Allegro was a collared cat, but was that so wrong? He had to admit that he was seeing his owner less and less these days. It was not her fault though. The Manx could see that the human deeply cared for him. Reality was that she was succeeding in her job and climbing the ladder of success, but reaching higher and higher meant more work, less time for herself – and her cats. Allegro understood that. The apartment was always quiet and empty though, his owner seemed to have a tendency to obtain outdoor cats, including himself.

So he was out and about the town, strolling along the sidewalk, weaving between the shuffling humans who were intent on heading to their destinations. There weren’t that many today though, dull clouds covered the sky and the once-colorful world turned monotone and gloomy. It was lonesome, but the feeling was familiar to Allegro. Who knows? Maybe he would meet another cat that he could converse with.

And that was when God decided to answer his wish.

Moving down the walk at a light, brisk pace, a dappled bobtail made her way back towards her home. A short, petticoat-fluffed black skirt swished about her thighs as she moved, and she zipped up her black hoodie the rest of the way. Atop her head, two dusty-grey ears twitched anxiously; from the clouds overhead, it seemed like it was getting ready to snow, and Demi had to make sure nothing she didn't want to would get wet. Fortunately, there were few humans about, and dodging around the ones that were was easy enough. She really wasn't paying that much attention to what was further in front of her than a few feet, however, and when she happened to realize there was another cat standing before her, heading in the direction opposite her, she bounced to a stop. A light jingle escaped the bell tied into her hair, her final memory of the family she almost had, and bronze colored eyes widened a little in recognition. "Ah! Hey, aren't you... Allegro?" Her lips parted as she panted lightly from her exercising walk, then she gave him a small smile, "You are, right? How have you been?" A storm was coming in for certain, but that was no reason to ignore a familiar face. The Bobtail noticed that he was still wearing his collar, and tilted her head a little at it. Was this tom still with his humans? Or perhaps he had already severed ties with them and would need a place to get out of the weather that was approaching?

Allegro was secretly hoping that he would meet a familiar face, or at least another feline to speak with. He wasn’t betting on that happening, though. All he seemed to find in this city were humans, humans, and more humans. Was that so surprising, though? Humans were everywhere and cats one of their many animal companions.

His warm, orange-brown eyes were focused straight ahead of him, paying little attention to the humans around, including the passing cat. Lucky for the Manx, she had noticed him, recognized his face. She stopped, bells jingling. Hearing the ringing, his ears twitched and Allegro curiously stopped mid-step.

He angled his head to curiously stare at the bobtail. Then his eyes lit up, recalling the girl’s name. Allegro widely grinned, turning around to completely face her. “Indeed I am. It’s a pleasure to meet you again, Miss Demi,” he politely greeted with a quick dip of his head. “I see you’re looking as beautiful as ever.”

His smile grew wider. “I’ve been doing fine. My owner is really busy these days, so I decided to take a walk to pass the time,” answered the cat. Then Allegro lowered his head toward her. “And what about yourself? Been enjoying your life as a free cat, have you?” He lightheartedly laughed.

Demi smiled at the tom as he gave a bow of his head. "Always quick with a flattering word, huh?" She questioned, giggling with amusement. The girl flicked one of her ears and put a hand on her hip, interested to learn that he was still living with his humans. Ah well, it was understandable, if one has a good family, they might be reluctant to leave, no matter how often one is left alone. "Being free is the best thing there is. It wasn't like I had a choice, either way though." She myewed, glancing up at the rolling clouds overhead, "Ah, are you sure they're gonna be around to let you in? It's getting ready to start snowing, you know." With a hint of worry in her bronze-colored eyes, Demi tilted her head at the tomcat.

Allegro kept his smile, unfazed by her teasing. “I’m only speaking the truth, Miss Demi. That is all,” he smoothly answered with another bow. There was sincerity in his words.

She placed a delicate hand on her hip and he tilted his head, silently inquiring if there was something wrong. However, he could see her thoughts through her eyes. Collared? He was still collared? Yes, Allegro still was. The Manx could not bear to leave his caring owner, not just yet. He wanted to stay with her for just a bit longer.

“Didn’t have a choice, huh?” he mused and lifted his head to stare up at the ominous sky. “I’m an outdoors cat anyways. A little snow isn’t going to send me running home,” answered Allegro, turning to look back at Demi. “Why don’t we grab something to eat instead?”

Demi blinked at the Manx and lowered her ears a little. He wanted to get lunch? It was getting ready to snow... Natsuki didn't like snow. She had to get home to make sure the younger girl wasn't going to freak out on her own. "Well, that was definitely spoken like a free collar," She spoke at last, grinning at Allegro and deciding that getting a bite wouldn't be terrible. With a cheeky wag of her stub tail, the dappled cat raised her ears again and tilted her head at him, "Alright, you win, I'll go with you for now."

Allegro noticed her ears lowered and he pursed his lips. Had he touched a sensitive topic? Was she busy with something else? Did she just not feel like getting lunch? What was wrong?

However, once she answered her reply caused him to curiously tilt his head. Then he grinned at her. Like a free collar, huh? He mindlessly reached up to finger his collar. Perhaps it was time to abandon life as a domestic cat after all. Once this was over Allegro would have to run home and mull this over. I don’t want to leave you behind . . .

Allegro’s grin widened and his hands slipped into the pockets of his pants. “Is there any place you like to eat at? Or maybe I should show you a couple joints I like to hang around?”

There was a silent curiosity between them, a wonderment at what was left unspoken on the other's mind as they talked. Demi was beginning to sense it too as the tom made a strange expression as well. Maybe getting to know this cat wasn't a bad idea after all. She took a moment and observed his posture as he prodded her for preferences; hands in his pockets, curious but still seeming a little withdrawn. A grin slipped onto her face again and she borrowed a move from her best friend, stepping up to him and turning to walk beside him while slipping her arm through the crook of his elbow. "Lead the way, Allegro." She myewed definitely, pointing ahead of them, "I'm so used to eating at the places I visit frequently, so let's go with one of your usual haunts. It could be interesting!" Demi wagged her little tail and giggled, then held up a finger and made one final addition, "Oh! but I don't really like veggies..." For a moment, she adopted a serious look, as if he needed to remember that, then grinned again, "Anything else is fine though. Seafood is definitely fine!"

To say the least, Allegro was surprised. He had not been counting on Demi sliding her arm into his, their arms now loosely intertwined. Cinnamon-colored eyes curiously stared at the locked arms, having never encountered such carefree antics before. After realizing that he was staring, shook his head and grinned back at her.

“Very well,” answered the cat, ears eagerly twitching.

They strolled down the sidewalk arm in arm, as various stores ran through his mind. Allegro laughed. “Vegetables, huh? Alright, I’ll take careful note of that, then.” Another chuckle. “Seafood I’m not surprised about.”

With Demi’s suggestions added in, shops began to be eliminated one by one. Eventually, he decided for a shop that sold pastries. He was in a particular mood for their famous cream puffs. Destination now selected, the manx looked over to the bobtail. “I hope you like pastries as much as I do,” he teased.

So their aimless wanderings began to have a better sense of direction. They took a few turns, stopping before a small bakery. The lighting was dim, but had an inviting atmosphere once they walked in. The humans in charge glanced at the cats and smiled. “Lookie here, one of regulars brought a little friend!” she cooed as she skipped around the counter and bent down to pet them.

Demi marched along at the Manx's side as he led them to their destination, Letting her hand rest comfortably on the inside of his elbow, the girl almost giggled to herself at how silly they must have looked. When he finally mentioned where they were headed, the dappled bobtail glanced over at him and tilted her head. "Pastries, huh? Yea, I could go for some of those." Her tail gave a short wag and she grinned at the idea.

As they approached the small shop, Demi gazed up at it with a little excitement. She had never been here before and so her paws were tingling with the will to explore. Upon entering, her ears perked up curiously as the humans spotted them and one moved around the counter eagerly to greet them. Demi paused a moment out of a caution she had learned on the streets, but at seeing the human's welcoming smile and hearing the tone of her voice, she eased. Slipping her arm from Allegro's, the Bobtail smiled up at the human and walked over to her with her stubby tail held up proudly. With a light mew, she sniffed at the sweet, doughy scents clinging to the girl's hand and purred loudly for the human.

Upon hearing her agreement, Allegro’s ears perked and his short tail happily wagged. He was glad that Demi liked the suggestion. The lad wasn’t sure what else to offer. At the moment, the only type of food on his mind was anything and everything sweet. Had she been someone that lacked a sweet tooth, he was unsure what other stores he could have pulled from the database of his mind.

As they stepped into the shop and one of the employees joyfully walked over, Demi slid her arms out from Allegro’s and proudly sauntered over to the human, tail held up high as possible. A grin lighting his face, he trotted behind the girl, content with letting the other cat soak up the human girl’s attention.

“She’s purring!” She laughed and immediately went to scratch the back of Demi’s ears. “Mr. Manx brought in a lovely girl. Don’t you think, Pa?” the girl mused as she turned her head towards a serious-faced man. Not one of many words, he grunted in reply.

Allegro strolled up to the two girls, meowing as he sat down. He tilted his head, eyes expectantly staring up at the worker, who giggled once more. “Want another treat, hm? Somebody’s going to get fat!”

He indignantly meowed, “Will not!”

Demi tilted her head into the girl's hand, enjoying the scritching for the time being; If this would get her food, she could handle a little fondling. Taking a seat and staring up at the humans with large, imploring eyes, the bobtail wondered what they'd offer up. "Ah, so I guess you do come here often..." She mewed to the Manx next to her, snickering at the human's comment. Glancing over to Allegro, the female stuck her tongue out teasingly and purred again, "I can eat yours if you're worried about your figure, you know." With a giggle, she turned her attention back to the human and wagged her short tail for her. "We're hungry, human! Feed us!" She mewed insistently.

He grinned at the girl. “Of course I do! Why would I lie to you, or anyone for that matter?” Allegro answered, playfully sticking his tongue out at the snickering feline.

The human laughed and stood up, beaming down at the pair of cats. “Alright, alright! I know what you guys really want,” she relented and scuttled behind the counter.

While the couple patiently waited, Allegro firmly denied, “No, I’m not worried about my figure. I eat whatever I want.”

He laughed at her flare of impatience. “Relax! Sheryl will come back with food eventually. It’s kind of her to do it in the first place, you know?” Allegro assured. “Ah, here she comes!”

Sheryl eagerly bent down, two large cinnamon buns in her hands. She lowered her arms, but kept them high enough so they were out of the cats’ reach. She mischievously grinned.

Demi laughed at the Manx tom as the girl left to get them food. "I see," She purred, indicating the display case of sweets, "Okay okay, you can have yours, just don't whine to me when you wind up with a pudgy belly." The Bobtail's attention was grabbed by the thumping of the human's feet as she returned to them and held out the treats, something smelling of dough, cinnamon, and lots of warm sugar. Inclining her head to peer up at the girl's grinning face and at the hands just above their heads, Demi let one ear fall to the side and glanced at Allegro, "Hey, what gives? Are we gonna eat or not?" Returning her attention to the human, the small cat stood up tall on her hind paws and pawed at one of her hands, peering up at the cinnamon bun in it, "Hey, Girl! I don't like being teased, I'll scratch you, ya know!" Behind her, her stubby tail flicked a few times indignantly, and she glared up at Sheryl.

Allegro followed the bobtail’s gaze, eventually deducing that she was staring at the glass case that held various pastries. He smirked, figuring that Demi would be enjoying the trip to this store. After many visits to the bakery, he was well aware of the fact that Sheryl liked to stuff cats silly with the sweet treats she made with her father here. He planned to glean as many pastries from Sheryl as he could this time around, determined to show Demi how delicious these things were.

He playfully stuck his tongue out at her. “I’ve been stopping here for a while now. If I’m not pudgy now, I never will be!” he retorted in a teasing tone, yowling with laughter as he watched Demi stand on her back paws and indignantly swat at a bun, tail flicking.

Sheryl joined in with his laughing, finally relenting and lowering the two cinnamon pastries so that the pair of felines could eagerly pounce on the treat. “Alright, alright! You win this time around, kitties!”
