Fern Wolflight shifted from paw to paw at the great stone clearing of Gather-Rocks. It was nearing daybreak, and she was certain that the other cats were getting tired. Partridge should be back by now! she thought, half in irritation and half in dread. Of course some cats didn't come back in time. They became No-Pelts, and it tore at Fern's heart to see a once-eager Seeker return empty-pawed or past the time. Her own brother was a No-Pelt, and she knew what it was like to see someone chased out of the Gather-Rocks by their angry Tribemates.

She sighed and snuggled deeper against her own pelt. Funny how much comfort could be taken from such support from her animal spirit. I wonder what spirits will choose her? Rabbit? 'Coon? Maybe even a badger or a deer! She forced herself to think these cheery thoughts, pushing back the possibility that she would never again see the young cat at Gather-Rocks again.

User Image Partridge ran through the trees, her breathe heavy and paws hitting the ground hard. She leaped over a log blocking her path with a fantastic leap, it was like she was soaring. Excitement and fear coursed through her body and pelt. 'I have to make it their in time!' she thought with panic as she continued on.

Finally she reached the border of the trees, and looked down to the stone clearing. Her heart quickened and she froze. 'What would the tribe think? They value tradition so strongly, and here I am coming back with something new and different' she thought with fear as she thought of the things that could happen.

She tried to look at the positives, these were the cats she grew up with and helped her in the tribe. However they could also chase her away angrily like a no-pelt or worse...chase her out of the tribe, forever.

Her crimson orange eyes looked at the clearing. She could just leave and not show at all. 'No!' her thoughts screamed at her. 'Atleast try and see what happens, maybe this could mean a big new change. There had to be a reason why they gave you wings!' The voice argued. "Of course! I was given these wings to fly to the top!" she said aloud as she started to slowly step down towards the stony clearing. She kept her head and tail high, showing her pride in her new spirit pelt.

Rain crouched at once side of the Gather-Rocks, waiting with the rest of her Tribe for the Seeker to return. As it grew closer to daybreak, the wait became almost as tense as when she was seeking her own pelt. She bent to give a few licks to the brow-spotted golden pelt tied to her foreleg. Perhaps the Seeker would come back with a squirrel pelt, too. It was certainly a common pelt, though she would be glad for her tribemate no matter which spirit chose to favor her. She settled back down to wait, her senses alert for the sign of Partidge returning.

(Edit: Pretend mine is before Partridge's post. XD )

Tempest EarthTaint lounged languidly on a stone, a frown decorating his lips, as he waited for the latest Seeker to return from the pelt-place. His bright cyan eyes scanned the Gather-Rocks and he noted with mild discomfort the passage of time. Soon, it would be too late, and regardless of whether Patty -- or whatever her name was; if she lacked a pelt, he honestly couldn't care any less -- managed to come back with a pelt or not, she would be deemed unfavored, and he wouldn't hesitate to attack.

"Do you think she'll make it?" he smiled, turning to Raindapple, a squirrel-favored such as himself. He stifled a yawn and stretched, taking a paw-step towards the warrior. Before he could get any farther, though, movement caught his eye, and he turned to see the Seeker that had left earlier today, with what seemed to be feathers upon her pelt. His eyes widened, and he wondered if this was supposed to be some sort of joke. Something she picked up along the way to hide her failure?

His ears flattened and he bared his fangs angrily at the thought, turning towards her. "What the hell is that supposed to be?" he demanded, eyes flashing.

((Hope it's okay for me to post. OTL And mew, sorry if you didn't want Tempest to know who Raindapple was. I just assumed, since they're in the same den together, but if you prefer they don't, I can edit my post.))

Vagabond stifled a yawn as he waited with the rest of his tribe for the seeker to return. He would much rather be out hunting or exploring, but the tribe valued its traditions. Whatever. At least he wasn't stuck being a no-pelt, having to stay behind all day and serve everyone else. He adjusted the squirrel pelt that was tied to his arm.

After a few more moments, he was getting impatient. I sure as hell didn't take this long... Maybe the seeker wasn't going to make it? He started to get up, wanting to go do something else, rather than shun another no-pelt, when he caught some movement. The seeker had returned! But what was that on her back? Feathers?

"Well isn't this interesting," he muttered and sat back down.

Rain stared at the approaching Seeker -- no, adult...right? -- wondering what this odd pelt could mean. If it could even be called a pelt. Maybe plumage, instead? Around her, other pelted cats were beginning to react to the unexpected development. Hearing Tempest speaking angrily, she quietly responded, "This is very strange. But perhaps the spirits willed this. I hope we at least hear Partridge out, but ultimately it is the Wolf- and Deer-pelts' decision."
