**/ The year is 2113, the world is overpopulated by at least five hundred billion. Polution has been temorarily solved, although still lingering by a thread. Trees are a rare commodity, with machine air scrubbers to provide clean air to the populace. There are no longer farm towns or rural areas, as all available land became essential for larger buildings to support the increasing populace. Everything has turned towards technology and computers, with corporations running countries far more efficiently than their actual leaders. These corporations only care for money though, and fill agendas where they recieve the best monetary value. /**

**/ Lurking in the slums are people the corporations fear most... Hackers are what we call them, CodeRunners are what they call themselves. CodeRunners intercept and steal the information that allow corporations to grow, and then turn to sell it to the highest bidder. In a sense, they are no better than the corporations, yet most find them to be the better of the two. /**

**/ The corporations, however, have found their own methods in dealing with the CodeRunners. By hiring experts to not only defend their data and track down their targets, they have an elite squad of hunters, called CrossRunners, specializing in finding these targets. Once found, they will often interrogate and kill their captives. /**

**/ The battle has been going on for almost ten years, and there are rumors going around saying that the corporations are planning one large movement, one that would worth hundreds of trillions. A race to riches has begun, but the danger is far greater than anytime before. /**

**/ Announcments:
Days until Corp fills Agenda: 50
Runs Needed: 50
Successful Runs: 0

I will be showing the progress on who is currently winning this race. Every in-game day, CodeRunners can try to make a hit against the Corp, slowing it's progress if the Corp has an Expert to defend the data. Otherwise the CodeRunner will steal a fraction of the data, making the Corp have to wait an additional day until the Agenda to be filled. If the agenda is filled the Corp wins the race and will start a new agenda with quite a good lead due to their increase in funds). If the CodeRunners successfully meet the required runs, they win and a new race will begin.

I thought this would make it more interesting. But this will not take effect until we have at least five players. At least having one Expert for each CodeRunner. Each time and Expert stops a CodeRunner, he may call a CrossRunner to try and locate the CodeRunner, making it impossible for the CodeRunner to run again for one whole day. After one day, the CrossRunner must give up his search, as it will be too late.

I may change this if it seems uneven or if I think of ways to make it more interesting. /**

xxx"Honey, wake up." A pleasant voice called out. Stirring around in his bed Jon opened his eyes and saw his mother standing in the door. "Don't you have school today?" She asked him, making his eyes go wide for a second, "Yeah. I'll be ready in a minute." His mother walked back towards the kitchen, which meant he had about three minutes to get everything ready for today's run. Jon scurried to put on his clothing, almost cursing himself for buy leather clothes because his friends told him that is was more practical in their line of work. 'Practical my...' Before his thought could finish, his mom called again. "Hurry up! Breakfast is ready." Finally getting his pants on he started on his vest. "Okay!" He yelled back. Once he was fully dressed, he grabbed his bag full of today's activities and headed towards the makeshift table.

xxx"Goodness..." His mother said when she saw him. "First was the tattoos and now this?" She always figured his friends were a bad influence on Jon, as they probably were, but they accepted him and helped him earn some money. Her look was filled with more worry than anything else, worried that he was going to get into trouble. Jon ignored the comment and glare, sitting down. Breakfast was a piece of toast and an egg. Pretty much the usual breakfast he had, except this time there was an egg added. Scarfing down the egg, he grabbed his toast and headed out the door. "I won't be home 'til late, I have work after classes." He lied. About the classes at least.

xxxLuckily for him, he never had to go to school anymore, since everything is computer based now, all he did was changed his grades over the computer, and made sure the school never was able to contact his family. They never even knew when parent teacher conferences were held, and the address in the schools computer was fake. His school now consisted of making complicated runs into corporation's computers, hoping that one day he will get a good hit and score a few hundred thousand. That hasn't happened yet, his best being a little over eighty thousand, but today he felt lucky. Today, he believed, was going to be a huge score.

xxxJon ran down the street until he came to a dumpster with a few people hanging around it. "Damn Loki. You're always late." One said to him. The guy was heavy set, had a gadget that covered his left ear, placing a small screen over his left eye. "Whatever Bones." Jon said, making the other guy go red. Bones was his old nickname, one that only Jon dared to say, making fun of his size as he always said he was 'big-boned'. Jon smiled at him and added, "So, what's the plan?"

xxxIt was rare for any CodeRunner to make a run alone, often working in groups of two or three. Yet even when they ran as a group, it usually only takes one of the corporation's expert network defender's to stop the group. Not only did they have more resources, but they also are about equally skilled. Having both makes them impossible to steal data from without a plan and tough with one. "Well, I was thinking..." Bones began. When the plan was set in stone, everyone agreed that if it worked, they were going to hit it big.

XXX Technically, Jayd didn't have to show up at the building to work, but it was best to keep up professional appearances. She almost laughed as she came in a half hour late, in sweat stained clothes, her hands still wrapped from her martial arts class. Professional... In no way could that word by tagged onto her. She had worked hard at keeping an unprofessional appearance her whole life, no job was going to ruin that. Her running shoes were noiseless on the carpet as she passed interns, some of whom were older than herself, and other employees. As one they stuck their noses up as they passed, pretending not to notice her. She fought to keep from laughing aloud. Her hair blew in front of her eyes as she passed a fan on one of the desks. In the stuffy building the wind was much needed, yet in short supply. Passing the 'Coffee Corner' she heard those who hovered around it mutter, most loud enough for her to hear. It was nothing new really, comments on her clothes, shoes, general appearance and lack of 'Real' skill.

XXX She stopped at a desk just before her own corner cubicle. The young man did not look up as he peered through thick glasses at the three computer screens in front of him. "Late again, Jaydis?" It was a completely rhetorical question to which they, and everyone else in the building, knew the answer to. She sighed dramatically as she leaned heavily on his desk. "Good morning to you too, Maric." Jaydis shifted her weight and turned around slightly to judge the other employees. Not a single one of them accepted her on any level. Maric was the only who came close to liking her. He didn't really approve of her unprofessional attitude, but he did what was in his job description and didn't step on any toes. Unlike Jaydis, who stomped on any and all toes she could; pissing off more then a few people. "Do you know that not even one person said so much as a single word to me?"

XXXThat made him look up, as the tone in her voice suggested it upset, or surprised her. Maric rolled his eyes and went back to his computer when she turned back around and winked at him. She chuckled in the back of her throat, "Well, best get to work, wouldn't want to get fired now would we?" She laughed again as she pushed herself off his desk and went to her own. She pressed a few keys as she sat down and transferred the information gathered last night back at her home by her own console and kicked her feet up, waiting to begin the day's adventures. Should there be a challenge, it happened occasionally, she was ready for it.

XXXMaric watched her over the rim of his glasses. He smiled slightly and shook his head as she kicked her feet up on her desk. He had heard the mutterings as she had passed and wondered if she heard them and just ignored them, if she heard them and just hid her reactions or if she truly didn't hear them. He shot one intern a glare as she passed his desk, this particular one he had over heard commenting on Jaydis' lack of real talent. Maric felt overly protective of Jayd, though he knew very well she could take care of herself, she didn't in the workplace. He shook his head and went back to work.

xxxLoki pulled out his laptop from his backpack, feeling it's smooth surface before opening it. Then he yanked numerous wires from his bag, plugging them into the slots that lay within the side of his computer. The mobile generator and network box they had was littered with cords and hookups when everybody finally got finished with the setup. Looking almost like an old fashioned potatoe battery when looked at from a certain perspective.

xxxHe reviewed the plan once more in his head. While his friends go and ping the firewalls with viruses, making the servers and experts go mad trying to find out where they are, Loki would be the one to actually go past the firewalls to get to the meat. He was taking the biggest risk though, he knew that, but he was always confident that he would never get caught. Simple pinging of firewalls were nearly impossible to trace, not even Loki or Bones could do it with the best technology out there, but going through firewalls was like painting a red crosshair on your IP address and other useful information within your computer. This wasn't the first time Loki had done this though, so he already deleted all relevant files from his computer, keeping on the necessary ones that would help him make the run.

xxxLoading up his Loki virus, Jon got ready for the main event, once he had the information, he will unleash the virus as soon as possible to pretty much fry their targets mainframe. He loved his virus, simple in nature, but tough to stop. It was like a boulder rolling down a mountain, without proper preparation, it would not be stopped until it's too late. "Everybody ready?" Bones asked, mostly towards Loki though, knowing that his job was most important to the run. "Yeah, let's get this done." He smiled, placing the visor over his eyes.

xxxThe visor was one of the best inventions a CodeRunner could have. It can show you the files and and information, and if proficient enough, you can slip into some networks undetected. That's what he hoped would happen, but when he approached the network they were targeting, it almost seemed to be a fortress, no way in without blowing a hole in the wall. He saw his friends already beginning the assualt on the network, alarms were ringing like crazy by now Loki would assume. He, on the other hand, got ready to find the smallest crack so he can break through for the big run. It was only a matter of time, time that they don't have much of when he gets in.

XXX Jaydis was just starting in on her first cup of coffee of the day when she heard someone curse. Soon many were busy at their computers. She could guess what happened; their Firewalls were being pinged. Her computer was not bothered with that small fact, that was not her job. While the others were busy tracing where they came from, a near impossible task; Jayd waited.

XXX Her father, being a CodeRunner in his prime, had taught her all the tricks. CodeRunners rarely worked alone. A professional, he had told her, would be in a group of three to four. Two or three of them would set to pinging the corporation in question's Firewalls, while the last would wait for that one small crack in the defenses, waiting to slip through. That was what she waited for, what her computer was built to detect; that one little cross hair that slipped through.

XXXAs soon as that one little thing slipped through, she'd best be ready. If she didn't stop it as soon as it got through, there would be no stopping it at all. Her father had once said it was like trying to stop a chain of dominoes from falling. The only way to stop it, was to not let it start. She placed an earpiece in her ear, and out of the corner of her eye, she could see Maric doing the same.

XXXAs soon as she found the one that slipped in, she would begin the tracing process on her console. She'd then leave the building as quick and quiet as possible. Maric would take over, making sure that her computer traced it correctly and relay her the information via the small, nearly unseen earpieces they both wore. They had done this before, or tried. It was hard to keep the CodeRunner on the other end from knowing he was being traced and so she had often came upon empty rooms or buildings. She had since updated it though, her console would now supply the CodeRunner with false information, making him (or her) think that they'd succeeded. She now waited for them to crack through.

xxxLoki was still motionless, he couldn't figure out a good way to get in yet, thinking that they should have checked the security first next time. If there was a next time. "What's taking you so long!" Bones then yelled at him from life. "One moment." Loki replied. He could now hear the flaring of the keyboards, as his friends continued their random pings.

xxxThen the worst happened, "You're going to lose your chance! I'm going in!" Bones was too hasty, not taking careful consideration of the dangers. "Wai..." It was too late, Loki saw Bones burst right through the firewall, not even safeguarding his own program.[color=darkred] "s**t." Loki muttered, rushing in after Bones, hoping that at least one of them could grab the information.

xxxPass the firewall, the files seemed endless. Even if they didn't get the high security files, taking ten of the smaller ones could give them a few hundred dollars. Yet taking large numbers of files could take far too long, downloading one high security file could be worth more than downloading a hundred of these basic files, and would take a fraction of the time. With this in mind, he pressed forward with Bones. They had to pass at least three more firewalls before anything noteworthy would appear, and at that time, everyone would know where they're at. In the upper corner of Loki's visor, the countdown began, they had less than two minutes to find and download the file, otherwise tracking would be one hundred percent successful, and the real run would begin.

xxxTwo firewalls later, they had to settle for what they find, as time was down to fourty-five seconds, barely enough time to download a file. "Okay, let's grab what we can." Loki told Bones, who in turn refused. "No way, one more wall, and we get the big bucks." With a sigh, Loki responded. "And we'll be caught, where the big bucks won't mean a thing." Yet Bones went farther. The timer ran out of time five seconds before they got through the third file wall.

xxxThe information here was spread thin, meaning it was worth a lot. "Downloading." Bones said aloud, grabbing the first file he found. Loki, on the other hand, had another plan. He got ready to unleash his virus. If anything, the company would be thrown through a loop, set behind by at least a day if they did the reasonable action. That would be to reboot the system, chaos, in the digital form. "Got it." Queing the activation.

XXX Jaydis sat at her computer, staring at the center screen. "Idiot!" she whispered quietly before pressing a few keys and jumping up out of her seat. She glanced at Maric, "Maric! They're through..." Several others noted this at the same time and she could hear them cursing.."... but they got impatient. He didn't even safeguard his program, stop him and trace it! Supply them with false files, make them think they won!" The program on her computer should do that on its own but it's best to do it manually.

XXX Maric nodded as she dashed out of the building, grabbing her hoverboard on the way out the door. It was the only way to navigate around all the traffic that would be out this time of day. "Maric, do you have a general location yet?" He worked fast, as fast as herself and sometimes faster. She could hear his clacking at her computer through the mic he wore. "Yes. Head to the north-east quadrant of the Cru-Or district. I will have more a more concrete location for you soon, turn on your visor." ((I'm making up s**t here.)) Jaydis pressed a button on the earpiece and a semi-transparent screen appeared in front of her right eye. It annoyed her being over only one and messed with her depth perception, but it was necessary.

XXX She scanned the information on the screen, what would be undecipherable to some was clear as crystal to her. It was all the processes her computer was running currently, right now focused on tracking this CodeRunner's location. Maric would have switched back to his own console to supply them with falsified files that Jayd and he had worked long hours into making look real. The deeper the CodeRunners got, the more important the files looked; as it would if they were real. It was to draw in the greedy, make them want to go one Firewall further. Make them spend more time, allowing Jaydis to track them to an exact location.

XXXShe weaved in and out of traffic. It was always busy nowadays, she couldn't remember a time when it wasn't. The world was overpopulated, people becoming ever more and more lazy, barely a soul was seen actually walking, they thought it'd be faster using modern transportation. Right. Jayd cursed as some dip sh*t stopped in front of her, nearly knocking her off her board. She was getting closer, her computer now showing her minute by minute directions to where the intruder was physically at.

xxxAlmost getting knocked over by some girl on a hoverboard, Jon looked back and wondered why she was in a hurry. The way she moved made her look like she did something bad, and was trying to get away. Loki and his group of friends continued to head away from the mobile network they had set up earlier. Bones was still angry as well. Looking back on it, Jon couldn't blame him.
xxx"What do you mean we have to fry our computers!?" Bone had yelled at him. Furious at the slight indication of losing his tech. "You wanted to go longer than we had permitted, both of our computers are painted." Loki had replied, he was also needing to get it done soon. Tracers were already within his and Bones computers, and it would only be a matter of time until someone hunted them. "They can't find them if we move them." Bones continued to try saving his computer, knowing that the end won't be avoidable. "Just so they can chase us the next time we log on? No." Loki's words were final, as he pulled out the data drives on both computers and put them through a magnet wash.

xxxA magnet wash didn't have any water, rather it had an industrial strenth magnet that would pretty much rip a hard drive inside out. They didn't have to destroy the computers themselves, as they were both built piece by piece. They could not afford to buy a whole good working computer, as those were slowly becoming corporational goods. None the less, he tossed the computers into the fire that they set to the mobile network. The last thing to worry about was finger prints and the such.

xxxEveryone was on edge, they had lost nearly two thousand dollars of equipment in one day, and they didn't even know how much that file would be worth. Loki was probably the only one happy, any time now, his virus would start wrecking havoc with the main frame. This was the company that tracked his friend years ago, and today, he would continue his revenge. Money didn't mean that much to him, it would have just been another upside. Then something happened. One of the members shouted. He was looking through the data they had gotten from a device that could not connect to a network if it had wanted to. It was designed specifically as a read only device. "What happened?" Bones and Loki almost said simultaneously.

xxxThen the other member, E.C. as they called him, continued. "The data's cracked. It's worthless." Cracked data was the same thing as fake data, nothing but a bunch of random binary that meant absolutely nothing. Bones had messed up big time for the entire group, he should have had at least checked the first ten lines of code before downloading, but since they were out of time, he just downloaded the first thing that he could find. "Sorry guys." It surprised all of them, Bones rarely apologized, often made up excuses. No one said anything, they had to do some shopping.

xxxLoki got wide-eyed. "Guys, I have to get back home. I'll see you later." Before anyone got the chance, Loki was gone. They forgot to close the network, he knew it. That would mean any of them could be hunted if the fire doesn't burn the data. They should have done a magnet wash to the network device as well, but all of them forgot. If they salvage that one piece, all of them will be tagged, even E.C. and Nautelus. He just hoped he wasn't too late, if he gets home in time, he could still erase all of the IP addresses before someone can look at it.

XXX Jaydis purposely passed the area that her computer informed her was where they had made their run from. It continued to remind her to turn around, to go back to the right area so she turned it off. She knew exactly where they were anyway. She watched from a distance as they put the data drives through a magnet wash. Jayd winced at the loss of information, but nothing could be done to stop it. "Jaydis, why have you turned off your visor?" There was a quality to Maric's voice that she didn't particularly like. He was holding something back, something important. "Because I know where they are, where the information is, what is it?"

XXX She watched as they set fire to the network and computers. She silently cursed and watched as one of the members took off in a hurry. "Uhm, Jayd, I think you should turn on your visor." She hesitated before doing as he suggested. As she turned on the visor, she saw what he decided was cause for worry. Flashing before her eyes were the statistics on a virus that now ravaged their mainframe. "God damn them! Can you get anything from the virus itself? Information, who implanted it, back trace it, anything?"

XXXWatching the remaining CodeRunners leave she waited a few moments longer before approaching the fire that sizzled, destroying information in the blink of an eye. Taking off her jacket she sighed, she'd never get to wear it again, she smothered the fire the best she could. She succeeded in burning her hands slightly and cursed aloud. "What'd you find?" Maric questioned over the ear piece. Her computer back at home would be recording images as well as sounds from her earpiece, which had a micro camera attached to that everything she saw, it saw. "Something to help us find these CodeRunners." Maric was silent a moment too long, no one was used to her calling them what they referred to themselves as. Everyone else simply referred to them as Hackers. With her CodeRunner background though, she called them what they were.

XXX She salvaged what pieces she could and wrapped them in her jacket. "Meet me at my place as soon as everything has cooled down there, I won't be coming back in today. I need to set to work tracing these guys and with the status of things there, I won't be able to achieve anything." She turned off her earpiece and sighed quietly, moving a lot slower through the crowds. She hadn't gotten a good look at the Runners, not a single one of them. She hadn't gotten to them before they destroyed evidence and she hadn't confronted them directly. Perhaps she was a bit out of practice.

xxxWhen Loki got back to his house, his mother wondered why he was home early. At first Loki tried to think of a lie, but decided against it, too much time would be wasted explaining. "I left early, needed to do something here." He dashed for his room, his mother trying to stop him, but gave up.

xxxPulling out a spare computer, he popped it open and searched for the network, hoping to find it. It wasn't there. Slamming his computer shut, Loki held in a curse. One of two things happened, and he needed to start praying for one of them. If his group's lucky, the fire destroyed any valuable information, if not... The corp's men found it.

User Image ~ Kayla Zero ~

Hmmm this quite interesting... Kayla noted to herself as she was tapped into the system and watching the little game the two were playing. Kayla had a great interest in finding her final pieces to complete herself. This mainly meant that she needed to find data sets and programs to finish wiring herself up as a full blond cyborg. I wonder with one I should go find first? The boy has hacking skills, that's for certain, but he can't finish the job without the girl getting in the way. I suppose the best way to figure out who will be of most use to me would be to go follow them a bit, but not as myself. I'll be Zero, just my last name and I'll have to wear something I don't commonly. I know just the thing!

The girl sat there and strummed her fingers on her desk, thinking. I wonder, if rewind my memory saved files a bit, can I gather enough data from these scatter files to find one of these people... It's sketchy, but I should at least give it a try. She synchronized her memory saved files with her computer and started to sort them.

There you are! I'll drag your picture into the data base and search for you... She moved about some of the related files with the female and soon had a name. Oh so you're Jaydis are you? Looks like you're a bit of a dangerous one hmm. I'll just have to watch my step around you wont I? The girl laughed slightly to herself, reclining in her chair, enjoying her own thoughts for a moment. It didn't last long though as she spun her chair to look at the woman out of the corner of her eye.

Jaydis looked so angry in any picture he happened to have of her, and further note, any sound waved picked up in a female voice, frustrated. Kayla wasn't sure how she was going to handle this one, but it had to be easier to find and talk to he than the boy. The boy was the outlaw, so he would probably be trying to hide a bit better.

The almost cyborg pushed out of her chair and went to her closet to change before she grabbed a hat and scarf. By the end of the this madness she was clad in black from head to toe. Her hat was a black newsboys hat, the scarf black and sleek around a black spandex top that spanned down her arms. Her pants were a black leathery material and her boots black with latches all up the sides. Last but not least, she grabbed her large sunglasses and put them on her own fair skin before peering at herself in the mirror. Yes, this would do for now, that is until she could find something better to wear to sneak up on someone.

After all the preparations she set out to where the file said the woman would be. She couldn't get a tap on any of Jaydis' electronics yet, but with due time she could get that. It didn't take the girl long to get where she was looking for as modification definitely had it's benefits. Any normal mortal and it would have taken them about fifteen minutes by subway, but not this girl.

There she was, in the crowd, weaving through with that busted up computer. Maybe she could make it to the woman's house before the other person got there. Yes, this would be ideal for certain, but how likely it was, she wasn't completely sure at the moment as she didn't have enough data to calculate probability. It didn't matter, either way she would wait until she could have her alone, no one to witness her other than the woman.

Beep.Beep.Beep.Beep.Beep.

The annoying beep from hell woke Basil from a nice dream about creme puffs. Not his normal dream substance, but he didn't really mind this one... and now it was ruined. He slapped whatever was beeping and it stopped. 'Thank god...' He rolled over and was nearly back asleep when the beeping started again, completely killing his chances of returning to the creme puffs.

With a scowl, Basil sat up in bed and found the source of the creme puff destroying beep: his phone. Someone was calling him before 4pm... what a b*****d.
"Can I help you? ... Yeah ... Fine." The call ended and Basil chucked the phone across the room, falling back into his pillow. He stared at the ceiling for a good while before his stomach reminded him that creme puffs were delicious.

With a heavy sigh, he pulled himself from bed, gathering his clothes from where ever they had fallen the night before and pulling them on as he walked into the kitchen. A few moments of rummaging the fridge resulted in no creme puffs and another sigh. That would normally have been the end of his searching and desire, but the dream was stuck in his mind and Basil could practically hear them calling to him.
'Note to self: I'm starting to sound crazy... Great.' He walked to the door and slipped into his shoes, damn well intent on finding creme puffs now.

And maybe actually doing something about the phone he had broken against the wall.

User ImageSora burst into the house, home from school. "Hey Mom! Is dad still working?" she asked excitedly as she ran to the refigerator and took out some ice cream to eat.
Her mom nodded then shouted, "No computers until you finish your homework young lady," reading Sora's mind.
Soa pouted and and huffed in annoyance, "Yes mom," she said reluctantly. She had really wanted to start working on another AI program, one that was focused on a specific task rather than a broad range of tasks. She went upstairs and quickly went through her homework. Flashing through her math and english homework but having to put some effort into her science and history homework, Sora, as usual, finished her homework right before dinner. She quickly ate dinner at 6:30 PM with her dad, mom, and brother, then rushed upstairs to her computer.

In her room, she immediately started a surveillance run of the company her dad worked as an expert for, at least on the surface he did. According to her dad, someone had managed to hack in and release a virus. Using one of her alternatives, Young, Sora accessed the company's general hardware, making sure that Young was protected from both the virus and being tracked down. It was technically hacking but the area she was accessing was so low-security that the chances of her being found were practially nill, especially since she was taking precautions and making sure that she didn't leave any tracks. Furthermore, she didn't even need to take her top-level precautions seeing how the virus had thoroughly affected the company's servers and so she didn't need to download any files to gain access to the virus. She isolated the virus and downloaded it to Young, making sure that it stayed quarantined and didn't affect the server. She then began happily dissecting it and figuring out how it was programmed, who programmed it, and any other information she could obtain from the virus. The only motivation she had for analyzing the virus was her pure curiousity, nothing more and nothing less.

(OOC: Okay, I'm no computer geek so please correct my posts if what my character does on the computer is impossible >.< .)
