It was a bright and sunny day out at the docks of the Rias Hold as the fishing ship 'Precarious' came in to dock. The ships captian Keir was the first to step off the ship with his daughter the young Kairos right behind him. Kairos resembled her father a lot with her dark tanned skin and dark black hair. They were about the same height with Keir being a few inches taller of course.
On the docks just in front of the Precarious was the woman by the name of Jona wife of Keir and mother to Kairos. She waved vigoriously to her husband and daughter as they exited the ship. Kairos smiled seeing her mother and ran to her giving her a great hug. "Mom!" Kairos shouted practically leaping into her mothers out stretched arms.
"Kairos! Keir!" Jona said hugging Kairos tightly and pulling Keir into the hug as well when he was close enough. "You two must be starving! Come on I have lunch made for you two. You must be starving! Look at you two!" Jona said as she led both of them off to the Hold to have lunch.

Rinfala took a deep breath of the clear air as she and Zelith came out of between and grinned. She loved flying...with reluctance, she told Zelith to land them as close to the main Hold as he could manage.
The brown heaved a sigh. All right. He banked to the left and dove, backwinging to a neat landing in the midst of a small dust storm kicked up by the draft of his wings.
Rinfala swung down and looked at the small crowd that was gathering. "I'm just here for some things...if you wish one of your children inspected for potential as a Candidate, however, come on and let's get it over with."

Kairos was gleefully happy to see her mother as the three family members walked towards the hold. Nothing was going to ruin her time home with her mother and father together. Though she loved the seas sometimes it was just a great feeling to be in the company of a loving mother.
Jona however was enjoying something else ahead of them. "Look Keir, Kairos! A dragon! Isn't he magnifecint!" Jona exclaimed. Keir nodded in agreement as he too became delighted by the appearance of the dragon. Kairos rolled her eyes both her parents were in love with dragons but had never had a chance to impress one themselves. Everytime a dragon came to the hold they just had to go see it and speak with the rider and today wouldn't be any different.
"Come on Kairos! Let's go see him!" Jona said holding tight to her daughters arm so she could not leave. Kairos sighed she knew her parents were not letting her get out of it this time nor would she ever get out of it. Practically carried down the rest of the way to the gathering crowd about the dragon Kairos was suprised to see that children from the hold were being herded towards the dragon and investigated by him. Kairos didn't think anything of it as she was pushed to the front of the crowd by her parents who then stood on either side of her and looked up at the dragon in awe. It was quite a suprise as Kairos looked the brown directly in the face as they now stood in the part of the crowd just in front of the dragon. They were able to watch the children who were being inspected and most turned down with the kids backs to them.

Rinfala nodded politely to the new arrivals, then shook her head slightly at the newest applicant as Zelith showed no interest. Suddenly, the brown snorted and snaked his head forward to stare one of the crowd in the face.
That one. She is...interesting. He continued to study her as if fascinated.
Rinfala nodded and gestured the girl forward. "What's your name?"

Kairos wasn't really paying attention as another child was rejected and left feeling hurt but soon her eyes widened as a brown dragon snout appeared in front of her inspecting her as it had the other children. When the rider gestured to her to walk forward and asked her name Kairos looked around unsure whether she was talking to her or not.
Jona and Keir both smiled and pushed Kairos forward towards the dragon. Kairos stumbled slightly as she was pushed and stepped on forward. "My name is Kairos."

Rinfala nodded and scrutinized the girl. She was strong, all right...she looked like she'd be able to handle the work it took to care for a dragon. "Zelith here seems to find you interesting. That usually means you could be suitable for a dragonet."

Jona and Keir gasped in surpise and delight however Kairos's gasp was more of a disliking. "What?! A dragonet?!" Kairos exclaimed she couldn't believe this. She was being searched?! But she couldn't not now! "I won't!" Kairos said waving her arms about in refusal.
Keir and Jona's mouths both dropped and they rushed forward to their daughter. "Kairos this is your chance to do what neither of us could do darling. You could be a dragonrider. Think of it Kairos. Caring for a real dragon!" Keir said motioning to Zelith.
Kairos kept an expression of shock on her face as her father spoke and shook her head. "I can't. I have duties to the hold father, to the crew!"
Keir shook his head. "No you don't. You are still too young to understand duties. Kairos this is your chance to leave this Hold and become one of the few who even get a chance to try and impress."

Rinfala wasn't really paying attention, rummaging around in a pack for Search papers. "Alright...I'll need you, the parents, to sign this." She eyed the girl and shrugged. She didn't really understand why one wouldn't want to go to the Weyr...not anymore.
Zelith crooned and tilted his head towards Kairos. Scratch? he asked wistfully.

Keir quickly took the pairs from the female rider and scribbled his name on the papers and then passed them to Jona who in turn did the same and handed them back to the rider.
Kairos couldn't believe this she was being sent off to Rias Weyr by her own parents?! Kairos's thoughts were abrupted by another voice. The voice of the dragon Zelith. Reaching out Kairos began to scratch Zelith's eye ridges lightly.

Rinfala nodded and took the papers with a slight smile. "I can bring her things back with us if you wish, or you may send them later." She grinned fondly at Zelith. Silly boy. But good thinking.
Of course, Zelith retorted smoothly, crooning as he leaned into the scratching, one large eye closing a bit. Is it not always so?
Rinfala simply rolled her eyes at the brown and waited to see what the girl's parents would say.

Kairos sighed seeing no way out of being sent to the Weyr she said. "My things are already packed." She said looking up at the rider. "They're back on the ship."
Keir looked over and nodded. "Oh yeah that's right we left all of our belongs back on the ship to come back and get later."

Rinfala nodded. "I'll be here...what I came for can wait." She put a sympathetic hand on Kairos' shoulder. "It's not bad at the Weyr, girl. And Impressing, well...it's worth anything." A fond smile at Zelith. "If you Impress, you'll see what I mean. And I don't see any reason why you wouldn't."

Kairos sighed and glanced at the hand on her shoulder. Kairos nodded to Rinfala and glanced down to the ship. "I know. It's just hard for me to explain." She said before looking back at Rinfala. "I'll be back in a minute." Kairos said and then walked off towards the docks. Once she was out of the crowd around Zelith Kairos broke out into a slow jog not wanting to take too long to get her stuff even though she didn't want to.

Rinfala inspected a few more possibilities, but Zelith remained disinterested. Finally, she waved them off, reminding them that a blue or a green might have better luck finding them on Search. When Zelith rumbled, she patted his shoulder soothingly. Sorry about that, love. But I must tell them something. After all, today just might not be their day. You're still my Zelith, and I wouldn't trade you for any other.
Zelith exhaled a breath that smelled faintly of firestone into his rider's hair. Alright. At her last comment, he snorted. As if you could.
Rinfala nodded, and leaned against his shoulder to wait.
((Whatcha think of the new avi?))

Kairos slowed to a walk as she reached the docks and walked the rest of the way to the ship. Climbing up onto the deck Kairos walked to the entrance to the lower decks and climbed down going over to her bunk Kairos grabbed the packed bag of all her things and then left with a sigh. This was probably going to be the last time she ever set foot on this ship if she impressed a dragon as Zelith said she might. Taking a moment to say goodbye to the crew that was still lingering on the boat Kairos then set off back to the Hold where Zelith and Rinfala awaited her. Deciding just to walk back Kairos took her time getting back to the hold. inally when she got back to the awaiting dragon Kairos mustered a smile to her parents and then looked up at Rinfala. "I'm ready now." She said and Jona began to cry in happiness.
