It was hot. The little cub had long since abandoned the body of the only 'parent' he'd known. Now he lay curled beneath the dwindling shade of a rock in the dust, staring blankly out over the horizon. He felt as dried up as the plants around him he'd cried so much, he didn't have a drop left in him. His mouth was gritty and dry and his throat hurt.

And Fahim wouldn't get up.

Mika had tried biting. He'd tried pushing and pouncing and he'd tried shouting and he'd even tried crying a little bit. Fahim still wouldn't move.

The cub had left the older lion in a huff to find something to eat but such a little lion had no hope of finding something more than a bug or two and those weren't delicious at all. In fact they'd made his mouth taste bad.

That was a day ago. Fahim hadn't moved from the same place the whole time and his fur wasn't warm and comforting anymore. Come morning the cub had set out on his own again and found himself lost.

He was miserable, and he was so alone.

Lifting her head from the rivers bed Mehta looked around the field, the wind was blowing softly causing her to close her eyes and think about the sound of the wind. What did it sound like? Smiling as she pulled up the memory she swayed to her own sound clip of the wind. What a beautiful noise it was indeed.

Opening her eyes slowly she now stared up at the sky, there was two or three large black birds circling. Was there a fresh kill out there? Watching them circle again and again she pinpointed the location and raced forth into the grasses. She rather grab the food already laying around then hunt another animal. Why waste a perfectly good carcass? Feeling the tickle of the grasses made her smile, and the thought of a free meal also excited her, causing her to move much faster than she normally would and soon she was there.

Staring at the black lion cub she felt her heart race. His face was so long it could mimic that of a wild dogs. Why the hell was it all the way out here? Looking around she didn't see anything else the even resembled another lion. Was he, abandoned? Making her way out of the brush she slowly padded toward him, hope to help him in some way before the birds got to him.

"Why are you here?"

Mikaili looked up slowly, flinching a little bit as the shadow of the Leopard cast over him. He huddled down, ears flattening back against his head. He gave a small croak, his voice dry. "I'm lost."

He stared up at the leopardess, too tired and sad to be very afraid. He leaned forward a little bit, enough interest rousing within the cub for him to try and take a closer look at her.

The leopardess could make out a very faint noise coming from the boy, his lips reading the words lost. Why would he be way out here anyway? She looked around again before furrowing her brows. It just didn't make any sense at all. Lions didn't really enjoy these lands so it was rare for them to be here, and for a lion cub to be in the area... Well that was unheard of. Watching him struggle caused a strange pulling at her heart and soon she found herself closing in on him. She would just have to take him with her, get him some food and water. Let the poor thing calm down. He seemed so distraught it was heart breaking. "Come with me." She called as softly as she could, leaning down to pick him up. If he would allow it she would take him back to her tree where he would have shade and a place to stay.

"You will be safe."

Mika didn't protest as the leopardess leaned down and grabbed him by the scruff. He went limp, front paws hanging down as his back legs curled forward a little, tail between them. He stayed quiet and still as she took him across the hot, hot ground. He wasn't sure how long she walked with him but eventually he was deposited beneath the shade of a large tree.

Mikaili craned his head back to look up at the boughs above him blankly. Without much warning he found that he did still have some tears left in him and promptly began to sob. It was the tenderness with which the leopardess treated him that made him remember Fahim. He gave a wail of grief and leaned his face against the forearm of the leopardess, little body shaking.

"F-F-FAHIM won't M-MOVE! He S-S-STOPPED and I'm alone! I TH-THINK he H-H-H....HATES ME."

Mehta's ears perked up as soon as the little black lion started wailing, why in the world was he crying? Did she hurt him on the trip? Looking him over with alert eyes she seen not a cut on him. Maybe it had something to do with his situation? Watching him cry on her forearm she pushed him into her, giving him a body to curl into. What ever was on the little boys mind it obviously hurt him from the shuddered that pulsed through he own body.

"No more tears." She cooed to the boy, trying her hardest to help him. It was so hard to understand with the bits and pieces she heard him sob. Why was he all alone? Why does this... Fahim... hate? Her own eyes soon started to water as the boy continued to cry, why was his tears affecting her so, why did they remind her of her sisters and father? Holding the boy closer she let him continue, hoping that a body would be enough to help him settle down.

"I am sorry."

Having someone to lean into, to press his face against and feel comfort from was certainly something. He curled a little paw around her thick wrist and moved until he was pressed right up against her with as much of himself as he could get.

The sound of her tearful voice took him a little off guard and he looked up, the white tuft of his cub's 'mane' (if you could call it that) poking out from beneath the dusty brown ruff of her chest. He sniffled, a few whimpers escaping. "Who are you?"

He refused to move away from where he was pressed against her arm chest. He could hear her heart beating and that was the thing that made him feel the most comforted. The slow, steady, strong beat.

Mehta smiled softly as her tears softly dripped from her eyes, he was absolutely adorable and to have to go through with being left alone, she couldn't even bear the thought of it. Licking the little boy softly on the head she cooed lightly, a motherly sound that she didn't quite understand but knew was right. She knew somewhere it would calm the little lion cub.

Looking down at him she blinked back her tears and softly smiled, she shouldn't be crying, he needed someone strong. "I am Mehta, I am here for you now..." She nuzzled her head into his little tuft, unable to move for fear of rattling him.

"Be calm dear child." The leopardess cooed, standing still as she could, watching him, caring for him. Little did she know that the cub was already spilling himself into her heart.

His eyes dropped a little, feeling the weight of the day pressing in on him. The comforting nuzzles and feel of being groomed calmed him a little more by each moment. With a small motion he lifted his chin to butt the bridge of his nose against the bottom of her chin.

It made his heart a little sad and uneasy when she told him she would be here for him. Fahim had been that. Or he was supposed to have been. For a second his breath seized in his throat as he worried if the nice leopardess would eventually ignore him as well.

It didn't stick for very long, however. He gave a sigh and a weary nuzzle against her, eyes drifting closed. He managed a weak 'urf' of contentment as once more he focused on the sound of her breathing, her heart. "Mmm... am Mika..Mikaili.." He didn't even have the energy to yawn, Mikaili simply lay down, curled as snugly against Mehta as he could get, and fell asleep.

Mehta's ears flicked, straining to hear the boy breathe, he had made an odd movement when she had spoke to him, as if he was afraid. Looking down at him she couldn't help but smile, he was slowly falling to sleep, and she was proud. It would be good for him to rest, especially after the day he had. Licking his head lightly again she curled up with him, heating him with as much of her body as possible.

"Mikaili..." She sighed, smiling as he closed his eyes for a final time before passing out. It seemed to her that the boy was most definitely there to stay, especially seeing as she had seen not a single lion for miles. Or at least, that is what she selfishly hoped as she watched the boy sleep, wondering what he might be able to eat at such a young age.

"Sleep well Mika...."
