The house was quiet, Cinder and Merci were off helping Clotho with a few things. Rhys looked around his room moodily before standing and heading to the door, he was grounded. He knew he should be grounded but that didn't mean he had to actually like it. Stepping out of his room Rhys looked over the hall ahead of him, even Peeps was off working on a few things on the ship. A sound from below caught Rhys attention, frowning the boy moved up to the railing and peered over the edge it sounded like someone else was in the house.
"Hm, lets go make sure we aren't being robbed..." Rhys murmured glancing over to Tektite floating in the shadow of his left wing before heading to the stairs, he tucked his wing in some before heading to the hall instinctively shielding the wounded skin along the edge. Taking the stairs two at a time he scanned the area below as he descended.

Dio hummed to himself, a silent tune to those without the ear for his telepathic form of communication. The melody was odd, yet somehow beautiful. His long bang curled down over half his face, hiding it from view, but despite that, it was still easy to tell that the fiend had changed, a lot. It wasn't just the clothes, the hair, the new piercings; he was taller, slightly broader, and both of his arms worked.
The most striking difference was perhaps the fact that the once fully sleeved arm, was now bare for the world to see, and on it sparkled a map of the heavens.
Dio was not entirely used to all of the differences in himself. He was confused by so much of it. It seemed to him that somehow, overnight, his perceptions had altered.
It was because of his discomfort with himself that when Merci and Cinder had left, he was thrilled to find he hadn't the compulsion to go with them.
Plus it gave him time to decorate while they were gone!
He was determined that the shop was not the only place he would have the chance to celebrate the Bright Star festival, he would do it right here at home too. The fiend was hanging star shaped ornaments and paper cut outs all over the place with delight. Dio was setting up a particularly ornate display on the Foyer when his left arm dropped to his side. It was more from force of habit then any actual problem. He, for some reason, still didn't feel entirely comfortable with the use of that arm.
The limb swung at his side as he worked. Be it from the change in size, or the fact he was utterly distracted, he didn't notice when he went to turn that his limp left arm would hit the hat rack and send it crashing to the floor.
The sudden noise startled him enough that he dropped the ornaments that he was still carrying. The tinkling of glass joined the echoing boom from wood hitting wood.
Dio put a hand up over his visible eye and heaved a large sigh.
This was so going to take getting used too.

Rhys shifted his gaze to look over the variety of stars that had popped up through out the house, with all the trouble and running that he'd been getting into he hadn't had time to even hear about festival yet. He didn't know why the stars were up but after a moment he decided he liked the effect. Leaning over the rail he looked toward where he heard the noise and paused.
The coat rack was laying on the floor but that wasn't what Rhys was staring at, he had caught sight of Dio at first he hadn't realized who it was the fiend had changed a great deal. He hadn't seen the fiend in sometime and the change was a bit startling, he realized that Dio now looked more substantial and more fully there. The stars over the skin of Dio's arm drew his attention for quite a while and Rhys continued to stare until it was likely impolite to be doing so. Tektite floated over toward Rhys face flickering at his guardian, blinking a few times Rhys cleared his throat and moved down the last few steps.
Standing another moment looking ahead a bit dumbly he finally found his voice, "uhm...Dio? Is everything alright?" even as he spoke Rhys moved forward leaning down to right the rack that had been knocked over.

Dio floated there for a moment, and he felt a rush of embarrassment at the fact Rhys had caught him at a particularly clumsy moment. However the embarrassment was quickly overcome by the happiness of seeing his friend again. It had been entirely to long! 'Rhys! I am fine, I'm just not used to being bigger yet.' His tone was a bit sheepish.
Oooo...
Dio's attention was caught by Tektite and he put his arms behind his back and moved a bit closer to the wisp. 'Why Hello there little one. I didn't notice you before. I'm very sorry.' He loved wisps, he didn't know why but they appealed to him. He held up his hand and offered a finger for Tek to investigate should he feel the need. 'I was not aware you had a wisp Rhys. Has he a name?' The braid that now hung next to his face swung gently as he leaned over, his burgundy eyes appraising the young shadow.

Rhys was still stuck on the fact that his friend was bigger, and continued to watch Dio curiously. "Yeah I could see how that would be startling...you sort of sprang up overnight..." the shimmering of jewelry caught Rhys eyes and he raised a brow, "you got piercings too it seems." A slight smile came to his face over the last before he looked up to his friend's face and then over to Tektite.
"Well I haven't really had a wisp long...sort of found it in my room while I was cleaning it out. And well it's Tektite, I just call it Tek in general it seems to work." The smile spread over his face some as he watched Dio and Tek interact. Tek moved toward the other fiend curiously and brushed up against Dio's finger before darting over and around the fiend keeping to the shadows.
"Yeah...Tek can be kinda fiesty sometimes," chuckling some Rhys watched the wisps antics a moment before looking around the room and then back, "so what's the occasion? Why are all the stars being put up?"

The older fiend's eye creased with what would be laugh lines if he had a normal face. The idea of having another like himself around wasn't at all disconcerting to him. In fact he was kind of excited. It would be like having a little brother maybe! Though when Dio thought about it he had no idea what being an older brother entailed. He would have to go to the library and pull some books on the subject.
He didn't answer Rhys' question right away, as he was distracted by the idea of being a mentor and example to those younger then himself. Dio's eye widened and he looked back at his handiwork. 'The.. oh right the lights and everything! It's for the Bright Star Festival! I found the information in a book about the ancient and extinct civilizations. So I talked Merci into celebrating it instead of Christmas! Don't worry though.. there are still presents.' His tail swished behind him as he spoke, obviously he was pleased with himself and his discovery.

A small smile crept onto Rhys face as he watched the variety of expressions dance over Dio's face. It left him wondering what was being thought over. He hadn't really known Dio all that well before he had seen the change but now...well the change was very apparent and fascinating all in it's own.
"Oh right...Christmas," Rhys paused for a long moment his face turning thoughtful, he really hadn't had any sort of holiday before. The prospect of celebrating one for the first time made feel excited and a touch ill at the same time. "I..." shifting from one foot to the other self consciously he continued on after a moment, "well I never celebrated Christmas...or well anything really before." Glancing over at the decorations thoughts raced through his mind, presents for one ... what was he going to get people and was he expected to...what did he need to do before he let it overcome him he continued on, "so what do we do for this festival?"

Dio cocked his head sideways at Rhys and he couldn't help feeling the discomfort at the subject. Fiends were naturally just a touch empathetic. 'Christmas is fun, but we aren't really doing just that this year. We're doing Bright Star! It has days, many days. Each on different and you celebrate it differently. I'm putting up the stars and lights cause it's important, it was something the Alisari did.'
Dio knew somehow that the long dead people were important to him, but he couldn't really put a finger on why. His normally limp arm seemed to come to life and tug at Rhys, 'I'll show you the book! I found it in a book that Merci bought me.' The Fiend slipped past him toward the stairs. Dio could help but hold his hand out as he passed Tek, brushing the little wisp with his fingers as he passed. 'It's up in my room, come on!'

Not being given time to over think the whole holiday thing Rhys let himself be dragged along by the fiend. "The book sounds interesting..." at least if there was a book he could read about it and hopefully not mess anything up too badly.
As they journeyed up the stairs Tektite took up hiding in the crook of Rhys' wing.
"So presents...does everyone usually get one...or..." the vague idea that you are suppose to get presents for people you like on holidays came to Rhys, but until really recently he hadn't really had holidays to worry about let alone people he would care enough about to get gifts for during them.
Once to Dio's room Rhys gave the fiend a moment to get the book, "so these, Alisari - who were they?" If the fiend was this excited Rhys assumed there was a reason it was this festival that was important over others.

Dio sailed along in front of Rhys, 'Everyone usually buys presents for everyone else. Like I would buy presents for you, Merci, the snakes, Cinder, Tek. You know, everyone. Money isn't usually a big deal cause Merci gives it to me. I like books.' The shadow pushed the door open to his room, which looked like a tornado may have hit it. The bed was covered with papers, star charts, and books. The mess spilled onto the floor and every flat surface had some sort of research spread out on it. Looking at the space it was obvious he didn't use it for much of anything but a place to store his stuff.
Dio floated over the piles and picked up a book from the in-table next to the bed. To look at the room it would be obvious that this book was pretty highly prized. It wasn't laying half open discarded on the floor, it had been on the most clutter free surface. 'I don't know as much about the Alisari as I would like. It,' Dio paused and looked down at the pages as he flipped through the old book, 'I mean they are an extinct race, they don't really exist anymore. They might be related somehow to the Medusa, I just came upon that theory. Anyway they have to do with my... past.'
The Fiend found the pages that outlined the festival and moved back over holding the book out for Rhys. 'There it is. Isn't it wonderful?'

Rhys paused and blinked slightly looking over the room before following the fiend inside. "I'm not sure I'm going to be so good at the whole thing..." once the book itself was handed over Rhys took time to look over it carefully. As he read over the festival the story of the star brought a slight smile to his face, and noting the present giving he glanced up at Dio again, "what kind of books do you like?" If he was going to be buying presents Rhys decided he might as well get an idea.
"Your past...what about your past?" Glancing up Rhys looked over to the little shadow. He knew that when it came to their pasts the fiends didn't really remember much, but he had a feeling that was different fiend to fiend.

Dio looked at Rhys for a few moments and glanced up toward the skylight that took up most of the ceiling of his room.'I like all kinds of books, mostly extinct races, astrology and astronomy books. Though I'm kinda liking Physics and Quantum Physics lately too.'
His burgundy eye stayed locked on the sky outside the skylight. Dio knew he could try and ignore the question about his past, but it would be rude. He was trying to cultivate a friendship with his new family. Without moving his head, his eye rolled to the side and regarded Rhys from where he was. 'Yeah, my past. We didn't just appear out of nothing you know. We used to be someone, something, somewhere.'
It wasn't something he'd talked to Merci about, or really anyone other then Hawk. Part of him wanted to keep his thoughts a secret. After all he shouldn't go telling Rhys everything anyway. He had a shadow of his own, one that might not be ready for him to know about what really happened to them.
His reddish orb rolled to regard Tek. Who knew who he used to be, what life was stolen from him. 'I don't remember much, just that the Alisari were a part of my past.' Okay so that was a half-truth but he just didn't feel like talking about it right now. Dio's eye moved back toward the skylight again and sighed quietly, talking almost as if to himself 'I can hear them singing sometimes, the stars, but I can't understand them.'

Rhys quirked a brow, "physics..." theories, numbers, and images came to his mind in a flash, "I know a little about it ..." shrugging slightly Rhys glanced over to the window, letting his eyes focus on the sky and letting his mind clear as he does; no time for numbers and figures... not tonight.
Rhys lip twitches slightly, he knew they use to be someone...at times watching them grow it was easy to forget. The reminder took him by surprised and sent his thoughts to the wisp nearby. Tek for his part seemed to be ignoring the conversation and bobbed around Dio's telescope.
Rhys for a moment considered asking more of the boy about this past of his...but as the subject of the stars came back up his eyes turned toward the heavens once again. "Maybe you just need more time to listen to them..." pausing Rhys continued watching the sky his mind wandering in thought, "Cinder says that the stars speak to her when she's flying...I wonder if it's similar." Part of his mind reasoned that it was likely very different, after all his mother and Dio were very different creatures. But if there was a kinship with stars Rhys reasoned that it was likely that Cinder was part of it...
Blinking rapidly Rhys shook his head chasing more troubled thoughts to the back of his mind for the moment, "never did finish mapping the local stars correctly."

Dio stretched out his left arm, and turned his eyes away from the sky. He glanced toward his own limb and used his right hand to point. 'From what I can tell it's completely accurate. I've been double checking against my charts.' His eyes moved from his arm up toward Rhys, and then over to Tek. He could tell already he wasn't going to be as good at this whole "being an example" thing as Mystic and Hawk were.
Dio held his arm out quietly for few moments and then his head cocked to the side. 'She flies? But she doesn't have wings like you do, how does she fly?'
Oh he doubted that Cinder heard the stars speak like he did. After all she didn't hum the songs they sang and night. But he was willing to try different things at this point. Dio felt he would have to do more then read and stare at stars through his telescope to learn more about himself and the connection he had to the heavens.

Rhys eyes stayed on the heavens as he listened to Dio, his lip twitched in amusement at the question of Cinder's flying. "She flies, in a ship ... " Rhys flickered his hand toward the sky, "in space, stars...are much different up close." Frowning faintly he glanced over toward Tek and then Dio, "they are actually rather bright."
While the two conversed Tektite used the time to slowly glide closer to Dio, the little wisp's tiny tendrils of shadow reaching out and brushing along the other fiend's side. Whoever Tek had been, or whatever didn't seem all that concerned with personal space.
Rhys grin widened slightly and he flexed his wings, "as for my wings...well truthfully they aren't very good for flying. Gliding maybe, but really it seems to be more like controlled falling." Sighing gently Rhys shifts his gaze to his wings and then to Dio.
