Training was never easy. There was constant amounts of it, and cleaning up after Makereth was never fun. The dragon was quite lucky that she appreciated his company so much, or she would have kicked him far away long ago. Or, so she threatened.

Today was an escape day: A day where Uuni made sure there was nothing scheduled, made sure that she (and Makereth) did not get into any trouble, and that she had nothing else planned.

Makereth, to speak of, was exceedingly excited. His youthful exuberance was in full force and he nearly bounded down the hallway. Uuni was following with a smile on her face and a brown firelizard with a letter attached to his ankle in her arms. He was sleeping. It was customary.

The walk was long, winding through the entire Weyr to get to the candidate's side. But, eventually, Uuni recognized the wear and tear that marked Avery's small incave of rock and the furnishings therein entirely proved she had found the right spot if Avery herself had not.

"Can I come in?" Uuni asked, knocking on the outside of the door.

Makereth didn't bother to deal with such eccentricities. He barged right through, his big, growing body barely fitting through the doorway as he shoved his muzzle into Avery's stomach and rumbled a loud, proud greeting.

Avery had something to show them!

The air was torn by a pop and a screech as Sparta appeared from between, verbally berating Makereth for daring to touch HER human. The green lizard was casually swatted away by Avery, who sighed as if the shrieking was routine--which it was. The sassy candidate had been lying on her side on her cot, back toward the door, though the knock had made her roll over--right into Makereth's muzzle.

"Goodness, you've gotten large, mmn? Sparta, shut up, you hateful thing!" Hazel eyes lifted to meet Uuni's and she nodded, a smile coming unbidden to her lips as she scratched the blue weyrling. Even if she was in a sad, bad mood most of the time, seeing Uuni made her happy... Which really annoyed her.

Still! Something good. "Kessy brought me a gift from Father." Getting to her feet, she gestured to the cot, where a small, goldeny-bronze curled up, apparently undisturbed by Sparta's rage. It'd been happening since he'd hatched, after all. Cheerful, swirling blue eyes looked up at the group, and he tilted his head curiously at Makereth.

"That one is Adorn." Waving a hand to dismiss it, she turned to Uuni. "Did you... want something?"

Uuni winced and went to cover her ears, almost dropping the brown firelizard in the process. One she still really hadn't named. It had several variations of "lazy, fat, brown," and a few cusswords to go with it. There was a rule she was following that his name would suddenly appear and she would simply use that one from that moment forward. Obviously, his name had not appeared to the world yet.

Makereth, for his part, did not mind the screeching in the least. He looked up at the firelizard above him and cooed out a soft greeting to it. The tip of his chin happened to be just right so Avery could scratch his itchy scales.

Uuni took Avery's conversation with her dragon as an invitation to enter, and she did so with the air of a good friend: she looked around in a very nosy manner before Avery's voice distracted her.

"What?" Uuni's voice was that of disbelief. "No," she answered, shaking her head, turning her attention back to a cabinet to see if there was anything else new. "Makereth wanted to see you," she further explained, thinking that would get Avery out of her hair.

After she decided that she was a bit insulted by the statement (though she really wasn't), she added, "I don't need something every time I come to see you."

Makereth was busy watching the golden colored bronze. They were such shiny-coated critters, golds and bronzes. Almost exciting in a way. Deciding it would be amusing, Makereth reached out quickly and grasped the bronze by the tail. They were strong, so he knew the action wouldn't hurt the animal, but sometimes they made a fuss over it. Uuni's brown was far too lazy, and far too used to it, to care about being picked up and swung by the tail any longer.

"... Oh? How sweet of him." Pale hazel eyes caught Uuni's investigative glances about her room and Avery allowed a small smile to touch the corner's of her lips, knowing that the brunette was looking for signs of change, of news in the still-Candidate's life. Of course, she wouldn't find much to go off of, as Avery kept her space neatly organized and clean.

Of course, on Avery's small desk there was a small gift, a flower beside it, but that was ambiguous. A freshly penned letter, folded and sealed. A new shirt was thrown over the edge of her bed, and the matching boots at the foot of the cot. Nothing to see here.

"If you're done fondling my things with your pretty blue eyes, I do need something from you."

Adorn found himself upside down, uncurling from his ball to hang by the tail, his feet and clawed hands tucked in close to his body as he chirped at Makereth. Avery didn't make a habit of holding him like this. Yawning, the newborn began to let himself swing back and forth, his cobalt eyes showing curious delight.

Just how fast he could get going before shooting out of Makereth's grip? They were about to find out.

"Yeah," Uuni answered, her eyes still looking. "He gets pretty excited to see you." Which wasn't a lie, just a very good excuse.

Delighted by the swinging bronze, Makereth helped him out, moving his head from side to side. And when the little creature was at the height of an arc, Makereth opened his jaw and let out a triumphant squawk, his eyes following where the bronze went with excited curiousity.

Uuni was soured by the lack of things to call Avery out on, and she rolled her eyes at the statement of 'pretty blue eyes. "Yeah, yeah, I know, I know." She turned to Avery, a grin appearing on her lips and then vanishing in the same moment as she realized what the girl had asked. "Wait, what?"

There was a moment of silence, before she added. "If it's about Kesslan, I'm not doing it."

Settling herself on the cot, she leaned back against the wall. "Please tell me it's something fun."

Unfortunately, Adorn didn't really have that whole 'rapidly unfurling wings' thing down and rocketed toward the wall at an alarming speed. Still, instincts prevailed and as Avery jumped to her feet in surprise, the bronze disappeared Between with nary a sound.

Sparta, of course, flipped out, prepping to dive-bomb the blue, before she was smacked aside mid-swoop by a frustrated, curly-haired brunette. She'd gotten very fast about that, and generally assumed Sparta would be attacking if anything in the room changed without warning. She was usually correct in that assumption.

A squawk, and Sparta disappeared as well. Shaking out her hair, Avery turned to fold her arms across her chest, her face carefully blank. "Hm? Kesslan? How did you know? I realize you're busy having a dragon and all, but you're quarters are a lot closer than mine and Sparta can't be trusted to deliver anything." And Adorn was too little, but that went without saying.

She gestured casually to the gift on her desk. "She's been gone so frequently the past fortnights, or out practicing with her wing. I'd really appreciate it if you could bring it to her. It'll be fun. Everyone loves presents."

What she really needed, though, was for Uuni to give that letter to B'shir. That could come later, though.

Kesslan is the nice girl with the green! Uuni is silly for being nervous over a thing like that.. Which he broadcasted, quite unfortunately, to Avery as well as Uuni.

"Right, everybody loves presents." Later. s**t. s**t. s**t. "What'd you get her, anyway?" She looked over the gift, trying to guess, and hid the fact that she was a bit jealous about Avery going out of her way for Kesslan.

As if to make up for this fact, she added, in quick tones, "So, we were headed for klah. You coming?"
PostPosted: Sat Jan 23, 2010 7:15 pm

Avery's wide grin was entirely predatory and she reached for her warm, stylish coat, doing the toggles in the front as she tilted her head at the older female. "I suppose I could be persuaded." Gloves were pulled on and she reached out to slip both the letter and the present into a pocket.

Brushing aside the first question, she led the away into the hall, aware of the awkward attention she was giving the positioning of their bodies. They didn't touch as they squeezed out the opening of the room, though if that was on purpose, Avery couldn't tell.

"You're addicted to klah," Like half of the damned Weyr. Kesslan was a lot better off, with her avoidance of the stuff. "but I'm feeling a little hungry, so why not?"

The thing with Avery, is that you never really had to persuade her. Uuni offered her a smile in return for the predatory grin, knowing full well what it meant. Had Kesslan been smiling like that, she might have thought about heading a different direction, but this was Avery. No threat, right?

Moving out the door was teeth-grinding at best, and Uuni found herself giving a nervous glance back to Makereth as they went. Perhaps klah had been a bad idea. Whatever Avery was feeling, Uuni couldn't tell, but there was a hesitation in her own step, a lack of confidence in her walk, and it was defintely, certainly, all damned Avery's fault.

So, naturally, she'd be back next week to suffer through this again. Addiction clearly didn't stop at klah.

There was no denying Avery's statement, and although Uuni searched and searched for something to say in return, she came up with a measly, "Oh, come on. I'm not that bad. It's not like a drug. I won't randomly stab you while drinking too much klah."

It was bad, even by her standards. Makereth's grin was overly pleased as he bounded in front of the pair, leading the way to the kitchen.

"Hey, what would I have to do to get you to bring me something?" Uuni offered Avery a wink and settled down at a chair, fully expecting to get one of two things: a klah, or a verbal tongue lashing.

Avery was certainly in one of her moods, though it was hard to tell which one. She seemed to have gotten some of the swagger back into her stride and neglected to respond to Uuni's feeble attempt at a rebuttal with more than a 'Hmm'ing sound.

Uuni was seated and Avery took the shorter way around the table, choosing to walk behind the older brunette, her fingers skimming over the back of the chair as she moved toward the serving area. Without a word she left Uuni and reappeared, a steaming mug in hand. Setting it in front of the weyrling, she didn't choose to sit down. "Absolutely nothing." A quick, friendly smile, arched brows raised innocently.

"Or, did you have something in mind already?"

Uuni took the klah and held it up to take a long, pleased smell. Damn, she needed this. Between lessons and running around the Weyr after Makereth, she'd been feeling a bit whipped.

"No, no, nothing," Uuni answered back, leaning forwards to rest her elbows on the table.

"Why would I have anything in mind?" She made a face at Makereth and looked the opposite direction.

"You going to sit down, or stand there looking like a prostitute?"
PostPosted: Sat Jan 23, 2010 8:03 pm

"Being paid when I'm ******** over would be a pleasant change, actually," mused the brunette as she pulled out a chair, settling in it close enough to brush against Uuni. Her fingertips found Makereth's hide and she absently began to stroke him, hazel eyes absently tracking the bluerider's movements and clear pleasure as she drank from the mug.

Makereth was her friend, in this situation and she planned on always being nice to the lovable blue. He had yet to play a prank on her, and really, she could probably get him to play one on Uuni.

"I'm sorry, love, I almost forgot that you rarely have anything of import going on in that thick skull of yours." Avery's tone was almost adoring, the way her words came out honeyed and smooth. A pause and the volume of her voice lowered, expression carefully blank.

"You look tired." Avery had no idea how much [or little] sleep Uuni had been getting, as the weyrling certainly hadn't been doing it beside her.

The words 'pleasant change' caused Uuni's mouth to break into a broad grin.

"How much do I owe you?" she asked, taking another sip of klah to keep herself from saying anything further.

That thing that Avery was thinking about pranking Uuni? Makereth would have been more than willing. It was harder to plan these things when she was ready for them, but Makereth was sure there was a way, and if Avery wanted to help him? The more the merrier!

His tail hit the ground several times, and he turned his head to give Avery better places to scratch. The scratches were delightful, and the emotions flickered their way down the emotional connect. It eased the nervous awkardness due to absence and when Avery brushed up against her, she subconsciously leaned in.

The statement caused her to frown. "I'm wide awake," Uuni corrected her. A horrible lie, she absolutely was tired. And Makereth told Avery so, ever looking out for Uuni.

". . . maybe I need a small rest. But it's not as though I'm not functional." Uuni covered. "I'm fine. Absolutely."

"Try me."
