It was nothing big and fancy really, although one could argue what with all the festive Christmas decorations still donning the walls of the pristine white home. On the glass and mahogany coffee table as well as various end tables sat plentiful trays of hors d'oeuvres, appetizers and finger desserts. Onward into the dining room the table there held many tantalizing main courses such as turkey, spiral ham, stuffing, steamed veggies, mashed potatoes, as well as bigger sweets such as black forest cake and apple pie. Surely no one would go home hungry after so much food.
A fire crackled and popped in its blazing glory from the hearth while a mighty evergreen decked in silver and blue ornaments sat in a corner next to it. Small mountains of gifts still cluttered the floor beneath its pines even though it was well beyond Christmas. Gifts for their guests no doubt since Ebony had been too chicken to ask anyone to spend the important December holiday with her and Cordelia.
Speaking of the hosts, Ebony was busy playing a sweet, tender melody on the big black piano in the living room. Cordelia on the other hand was not nestled by the fireplace of which she so loved nor was she even by her guardian's side. No, instead the dark Frei was pressing her face to the cold window pane, bouncing slight in her excitement. Since she'd arrived, no one had ever really come to visit and now there would be many! Despite her hate for the cold, Delia continued to press her face into the window, eagerly awaiting their guests to arrive. Who would be first?

Vyn was nervous. She had been to big gatherings of raevans in the past, recently even with Lucia’s Halloween party, though that had been a goof friend’s get-together and she had been under the effect of the virus so some of the details were a tad hazy. This was a foreign house hosted by a woman she had met just once, though from first impressions and the following gift Vyn had some fondness towards the dark haired Brit, and a raevan who was completely new to the Rose. However, at least she had Ethan with her to accompany her until she found a niche of familiar faces to slot into – the older gentleman was adept at making conversation and Vyn could let him do the talking if the desire to speak didn’t strike her.
She had exerted a little effort to dress up, though she didn’t really know if there were any dress codes to go by for a new year festivity – it wasn’t like Halloween or Christmas with gimmicky expected outfits... So she had gone through her wardrobe with the intention of simply looking nice. Of course, that was a wide specification so it took her a little while to select a suitable outfit; however the rose was fairly pleased with it as she floated up the path towards the Shade residence. It was a black halter-neck dress* made of a loose flowing material that flapped in the bitterly cold night breeze. Nothing too fancy but it worked well as a change of look none the less. Ethan was unsurprisingly donned in his usual formal attire, though he had loosened up somewhat for the party – going without a tie and rather than slacks he was wearing black jeans.
As they drew close to the entrance, still decorated with a festive holly wreath, Ethan glanced at his ward. Now, nearly a year after adopting her, he could see through the various shades of her cryptic personality and he knew that she was fairly anxious about the party. “We don’t have to stay to the end if you don’t feel up to it. It can be as brief as you want, I'm sure Ebony wouldn't take offence if we made an excuse to leave early.” Vyn glanced at his concerned grey eyes behind the glasses. “No, it’s fine,” she responded, she just needed to settle into the party and find some good company – arriving was always the mist nervous part of a gathering like this.
Taking his charge’s word for it Ethan moved the last few meters forward and rung the bell.
*roughly like the one the left.

At the sound and sight of a vehicle's headlights pulling up close to the house, Cordelia's sharp wings flicked back and forth in anticipation. The dark femme drew away from the window to wind big circles around her piano playing guardian. "Ebby!" she crooned in a smokey sing song voice. This caused a stumble in the Brit's harmonious tune, the notes jumbling into chunky patches before smoothing back out again. Ebony did not really enjoy nick names and still couldn't figure out why or how the girl came to call her such. She most definitely did not call herself it nor did anyone else, yet as much as Ebony tried to correct the girl, the more stubborn the Snake became and the more she used it despite her guardian's dislike of it.
Thus the violaceous vixen simply ignored the utterance and continued playing while addressing the half body. "Cordelia, please greet our guests and show them in."
And sure enough as soon as the bell had rung, the smoke Raevan was off, slithering haphazardly due to her excitement towards the front door. There was some brief jingling of bells and locks being opened before the door came flying open. Cordelia was grinning from ear to ear even though she really didn't know this pair. She gave an energetic wave and then quickly pulled the two inside.
"Ethan, Vyn, welcome. I'm glad you could make it. And..." she stopped playing and got up to properly greet the two. "...please do excuse Cordelia. She's very excited as you can tell."

Their welcome certainly was enthusiastic – that much could be said for sure. The waiting pair heard the scuffle of the locks and chains guardian the home being hastily undone and without further warning the door was flung open and an excitable face had given them a bouncy wave before clasping them by the arms and pulling them in. Vyn, not fond of physical contact for the most part, flinched and resisted the tug, breaking out of the girl’s hold as soon as they were drawn into the home. Ethan however was more tolerant to the smoky eyed raevan’s greeting and reciprocated her little wave with a casual movement of his own hand. Ebony was hot on the heels of her ward though she greeted them in a much less animated manner, apologising for her excitable daughter.
“Oh, no it’s fine I’m glad she is excited for the party –nothing worse than a miserable host.” He took the hand of the Brit and gave it a cursory shake. “How have you been keeping Ebony? It has been quite some time since our meeting at the museum.” He remembered the woman well now, she had struck him as classy and well to do at the time, he certainly hadn’t harboured any bad thoughts about her – especially after being kind enough to gift Vyn with the painting the rose had admired... Though back then the purple haired woman hadn’t been a fully fledged raevan owner, the soul bottle had been empty at her waist... And now... Well, it was amazing to think what the Doctor’s combination of science and magic could achieve!
Vyn was actually thinking similarly to her father. She remembered Ebony, mostly because of the gift – it had been a long time ago – and she could recall the vial of twisting smoke. Looking upon the frei in front of her she could see aspects of that smoke interwoven into her being; the smouldering ribbon, the ash grey eyes and the smog that hovered around her rune. This was the first time she had seen a raevan both before and after their ‘birth’ and it was quite a peculiar experience. However, she said nothing and attempted to divert her attention elsewhere in the room.
Inside the Christmas theme continued, there were remnants of the festive season everywhere. A sprig of holly tucked behind an ornament, a mistletoe ball hanging in the centre of the living room, and infront of the blazing fireplace were two stockings. Suddenly the rose wondered if she should’ve dressed in the garb of the Christmas season what with the house appearing so festive. However, a glance at both Ebony and the frei confirmed that neither of them was wearing merry adornments. Looking back upon her raevan counterpart, Vyn felt as though she should at least attempt to start conversation – simply to avoid rudeness.
“Hello... I’m Vyn.” She began; it was a rather defunct icebreaker since Ebony had greeted them by name... But the rose had missed the other raevan’s title when Ebony had said and it was an easy way to start talking for the shadow.

Taking the elder man's hand in a strong, professional grip, "Yes it has been awhile hasn't it? I'm doing well now." She briefly looked to her ward who was busy admiring the other dark Frei. They were similar in some ways, but obviously and more profoundly different in others. Vyn somehow looked more fragile when placed next to the Basilisk. Ebony smiled with a touch of tenderness to it. "We both are, thank you. Please come, have seat and make yourself comfortable. I'm sure the others will arrive shortly. How have you and Vyn been since our last encounter?"
Yes, the two of the girls were similar in that they were both dark in appearance. Yet the Rose held that beautiful shade of redness to her, mostly held in the strands of her hair. Cordelia wanted so much to actually touch the girl's hair, but from the earlier wrenching out of the younger Frei's hand, it was quickly assumed by the Snake that she was not one for touch. It suddenly made her very shy, something Delia wasn't prone to feeling much.
Clasping her hands together and giving a bit of a shy sway and smile, she softly repeated the girl's name. "Vyn." Her smile widened a bit more, smokey scaled eyes wrinkling in pride at not stumbling over the name. Not that it was hard with a name such as hers. Pointing to herself, "Cordelia...Delia." Ebony might not have the correct appreciation for nicknames, but her ward sure did.

Lucia was by herself as she rang the doorbell to Ebony and Delia's home. Yuu had a party - she claimed it was for business but she certainly wore a low enough cut dress that it might not have been - and couldn't come here, but the kitten decided she wanted to come anyway just by herself. Hopefully, the silent Delia wouldn't be the only one there that she knew.
The frei had bought a dress for the occasion: a purple spaghetti-strap tight across the bodice with a shiny fabric, but with an empire waist and flowing skirt illuminated by the soft purple glow of her rune. ((Dress shown here.)) She was wearing her and Vyn's necklace, just in case the frei was there. Lucia didn't know how long she would stay, she had other worldly things on her mind, but she figured she'd stop by at least.
Hopefully, she thought, she and Delia could have a little more fun this time. A smile played across her lips as her purple eyes looked expectantly at the door.

Ebony was just about to sit down herself when the doorbell rang again. She sighed and gave Ethan an apologetic smile, "I'm sorry, one moment ple-" Yet the British female didn't have time to finish her sentence when a blur of black rushed excitedly towards the front door once again, leaving the Rose in the dust so to speak. "Please forgive her Vyn. She doesn't mean to be rude. Cordelia's still very young and well...you know how excitable and single focused children can get."
Upon hearing the doorbell again, the Basilisk was off and yanking the door open in the same manner as before, not minding her strength much nor the strength of Ebony's door. Hopefully it would hold for the night since it seemed that Cordelia would be zooming to greet every guest all night.
"Lucia!" she squealed happily in that low hushed voice of hers. Without thinking she leaned forward and gave the Kitten a quick kiss to each cheek like the girl had taught her at their first meeting. Then she giggled and hurriedly dragged the other dark Frei back to her new friend. Pointing to each respectively, "Vyn. Lucia. Delia." She beamed, proud of her memory and although limited speech.

Ebony’s apology was pretty unnecessary actually; Vyn was glad that the easily pleased frei had rushed off to deal with the new guest. Carrying a good conversation with other raevans was difficult enough for the shadow, but newborns with stunted vocabulary like Cordellia usually only ended with awkwardness – when she had met Varun he had jumped at the chance to ‘defend’ her and find the culprit for her black eye at the time and with Domevlo... Well... That had ended very badly. Thus she was more than happy to allow Delia to zoom off to greet her guests; Vyn couldn’t fault her enthusiasm as a host. However, when the smoky frei did open the door and a familiar feline friend was welcomed inside, Vyn’s rune glowed with pleasure behind the black veil of her outfit. Now at least there was some company that she was well acquainted with!
“Hello Lucia,” She smiled before waving a pale hand at the cat’s dress. “You look really nice.” The compliment was honest and Vyn was reminded that they had arranged to meet before the virus had stricken them. Perhaps later she would extend an offer to her fellow fashion lover. Ethan had gifted her with a spa trip for two as a present at Christmas and out of her female friends Lucia seemed the one who would appreciate the pampering most. (Melisande hadn’t seemed the type to enjoy such spoiling and Alex had been made to act as a proper girly girl more than enough under her father’s influence.) However, Vyn was polite enough to abstain from asking the gothic girl in front of their host and would wait until they could speak in relative privacy – perhaps the next time Delia rushed off the open the door to a guest.
Sitting down as instructed Ethan gave an observatory look over the room. It was furnished in a pleasant modern style not too dissimilar to his own home though it had a more festive feel what with the remaining decorations – he and Vyn had barely stretched to putting up a tree which had now become home to three awkward angels. Turning his attention back to the human host he decided to inquire about her raevan, after all he had missed out on the creation of Vyn and found the idea positively fascinating. “So, how long has Delia been... animate?” He chose his words carefully – some guardians chose not to tell their raevans about their peculiar birthing and he wouldn’t want to cause an upset. Though, from what he had seen and overheard of the smoke raevan’s nature so far she seemed to be very childish and he doubted her attention would slip off her raevan company.

As Delia opened the door she spoke! Not only that, the frei remember her name! Before she could express her surprise, she was being kissed and dragged into the house to meet Vyn. So the older raevan was here!
The cat just blinked her eyes for a second. "Delia! You can talk!" Nothing like stating the obvious, but she was happy her friend learned how to communicate. She smiled happily and hugged the Basilisk quickly. Turning to the Rose she also pulled her into a hug and kissed her cheek quickly. "Thank you! You look beautiful too." The cat grinned not caring that she had upgraded Vyn's compliment from "nice" to "beautiful." Leaning in a whispering loudly to Vyn she added, "And I brought our necklace." She didn't want to keep Delia out of the conversation long, but Vyn needed to know she remembered.
Looking around she smiled at the shiny balls . "Ebony, this place is very nice! I love all of the decorations. Hello again, Ethan!" she smiled at the humans, trying to be pleasant. She was, after all, a guest in Ebony's home and Ethan had clothing for her when they had first met. The frei looked around the home and...There it was! She heard it crackling! "Let's go sit by the fire!"

"Ello Lucia, and thank you. I'm glad you could come." She'd noted that Yuurei wasn't with her, which was unfortunate, but perhaps the blonde had better plans. Ebony wouldn't worry about it now and returned her attention to Ethan. Amused by his choice of wording, the Brit cracked a smile. Though there was a slight droop to it by the man's use of the Basilisk's self appointed nickname. "Well, Cordelia's been animated, as you put it, for a couple months now. I couldn't have her meet anyone for awhile though since she'd contracted that virus. But now she's better and I'm thoroughly relieved."
Since Delia couldn't say anymore than names right now, she didn't respond to Lucia's outburst except for flashing that sweet smile of hers. She was happy to see Vyn and Lucia were getting along well and possibly already knew one another. This made her smile brighter. The party was getting off to a great start!
When Lucia gestured to the fire, the younger Frei uncharacteristically ventured the other way. She snaked herself carefully under the Shade's Christmas tree, looking for something specific. After a couple of minutes she emerged with three gifts in hand; one blue, one purple, and one red. Hurriedly, Cordelia rushed to Ethan and patted his cheek gently before placing the blue present next to him. Then she was off to the girls and the fire, holding the purple to Lucia and the red to Vyn.

Humming loudly and slightly-offkey (Tari preferred to think of it as making her own tune), Tari wove her way up the footpath to the front door. Her armor and usual attire was gone, replaced by a floaty baby-yellow dress. She looked very sweet, though what Tari didn't know was that the outfit was protection in case all the Raevans went crazy (as they did after the last big party) so that Tari didn't have her deadly claws to attack people with. Tari just thought the dress was pretty. She was on her best behaviour. Finally recovered from her infection, Tari was feeling pretty sorry about some of the things she'd done 'under the influence'. She owed several apologies, if she saw certain Raevans tonight. "No no, cheer up," Tari told herself. Ringing the doorbell, she put herself back in a more positive mood while waiting. Tonight was for fun! No sickness or fighting or poisoning, just fun. * Tari's dress

Before Vyn and Lucia could speak, Cordelia left the gifts by them and had zipped off again to answer the door. She wondered who it would be this time! All smiles, the Basilisk yanked the wooden obstruction to reveal the girl's newest guest.
Her smile faded some, yet only because she did not know this person. Tilting her onyx head slight, Delia looked the other curiously over. She was dressed in one of those flowy shirt things too, all the girls besides herself seemed to be doing that. It didn't bother her to be different though and she quickly forgot the realization when she noticed the female lacked a lower half. She was like her! Another new friend!
Smile renewed, the Snake waved and pulled the girl inside. Delia was quite eager for her to join the other Raevan girls by the fireplace. But first she made a quick pit stop by the tree and grabbed a snow flake printed one. She continued on towards the others once more while handing Tari the gift.

Lucia’s enigmatic nature was almost as warm as the fireplace that she suggested they move to and Vyn felt the guard she had erected upon arrival melt away. Drifting amiably she settled a few meters away from the crackling flames, bathing comfortably in the heat. Her lightly clenched nervous hands unfurled and her expression softened into a genuine smile. Delia certainly didn’t stay still because almost as soon as the rose and cat had made their move to their current position she had zipped off to the decorated tree to retrieve gifts. Vyn assumed it would be just for Lucia, since this was her first meeting with the smoke raevan (after ‘birth’) whilst she seemed to be at least aquainted with the feline frei. However, Delia returned with two presents and gave the red one to her. “Oh?” She said with surprise, taking the neatly wrapped parcel from the youngling. “Thank you.” Vyn responded, regaining her composure just before the snake turned away once more and floated off to answer the door with nothing more than a rattle of her wing blades.
Whilst the basilisk was opening the door to another guest Vyn ran her hands over the gift she had been given. Her sloped fingers tugged curiously at the ribbon, toying with the bow and loosening it – however, she was hesitant. Should she open it here and now or would it be more polite to refrain until Delia actually instructed her to unwrap it. She opted for the latter and stopped fiddling with it – instead turning her attention towards catching up on lost time with her friend. “How have you been Lucia?” She contemplated asking how the cat had coped with the virus but it wasn’t the most upbeat conversation starter so she decided to ask something which would be sure to provoke good upbeat discussion; “modded any other sexy clothes recently?”
Nodding understandingly, Ethan ‘mmmed’ in agreement. “Vyn suffered from the same virus... I imagine that was quite a sudden jump into raevan parenthood for you!” He gave a brief hearty laugh, making light of the dire situation. “I must commend you though, despite the difficult start you seem to be doing wonderfully – I wasn’t Vyn’s guardian back when she was newly born but Cordellia seems like a healthy young frei to me.” He paused, observing the smoky eyed girl greeting the silky haired girl at the door... “May I ask what you paired the smoke with?”

Lucia cuddled into the fireplace, almost too close to it. "Sitting" on the floor, she sighed softly at the heat radiating from it. As her skin warmed, Lucia stretched her shoulders back and blinked her eyes at Vyn as she settled down too. As Delia zipped over to the tree, the kitten looked in surprise as she was handed a package in pretty purple paper. "Oh wow! Thanks!" Her eyes lit up and she was about to open it as Delia zipped off again.
Putting the package in her lap to wait for the Basilisk to return, Lucia looked at Vyn with a smile on her face. "I've been well for the most part. Some different things going on, but it's been okay." As Vyn mentioned modifying clothing, the kitten's eyes lit up and she grinned. "I've been doing a but, but I haven't had much time. I've kind of been experimenting with some place I just learned how to get to." She was pretty silent on the matter, not wanting to say she was venturing into the world of the dead. It wasn't really party conversation. "How have you been?"
Looking over she smiled as she saw a girl she met at her party -- "Hi Tari!" As Delia came, back over, Lucia grinned and ripped open the purple package and excitedly pulled out her present.
