up she had felt a sense of relief, that some how a wish had come true. Of course that was destroyed when her legs refused to work at first, but as of yet that feeling had yet to return. And she wondered of that was the source of such agitation that she was not used to feeling at all. And to top it all off she was missing a year of her life.

"How does one lose an entire year from their life?" she sulked, a pout on her unpainted lips.

Ignacio came to a stop in front of Melody's door, that bittersweet smile still on his face. She was back. Alive. He had thought she would be dead forever, and that was why he had sworn revenge, but she was back. He didn't know why, he didn't know how, but she was back. Perhaps he haad done something to get her back? Perhaps someone had done something to get her back to life.

For some reason, there seemed to be a whole section missing from his memory: how he had gotten from being a zombie to lying in the grass and being hugged by his mother. And it bothered him. Still, the more he thought about it, the more of a headache he gave himself, and eventually he decided to drop it even if his mind went to the thought from time to time. It was like a Whodunnit mystery, and he had to admit to being addicted to solving Whodunnits.

It had been a while since he had cracked one of those. When he got out of this bloody hospital, perhaps he should do that first. Or maybe he could go play a good game of basketball. His feet worked now, after all. And he could invite people over to play basketball with him! People like Lucas.

...Or not.

Ignacio paused to look at the door again, remembering why he came. This time, though, instead of a bittersweet smile, a typical Ignacio grin returned. Time to say hello to his old friend. One of his best friends. Best friend forever.

Knock.

"Mellie? It's Nacio. Can I come in?"
PostPosted: Tue Dec 29, 2009 7:27 pm

She startled at the knock, brown eyes wide and turning to the door. She thought she had heard a voice on the other side of it too but maybe not. Immediately she stood, wobbled slightly, then went to get the door. Sure it was opened and her greeting whomever it was on the other side was unneeded, but her thoughts her gnawing at her and she wanted them silenced. Because her mind was begging to get the feeling of a wish granted back to her...

"Who did you say you were?" she asked as the realization that some one had been asking for permission to come in hit her. Well look at that, she had managed to hear them! Sort of. Delicate hands pushed the door open a bit as she reached it, lips in a thoughtful frown.

What.

His heart stopped. No. No. NO. He got her back and then he lost her again?! How could she not remember him?! Had the death wiped her clean, made her into a clean slate, made her into someone that had never known Ignacio despite how long they had known each other? He couldn't lose a friend at the same time as he found out a friend wasn't coming back.

Ignacio nearly got up from his seat just as Melody opened the door. She looked whole as he remembered him, with long blonde hair as per usual. It was a little weird to see her without all the make-up, admittedly, but he wasn't in the mood to chuckle. "Ignacio," said he, as the door opened, hoping that she had just misheard him.

Please, whatever had saved him, let Melody just have misheard him. He really didn't want to lose such a dear friend. Not after just finding out he had lost Lucas. Lucas hurt enough. Melody would hurt even more.

It really was a simple mishearing, damn her thoughts, and if Ignacio ever told her that her needing him to repeat himself had scared him that badly she'd apologize until he couldn't take it anymore. But that was an if and a maybe that didn't need to be dealt on now.

Especially considering that the second she realized it was Ignacio at the door her beautiful brown eyes began to water. Oh god, Ignacio! Something screamed in her, something ever so glad to see him moving about and not taken away from her. She didn't understand the feeling, nor the tears, but she was ever so glad to see him anyway.

"Ignacio!" she greeted cheerful, unaware of the tears. "What are you doing here?" And a pause to follow. "And why are you dressed as if you've been admitted to the hospital?"

Okay, so maybe there was something she was forgetting.

Oh thank goodness.

Oh goodness, she was crying. Ignacio didn't want her to cry. At the same time, after all they had gone through, the crying wasn't surprising. Hell, his own eyes were watering, but he was trying not to make it obvious. He hated crying in front of Melody. Melody didn't need to see him upset. No, he was supposed to be the cheerful one that calmed her whenever she got upset, because that was who he was: the nonchalant one that wasn't bothered by much.

But this whole situation had bothered him deeply, more than anything ever had and chances were, more than anything ever will. "Melody, it's so good to see you... wait, what?" What did she mean, why was he dressed as if he was admitted to the hospital? They all had been admitted to the hospital! She had been, he had been, Lucas would have been, if he wasn't sleeping with the fishes...

"We've all been admitted to the hospital, Melody. You know," a scoff, "the 'organ ring'?" To emphasize his point, he put fake quotes around his head. "The lie that the media is feeding everyone?"
PostPosted: Tue Dec 29, 2009 8:51 pm

"O-organ ring?"

Okay apparently she was a few fruit shy a full basket. Or maybe no one had told her what had happened to the school they'd supposedly been at for the last year. She didn't even wake up when they'd been found on the campus.

The blonde shook her head, let down hair curling about her shoulders. "The last thing I remember is Monroe helping me move in. And then darkness..." Her eyebrows furrowed, trying to think on the darkness. "Then I woke up here."

She was kidding.

She had to be kidding.

At the same time, Melody didn't deserve that type of torture haunting her memories, but how could she not remember? Ignacio remembered. He remembered most things, except for the things that seemed to be missing. She remembered nothing. She remembered Monroe helping her move in her things.

W-w-why? Ignacio looked visibly baffled. "We went to a school together, remember? You were so excited because we were finally attending a school with each other instead of separate because your family has so much money. And it was called Barren Pines." His eyebrows furrowed and he watched Melody carefully, as if trying to figure something out.

Melody would know that expression. It was the expression he wore when Melody caught him reading a Whodunnit book, which wasn't all that uncommon.
PostPosted: Tue Dec 29, 2009 10:29 pm

She didn't miss the expression at all, a quite girl who spent her time watching her best friend? No she didn't miss that look. But it did suddenly explain why she had a missing gap, why she felt like things (important things at that) were missing. Gently she bit her bottom lip, her own thoughtful look on her face.

"I... remember coming to see your room after Monroe left," she spoke up after a moment, as if his speaking of their excitement at being in the same school for once had lifted some sort of veil. Not a big one, but one was lifted. "I remember being excited and making you promise to come and watch me practice on days you didn't have lots of homework..."

There were still so many blanks though. Several sad ones too that made her wish to cry. Closing her eyes tightly, as if suddenly scared, she threw her arms around him and held herself close.

Well, at least she remembered something. But so little! How was moving in and getting to see his room once all she remembered? It was frustrating to Ignacio, and while his expression brightened briefly, it soon fell back into that comtemplative Whodunnit look that he wore on his face whenever something in his books left him thinking.

But then she was suddenly frightened and clinging hard to him in his wheelchair. Ignacio hugged her closer, smoothing her hair gently and humming quietly like someone would for their little sister. "Mellie, don't be frightened. I'm here. And we're away from it all now." It seemed like she had just remembered everything, and so Ignacio assumed she had. But she needn't worry, because it was all over. And Melody was alive, and he was human again.

"We're the lucky ones." He offered, pulling away slightly to look at her in the face. "We made it out alright. But we have to spread the truth because everyone else thinks it's just an organ ring." Okay, he was assuming she remembered everything, and unfortunately, he was assuming too much.
PostPosted: Tue Dec 29, 2009 11:04 pm

He was assuming too much, considering she merely had a bought of fear, not remembering everything. She would later think on this and wonder if remembering all at once would have fried her brain, but there would be no way of knowing.

But, she didn't want to burst such a happy bubble he had going, big brother was there after all and he wouldn't let harm come her way ever. A soft kiss was placed to his cheek. "I guess Monroe was right when he said that something had been wrong with the school, hm?"

For now? Yea, she'd let him think she knew more then she did.

Ignacio bought it. He chuckled quietly and offered, "Perhaps we should listen to him more often. I know we usually shrug him off but he actually seemed to be onto something. Monsters... who'd've thought?" The man chuckled again, but this time he seemed a lot more bitter, a mode that was very unusual for Ignacio. All of his reactions seemed odd and unfamiliar...

...but that was because he was reacting fully to something he assumed Melody already knew. Whoops. "Can I come in?" Like usual, though, he was quick to change topics and was showing a large, shining grin that was so characteristic of his mannerisms. "Hugging in the hallway is alright, but I think my unnecessary chair might get in the way of people trying to get through here."

There were, after all, still others left from the disaster, some of which were in worse condition than he was. There was something on his mother's list about broken ribs, and another thing about a Glasgow Seven coma (whatever that meant, he would have to ask what Glasgow even meant). Ignacio eventually came back to reality a bit after she had responded to his question, and he wheeled himself forward, taking Melody with him while he laughed.
PostPosted: Tue Dec 29, 2009 11:35 pm

She let out a squeaking laugh as he wheeled them into her room, arms around his neck and she seated in his lap. It was almost like things were back to normal, like nothing had ever gone wrong and the world was as it should be. Well, in her hospital room where reality was safe anyway.

"So why are you in a wheelchair, Mr. Araya?" she asked with a teasing tone, a grin on her tanned face.

If she had noticed his oddness she paid it no mind, figuring it tied into what ever he was going on about the school. People had a way of changing in some ways, this was probably his. But she wouldn't care as long as he kept being there for her. Randomly, seemingly, she placed another kiss to his cheek.

Melody's laughter was infectious, and he laughed too, loudly and enthusastically in a way that he hadn't for days, weeks. It was good to have Melody back. Perhaps, he was glad to have her back in a way she wouldn't be able to understand for a long time.

"Okay okay, I'm in a wheelchair to play up the sympathy card." He laughed, gesturing to his legs. "They're functioning just fine and I'm no longer dizzy when I sit up, but see, I knew that if I played on Mama's heartstrings she would let me see the survivor list, and if I looked pitiful, well..." His thoughts wandered briefly, but he was able to bring them back to something cheerful with another laugh.

Ignacio glanced behind him to the door out to the hallway. "Well, that and I've always wanted to have a wheelchair race in a hospital hallway." 'Always wanted' usually was code for, 'I really, really want to right now', as Melody would know. "It always looked so hilarious in the movies and I have the perfect chance with this chair." Ignacio was a shameless five-year-old. He was not afraid to admit this, for he was shameless.
