The Deakon house was still decked out for Christmas, even though it was already New Years Eve. It wasn't that Tyler was lazy, it was that Carmel and Missy adored the lights so much that he had decided to wait until the year was over to take them down. Not that he ever said so, but the entire family knew what he was thinking.
Missy was putting together a massive spread for the party goers, completely vegetarian, but delicious, nonetheless. Cakes and cookies, fried mushrooms, canapes, cheeses of all types and crackers, nuts and fruit, it was a spread fit for a King on a long table in the dining room. The kitchen was bustling with activity as she finished off trays to replace the ones that were already out.
Music played in the front room, everything from rock to pop to blues, and there was a Wii set up in front of the large screen TV for anyone that wanted to play. There were streamers, hats, whistles, all the party accessories a person could think of laid out all over the room.
In fact, the only thing this party didn't have was alcohol. This party, as was written on the posters at school, was completely chaperoned (by a school teacher) and non-alcoholic. The perfect place to take your kid while you went off to another party that wouldn't be safe for them.
The door was opened the moment it was knocked on, and Tyler Deakon, shop teacher and school janitor, greeted people at the door with a smile.

"Hi!" Rory said with a grin, toting a bundled up Rayne in her arms. Their mom had to do a show, as her orchestra was hired for a New Years Eve event. One of those big events. Even if Rory was at the age she could be left alone at home, and babysit her sister, going to a party at the Deakon house was an even better idea.
"Not to early, are we?" she asked, shifting her sister in her arms. Rayne gave a little wave.

"Nope, not at all," Tyler said. "In fact you're the first to show up. Chris and Carmel are in the front room playing on the Wii, if you want to join them."
"I win!" Carmel bragged, jumping up and down happily. Even for the laziest girl on the planet, beating her brother was something to do a happy dance about.
"That's because you picked the game," Chris said. "I've never played My Little Pony in my life."
"I won!"

"Really? Alright then, at least I know Chris didn't get a chance to eat everything yet!" Rory said teasingly, setting her little sister down and started to un-coat her.
"I wanna play, I wanna play!" Rayne called out, almost squirming away from her sister. As soon as the coat was off, she took off for the living room.
Rory put up the coat, and took off her own to join.

"You can have Chris's thingy!" Carmel said, grabbing the wand from her brother's hand and holding it out for Rayne to take. "He's losing anyways."
Chris snorted and looked over Rayne's shoulder to see if Rory was coming in. He grinned as he saw her, motioning her in. "I just got my game stole," he told her. "So it's time to eat!"

"Yeah? But you will eat everything, and leave nothing for the rest of us!" Rory teased him, coming over now that she had the warm clothes off.
"I play!" Rayne said again, with a grin. "What are we playing? Is it fun?" the little fox girl asked, waving her tails behind her and nudging her glasses up her nose.

"It's the My little pony game!" Carmel said excitedly, showing the little fox girl how it was played.
Chris got up, not bothered by her accusations. "Then they shoulda got here earlier," he said as he headed for the table. He blinked as the doorbell rang, and Tyler let in Jordan and Cobalt.
"Where's the food?" Jordi demanded, handing Tyler her coat and heading in. Coba looked around, his ears twitching for a moment before he headed into the front room with the girls.

Rayne hadn't yet spotted him as she was giggling over the game. It was so cute! She was going to have to ask if they could get it too.
"You're just in time, Jordi. Chris was heading for the table and for the food," Rory told the younger girl. It was a good thing she knew Jordi was a girl, or she'd mistaken the dwarf for a male.

"Whew!" Jordan said, breathing a sigh of relief. "You got NO idea how hard it is getting that little stripper in clothes, even when it's freezing out. I was sure I'd starve getting here this late."
"There's back up trays in the kitchen, Jordi!" Missy called as she stuck her head out of the kitchen. "Don't worry!"
"Rayne!" Coba said, attacking the poor girl from behind with a hug.

Rayne yelped at the sudden hug, poofing right there in his arms. She had been so intent on the game, that his 'attack' was unexpected.
Rory gave a sigh, hearing the poof. "Yep, and when he's around Rayne, she doesn't seem to stay a little girl, and in her clothes," she said, shaking her head. But, at least Mrs Missy had more in the back!

To cover her laugh Jordan headed for the tables, climbing onto a chair and pointing at Chris. "You put everything I tell you to on a plate," she bossed him. "Then I'll let you and your girlfriend have some time alone."
Chris almost choked. "What?" he asked, earning an evil grin. "Your dad's a bad influence on you."

Rory choked, starting to laugh at this. Somehow, she didn't think they would be alone at all. "Don't worry about that, Jordi," she commented. She also didn't mind her bossing Chris around at all.
Fox-Rayne gave a huff, looking back up at Coba. Why did he always have to do this to her? It was rude!

Todd waved happily at his father, Liam, as he reached the door of the house. He was happy to have talked Liam into taking him to this party instead of Elliot, he was going to have more fun this way for sure. Elliot had the tendency to stay behind longer than he needed to, especially when it concerned leaving Todd alone.
He grinned as Liam pulled away, his tail wagging happily behind him as he reached up for the door bell, poking it twice before taking a step back form the door. He was so excited to be able to go to a party without Elliot breathing down his neck.

Tyler opened the door, smiling slightly down at Todd and motioning for him to come on in. "You should probably get to the food table now," he told the boy, "Chris is about to start making his plate."
"Not until after he's made mine!" Jordan called from the dining hall, where she was telling Chris what to put on her plate next.
Coba, ignoring the dirty look that both females were shooting him, happily reached down to scoop Rayne up for cuddles. He loved it when she changed into a fox! She was downright adorable! And so soft and fluffy!
"You put her down," Carmel said, her hands on her hips as she glared at the trouble making gargoyle. "She's my Rayne!"

Rayne gave a little huff at this, going a bit limp as she was used to be cuddled while it this form by now. She'd drag off her clothes later to change back. When she was freed, that was.
"Yep, so you'd better get what you can before it's Chris's turn at the table," Rory said, greeting Tod with a grin. She was putting food on a plate for herself. And some on a smaller plat for Rayne. It wasn't much though, since Mrs Missy said there would be more in the kitchen. "The little one's are playing the Wii."
