Gebali'moyo followed after his mate Badiri'ini, "Where are we going Ini?" He watched as she slipped just out of the line of sight. She was becoming more comfortable with the lands, and said she had a surprise to show him.
"Iniiii!" He called again. The day seemed perfect, it had been overcast and dreary for the last few days and now it was sunny and the swamps felt alive with life.
"What's the surprise?" He murmured, knowing she couldn't hear him.
Things seemed to be looking up, that was the motto of their relationship, bad things happened, better things followed. Bad weather days, one pretty day. Bardi'ini feels terrible about not knowing the lands, she makes friends to make it better. They lose a love, they find a home.Baridi'ini laughed happily, she'd said she had planned a surprise for Gebali'moyo, it was silly and spur of the moment..and to be honest she wasn't sure what she was going to show him once she'd run out of places to run. The cream colored lioness felt blessed, Gebali's spirits may not be talking, but Ini felt like they were finally seeing her for the first time.
"Over here, Gebali," she yelled back at him and slipped behind a fallen mossy log."Brat!" He shouted and quickened his pace, splashing mud and earth up from beneath his paws causing it to splatter across his white fur. "C'mon Ini, you of all lions know I cannot stand surprises!" What was it he wondered, had she made something? It must be important for her to risk getting muddy while running. Lala-Baridi hated being dirty, but lately...she wasn't minding the earth at all.
Gebali breathed in the earth mixed with her scent and tried to conjure the spirits' voices, maybe they would have an exact answer.
Sometimes, surprises are better than knowing ahead of time. The demigod couldn't tell if he had summoned the spirits in his mind, or if he was answering his own question, either way he knew the voice was right.
"Guess, I'm on my own."
Vaulting the log Gebali launched himself after her tail as she turned the corner. "Name calling wont help you, you know," Baridi'ini answered merrily, nothing was going to spoil her wonderful mood. She continued at her speed, he could catch her if he wanted, but she had a feeling he was enjoying the chase as much as she was.
She ducked beneath a cluster of high roots and found herself backed into a corner, "Oh on!" She gasped, but laughter and giggles escaped her lips betraying her feigned-fear.
"I tuh-took a wrong turn!" she gasped out the words in between fits of giggling, "No, really...there's nothing this way, your surprise is somewhere else." She could see his splattered legs trough the holes in the tree and was so caught up in her game that well, she didn't want to be caught.Gebali'moyo barely noticed that Baridi wasn't running any longer, her call to stop, she took a wrong turn flew over his head and out into the swamps, he was bound and determined to catch up to his mate.
"Oh!" Hewa skidded in the mud trying to avoid the cluster of roots and the tan fur poking through that was Baridi.
"Lala! All this running!" he inhaled pulling in air and on exhale burst into laughter. "You're acting like we're teenagers!"

"Old fuddy, duddy!" She exclaimed, but she was panting and gasping just as he was, not just from running but the peels of laughter and fits of giggles that escaped her.
"I have a confession..I never really planned a surprise..I just..wanted to do something nice, wasn't well thought out was it?" She blushed and pushed her way back through the roots and mud. She was covered up past the last dark stripe of fur on her legs in mud and bits of moss.
He stood breathless in front of her and for the moment was awe struck, she wsan't minding the muck like she had, she and Indu valued cleanliness has if being dirty was the plague, he even kept himself clean for her..for them.
"The best surprise you could ever give me...is knowing that you're alright here," he walked over to her and bumped against her affectionately, "I was so scared..and things still are not the same..but I know you're at home." He looked down at her feet and rubbed a paw through the mud and in a particularly silly move wiped it on her side.
"You're at home, aren't you? In the mud and swamps? I know Pipi is very fearful for you..I hope one day she'll like me..but..but."
Oh, he'd made their silly day into something much serious and Baridi-Lala didn't think at this moment that she could handle the seriousness that surrounded the swamps. Her heart about burst at the thoughts of all the death and sadness that was surrounding, her friends here were scared, and some of them seemed so shocked they didn't notice there was a threat in the swamps at all. She wanted her silliness, her fun for now, it was a beautiful day-- a break in all of the terrible weather, a complete metaphor for all the things that were going right and wrong.
"No matter what you are my home..and that means the Swamps are, I could not go anywhere without the mud and the moss, without my Gebali'moyo, my heart."
"Now.." she scooped up a gob of the soft earth and rubbed it down his mane, "Pay back, my dear." She laughed trying to go back to the light hearted conversations that they had.
She started to run again, away from the roots and away from the seriousness, "You'll have to caaaaatch me, Hewa-moyo!"
"I'll show you who's the fuddy duddy, Baridi-Lala!" He called and started to run after her. He didn't think he could love her any more than he did right then, she was perfect, she could be sweet and wonderful and now he was seeing a more playful side to her, she wasn't scared like she seemed to be before, wasn't as week as he thought she had become.
"Come back here!" Gebali was gaining on baridi and knew that if she didn't pull another root trick he would catch her, and this time wasn't going to let her get away.
"What part of 'catch me' didn't you understand, Old-Man!" she called, she didn't have much energy left to keep the chase up, but she wasn't going to let him win, not without a challenge. She wasn't just some weak and frail lioness, she was powerful too; she wanted to show that to him.
With her last burst of speed she took a turn into a thin cluster of trees trying to escape.

She thinks she is so clever, I know there's a dead end ahead, his grin grew wider and he slowed his chase following her into the cluster of trees. After this point they would become too thick to navigate and Gebali knew that he wouldn't have to chase any longer.
"Careful you don't fall!" the inflection in Gebali's voice showed concern but sounded a lot like teasing, "I don't want you to bump your head, it took me nearly a lifetime to find someone like you, can't start over now."
He felt a tickle, something in his mind that was familiar, and he all at once knew that his spirits hadn't abandoned him after all, there was something there. Maybe he needed to feel truly happy again to feel it.
Her joyful romp ground to a halt as she found the thick trees with gnarled roots, "Suppose the games up!"
Baridi'ini turned to face her mate, tossing her rump in the air like she's going to pounce her prey. When he entered she took three short hops and then tackled him.
"Waited a life time hmm?" she whispered into his ear, her voice lower than usual.
Gebali'moyo wasn't expecting her to actually pounce, the wind knocked out of him and his legs buckled beneath her weight. "Oof!"
He peered up at her wondering, "You're certainly something else, Baridi'ini, wind of mine."
(Logical point to stop in my head next comes..bow..chicka..wow wow.)
