Negaverse: Lieutenant Kassite

Name: Kaleb Carter

Nicknames: Kay (used mostly by his sister), KC (Kay See)

Age: 20

Birthday: February 14th

Sign: Aquarius

Gemstone:
Turquoise

Blood Type:
A+

Fav. Food: Spicy foods. Unfortunately his stomach would disagree, making him spend way more time in the bathroom than he would like to after 'enjoying' said favorite.

Hated Food: Any food will do really, he's not a picky eater, and he'll try anything at least once.

School: N/A-Works full time as an Animal Control Officer.

Hobbies:
-Knitting Kaleb doesn't exactly like knitting, but he doesn't hate it either. Knitting is more of a habit rather than a hobby, at least that's what he tells everyone. The 'habit' came from the need to get his younger sister a gift, a scarf to be exact. However, the scarf she wanted was way out of his budget. So he decided he would just make one that looked exactly like the one she wanted.

It was an easy enough thing to learn, after a simple internet search, a few 'how to' videos, and a quick run to a craft store for needles and some yarn, he was ready to go. His sister loved the scarf, falling in love the moment she laid her eyes on it, and demanded that he make more for her. Every scarf he made for her would make her light up with glee, so he was happy to oblige.

When he's not knitting scarves for his sister, he's usually knitting blankets for his mother, who donates them to the needy. He doesn't mind that his work is going to strangers, they need them more than he does and knitting them is something easy for him to do while he's sitting watching TV, or just hanging out with the family, ('The Family' being his mother and sister. Kaleb will never knit in front of his father, not wanting to give the b*****d something else to yell at him about).

-Bird Watching
Kaleb has always admired birds, maybe even been jealous of them when he was younger since they could fly and he couldn't, but birdwatching was something he took up by "accident." When his father was still around, Kaleb tended to make up reasons to leave the house, while out of the house he would wander the wooded area surrounding their home. Plenty of birds of prey seemed to nest in his 'neck of the woods,' and he would spend hours just watching them. He didn't even know it was considered a 'real' hobby, nor did he even know they held contests for such a thing. He just loved watching the birds fly around and hunt. He would watch the birds, sometimes bringing a notebook with him in order to catalog the families that grew within the woods. His "expertise" lying mostly in birds of prey, Kaleb can identify raptors by call, wingspan, and colouring. He is pretty good with the smaller, more common birds that are in the area, but is usually only able to name them after he's seen what they look like.

Virtues:
-Sit Ubu sit, good dog --
When Kaleb was younger, he was a rambunctious and rowdy kid, causing problems and doing whatever he'd like in any rebellious kid nature. His father only took so much of this from Kaleb and eventually shipped him off to military boarding school, telling him he could go back to normal school when he "shaped up and started acting like a good son."
Because of the 'well grooming' he received from the military school, Kaleb now does as he is told and will do everything in his power to do so. He is obedient like a well trained dog. You ask him to jump, he'll ask how high.
However, this obedience is only shown toward people whom he sees as his 'master' or commander, usually people who are higher ranked than him. Whether it be by seniority or in actual ranking, he will obey them and their commands. If he sees you as an equal, you get respect but not complete obedience. Hardly any attention at all if you're below him.
When faced with something he just doesn't want to do, it will usually take some prodding or an ultimatum to get Kaleb moving. But, there isn't much he won't do, except harm his mother or sister.

-The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate
Kaleb runs on praise, again much like a dog would. He strives to be praised and is actually content with a "good job" or a head pat when he does something correct. He would like nothing more than to know that what he did made his 'master' happy instead of a physical/material reward.

-No man has a good enough memory to make a successful liar
--Kaleb doesn't lie, but this isn't because he thinks that lying is wrong, quite the opposite actually. He avoids lying because he's not very good at it. He's tried to lie in the past but would either stumble over his words or would forget that he even lied in the first place. So instead of worrying over remembering his lies, he'd rather tell the truth and not have the hassle.

Flaws:
-Perverse/wrongheaded Kaleb is more likely and willing to do what is considered to not follow the social norm or right. When he was younger he would volunteer to play the robbers or whatever bad guy position was present in the games he played. He'd rather be the bad guy than the good guy.
An example would be to ignore the "stay off the grass" sign and not only stand on the grass, but kick up a few good clumps of sod for good measure.
However, being sent to military school kind of beat this rebellious nature out of him when he got older. Though he still has his tendencies of wanting to do the wrong thing, he will reluctantly choose the 'right' thing in order to keep his father off of his back. But the b*****d isn't around anymore, so the tendencies are getting stronger...

-You're such a mama's boy! Now being a mother's boy isn't really a bad thing, Kaleb respects his mother and will do as she says like a good son. However, his weakness would be the 'mom voice.' You know the voice, the one that still makes you jump when you're an adult.
Kaleb can be a rowdy and even misbehaving boy, but if a woman uses the 'mother voice' on him, whether its his mom or not, he will stop dead in his tracks and obey, or at least pause in confusion.

β€œIn order to go on living one must try to escape the death involved in perfectionism.” Kaleb is never satisfied until all his work is done efficiently and flawlessly, and spends a lot of time checking, and even double checking, to make sure that it is (Kaleb likes to blame this habit on the military school).
Because of this, Kaleb tends to be highly stressed and has the tendency to burn out when working too hard on one thing. His perfectionism is most recognizable when he is working. Whether it be about how he did a certain call, or how he prepared a report, he is usually constantly nit picking his own skill until he frustrates (or even depresses) himself, if he doesn't think he did it completely right.

His knitting is something else that his perfectionism pops out of from time to time. He is precise in his knitting and it can be seen in his work, but in earlier attempts he would take way longer than normal because he missed a stitch and would have to start all over again in frustration.
.

A bit on the needy side.
For a guy who runs on pleasing his superiors, telling him he did a good job is often sufficient enough to keep this guy happy. However, if Kaleb doesn't receive some sort of praise he will become antsy and start to pick at the situation, constantly wondering what he did incorrectly and how exactly he should fix it in order to make his 'master' happy again. This usually leads to him being a bit on the needy side when trying to find out what he did wrong and trying to fix whatever it is.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
User Image
-Eyes: An eerie yellow, often compared to that of a wolf's in colour. Usually in a half-lidded state, looking utterly bored/uncaring about whatever the hell it is you are talking about.

-Hair: Straight, layered black hair that hangs just below his shoulders. He also has hair extensions that he will put in a bit above the nape of his neck. The extensions consist of black and yellow dreads made from synthetic hair that hang just below his armpits. He usually pulls a few of them forward to hang down his shoulders/chest.

Body: 6 feet tall with an average build. He doesn't have time to work out, but he doesn't exactly laze around the house either. He has naturally tan skin and has a good number of scars on both of his forearms from scratches and bites that he received while working at his job.

-Face: Nothing too striking about his face or features. He's not girly, but he's not manly either, just in between the two.

Negaverse Alias: Lieutenant Kassite

Challenge: "Here Kitty, Kitty~"

Uniform:
Concepts:
Thinking of suit meets military uniform. Oddly enough, Nephrites uniform is pretty darn close to how I picture Kassite's uniform to be.
MAIN COLOUR: Midnight blue
Or any of the blues from the center of this wheel.
SECONDARY COLOUR: Canary yellow
Top -- thigh-length traditional front-fastened coat. A bit longer in the back, the tail scooping down just past his bottom and a stiff collar.
Bottoms -- Uniform pants, pipping at the cuffs and running down the sides of each pant leg.
Gloves -- Specialty gloves used for handling cats. They're fairly large, thick, and limit his finger/forearm mobility. However, Kaleb rather put up with the cons of the gloves when an angry cat decides to latch tooth and nail on to whatever is closest to them, and in Kaleb's case it's usually his hands. Blue/yellow colour theme like his uniform smile
Belt -- black duty belt
Shoes -- black boots
Shoulders -- Epaulettes
Accessories -- Two small yellow chains hanging on the right-breast area of his jacket

Weapon – Feel free to take creative freedom with design, this is just kind of a basic idea of what I'm hoping for smile
--->Small butterfly net with the outline of Hello Kitty's face and ribbons hanging off of the net. Net Hello Kitty Face
--->Larger and manlier net better equipped for catching cats. Net Net Close-Up
The staff end could be more elaborate in design, similar to wrought iron poles used for hanging curtains.
examp examp 2 examp3 examp4
---> Same weapon as last stage but More elaborate in design on the pole and net is now able to send a jolt of electricity from within, usually stunning whatever is inside the net.

Why the Negaverse?
Joining the negaverse would be very appealing to Kaleb's 'rebel' tendencies of never wanting to play the 'good guy,' and wanting to be a part of something that changes the world.
The ability to follow orders without question like a good 'military dog' and his attention to detail would be a couple of good qualities for the negaverse. 'Master' says kill, he says how many and he makes sure he does that.
Kaleb is also known for being an animal catcher, it's his job after all. When you drive around the city on the look out for stray critters, such as dogs and cats, all day every day, you tend to get good at it. Kaleb is known for his cat catching skills, however, and is one of the few ACOs who will go after a stray cat and CATCH it, instead of just setting a trap in hopes of catching it later. Although, just because he prefers using his hands, doesn't mean he always succeeds in catching them. That's when the trap ( much to Kaleb's chagrin) does come in handy.

Animal Control Officer Uniform:
Pretty much just have examples of ACO uniforms. The colours change from department to department, so I would figure that the colours of the uniform would kind of go with Destiny City.

Most Common Style
Other Styles

If possible, hoping he could be holding a catch pole biggrin (but very much not needed XD)

U-u-uhmm....Here I go! @ A@''

About the first flaw and the 2nd Virtue--Maybe it's just me still being up an hour before midnight, but they stick out to me. He wants to do things right, getting anxious when he doesn't know if he did, but he also blatantly wants to disobey and go astray.

So does he only get the way he is in the former for the 'higher rankers' or is there something else going on?

A very trivial thing but you have a well-made profile and I really can't sniff out anything wrong.

EDIT
About the final flaw--What sort of things does he get antsy about getting perfect?

I'd like to also see a bit of hit backstory and such. Does he live only with his mother; what happened to the rest of the family, etc.
PostPosted: Thu Feb 18, 2010 11:00 pm

thank you for pointing this out! i actually had a similar worry about those conflicting before.

His need to do things right is more along the lines of doing them correctly, and gets anxious if he doesn't think he has. This pulls into his perfectionist side. But yes, he only really gets that way when it concerns "higher rankers" and being told what to do by them.

edit:
ill fix that final flaw and add things to it, very good thing to point out ty!

and i'll also work on a backstory <3 3nodding

Sorry it's kind of late! I hope it helps or something.

I have very little idea how Kaleb actually feels about knitting. I have an idea of how he presents it to others, but that only hints at how he feels. So his mother recommended it as a relaxing hobby. Who taught him to knit, or did he learn from a book or the internet? You imply that his mother doesn't knit, so. Also, when does he knit? How often? What sort of thing does he knit, and what does he do with the final product? Since he's a little embarrassed, maybe there are places he won't knit? You don't need to answer these questions in particular. I just don't have a sense of Kaleb's relationship with this hobby. How much of it is an extension of his obsession with becoming the best violin player ever?

I had to look up contact juggling and what it had to do with David Bowie's pants. I have never seen that movie, actually. I realize I'm in the minority here and most people would get the reference, but I do think it would be good to mention watching the movie and thinking it was awesome or something. Does he try things other people he finds attractive on television/movies/etc. do, or is this a special thing? Did it stop being about David Bowie early on? How good is he at contact juggling? How long has he been doing this? When and where does he do this? It seems like his cooler exercise hobby. Does he show off?

Um, that's also the comment I have about violin. How did he learn? When did he start playing? I know you said he's not a prodigy, but not all musicians are child prodigies. He's obviously very dedicated and stuff. Is he on a professional musician track? Was he ever considered for special music classes or something? Teachers do love dedicated students. Or is he too impatient to be the best ever that he screws up the basics?

Who is "Ubu?" It's a fine trait, although I think you need to mention its effect on Kaleb's hobbies a bit, because it absolutely has one on everything he does. My real issue with the virtue is that you emphasize the military-esque thing too much. How does it affect his normal life? I mean. He has had a normal life for most of his life, right? No weird paramilitary Boy Scout experience, right? You know you need to edit it so it doesn't conflict with the wrongheaded flaw, so I'm not going to ramble about that.

I like his neediness. I think it works nicely with other traits and everything. But it's a flaw. I really don't see how it is a virtue in any way. I think it and Mama's Boy could be combined very nicely. I also really like the perfectionism! But I don't see his tendency to burn out anywhere else in his profile. How is he still so dedicated to the violin? How does he maintain the amount of effort he puts into practicing when he gets burn out?
PostPosted: Fri Feb 19, 2010 11:28 pm

No worries pyry! Thank you very much for your input! Greatly appreciated <3

You make a very good point about the contact juggling and knitting hobbies, I will certainly work on elaborating those two.

Didn't even think of this when saying he played the violin, and im very glad you pointed this out! I will certainly work on this as well!

"Sit Ubu sit, good dog" is actually from a TV show company tag. As seen here biggrin I merely thought of it because of the whole " obedient like a dog" thing haha.
As far as the military-esque thing, yet again I have to say good point to bring up and its certainly something I'll either have to change or elaborate on to make sense lol.

I'll move neediness down to flaws, possibly looping it into the mama's boy flaw as you suggested 3nodding
And I'll also have to work on the burning out thing. You make a good point about how if he burns out and gets tired of it, why does he keep going back to it?

All I can say is I have a great deal to work on and I am very glad you took the time to look over my quest and give me much needed crit, thank you<3

*gets to tinkering* >3
