The leopardess gave a small sigh as she trotted through the open plains. She still couldn't believe what had happened to her; so much for taking comfort in the affections of another. Really, the leopardess hadn't understood why she had let things go as far as they had. The lion had been a bit heartbroken over his own dilemma with love, and had been a practical stranger; sure, they'd hit it off and had swapped tales of life's cruelties. . . .
But it had only been one night, and after taking a little comfort in each other, she had continued on her way. The lion whose name she hardly remembered had returned to his great pride and Ohenewaa had gone back to her roaming. It had been an odd affair, to say the least, but she certainly hadn't expected it to produce cubs!
Of course, by the time she realized she was pregnant, she'd been long gone. A litter of three once more; two sons and a baby girl. They harbored the markings of their lion father, but also her own. . . . Strangely enough, though she had panicked and feared for her cubs and her role as mother, upon their arrival Ohenewaa found her heart healing. Slowly. The guilt she felt over missing out on the lives of her first litter were forced to the background as she had new ones to care for and feed. . . .
Unfortunately, until they were older, it put her roaming to temporary rest.
Today was no different. The coy and down trodden female was too busy trying to keep food in the stomach of her growing litter to think about Kiganja, her grown cubs, and the unfortunate series of events that seemed to make up her life. The sun was hot upon her back, and the the recent days hunts had not been good; while she didn't like to keep her cubs alone, or travel far from their small den, she also understood that food was imperative for their survival.
She'd roam as far as she had to to find a decent meal. . . though she did worry that larger predators might make a snack out of her children while away. Oooooh, ut she wasn't going to think about that either! Loping through the grasses, panting lightly from the heat and days excursions, Ohenewaa paused beneath the shade of a dying tree.
Water might help rejuvenate her energy, though from the looks of the dry plains around her, water was as scarce as prey! A few more miles before she'd turn around. . . . If worse came to worse, she'd return home for the night and set out again in the morning. Surely her hunting luck would have to turn and soon!
Shaking some dust from her fur, the female heaved a sigh and began grooming her paws. She'd cool down and clean up before continuing on.

Dala had gotten a bought of wandering paws. It was completely unlike him, but his mother had wished him well and told him to come home SAFE.
That had been about a week ago, and he decided that after this bought...he was done with wandering. He missed his home a great deal. That lovely jungle with all the wonderful sights and smells, the 'temples'...He sighed and sat down for a moment, brushing dust off the back of his porcelain-colored coat. He wasn't made for all this dust. He was made for more fertile, rich lands.
His ears perked as he caught a scent. Oh? Someone else? He smiled. It was always nice to come across someone else! Oh happy day! Perhaps he could find some nice conversation to pass a little time. Perhaps this would be the creature to cure his wandering paws and let him go home!
With a hum, he stood again and trotted after the scent. And blinked at the sight of a rather pretty, dust colored leopard taking a respite beneath a tree (one of the savanna sort, not the verdant ones he was used to). He bowed his head when he got close enough.
"G'day, mademoiselle. Would you mind some company?"

Ohenewaa's green eyes caught sight of an approaching lion. Well, at least at first glance it looked like a lion - smaller than some, and a little different in appearance. Unfortunately, Ohenewaa hadn't ever met a full grown hybrid before, and thus she couldn't place what was off about the snow-white male before her.
Still, she had more concerns sweep over her upon his approach, and a defensiveness suddenly caused her shoulders to tense. Honestly, Hen just didn't want to deal with males anymore. Though the white male didn't look at all like Kiganja, and he surprisingly seemed to know his manners while in the presence of a lady, the leopardess couldn't help but feel mistrust. The maternal instinct in her was edgy even if her cubs were far from her guard.
Still, Ohenewaa's name meant queen and she had once been royalty of sorts in a prestigious family. She knew her place, she knew how to be cordial and as he didn't appear hostile she didn't have to worry as much. Still . . . . There was something about males that made her edgy and uncertain, and the old wounds of the past she'd thought were healed always seemed to be ripped open when one approached.
Unfortunately, Dala was not an exception.
"If it pleases you and you don't mind my disheveled appearance," she spoke, averting her gaze. She knew she wasn't at her best - with three mouths to feed and all on her own, she didn't often get time to call her own. No sleep, worried and constantly on the hunt. . . "It has been awhile since I've crossed paths with another." She added, more to herself than Dala. Calming her worries, the young leopardess reminded herself he was but a passing stranger. . . Talking wasn't a crime and it wasn't as if he meant anything to her. Just a ghost conversing with another ghost, both of whom would drift out of each others lives as quickly and quietly as they had drifted in.

She seemed a little tense. Perhaps she was not used to company? Her words confirmed that, and he nodded.
"I do not mind. And it please me, for you, mademoiselle, have an inner beauty that shines through the signs of life in this place." His smile wasn't fake at all, a real and gentle one. "I hope my company proves satisfactory." He placed a paw to his chest and bowed his head. "My name is Dalasini'ua. I come from a jungle about a week's travel northwest of here."
He hoped she could relax a bit. He meant no harm to her...simply a traveler seeking to socialize while far from home and familiar things.

If only Dala knew. . . . The men n her life, her father and her ex-mate, had all caused her trouble. The former not as hurtful as the latter, but his strict rules and his disappointment had caused complications enough. Perhaps what was worse was the fact her father had been right, through and through.
It was such knoweldge that kept the brown furred lioness far away from her home lands. She was dead to them and her love for the red spotted rogue had been her undoing. No, let them think what they wished for it was probably a happier ending than what lot in life she found.
Still, Ohenewaa's ears pricked in suspicion as he suddenly complimented her. Inner beauty. . . ? Her!? Though life had be kinder to the leopardess with the birth of her three new cubs, she saw no such beauty within herself. She was ugly inside, a wretched creature really who should have never been granted cubs again. With how she neglected her first brood, with how she lost them to age and depression. . . No, the guilt for her behavior still haunted her, even if it was something she didn't wear so obviously.
What was even more amazing was he seemed sincere! Laughing at bit nervously, Ohenewaa was quick to shake her head an dismiss such a thing. Furthermore, she knew how she must look . . . bedraggled and rather disheveled. "Come now, I bet you say that to all the ladies." Flicking her tail tip, the female was very quick to turn the conversation away from herself or her looks and place it back on him. "A pleasure to meet you, Dalasini'ua," she repeated, quickly assigning him a place in her memory. Not that he would be difficult to forget - his strange appearance on top of his formality! The bow was even more unexpected, especially to one like her. Maybe as a cub she would have expected nothing less, but after her choices lead to her emotional demise, she knew she was quite undeserving. "I'm Ohenewaa. Why so far from home, if you don't mind me asking? Roguing it for awhile or looking for a change?"
Home. . . there was no place Hen could call home anymore. Currently she resided in the plains, caring for her three young ones, but once they grew old enough they would once again be on the road. At least this time she could share her adventures with her children. . . .

"The pleasure is mine, Ohenewaa." A modest one! He didn't often meet modest females, not since his almost-twin sister had vanished. His mother had her moments but...his mother was also well aware of her beauty. She had to be. Dala let her have her modesty, finding it something of a relief.
"I'm afraid I caught a case of wandering paws. I do rather hope I manage to cure it soon. I miss my home." But best to get this out of his system now, lest it crop up again at a most inopportune time.
"What of you? Do you live around here?"

The leopardess listened to the male, finding herself relaxing some. He wasn't an aggressive sort, thankfully, and he seemed to be honest. She wrapped her tail about her paws as she listened to his tale and gave little nod and small smile. "If you're missing your home already, then isn't that a sign your wandering paws might be cured?" She questioned, canting her head gently to the side. "Still, it is good to get out and see the world. . . I hope it's treated you well on your journey." She did hope he'd found good things on his trip. . . .
Ohenewaa knew first hand what wandering paws was like. She had felt it while younger with Kiganja and she had taken off out of guilt after her cubs had grown and left her. Unlike Dala, though, she could never return to her immediate family. . . and where her children roamed she doubted she'd ever know. There was no home for her. . . not anymore.
"I . . ." And here she hesitated, glancing away as her gaze clouded for a moment. "I suppose for now I do. I haven't had a home for many years now," she added with a small self-depracating grin. "But I suppose the roaming life suits me well enough." She just plum didn't have a reason to stop or settle. Her cubs would keep her in the area for awhile yet, but once they could travel safely with her, they would be off again.
Maybe.
She'd figure it out as she went along.

Dala shook his head. "I'm afraid I have this feeling I'm still looking for something. Something I couldn't find back home." He wish he knew what it was he was looking for. All he knew is something was missing. "The world seems to have treated me decently. I've not starved, or run into angry wildebeast." He chuckled.
And then his expression fell a bit. "It sounds like those words don't truly fit you." Growing up with his mother, he'd learned how to read others...though he didn't often take advantage of it. But...she seemed lost. Adrift. "A girl like you should have a home, a place to call your own."

Ohenewaa listened to the lion, trying to relate to the sensation of emptiness. He felt as if he was still seeking . . . something. . . someone perhaps. "Hmm. . . Well then, perhaps you are right to continue your wandering. With luck, the spirits will find favor on you and give your heart the peace it seeks or at least fill the emptiness you question." Her green eyes softened, her word sincere for his happiness.
She knew what it was like to realize there were things missing. . . She knew what it was like far too well. While with Kiganja, pregnant and sick on love, she had felt the touch of loss. Her family she had left behind, the ones she couldn't return to. . . Then, after her cubs were born, how her heart broken as Kiganja disappeared and abandoned her. How he had left her so, with three mouths to feed. . . . And last but not least, what of her grown children? The ones she felt she had neglected emotionally, the ones she was certain she would never see again? Oh . .she missed them worst of all. Her chance at happiness had been overwhelmed by loss and the regret and guilt ate at her every day.
Now she had three cubs to care for . . . as if to make up for her loss. But they were growing fast and she knew would also be on their way. They were wanderers, just like she, and someday they would leave the nest and leave her alone.
Such as her life. Nothing and no one was meant to really stay.
Still, the thoughts were fleeting and she quickly looked back up at the pale creature before her. He looked like a lion, but there were differences . . Still, she didn't have time to study him due to his words and belief. Chuckling, she did her best to keep the bitterness out of her smile. "I never thought I'd be adrift, but sometimes we don't get what we want. . . The world, it seems, has other plans for me." But heaven forbid anyone ask what those plans were. . . because Ohenewaa just didn't know.

The leopon smiled slightly. "I hope the spirits will indeed find favor with me." He missed home. But he dare not return with his odd emptiness. And then there was the leopardess...There was something in her voice that spoke of loss. A lost home? A lost mate?
"I hope they are good plans. You seem to have a kind heart." His smile grew a bit. "I think you might like where I come from. It's a beautiful, lush place. And there are flowers that grow there in abundance that would look beautiful against your fur." Elua's Flower, the red anenomes...their rich color would balance out well with her earthy tones.
