And so they went, a straggling, mismatched group, forwarded by Hero Barrett carrying a corpse in a sack that nobody wanted to get too near to barring the faithful Aurelia Thorne -- Hero and Aurelia had touched fingers, held each other's hands briefly, clutched over the Hefty. Just briefly, just a second. Then moved away. Hero carried Jude as she always would have carried Jude, devotedly, apparently immune to the nose-blistering smell of his rotting body.

There was Queen Serenity, blue-eyed and green-haired in Chronos' body, leading them with aplomb and grace. She really did manage aplomb and grace; it was uncanny. She walked as a much older woman would at the head of the cavalcade, a much taller woman. It demanded respect, worship, but for the Zodiacs there was still something missing -- she was a Queen, that much was brutally obvious, but she was not their Princess.

She was flanked by Sue Gottschalk, whose cat ears had made themselves embarrassingly known by now. More a** itching. And at her other side she was flanked by Astraea, who in turn was flanked by the pretty redheaded Sailor Foramen. And everyone else walked behind.

There was a figure opposite the barrier.

It was faint at first, but as they got closer and the barrier got less opaque they could make her out -- a girl with long dark hair and cafe au lait skin, hands pressed against the crackling black wall between her and Barren Pines, apparently desperate to get in.

Sue's inner radar -- which he had gotten used to -- pinged at this point:

Scorpio.
PostPosted: Thu Dec 24, 2009 3:27 am

Foramen walked alongside the Queen, Sue, and Astraea. He wasn't so fond of the silver cat as to greet her, but his irritation with her seemed to melt away in the presence of Queen Serenity.

A depressingly small group followed them. Foramen had at first been amazed that so many had survived, but as they moved as a group, he had to compare it to the numbers of Barren Pines mere weeks ago. So many gone. Foramen didn't care for them as individuals, but as a fighting force, they were at a severe disadvantage.

No one recognised him as Foramen, a fact for which Kirin was grateful. Even if it meant he missed out on hugs, like Yahya and Sue, or kisses, like the Gemi-tards Andeon and Mackenzie. It wasn't like he was close to these people. Hell, he possibly felt the closest to Sue right now, and Sue was a cat and had no clue who Foramen was under the magical girl outfit. And, walking near Queen Serenity, that was all fine with Foramen. The Zodiacs may have felt something was missing from this woman, but Foramen was perfectly content. He thought that if the Queen could remain in Chronos' body, he would be almost... happy? Huh, imagine that. Happy.

It was not to be, and somehow Foramen knew the Queen would never do that to the Zodiacs or to her niece. But for now he would be as helpful as he could. Approaching the barrier, he could see the senshi on the other side. Turning to the Queen, he asked, "Do you need her on this side? I think I can bring her to us."

He'd been able to rift past the barrier before, so hopefully this darker version wouldn't be any different. There would be no passing out this time, either (hopefully). Moving just one person or object seemed less taxing than trying to move two - or rather, one and a half, since cat-form Astraea couldn't really count as a full-sized person.

"Foramen," said the Queen. She was turning towards him, her expression grave. "Foramen, this is a barrier created by Queen Beryl herself. This will be difficult. This will be excruciatingly difficult. I'm acutely aware that you were only recognised as a senshi today -- would you mind if I ask this of you? Knowing that if you do it wrongly, it would kill you? Would you do this thing?"

"I am Captain Aries of the Zodiacs," said Hero Barrett, who was still lugging the gross disgusting dead body around. "If you parted the rift for a few seconds, and we only need a few seconds, the Zodiac Guard will owe you a favour. Foramen." She had stopped, but refused to put the gross dead body down. "Maybe we should try to look for some other way to get Scorpio through -- your Majesty, I don't want a dead body on our hands unneccessarily."

"Foramen is the only one who could do it," said Serenity. "However." She reached out, very gently, and she slid her hand into Foramen's. "I will give you what power I can. If you would. If I had the Silver Crystal, I could ask of it myself. I do not."

There was Astraea. "Your Majesty, there has to be another way."

"There isn't, Luna."

"Your Majesty -- "

"I will be fine. Chronos will be safe. Worry about Foramen."

Astraea gave a sidelong look at Foramen: you'll worry about yourself, won't you. Do I really need to worry about you.

Foramen paled as Serenity revealed the full risks to him if he tried this. There was a flash of fear, 'ohgodno don'twanttodienotyet, but he forced himself past it. It wasn't as though the fear of death was new, after the recent events at Barren Pines.

"It is needed. And you have asked it of me," he said, voice gruff in an attempt to force away the emotions that Serenity so effortlessly brought out in him. "That is enough for me to do this."

He gave a nod to Hero. It wouldn't be a bad thing to have the Zodiacs owe him a favour, and when no longer in the presence of Serenity, he would muse on that nebulous favour for longer. As it was, he trusted that Hero Barrett always kept her word. He might not trust the girl herself, but he knew he could trust that much.

He gave a start as Serenity slipped her hand into his. Briefly, he tightened his grip on it, before forcing himself to relax. It wouldn't do to injure the Queen.

His gaze met Astraea's and he read her hidden message. It provoked a wry smile. When wasn't Foramen looking out for himself first? Oh right, when around Queen Serenity. Still, that didn't mean he was about to throw his life away. (For one, he thought it would make Astraea happy, or at least confirm that Foramen was another dropkick, stupidass senshi like half the rest around here.)

Closing his eyes, he murmured to himself, "You have to do what you can to get what you need." Gold eyes snapped open and the hand not entwined with Serenity's rose in Scorpio's direction.

"Vanishing Rift, Slice!"

His hand slashed the motion of the rift to begin the attack. And so his magic began to fight against the barrier and against Foramen's command.

She wasn't entirely sure what had drawn her there. One minute she'd been eating a lovely cupcake sitting on a bench half across the city and the next she'd felt a strong urge to get up and walk - simply walk towards some unknown destination.

Angela had felt that pull before, granted, but it'd been but a nibbling worm, gnawing at the edge of her thoughts. Annoying, but still ignorable. This time, however, she had not been able to resist the invisible tug and she'd gotten up from her bench and walked.

For a long time, she wasn't even sure where she was going; not until the large College building had appeared in the distance. It was then that the dark haired girl had realized that she had to get there, as soon as possible. She wasn't sure why it was required she go there, nor why she felt such an extreme need to obey the tugging force as soon as she'd seen Barren Pines, but she didn't question the urge.

She waited till the large gates showed up in the distance, and then ran the remaining distance towards them, stopping only once she'd reached them, realizing there was something that kept her from going in. It wasn't the gates; it was something else, and though she didn't understand what it was that kept her outside, nor why it was so imperative that she be inside, she allowed herself to spill her frustration on the the invisible force, slamming her lithe fist upon them, and then adding a small kick to the structure, which didn't make it budge; only crackle obnoxiously, as if it were mocking her.

Both Serenity and Foramen had their eyes closed now. Something was happening to the barrier -- a human-sized crackle as the group watched, a shimmering of the huge black barrier. The girl on the other side was kicking. She was pounding now, in desperation. Sweat broke out on Foramen's forehead. Serenity closed her fingers over his, and then suddenly --

It opened only for a moment. That was long enough for Angela Byrne to slip through, the barrier closing behind her immediately. Leaving Foramen sweating and pale and exhausted just from that, utterly exhausted, bone-deep exhausted. But even as Serenity reached out to the bemused-looking, dark-haired girl, a kind of light shone in Angela's eyes: the first signs of the deja-vu of remembrance. Of realisation. It'd been amnesia that had saved her: without it, she might have tried to assault Charonite alone in her grief and in her rage. Probably the last gift from Eon and Chronos. Be well. Be safe.

Angela was Scorpio, sailor senshi of mysteries. And the last one to be found of the Zodiac Guard.

All Serenity did was cradle her hand momentarily, between her own, and then passed her off to Sue. "One last one, Zue," the queen said, gently, and then she turned back to the gathered mass. "This is the last push. Aries, if you could get them organised."

Aries could get them organised. She first turned to Scorpio, clapping her on the shoulder -- "It's good to see you," she said, brusquely, and turned back to organisation. "Zodiac! I want you in order of the Wheel! Génoise, Kavanaugh, Miss Thorne! Scorpio, Petrova, Arma, Grayson, Froust, O'Connell, Boskovic and Coral! Everyone else get yourself holding hands, Araya, organise the rest -- Grant, Montgomery, Weaver, Roadinger! Foramen, take a rest! I do not want any bitching at this juncture, gentlemen and women!"

There was a lot going on. Serenity had her hand on Scorpio's shoulder too as Sue sweated. Hero was busy placing the reeking garbage bag with strange gentleness in the middle of the forming circle. "Are you all right?" the queen asked, soft. "Are you ready? I'm afraid you have to be ready, right now."

For some odd reason, she hadn't been expecting her fist or foot to go through whatever had been retaining her outside, but it happened suddenly. The fist she'd been using to pound slipped through and what she figured was gravity allowed her to fall through (the situation seemed devoid of logic, but she didn't really have time to analyze it).

Angela found herself looking towards a group of people, now on the other side of the barrier, though her eyes landed almost instantly upon a green haired girl. It was that girl's (Woman? Girl? Lady? She wasn't sure what to call her - her presence was not that of an ordinary girl, that was for sure) presence that seemed to demand more attention.

And then, suddenly, as she was looking at her, her mind filled with images, memories, feelings and Angela was overwhelmed. It was probably Serenity's grip on her hand which kept her grounded... it was her grip on Angela that allowed the dark haired girl to cling to the moment, instead of succumbing to the chaos in her mind. The dull throb in her head lightened soon enough though and she gripped her head with a hand till she felt a pressure on her shoulder.

Her only response was a wry smile, for she wasn't sure if she could have mustered words at that precise moment if her life depended on it.

As the green haired girl addressed her, Angela looked up; she was having trouble finding the right words, that much was obvious. Yes, no, maybe, they ran through her mind, but she finally just smiled mildly, nodding her head, "I'll manage."

Angela probably hadn't expected the crowd forming, either, into two rings of happy-hand-holding -- she was nudged inbetween an amazingly familiar girl with brown curly hair and glasses, and an amazingly familiar hair with pale blonde hair and cool blue eyes. A pen got shoved into her hand by a boy who looked on the wrong side of exhaustion: like somebody who had stayed up for forty-eight hours and could really use a Jolt Cola.

The Zodiac Guard were assembling themselves. Hero Barrett joined hands with Topher and Pierrette, fixing the ring apart from the smelly plastic sack. (Jude would have been seriously annoyed at this point in time.) So had the other survivors. Serenity's voice rose above the rabble, the murmuring, the getting ready --

"Today we pray."

Astraea reached out for Sue's hands, going down on her knees. She looked annoyed. Her ears were pricked. But she slid her hands inside his, and they looked at each other: two people who did not exactly like each other, but were recognising one another as the same species.

"Today we all pray."

And over every survivor -- every zombie -- even those not there, Lucas who'd left, the others who were still haunting the place, down to Piper and Frankie del Rockham -- stopped still. To hear the voice. "Today I ask you for your strength. I am asking for all of your strength, and I have no right to ask. You've sworn no allegiance to me as your queen, people of Earth. You're brave. You are strong. Earth can be proud that it has you as its children. I wish I could assure you all that you will be its future. But not all of you are going to walk away.

"I need your strength."

It was strange seeing Serenade with blue eyes.

"I'll ask for it not once, but twice."

Her voice reached every corner of the cursed campus --

"Opal Crystal of the Zodiac Guard! For the sake of your Princess, lift this curse!"

And it took your heart, and it sucked a little bit out of it. Every heart. The human ones faltered, skipped a beat, continued on bravely. It was a sudden, murmurous shot of pain, but then there was something building brightly at the body of Chronos' chest, sparkling with irridescent colours as it peeled open and painstakingly formed itself into the shape of a flower with many bell-blossom petals --

And the light hit Chronos: reformed.

Not Sailor, but Princess.

User Image

And not Serenity, but Serenade. There was one last whisper in her ear --

Your first love is not your last.

Be happy.

Princess Chronos was blinking. Elke made a pull, but Hero said harshly: "Do not break rank, soldier!"

(And at this point, Sue had conked out entirely. Astraea reached forward, took his pulse, and announced with no particular joy: "He's alive." Long, extended pause. "Enough.")

Nothing had ever been quite like this, he didn't think. He wasn't sure. Still reeling in the midst of a remembrance he couldn't decide the legitimacy of, Grayson nevertheless clung tightly to the hands at either side of him, using them as his anchor and lifeline in one. He wondered, briefly, what he was supposed to do - perhaps had a moment where his heart skipped in something like panic - but he didn't have to do anything. There was a knowing even when there was pain, and he grit his teeth against it, pouring his heart into something he didn't even have the time to wonder if he believed in.

The pain was hot and sharp, more than he'd ever felt - his death by his hands had been mercifully fast, after all. Still, it didn't last forever, and even when sweat beaded his forehead from the pain, he clung tight to the small hands at his sides, feeling desperately that he could not break the contact no matter what.

Then it seemed to be over, but it couldn't really be over; Sue passed out, and before him, the woman shifted, changed into something that made his heart yearn to be close to her. Beside him, Elke pulled forward, but even as Hero barked at her, Grayson's hand tightened on her own. Do not break, he thought, though his mouth was open just a bit, and it seemed like he wanted to move forward, too.

She -- the woman -- he didn't even know her name, but part of him knew she was his. His princess, the person he felt more devoted to than any other, and he wanted to weep and laugh at the same time. Seeing her was like coming home after years away, a balm to a soul that he hadn't known had been aching.

But he stayed where he was, because no matter how much he wanted to move forward, Grayson knew he had to stay. He didn't know how he did, but he knew.

Still, he tipped his head to the sky, brown furrowed, and held on tightly. What came next, he didn't know, but he had a complete faith that it would work.

It had to.

Angela wasn't exactly sure what she had been expecting at that point in time. Not really anyhow, seeing as how nothing today seemed to have been going 'according' to plan. To think she had been planning to spend a lovely day out on a park bench with some yummy sugary treats and a good book - none of this looked anythings like her ideal plan for the day.

She was going along with the flow though, and allowed herself to be guide-nudge into the circle of happy hand holding. There was something horribly... hauntingly familiar about the girls she had been positioned between but she had little time to ponder the notion because the green haired girl's voice suddenly filled the silence and her attention was drawn instantly towards her again. The girl had some sort of magnetism to her, Angela was sure of it.

Then there was pain.

It was pain like she had never felt before, gripping at her heart, curling long tendrils around her very core and yet... it did not feel menacing or sickening in the least. It felt like it was meant to be; it felt warm. She was having trouble not releasing the hands she clung to oh-so desperately in an attempt to grip her chest. The dull throbbing of her head was also not helping, but soon enough the pain she felt lessened into some sort of afterglow and her attention focused back on the green haired girl.

Except now... she had changed; she was different and it filled her with a sense of purpose and joy she had apparently forgotten long ago. Confusion was still present in her mind and she wasn't entirely sure what was going on due to it, but it felt right. That was all she needed for the time being.

These past few days (how long had it been, really?), Serenade had no inkling of where exactly she was while Serenity, the one that was her aunt, was inhabiting her body. It had seemed as though she had been floating around aimlessly, in some sort of long, long sleep and she was utterly lost and confused.

It was then, when suddenly, she was pulled from wherever she had been sleeping in that she felt a sudden burst of energy and she reappeared back into the campus of Barren Pines, blinking her pink (not blue) eyes down at everyone as though she had just awoken from a dazed stupor. A few more blinks and her eyesight grew clearer, and there was that comforting and oh so familiar voice in her ear, but she couldn't quite make sense of it just yet.

Serenade, no, Princess Chronos smiled. Perhaps she didn't seem to command as much of a presence as Queen Serenity was; for that was Queen Serenity, after all, but she was indubitably the Zodiac's Princess, a Royal, and the smile seemed to be aimed at all of them, eyes alighting at the sight of their hands clutching each other's. All except for one, something in her mind seemed to tell her. She started forward, and looked down at... yes, his name was Zue, rather worryingly, but Astraea had that covered for now. What she needed to do was to complete the circle. She went towards the plastic sack, not even wrinkling her nose as she bent down and undid the knot, butterflies still fluttering around her as she did so. Chronos did not even pause to look at how decomposed the body had become (perhaps she was so squicky about it that she wanted to get this done fast) and reached forward to put her hand in his chest, her fingers gently touching his starseed, giving him life.

There was a blinding flash that Elke, Hero, Aurelia, Giselle would have been used to and there now, Jude Lawson stood, in his human form, and before he could even voice any thoughts at his resurrection, the part of Chronos that was Serenade made her throw her arms around him and hug him tightly. "Jude." She said, with tears in her eyes. "Sagittarius."

Then she broke away from the hug and smiled at Jude again, but did not cry, and instead turned to look at the Zodiacs again. Her attention was now fixed on Aries and the Princess inclined her head slightly in acknowledgment. "Let's end this." She said. "Together."
PostPosted: Thu Dec 24, 2009 9:30 am

She had no idea how to react to being told to hold hands. Well, okay, yes she did: Hold hands and listen to whatever the Queen had to say. Fussing over Sue and all the people who had been Walking Dead last time she'd seen them could wait for whatever--someone was standing outside the barrier? Scorpio. She knew Scorpio, didn't she?

The Queen was talking, Elke listened and then: pain. Very painful pain, but she'd endured worse now; she whimpered a little but gave no further comment. And then the Princess was back, and she started forward, loosening her grip on her fellow Zodiacs' hands--

"Do not break rank, soldier!"

--Elke stopped, but everything in her said: Princess! Princess, princess-- Why was she standing there? Her princess was right there, right there, in front of her, but if she had to stay here--holding hands with Grayson and Libra gingerly--then she would. She would stand there and--end it, as the Princess asked.

"Yes, Princess," said Elke. She took a stronger grip on Grayson and Libra's hands and a deep breath. She'd do whatever the Princess asked.

"Araya, organize the rest."

He was pleased to be given so much responsibility, and it showed on his face. "Alright, everyone!" If this was going to help them fight back, he wanted to be right at the forefront. Hero, Aries, Heries, she seemed to understand this without knowing much about him, and him without knowing all that much about her, and he was thankful for that. "Organize! We're a small force but we have to unite and help them fight back! With the power of the Zodiac and the power with our spirits, we can do this! This Opal Crystal, it can bring us all out of this madness!"

And they organized.

Ignacio was proud of his accomplishments, especially as the prayer to the Crystal began. The metal pole from the basketball shelves was down at his feet, for quick access if necessary. He was holding tightly to Weaver's and Grant's hands, eyes closed tightly and focusing just on the Opal Crystal, as they called it. The Opal Crystal who would bring back the one who could save them all. His heart jolted and pounded, and it felt like a rush. A rush of pure power and pure hope ran through him and he shuddered. It was amazing. His mind could hardly comprehend...

And then he saw the princess. Gorgeous Princess, the Princess that said she couldn't help him, didn't she? But she could. She was the Princess of the Opal Crystal, the Princess of pure hope. The Zodiacs seemed to be in awe of the Princess they loved and cherished. She was their princess in particular. He never knew the princesses and princes of legend could hold so much... power. It was wild. It was amazing.

And they could end this, as Princess Chronos said. They could end this together. Him, the newly resurrected Jude (huh, so she could bring back the dead, no matter now), the Zodiacs, the other humans, Princess Chronos, all of them. "Let's end this, everyone!" called Ignacio, closing his eyes. "Let's end Barren Pines and all the torture it's put every single one of us through." Even if his voice didn't echo throughout the dome like Queen Serenity's had, he had certainly learned some stage projection throughout his day; he was loud enough for those near him to hear him loud and clear. He wanted to motivate all of the humans... they could do this.
PostPosted: Thu Dec 24, 2009 9:43 am

For the reanimated Jude Lawson, who hadn't the slightest idea in the world what had been happening after his most disgraceful defeat, this was not a time of reunited joy and magic. The first thing he did was simply stand there, trying to organize the downpour of memories pounding against his head. Overwhelming? Just a little.

The first to form a clear picture was that face. Red hair. Green eyes. That b*****d smirk and those teeth. Jude would have lashed out in an impulsive rage, but his arms were bound by the one invading his personal space. He stared at her like she was some complete stranger who had run up to him on the streets of Destiny City.

Then, she said it.

Sagittarius.

The fact of the matter was, neither Jude nor Sagittarius had ever looked afraid before the other zodiac. Not in this life, not in the last one. Annoyed? Most definietly. Worried? That, too. But scared? Not once. Not ever. But he did now; he looked terrified. Eyes wide, quivering, there was nothing about him that didn't scream: Hi, I'm Jude Lawson, and if you give me a gun I will shoot myself in the face with it.

"Why?" he whispered brokenly, shaking his head in a manner that could only be taken as what it was: shame. What they would have to guess was if he spoke to the winds or to Chronos, but he doubted she had heard him, anyway. If she had, no answer could sedate him regardless. His question was not about why this was happening, why he was here, why they were doing this. What he wanted to know why was she had to bring him back. He'd finally been free again, and they ripped him out of Heaven to bring him back to Hell. He remembered nothing of it, but was positive he must of been there.

Where else would he go?

There was no way God was going to let him back in after cheating him out of a soul so many times.

There was no word to describe just how lost he felt. Too much, too fast. That is, until he'd found his anchor. Once his eyes followed those of the Princess, saw Aries, things seemed to snap back into place at a dizzying, relentless speed. Having known nothing of barking order about ranks and lines--would have he cared?--Jude finally moved.

To Hero.

As fast as he'd run on their race that day, compared to that, his speed now was like lightning across the sky. He grabbed her face and kissed her shamelessly, and before she could hit him (if only her hands were free), or yell, or do anything else, he had shifted instead to hug her like she would die if he let go.

"Hero, thank God," was all he said.

He needed more time to deal with this than he was being given, but he understood now the time to "Man Up" had arrived. No matter Aries reaction his boldness, he then stepped in line, held hands with whomever was on either side and wondered why they were shaking so bad.

But the truth was, it was him who was trembling.
