Hey I'm Lainey and I'm 21 and pansexual. Certainly know what you mean about being older than most of the people here. I actually live really close to NYC. I have to say, I love when people are politically minded. Drop me a line sometime if you ever want to talk. ^_^

AIATTAUA Hi I'm 17 I don't live close to NYC I actually live in oregon but I'm bisexual and transgender myself I was also born physically female and if you don't mind me asking, how was it for you when you first found out and how did you talk to people about it? Well...it was more of a gradual process for myself as opposed to a sudden realization. I always knew I was masculine but didn't know I was necessarily male. I dabbled in performing in drag which I felt very comfortable with. I began to identify as gender queer then as a trans man. I'm not entirely sure as to what you mean when you ask "how did you talk to people about it?"

Sure...ask away. Lady GaGa day was Jan 29th. Lady GaGa even commented about it on her twitter, and contacted the girl that created Lady GaGa day.

Alright. I'll attempt to explain this as much as I can. Not all transgender people feel the need to take hormones, and not all transgender people feel they need any type of surgery.
Hormones: The purpose behind taking hormones is to create secondary sex characteristics. In a transgender man the hormone testosterone is taken which makes the voice deepen, pimpley skin, facial/body hair growth, receding hairline, muscle growth, body fat redistribution, and growth "down below." There are other differences that are psychological but those vary. It's pretty much like going through male puberty.
Surgery wise there are 2 very general types of surgery called "top" and "bottom." Top is chest reconstruction surgery. There are a few various types of top surgery (for transmen) but the general idea is creating a male chest. A lot of transmen get top surgery.
There's also bottom surgery. There's a few different options which I won't go into since I don't know enough about them. I personally don't think they do much to make something I would want.
I've had one REAL relationship in my life, and I was out to her completely as male. She knew I was a guy before we started dating and knew what was in my pants before she went in.
I won't say I've ever decided to identify this way. It's always been part of my subconscious. I've always considered myself masculine, and started actively questioning my gender identity when I was about 17. I've identified as gender queer in the past, and I still identify as gender queer in someways, but I feel as if transitioning to male will work best for me in the long run.

you did an amazing job explaining that.
a tiny bit more personal ->> do you bind? and if you do, does it kill your boobs?
i dont feel like im gender queer. but for some reason i want to completly (or at least best i can) understand it.

Some guys do not feel the need to bind. Myself, I am large chested in comparison to my frame and weight. I bind fairly often, but I tend to limit it to hours when I am out of the house. Right now I do not have a job, and I'm not out too often so I don't bind my chest too much. I've had breathing problems when I bind so I try to keep it to a maximum of 10 hours a day. The mental, and emotional comfort out weighs the physical discomfort when I bind, at least when I use two of my binders...some don't bind as good. I have one binder that doesn't do enough for me, and one that is extremely uncomfortable.

this may sound like a really silly question. but was it SUPER hard to cut your hair? or have you always had short hair? i feel like that would be the hardest part for me.

When I was young I hated getting my hair cut. It just started getting shorter and shorter and shorter. When I had a shaggy chin-ish length look I dyed my hair blue. My parents HATED it and wanted me to dye it a normal color. I had my hair stripped of the color but it was an even worse color. My mother wanted me to just dye it dark again but I instead shaved my head.
I like my short hair, but I've had trouble trying to use my hair to make me appear more male. Sometimes the style works, sometimes it doesn't.

do you like boys or girls? or both? Im guessing girls because you said you had dated a girl before.

Heh, I wrote heteroflexible which means (at least for me) is that I am straight in the sense that I am attracted to women only, but I'm open minded to an attraction towards another man, or somebody who has a gender identity that isn't typical. I haven't had an attraction to men, but I wouldn't completely rule it out. I also think I'd be open minded to having sex with a man, but I'm not going to actively seek it out.
EDIT TO ADD: There are also more than two genders. Asking if I like men, women, or both barely scratches the surface of gender identities.
